A catalog of 824 fireballs (bright meteors), observed by a dedicated network of all-sky digital photographic cameras in central Europe in the years 2017-2018 is presented. The status of the European Fireball Network, established in 1963, is described. The cameras collect digital images of meteors brighter than an absolute magnitude of about -2 and radiometric light curves with a high temporal resolution of those brighter than a magnitude ~ -4. All meteoroids larger than 5 grams, corresponding to sizes of about 2 cm, are detected regardless of their entry velocity. High-velocity meteoroids are detected down to masses of about 0.1 gram. The largest observed meteoroid in the reported period 2017-2018 had a mass of about 100 kg and a size of about 40 cm. The methods of data analysis are explained and all catalog entries are described in detail. The provided data include the fireball date and time, atmospheric trajectory and velocity, the radiant in various coordinate systems, heliocentric orbital elements, maximum brightness, radiated energy, initial and terminal masses, maximum encountered dynamic pressure, physical classification, and possible shower membership. Basic information on the fireball spectrum is available for some bright fireballs (apparent magnitude < -7). A simple statistical evaluation of the whole sample is provided. The scientific analysis is presented in an accompanying paper.

Since 2007, the Meteor Data Center (MDC) has had two components: the Orbital database (OD) and the Shower database (SD). The orbital part is in charge of the efficient collection, checking, and dissemination of geocentric parameters and orbits of individual orbits. Is also acts as a central depository for meteoroid orbits obtained by different techniques: photographic, television, video, CCD and radar. The shower database collects the geocentric and orbital parameters of the meteor showers and meteoroids streams. It is not an archive of all information related to meteor showers, its primary task is to give unique names and codes to new meteor showers (streams). The SD acts in conjunction with the Working Group on Meteor Shower Nomenclature of International Astronomical Union (IAU) Commission F1, "Meteors, Meteorites, and Interplanetary Dust". In our paper, we give a concise description of the IAU MDC database, its origin, structure and, in particular, the current requirements for the introduction of new orbital and shower data.

We present results of two-year photometric monitoring of Comet C/2011 J2 (LINEAR) that spans the time period from February 2013 through December 2014, before and after perihelion passage. The observations were conducted with broadband R filter. Analysis of observations of Comet C/2011 J2 (LINEAR) allows estimating the nucleus radius as function of geometric albedo and phase-darkening coefficient. Furthermore, our observations showed split of the comet. Fragment (B) additional to the primary C/2011 J2 nucleus was unambiguously detected; relative velocity is estimated to be near 0.17 ''/day. We derive the Afrho parameter and estimate the dust production rate in Comet C/2011 J2 (LINEAR) over the entire run of observations. We found a noticeable increase in Afrho parameter between September 18, 2014 and November 5, 2014, epoch when the nucleus presumably got split. On September 28, 2014, we observed a transit of the 16-magnitude star (USNO-A2 1275-18299027) near nucleus of the Comet C/2011 J2 (LINEAR). We retrieve the optical depth of the coma 0.034. The filling factor f that corresponds to such optical depth is in good quantitative agreement with the value that can be derived from the Afrho parameter under reasonable assumption on geometric albedo of cometary dust.

We monitor the inner coma of comet 41P/Tuttle-Giacobini-Kresák searching for variations of its colour. Fast changes in colour of the comet 41P/Tuttle-Giacobini-Kresák provide important clues for better understanding of the microphysical properties of its dust. Using the 61-cm and 70-cm telescopes we measured the apparent magnitude of the comet with the V and R Johnson-Cousins filters from January 29 until April 25 of 2017. The inner coma ({\sim} 2000 km) reveals fast and significant variations of colour. The most significant change was found between March 3 and 4 of 2017, when it changed from blue with a colour slope S {\approx}(-10.15 {\pm} 3.43){\%} per 0.1 μm to red with S {\approx} (16.48 {\pm} 4.27){\%} per 0.1 μm. This finding appears in good accordance with what was previously reported by Ivanova et al. (2017) for long-period comet C/2013 UQ4 (Catalina), suggesting that fast and significant variations of colour of dust could be a common feature of short- and long-period comets. We model observations of comet 41P/Tuttle-Giacobini-Kresák using the agglomerated debris particles and conclude that its inner coma consists of a mixture of at least two types of particles made of Mg-rich silicates and organics or Mg-Fe silicates.

We present an analysis of spectroscopy, photometry, and polarimetry of comet C/2014 A4 (SONEAR), which were performed on November 5~--~7, 2015, when its heliocentric distance was 4.2~au and phase angle was 4.7$^\circ$. Long-slit spectra and photometric and linear polarimetric images were obtained using the focal reducer SCORPIO-2 attached to the prime focus of the 6-m telescope BTA (SAO RAS, Russia). We simulated the behavior of color and polarization in the coma presenting the cometary dust as a set of polydisperse polyshapes rough spheroids. No emissions were detected in the 3800~--~7200~$Å$ wavelength range. The continuum showed a reddening effect with the normalized gradient of reflectivity 21.6$\pm$0.2\% per 1000~$Å$ within the 4650~--~6200~$Å$ wavelength region. The fan-like structure in the sunward hemisphere was detected. The radial profiles of surface brightness differ for r-sdss and g-sdss filters, indicating predominance of submicron and micron-sized particles in cometary coma. The dust color (g--r) varies from 0.75$ \pm $0.05$^m$ to 0.45$ \pm $0.06$^m$ along the tail. For aperture radius near 20~000~km, the dust productions in various filters were estimated as $Afρ$~=~680$\pm$18~cm (r-sdss) and 887$ \pm $16~cm (g-sdss). The polarization map showed spatial variations of polarization over the coma from about --3\% near the nucleus to --8\% at cometocentric distance about 150~000~km. Our simulations show that the dust particles were dominated (or covered) by ice and tholin-like organics. Spatial changes in the color and polarization can be explained by particle fragmentation.

We analyse the B, V and R-band images to describe the dusty cometary coma and to investigate its brightness, colours and dust production rate. The spectra cover the wavelength range of 3600÷7070 Å. No emissions which are expected in this wavelength region were detected above the 3$σ$ level. The continuum shows a reddening effect with the normalized gradient of reflectivity along dispersion of (9.3$\pm$1.1)% per 1000 Å. A dust-loss rate was derived using the obtained values and under the different model assumptions. Our simulations clearly indicate that to retrieve dust production from the observational Af$ρ$ parameter is an ambiguous task. The result of such a procedure is strongly dependent on dynamical (e.g. effective density and cross-section) as well as optical (e.g. scattering coefficient and phase function) characteristics of dust grains. A variation of the mentioned parameters can lead to dramatic changes in the evaluation of mass production. We demonstrate that the dynamic and optical properties are interconnected via the microscopic properties of dust grains (effective size and porosity).

Such dispersion cannot be characterized with an average color slope. We also observe Comet C/2013 UQ4 (Catalina) in infrared using Spitzer and find no significant CO/CO$_{2}$ gaseous species in its coma. Therefore, we classify Comet C/2013 UQ4 (Catalina) as a dust-rich comet and attribute the measured color slope to its dust. We analyze the color slope using the model of agglomerated debris particles and conclude that the C/2013 UQ4 coma was chemically heterogeneous, consisting of at least two components. The first component producing the bluest color is consistent with Mg-rich silicates. There are three different options for the second component producing the reddest color. This color is consistent with either Mg-Fe silicates, kerogen type II, or organic matter processed with a low dose of UV radiation.

Taurid meteor shower produces prolonged but usually low activity every October and November. In some years, however, the activity is significantly enhanced. Previous studies based on long-term activity statistics concluded that the enhancement is caused by a swarm of meteoroids locked in 7:2 resonance with Jupiter. Here we present precise data on 144 Taurid fireballs observed by new digital cameras of the European Fireball Network in the enhanced activity year 2015. Orbits of 113 fireballs show common characteristics and form together a well defined orbital structure, which we call new branch. We found that this branch is characterized by longitudes of perihelia lying between 155.9-160o and latitudes of perihelia between 4.2-5.7o. Semimajor axes are between 2.23-2.28 AU and indeed overlap with the 7:2 resonance. Eccentricities are in wide range 0.80-0.90. The orbits form a concentric ring in the inner solar system. The masses of the observed meteoroids were in a wide range from 0.1 g to more than 1000 kg. We found that all meteoroids larger than 300 g were very fragile, while those smaller than 30 g were much more compact. Based on orbital characteristics, we argue that asteroids 2015 TX24 and 2005 UR, both of diameters 200-300 meters, are direct members of the new branch. It is therefore very likely that the new branch contains also numerous still not discovered objects of decameter or even larger size. Since asteroids of sizes of tens to hundreds meters pose a treat to the ground even if they are intrinsically weak, impact hazard increases significantly when the Earth encounters the Taurid new branch every few years. Further studies leading to better description of this real source of potentially hazardous objects, which can be large enough to cause significant regional or even continental damage on the Earth, are therefore extremely important.

Superbolides, i.e. extremely bright meteors produced by entries of meter-sized bodies into terrestrial atmosphere, are rare events. We present here detailed analysis of a superbolide, which occurred over Romania on January 7, 2015. The trajectory, velocity, and orbit were determined using two all-sky photographs from a station of the European Fireball Network (EN) in Slovakia and five casual video records from Romania, which were carefully calibrated. Bolide light curve was measured by EN radiometers. We found that the entry speed was 27.76 $\pm$ 0.19 km/s, significantly lower than reported by US Government sensors. The orbit was asteroidal with low inclination and aphelion inside Jupiter's orbit. The atmospheric behavior was, however, not typical for an asteroidal body. The peak brightness of absolute magnitude of -21 was reached at a quite large height of 42.8 km and the brightness then decreased quickly. The bolide almost disappeared at a height of 38.7 km, leaving just a stationary luminous trail visible for several seconds. Only one small fragment continued until the height of 36 km. Brief meteorite searches were unsuccessful. The modeling of the light curve revealed that the body of initial mass of about 4500 kg remained almost intact until the dynamic pressure reached 0.9 MPa but it was then quickly disintegrated into many tiny fragments and dust under 1-3 MPa. A comparison was made with three other superbolides for which we have radiometric light curves: ordinary chondrite fall Košice, carbonaceous chondrite fall Maribo, and cometary Taurid bolide of October 31, 2015. The Romanian superbolide was not similar to any of these and represents probably a new type of material with intrinsic strength of about 1 MPa.

Photometric and spectroscopic observations of five nearly parabolic comets with eccentricity larger than 0.99 at heliocentric distances greater than 4 AU were performed. No molecular emission was observed for any studied comet and the entire cometary activity in all cases was attributed to dust production. Upper limits of the gas production rates for the main neutral molecules in the cometary comae were calculated. The derived values of dust apparent magnitudes were used to estimate the upper limit of the geometric cross-section of cometary nuclei (upper limits of radii range from 2 km to 28 km). Due to the poor sublimation of water ice at these distances from the Sun, other mechanisms triggering activity in comets are discussed.

The logarithm of the apparent magnetic susceptibility (in 10$^\text{-9}$ m$^\text{3}$/kg) shows narrow distribution from 5.17 to 5.49 with mean value at 5.35 with s.d. 0.08. These results indicate that all studied Košice meteorites are of the same composition down to ~g scale without presence of foreign (non-H) clasts and are similar to other H chondrites. Košice is thus a homogeneous meteorite fall derived from a homogeneous meteoroid.
