Luminosity is the key quantity characterizing the performance of charged particle colliders. Precise luminosity determination is an important task in collider physics. Part of this task is the proper calibration of detectors dedicated for luminosity measurements. The wide-used experi-mental method of calibration is the van-der-Meer scan, which is the beam separation scan performed at specifically optimized beam conditions. This work is devoted to modeling this scan with the q-Gaussian distribution of particles in colliding beams. Because of its properties, the Q-Gaussian distribution is believed to describe the density closer to reality than regular Gaussian-based models. In this work, the q-Gaussian model is applied for van-der-Meer scan modeling, and the benefits of this model for luminosity calibration task are demonstrated.

Investigation of coherent Smith-Purcell Radiation (SPR) spectral characteristics was performed both experimentally and by numerical simulation. The measurement of SPR spectral line shapes of different diffraction orders was carried out at KEK LUCX facility. A pair of room-temperature Schottky barrier diode (SBD) detectors with sensitivity bands of $60-90$~GHz and $320-460$~GHz was used in the measurements. Reasonable agreement of experimental results and simulations performed with CST Studio Suite justifies the use of different narrow-band SBD detectors to investigate different SPR diffraction orders. It was shown that monochromaticity of the SPR spectral lines increases with diffraction order. The comparison of coherent transition radiation and coherent SPR intensities in sub-THz frequency range showed that the brightnesses of both radiation mechanisms were comparable. A fine tuning feasibility of the SPR spectral lines is discussed.

We present an initial test of a new type of a pre-bunched beam pumped free electron maser based on Stimulated Coherent Diffraction Radiation (SCDR) generated in an open resonator. An ultra-fast Schottky Barrier Diode (time response $<1\,$ns) has enabled to investigate the properties of the radiation stored in the cavity as well as the intrinsic properties of the cavity itself. We observed a turn-by-turn SCDR generated by a multibunch beam. When the cavity length was exactly a half of the bunch spacing a clear resonance was observed. Moreover, turn-by-turn measurements revealed the cavity quality factor of $72.88$, which was rather high for an open resonator in the wavelength range of $3-5\,$mm. An exponential growth of the photon intensity as a function of the number of bunches was also demonstrated.

In this paper we present the method and experimental results of the investigation of a longitudinal component of relativistic electron electromagnetic field in the shadow area of a transversal component. We show experimentally, that in a region, comparable with the formation length area no shadowing effect of the longitudinal component of relativistic electron electromagnetic field appears. This is important for understanding of possibility of the shadowing effect in Smith-Purcell radiation and some other radiation types.

Coherent Smith-Purcell radiation generated by bunched electron beam in the lamellar metal and dielectric gratings in the millimeter wavelength range was compared theoretically and experimentally. For theoretical estimation a simple model suitable for both dielectric and metal gratings was developed. Experimental comparison was carried out using extracted bunched 6.1 MeV electron beam of the microtron at Nuclear Physics Institute (Tomsk Polytechnic University). Both theoretical estimations and experimental data showed the difference of the radiation characteristics from the lamellar metal and dielectric gratings. The radiation from the dielectric grating had peak structure not monotonic one and was more intense comparing with metal grating radiation in the wavelength less than coherent threshold. These differences may be useful for research and development of new compact monochromatic radiation sources in sub-THz and THz region.

In radiation processes such as a transition radiation, diffraction radiation, etc. based on relativistic electrons passing through or near an opaque screen, the electron self-field is partly shadowed after the screen over a distance of the order of the formation length $γ^2λ$. This effect has been investigated on coherent diffraction radiation (DR) by electron bunches. Absorbing and conductive half-plane screens were placed at various distances L before a standard DR source (inclined half-plane mirror). The radiation intensity was reduced when the screen was at small L and on the same side as the mirror. No reduction was observed when the screen was on the opposite side. It is worth noting that absorbing and conductive half-plane screens produce the same shadowing effect. The shadowing effect is responsible for a bound on the intensity of Smith-Purcell radiation.

The problem of the surface current excitation in a conductive targets by a relativistic electron electric field as the origin of such radiation mechanisms as diffraction and transition radiation of relativistic electron was considered in frame of both surface current and pseudo-photon methods. The contradiction between these viewpoints in respect to the surface current on the target downstream surface necessitated the experimental test of this phenomenon. The test performed on electron beam of the 6 MeV microtron showed, that not any surface current is induced on the target downstream surface under the influence of a relativistic electron electromagnetic field in contrast to the upstream surface. This is important implication for the understanding of the forward transition and diffraction radiation nature.
