Using $4.5 \mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data samples collected at center-of-mass energies ranging from 4.600 to 4.698 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we measured the absolute branching fraction for the inclusive semileptonic decay $Λ_c^+\rightarrow Xe^+ν_e$, where $X$ refers to any possible particle system. The branching fraction of the decay is determined to be $\mathcal{B}({\it Λ}^+_c\rightarrow Xe^+ν_e)=(4.06\pm0.10_{\rm stat.}\pm0.09_{\rm syst.})\%$. Our result improves the precision of previous measurement of $\mathcal{B}({\it Λ}^+_c\rightarrow Xe^+ν_e)$ by more than threefold. Using the known $Λ_c^+$ lifetime and the charge-averaged semileptonic decay width of nonstrange charmed mesons, we measure the ratio of inclusive semileptonic decay widths $Γ(Λ_c^+\rightarrow X e^+ν_e)/\barΓ(D\rightarrow Xe^+ν_e)=1.28\pm0.05$, where statistical and systematic uncertainties are combined.

It is predicted that strongly interacting spins on a frustrated lattice may lead to a quantum disordered ground state or even form a quantum spin liquid with exotic low-energy excitations. However, a thorough tuning of the frustration strength, separating its effects from those of disorder and other factors, is pending. It is predicted that strongly interacting spins on a frustrated lattice may lead to a quantum disordered ground state or even form a quantum spin liquid with exotic low-energy excitations. However, a thorough tuning of the frustration strength, separating its effects from those of disorder and other factors, is pending. Here we break the symmetry of a kagome-lattice compound in a controlled manner by applying $in$ $situ$ uniaxial stress. The transition temperature of $\rm Y_3Cu_9(OH)_{18}OCl_8$ is linearly enhanced with strain, $ΔT_{\rm N}/T_{\rm N} \approx 10\%$ upon in-plane compression of order $1\%$, providing clear evidence for a release of frustration and its pivotal role for magnetic order. Our comprehensive $^1$H NMR results suggest a $\overrightarrow{Q}=(1/3\times 1/3)$ state under unstrained conditions and further reveal an incomplete antiferromagnetic transition with fluctuating moments in this strongly frustrated system.

The branching fraction of the decay is measured to be $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\rightarrow Λe^+ν_e)=(3.56\pm0.11_{\rm stat.}\pm0.07_{\rm syst.})\%$, which is the most precise measurement to date. Furthermore, we perform an investigation of the internal dynamics in $Λ_c^+\rightarrow Λe^+ν_e$. We provide the first direct comparisons of the differential decay rate and form factors with those predicted from lattice quantum chromodynamics (LQCD) calculations. Combining the measured branching fraction with a $q^2$-integrated rate predicted by LQCD, we determine $|V_{cs}|=0.936\pm0.017_{\mathcal{B}}\pm0.024_{\rm LQCD}\pm0.007_{τ_{Λ_c}}$.

The $Λ_c^+\rightarrow pK^-e^+ν_e$ decay is observed with a significance of $8.2σ$ and the branching fraction is measured to be $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\rightarrow pK^- e^+ν_e)=(0.88\pm0.17_{\rm stat.}\pm0.07_{\rm syst.})\times 10^{-3}$. We also report evidence of $Λ_c^+\rightarrow Λ(1520)e^+ν_e$ and $Λ_c^+\rightarrow Λ(1405)e^+ν_e$ with significances of $3.3σ$ and $3.2σ$, respectively, and measure $\mathcal B(Λ^+_c\rightarrow Λ(1520)e^+ν_e)=(1.02\pm0.52_{\rm stat.}\pm0.11_{\rm syst.})\times10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal B(Λ^+_c\rightarrow Λ(1405)[\rightarrow pK^-]e^+ν_e)=(0.42\pm0.19_{\rm stat.}\pm0.04_{\rm syst.})\times10^{-3}$. Combining these with the inclusive semileptonic $Λ_c^+$ branching fraction measured by BESIII, the relative fraction is determined to be $[\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\rightarrow pK^-e^+ν_e)/\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\rightarrow X e^+ν_e)]=(2.1\pm0.4_{\rm stat.}\pm0.2_{\rm syst.})\%$, which provides a clear confirmation that semileptonic $Λ_c^+$ decays are not saturated by the $Λ\ell^+ν_{\ell}$ final state.

Evidence for a structure at $π^+π^-$ mass threshold is observed in the invariant mass spectrum of $π^0π^0$ with a statistical significance of around $3.5σ$, which is consistent with the cusp effect as predicted by the nonrelativistic effective field theory. After introducing the amplitude for describing the cusp effect, the $ππ$ scattering length combination $a_0-a_2$ is determined to be $\rm 0.226\pm0.060_{stat}\pm0.013_{syst}$, which is in good agreement with theoretical calculation of $0.2644\pm0.0051$.

Based on a partial reconstruction technique, we find evidence of a structure near the thresholds for $D_s^+D^{*-}$ and $D_s^{*+}D^{-}$ production in the $K^{0}_{\rm S}$ recoil-mass spectrum, which we refer to as the $ Z_{cs}(3985)^0$. Fitting with a Breit-Wigner line shape, we find the mass of the structure to be $(3992.2\pm{1.7}\pm{1.6})~\rm{MeV}/c^2$ and the width to be $(7.7_{-3.8}^{+4.1}\pm{4.3})~\rm{MeV}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The significance of the $ Z_{cs}(3985)^0$ signal is found to be $4.6σ$ including both the statistical and systematic uncertainty. We report the Born cross section multiplied by the branching fraction at different energy points. The mass of the $Z_{cs}(3985)^0$ is close to that of the $Z_{cs}(3985)^+$. Assuming SU(3) symmetry, the cross section of the neutral channel is consistent with that of the charged one. Hence, we conclude that the $Z_{cs}(3985)^0$ is the isospin partner of the $Z_{cs}(3985)^+$.

The branching fraction of $D^0\to K^+π^-π^0$ is determined to be $[3.13^{+0.60}_{-0.56}({\rm stat}) \pm 0.09({\rm syst})] \times 10^{-4}$. No signal is observed for $D^0\to K^+π^-π^0π^0$ and an upper limit of $3.6 \times 10^{-4}$ is set on the branching fraction at the 90\% C.L. We combine these results with the world-average branching fractions of their counterpart Cabibbo-favored decays to determine the ratios of the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed over the Cabibbo-favored branching fractions, ${\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^+π^-π^0)/{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^-π^+π^0)=(0.22\pm 0.04)\%$~and ${\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^+π^-π^0π^0)/{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^-π^+π^0π^0)<0.40\%$ at the 90\% C.L., which correspond to $(0.75\pm 0.14)\tan^{4} θ_C$~and $1.37\times \tan^{4} θ_C$, respectively, where $θ_C$ is the Cabibbo angle.

The results for $e^{+}e^{-} \to K^{+}K^{-}π^{0}$ and $φπ^{0}$ are consistent with the BaBar measurements and with improved precision. By analyzing the cross section, of the subprocesses $e^{+}e^{-} \to$ $K^{*}(892)K$ and $K^{*}_{2}(1430)K$, a structure with mass $M_R$ = (2208 $\pm$ 19 $\pm$ 24) MeV/$c^{2}$ and width $Γ_R$ = (168 $\pm$ 24 $\pm$ 39) MeV is observed with a combined statistical significance of 7.6$σ$. The measured resonance parameters suggest it can be identified as the $φ(2170)$, thus the results provide valuable input to understand the internal nature of this state.

Depending on the fitting model, the statistical significance for $X(3872)\toπ^0χ_{c0}$ ranges from 1.3$σ$ to 2.8$σ$. We set upper limits (at 90\% C.L.) of $\frac{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\rightarrowπ^0χ_{c0})}{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\toπ^+π^-J/ψ)}<3.6$, $\frac{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\rightarrowπ^+π^-χ_{c0})}{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\toπ^+π^-J/ψ)}<0.68$, and $\frac{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\rightarrowπ^0π^0χ_{c0})}{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\toπ^+π^-J/ψ)}<1.7$. Combined with the BESIII measurement of $X(3872)\toπ^0χ_{c1}$, we also set an upper limit of $\frac{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\rightarrowπ^0χ_{c0})}{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\toπ^0χ_{c1})}<4.4$.

An isoscalar state with exotic quantum numbers $J^{PC}=1^{-+}$, denoted as $η_1(1855)$, has been observed for the first time with statistical significance larger than 19$σ$. Its mass and width are measured to be (1855$\pm$9$_{-1}^{+6}$)~MeV/$c^{2}$ and (188$\pm$18$_{-8}^{+3}$)~MeV, respectively. The product branching fraction ${\cal B}(J/ψ$$\rightarrow$$ γη_1(1855)$$\rightarrow$$γηη')$ is measured to be (2.70$\pm 0.41 _{-0.35}^{+0.16}) \times$10$^{-6}$. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. In addition, an upper limit on the branching ratio ${\cal B}(f_0(1710)$$\rightarrow$$ηη')$/${\cal B}(f_0(1710)$$\rightarrow$$ππ)$ is determined to be $1.61 \times 10^{-3}$ at 90\% confidence level, which lends support to the hypothesis that the $f_0(1710)$ has a large glueball component.

The $X(2600)$ is observed with a statistical significance larger than 20$σ$ in the $π^{+}π^{-}η'$ invariant mass spectrum, and it has a strong correlation to a structure around 1.5$~\mathrm{GeV}$/{\it c}$^{2}$ in the $π^{+}π^{-}$ invariant mass spectrum. A simultaneous fit on the $π^{+}π^{-}η'$ and $π^{+}π^{-}$ invariant mass spectra with the two $η'$ decay modes indicates that the mass and width of the $X(2600)$ state are $2617.8\pm2.1 ^{+18.2}_{-1.9}~\mathrm{MeV}$/{\it c}$^{2}$ and $200\pm8^{+20}_{-17}~\mathrm{MeV}$, respectively. The results are consistent with theoretical predictions. No significant signal is observed for $J/ψ\to μ^+μ^-μ^+μ^-$, and an upper limit on the branching fraction is set at $1.6\times 10^{-6}$ at the 90$\%$ confidence level. A CP asymmetry observable is constructed for the first two channels, which is measured to be $(-0.012\pm0.054\pm0.010)$ and $(0.062\pm0.059\pm0.006)$, respectively. No evidence for CP violation is observed in this process.

We present line and continuum observations (resolution ~0.3"-3.5") made with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), Submillimeter Array, and Very Large Array of a young O-type protostar W42-MME (mass: 19-4 Msun). The ALMA 1.35 mm continuum map (resolution ~1") shows that W42-MME is embedded in one of the cores (i.e., MM1) located within a thermally supercritical filament-like feature (extent ~0.15 pc) containing three cores (mass ~1-4.4 Msun). Several dense/hot gas tracers are detected toward MM1, suggesting the presence of a hot molecular core with the gas temperature of ~38-220~K. The ALMA 865 micron continuum map (resolution ~0.3") reveals at least five continuum sources/peaks ("A-E") within a dusty envelope (extent ~9000 AU) toward MM1, where shocks are traced in the SiO(8-7) emission. The source "A" associated with W42-MME is seen almost at the center of the dusty envelope, and is surrounded by other continuum peaks. The ALMA CO(3-2) and SiO(8-7) line observations show the bipolar outflow extended below 10000 AU, which is driven by the source "A". The ALMA data hint the episodic ejections from W42-MME. A disk-like feature (extent ~2000 AU; mass ~1 Msun) with velocity gradients is investigated in the source "A" (dynamical mass ~9 Msun) using the ALMA H13CO+ emission, and is perpendicular to the CO outflow. A small-scale feature (below 3000 AU) probably heated by UV radiation from the O-type star is also investigated toward the source "A". Overall, W42-MME appears to gain mass from its disk and the dusty envelope.

The superconducting state in the quasi-two-dimensional and strongly correlated Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ is uniquely held up as a solid state analog to superfluid $^3$He-$A$, with an odd-parity order parameter that also breaks time reversal symmetry, and for which the vector order parameter has the same direction in spin space for all electron momenta. The recent discovery that uniaxial pressure causes a steep rise and maximum in transition temperature ($T_c$) in strained samples motivated the study of $^{17}$O nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) that we describe in this article. A reduction of Knight shifts $K$ was observed for all strain values and temperatures $T<T_c$, consistent with a drop in spin polarization in the superconducting state. In unstrained samples, our results are in contradiction with a body of previous NMR work, and with the most prominent previous proposals for the order parameter of Sr$_2$RuO$_4$. Possible alternative scenarios are discussed.

The driving source of the extended high velocity well collimated bipolar outflow is not the most pronounced disk-like SMA1 clump harboring a 20 M$_\odot$ young star (S255 NIRS3), as it was assumed earlier. Apparently it is the less evolved SMA2 clump, which drives the outflow and contains a compact rotating structure (probably a disk). At the same time the SMA1 clump drives another outflow, with a larger opening angle. The molecular line data do not show an outflow from the SMA3 clump (NIRS1), which was suggested by IR studies of this region.

Observations of the S255IR region were carried out with ALMA at two epochs in the compact and extended configurations. Results. We serendipitously detected a new, never predicted, bright maser line at about 349.1 GHz, which most probably represents the CH$_3$OH $14_{1} - 14_{0}$ A$^{- +}$ transition. The emission covers most of the 6.7 GHz methanol maser emission area of almost 1$^{\prime\prime}$ in size and shows a velocity gradient in the same sense as the disk rotation. No variability was found on the time interval of several months. It is classified as Class II maser and probably originates in a ring at a distance of several hundreds AU from the central star.

Quantum Hall ferromagnetic transitions are typically achieved by increasing the Zeeman energy through in-situ sample rotation, while transitions in systems with pseudo-spin indices can be induced by gate control. We report here a gate-controlled quantum Hall ferromagnetic transition between two real spin states in a conventional two-dimensional system without any in-plane magnetic field. We show that the ratio of the Zeeman splitting to the cyclotron gap in a Ge two-dimensional hole system increases with decreasing density owing to inter-carrier interactions. Below a critical density of $\sim2.4\times 10^{10}$ cm$^{-2}$, this ratio grows greater than $1$, resulting in a ferromagnetic ground state at filling factor $ν=2$. At the critical density, a resistance peak due to the formation of microscopic domains of opposite spin orientations is observed. Such gate-controlled spin-polarizations in the quantum Hall regime opens the door to realizing Majorana modes using two-dimensional systems in conventional, low-spin-orbit-coupling semiconductors.

$Aims.$ We study the relation between the jet and the outflow in the IRAS 04166+2706 protostar. This Taurus protostar drives a molecular jet that contains multiple emission peaks symmetrically located from the central source. The protostar also drives a wide-angle outflow consisting of two conical shells.
$Methods.$ We have used the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) interferometer to observe two fields along the IRAS 04166+2706 jet. The fields were centered on a pair of emission peaks that correspond to the same ejection event, and were observed in CO(2-1), SiO(5-4), and SO(65-54).
$ Results.$ Both ALMA fields present spatial distributions that are approximately elliptical and have their minor axes aligned with the jet direction. As the velocity increases, the emission in each field moves gradually across the elliptical region. This systematic pattern indicates that the emitting gas in each field lies in a disk-like structure that is perpendicular to the jet axis and is expanding away from the jet. A small degree of curvature in the first-moment maps indicates that the disks are slightly curved in the manner expected for bow shocks moving away from the IRAS source. A simple geometrical model confirms that this scenario fits the main emission features.
$Conclusions.$ The emission peaks in the IRAS 04166+2706 jet likely represent internal bow shocks where material is being ejected laterally away from the jet axis. While the linear momentum of the ejected gas is dominated by the component in the jet direction, the sideways component is not negligible, and can potentially affect the distribution of gas in the surrounding outflow and core.

We report the results of our observations of the S255IR area with the SMA at 1.3 mm in the very extended configuration and at 0.8 mm in the compact configuration as well as with the IRAM-30m at 0.8 mm. The best achieved angular resolution is about 0.4 arcsec. The dust continuum emission and several tens of molecular spectral lines are observed. The majority of the lines is detected only towards the S255IR-SMA1 clump, which represents a rotating structure (probably disk) around the young massive star. The achieved angular resolution is still insufficient for conclusions about Keplerian or non-Keplerian character of the rotation. The temperature of the molecular gas reaches 130-180 K. The size of the clump is about 500 AU. The clump is strongly fragmented as follows from the low beam filling factor. The mass of the hot gas is significantly lower than the mass of the central star. A strong DCN emission near the center of the hot core most probably indicates a presence of a relatively cold ($\lesssim 80$ K) and rather massive clump there. High velocity emission is observed in the CO line as well as in lines of high density tracers HCN, HCO+, CS and other molecules. The outflow morphology obtained from combination of the SMA and IRAM-30m data is significantly different from that derived from the SMA data alone. The CO emission detected with the SMA traces only one boundary of the outflow. The outflow is most probably driven by jet bow shocks created by episodic ejections from the center. We detected a dense high velocity clump associated apparently with one of the bow shocks. The outflow strongly affects the chemical composition of the surrounding medium.

To develop and test this capability, a Long Baseline Campaign (LBC) was carried out from September to late November 2014, culminating in end-to-end observations, calibrations, and imaging of selected Science Verification (SV) targets. This paper presents an overview of the campaign and its main results, including an investigation of the short-term coherence properties and systematic phase errors over the long baselines at the ALMA site, a summary of the SV targets and observations, and recommendations for science observing strategies at long baselines. Deep ALMA images of the quasar 3C138 at 97 and 241 GHz are also compared to VLA 43 GHz results, demonstrating an agreement at a level of a few percent. As a result of the extensive program of LBC testing, the highly successful SV imaging at long baselines achieved angular resolutions as fine as 19 mas at ~350 GHz. Observing with ALMA on baselines of up to 15 km is now possible, and opens up new parameter space for submm astronomy.

We present the various science cases for building Band 1 receivers as part of ALMA's ongoing Development Program. We describe the new frequency range for Band 1 of 35-52 GHz, a range chosen to maximize the receiver suite's scientific impact. We first describe two key science drivers: 1) the evolution of grains in protoplanetary disks and debris disks, and 2) molecular gas in galaxies during the era of re-ionization. Studies of these topics with Band 1 receivers will significantly expand ALMA's Level 1 Science Goals. In addition, we describe a host of other exciting continuum and line science cases that require ALMA's high sensitivity and angular resolution. For example, ALMA Band 1 continuum data will probe the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich Effect in galaxy clusters, Very Small Grains and spinning dust, ionized jets from young stars, spatial and flaring studies of Sgr A*, the acceleration sites of solar flares, pulsar wind nebulae, radio supernovae, and X-ray binaries. Furthermore, ALMA Band 1 line data will probe chemical differentiation in cloud cores, complex carbon chain molecules, extragalactic radio recombination lines, masers, magnetic fields through Zeeman effect measurements, molecular outflows from young stars, the co-evolution of star formation and active galactic nuclei, and the molecular content of galaxies at z ~ 3. ALMA provides similar to better sensitivities than the JVLA over 35-50 GHz, with differences increasing with frequency. ALMA's smaller antennas and shorter baselines, greater number of baselines, and single-dish capabilities, however, give it a significant edge for observing extended emission, making wide-field maps (mosaics), or attaining high image fidelity, as required by the described science cases.

The angular resolution was from ~ 2" to ~ 5" for all instruments. With the SMA we detected a total of about 50 spectral lines of 20 different molecules (including isotopologues). About half of the lines and half of the species (in particular N2H+, SiO, C34S, DCN, DNC, DCO+, HC3N, H2CO, H2CS, SO2) have not been previously reported in S255IR and partly in S255N at high angular resolution. Our data reveal several new clumps in the S255IR and S255N areas by their millimeter wave continuum emission. Masses of these clumps are estimated at a few solar masses. The line widths greatly exceed expected thermal widths. These clumps have practically no association with NIR or radio continuum sources, implying a very early stage of evolution. At the same time, our SiO data indicate the presence of high-velocity outflows related to some of these clumps. In some cases, strong molecular emission at velocities of the quiescent gas has no detectable counterpart in the continuum. We discuss the main features of the distribution of NH3, N2H+, and deuterated molecules. We estimate properties of decimeter wave radio continuum sources and their relationship with the molecular material.

We present sensitive high angular resolution ($\sim$ 1$"$) millimeter continuum and line observations from the massive star forming region DR21(OH) located in the Cygnus X molecular cloud. Within the well-known dusty MM1-2 molecular cores, we report the detection of a new cluster of about ten compact continuum millimeter sources with masses between 5 and 24 M$_\odot$, and sizes of a few thousands of astronomical units. These objects are likely to be large dusty envelopes surrounding massive protostars, some of them most probably driving several of the outflows that emanate from this region. Additionally, we report the detection of strong millimeter emission of formaldehyde (H$_2$CO) and methanol (CH$_3$OH) near 218 GHz as well as compact emission from the typical outflow tracers carbon monoxide and silicon monoxide (CO and SiO) toward this massive star-forming region. The H$_2$CO and CH$_3$OH emission is luminous ($\sim$ 10$^{-4}$ L$_{\odot}$), well resolved, and found along the collimated methanol maser outflow first identified at centimeter wavelengths and in the sources SMA6 and SMA7. Our observations suggest that this maser outflow might be energized by a millimeter source called SMA4 located in the MM2 dusty core. The CO and SiO emission traces some other collimated outflows that emanate from MM1-2 cores, and are not related with the low velocity maser outflow.

The small dust disks are within the Roche limit, and are commonly accepted to have originated from tidally crushed asteroids. We present observations of CH3CN (12-11) emission at a resolution of 2" toward the shell-like ultracompact HII region G5.89-0.39 with the Submillimeter Array. The integrated CH3CN emission reveals dense and hot molecular cocoon in the periphery of the HII region G5.89-0.39, with a CH3CN deficient region roughly centered at G5.89-0.39. By analyzing the CH3CN emission using population diagram analysis, we find, for the first time, a decreasing temperature structure from 150 to 40 K with the projected distance from Feldt's star, which is thought to be responsible for powering the HII region. Our results further indicate that the majority of the heating energy in the observed dense gas is supplied by the Feldt's star. From the derived CH3CN column density profile, we conclude that the dense gas is not uniformly-distributed but centrally-concentrated, with a power-law exponent of 5.5 for r < 8000 AU, and 2.0 for 8000 AU < r < 20000 AU, where r is the distance to Feldt's star. The estimated large power index of 5.5 can be attributed to an enhancement of CH3CN abundance in the close vicinity of Feldt's star.

Hard X-ray (~1 keV) emission associated with a WD is usually attributed to a binary companion; however, emission at 1 keV has been detected from three WDs without companions: KPD 0005+5106, PG 1159, and WD 2226-210. The origin of their hard X-ray emission is unknown, although it has been suggested that WD 2226-210 has a late-type companion whose coronal activity is responsible for the hard X-rays. Recent Spitzer observations of WD 2226-210 revealed mid-IR excess emission indicative of the existence of a dust disk. It now becomes much less clear whether WD 2226-210's hard X-ray emission originates from the corona of a late-type companion or from the accretion of the disk material. High-quality X-ray observations and mid-IR observations of KPD 0005+5106 and PG 1159 are needed to help us understand the origin of their hard X-ray emission.

Additional dust continuum peaks MM-4 and MM-5 appear to be associated with \h2O masers. With many continuum sources at cm and mm wavelengths, and those already identified in the infrared, this region is forming a cluster of stars.
The CO and SO emission reveals at least three molecular outflows originating from the center of the dust core. The outflows are well collimated, with terminal velocities up to 50 \kms-1 from the cloud velocity. Outflow A coincides with the SiO jet identified previously by Hunter et al. (1999). Since jet-like outflows and disk-mediated accretion process are physically connected, the well collimated outflows indicate that even in this cluster environment, accretion is responsible for the formation of individual stars in the cluster.

We present initial results of an ongoing search for interferometric calibrators at submillimeter (sub-mm) wavelengths with the Submillimeter Array (SMA). Powerful radio galaxies are commonly used as calibrators at centimeter and millimeter wavelengths, but many are not strong enough to serve as calibrators at sub-mm wavelengths because of their rapidly declining flux densities toward shorter wavelengths. The inability to find a calibrator close to the target source may limit or even prevent us from imaging many interesting sources at sub-mm wavelengths. Here, we investigate whether high-mass protostellar objects and ultracompact HII regions can serve as useful calibrators for the SMA. The dust emission associated with these objects makes them among the brightest sub-mm sources in the sky. Our observations at 0.85 mm (345 GHz) with an angular resolution of ~3" reveal that although a large fraction of the dust emission originates from an extended ``halo'' component, a compact unresolved component often remains that when sufficiently strong may serve as a useful calibrator. These observations also provide a first glimpse at the small-scale distribution of dust around ultracompact HII regions and high-mass protostellar objects at sub-mm wavelengths. We discuss the origin of the core-halo structure seen in many sources, and conclude with suggestions for future searches for calibrators with the SMA.
