The Phase-I Trigger Readout Electronics Upgrade of the ATLAS Liquid Argon Calorimeters
Abstract: The Phase-I trigger readout electronics upgrade of the ATLAS Liquid Argon calorimeters enhances the physics reach of the experiment during the upcoming operation at increasing Large Hadron Collider luminosities. The new system, installed during the second Large Hadron Collider Long Shutdown, increases the trigger readout granularity by up to a factor of ten as well as its precision and range. Cons… ▽ More

R&D Towards Cryogenic Optical Links
Abstract: A number of critical active and passive components of optical links have been tested at 77 K or lower temperatures, demonstrating potential development of optical links operating inside the liquid argon time projection chamber (LArTPC) detector cryostat. A ring oscillator, individual MOSFETs, and a high speed 16:1 serializer fabricated in a commercial 0.25-um silicon-on-sapphire CMOS technology co… ▽ More

Benefits to the U.S. from Physicists Working at Accelerators Overseas
Abstract: We illustrate benefits to the U.S. economy and technological infrastructure of U.S. participation in accelerators overseas. We discuss contributions to experimental hardware and analysis and to accelerator technology and components, and benefits stemming from the involvement of U.S. students and postdoctoral fellows in global scientific collaborations. Contributed to the proceedings of the Snowmas… ▽ More

Expected Performance of the ATLAS Experiment - Detector, Trigger and Physics
Abstract: A detailed study is presented of the expected performance of the ATLAS detector. The reconstruction of tracks, leptons, photons, missing energy and jets is investigated, together with the performance of b-tagging and the trigger. The physics potential for a variety of interesting physics processes, within the Standard Model and beyond, is examined. The study comprises a series of notes based on… ▽ More

Internal conversions in Higgs decays to two photons
Abstract: We evaluate the partial widths for internal conversions in the Higgs decays to two photons. For the Higgs masses of interest at LHC in the range of 100-150 GeV, the conversions to pairs of fermions represent significant fraction of Higgs decays.

SIMP (Strongly Interacting Massive Particle) Search
Abstract: We consider laboratory experiments that can detect stable, neutral strongly interacting massive particles (SIMPs). We explore the SIMP annihilation cross section from its minimum value (restricted by cosmological bounds) to the barn range, and vary the mass values from a GeV to a TeV. We also consider the prospects and problems of detecting such particles at the Tevatron.

Searching for Strongly Interacting Massive Particles (SIMPs)
Abstract: We consider laboratory experiments that can detect stable, neutral strongly interacting massive particles (SIMPs). We explore the SIMP annihilation cross section from its minimum value (restricted by cosmological bounds) to the barn range, and vary the mass values from a GeV to a TeV. We calculate, as a function of the SIMP-nucleon cross section, the minimum nucleon number A for which there shou… ▽ More

Axion search with optical technique
Abstract: A brief review of particle physics motivations for axion existence is followed by a discussion of optical observables that can be used for axion detection. It is emphasised that the resonant photon - axion transition can occur in the presence of low density gas bringing the experimentally accessible quantities within the reach of the present day technology.
