The nuclear effects in $g_{1^3\rm{He}}$ and the Bjorken sum rule for A=3
Abstract: The Bjorken sum rules for the $A=3$ and $A=1$ are used as a guide to estimate nuclear effects in extracting $g_{1n}(x,Q^{2})$ from the $\vec{e}\,\vec{^3\rm{He}}$ data. We estimate that the combination of the spin depolarization, the nonnucleonic degrees of freedom in the $A=3$ system and nuclear shadowing is likely to reduce $g_{1^3\rm{He}}(x\le 0.05)$ by $\sim 15 \%$ while a significant enhance… ▽ More

Nuclear phenomena at HERA energies
Abstract: We argue that current data on nuclear shadowing confirm expectations of the color singlet models of nuclear shadowing. We demonstrate that unitarity constrains require nuclear shadowing for gluons to be very significant already for $x \le 10^{-3}$ . Physics of coherent diffraction production of vector mesons off light nuclei is also discussed.

The Nucleon's Antiquark Sea: A Virtual Meson Cloud or Gluons?
Abstract: We study the possible contribution of the nucleon's virtual meson cloud to the sea quark distribution as observed in deep inelastic lepton scattering. We adjust the meson-nucleon cut-offs to the large-x tails of the antiquark distributions, find qualitatively different behavior in the flavor singlet and non-singlet channels and study the scale dependence of our results. We demonstrate that, with… ▽ More

QCD and Diffraction in DIS
Abstract: Coherence phenomena, and the non-universality of parton structure of the effective Pomeron are explained. New hard phenomena directly calculable in QCD such as diffractive electroproduction of states with $M^2\ll Q^2$ as well as new options to measure the light-cone wave functions of various hadrons are considered. An analogue of Bjorken scaling is predicted for the diffractive electroproduction… ▽ More

Hard diffractive electroproduction of vector mesons in QCD
Abstract: Hard diffractive electroproduction of longitudinally polarized vector mesons is calculated within the leading $α_s\ln{Q^2\overΛ_{QCD}^2}$ approximation of QCD using the leading order parton densities within the nucleon. Novel QCD features of the production of excited states and of the restoration of flavor symmetry are analyzed. At the onset of the asymptotic regime, our analysis finds an import… ▽ More

The Nucleon's Virtual Meson Cloud and Deep Inelastic Lepton Scattering
Abstract: We address the question whether the nucleon's antiquark sea can be attributed entirely to its virtual meson cloud and, in essence, whether there exists a smooth transition between hadronic and quark-gluon degrees of freedom. We take into account contributions from $π$ and $K$ mesons and compare with the nucleon's antiquark distributions which serve as a non-perturbative input to the QCD evolutio… ▽ More

Hadronic cross-section fluctuations and proton coherent diffractive dissociation on helium
Abstract: The differential cross-section of inelastic coherent diffractive dissociation off nuclei $p~+~^4$He $\rightarrow X ~+ ~^4$He is expressed in terms of the relative cumulants of the cross-section distribution $P_N(σ)$. The theoretical result for the ratio $r=\Bigg(\frac{dσ_{diff}}{dt}\Bigg)^{pHe}_{t=0} \Bigg/ \Bigg(\frac{dσ_{diff}}{dt}\Bigg)^{pp}_{t=0}=6.8 ÷7.6$ is close to the value… ▽ More

Correlations and Fluctuations in High-Energy Nuclear Collisions
Abstract: Nucleon correlations in the target and projectile nuclei are shown to reduce significantly the fluctuations in multiple nucleon-nucleon collisions, total multiplicity and transverse energy in relativistic heavy-ion collisions, in particular for heavy projectile and target. The interplay between cross-section fluctuations, from color transparency and opacity, and nuclear correlations is calculated… ▽ More

Correlation Effects in Nuclear Transparency
Abstract: The Glauber approximation is used to calculate the contribution of nucleon correlations in high-energy $A(e,e'N)$ reactions. When the excitation energy of the residual nucleus is small, the increase of the nuclear transparency due to correlations between the struck nucleon and the other nucleons is mostly compensated by a decrease of the transparency due to the correlations between non detected nu… ▽ More

Color Transparency Effects in Electron Deuteron Interactions at Intermediate Q^2
Abstract: High momentum transfer electrodisintegration of polarized and unpolarized deuterium targets, $d(e,e'p)n$ is studied. We show that the importance of final state interactions-FSI, occuring when a knocked out nucleon interacts with the other nucleon, depends strongly on the momentum of the spectator nucleon. In particular, these FSI occur when the essential contributions to the scattering amplitude a… ▽ More

Color Transparency and the Vanishing Deuterium Shadow
Abstract: We find that the final state interactions in the $d(e,e'np)$ amplitude depend strongly on the final momentum of the spectator nucleon. This means that color transparency effects can be studied at rather low four-momentum transfer $Q^2\geq$ 4 (GeV/c)$^2$ using un-polarized and polarized deuteron targets.

Probing Short Range Nucleon Correlations in High Energy Hard Quasielastic pd Reactions
Abstract: We show that the strong dependence of the amplitude for $NN$ hard scattering on the collision energy can be used to magnify the effects of short range nucleon correlations in quasielastic $pd$ scattering. Diffractive Leptoproduction of Vector Mesons in QCD
Abstract: We demonstrate that the distinctive features of the forward differential cross section of diffractive leptoproduction of a vector meson can be legitimately calculated in perturbative QCD in terms of the light-cone $q \bar q$ wave function of the vector meson and the gluon distribution of the target. In particular, we calculate the $Q^2$ and nuclear dependence of the diffractive leptoproduction o… ▽ More

Searching for Color Coherent Effects at Intermediate $Q^2$ via Double Scattering Processes
Abstract: We propose that measuring the $Q^2$ dependence of the number of final-state interactions of the recoil protons in quasi-elastic electron scattering from light nuclei is a new method to investigate Color Coherent effects at {\bf intermediate} values of $Q^2$ ({$\sim$ few $(GeV/c)^2$}). This is instead of measuring events without final-state interactions. Our calculations indicate that such measur… ▽ More

Evidence for Color Fluctuations in Hadrons from Coherent Nuclear Diffraction}
Abstract: A QCD-based treatment of projectile size fluctuations is used to compute inelastic diffractive cross sections $σ_{diff}$ for coherent hadron-nuclear processes. We find that fluctuations near the average size give the major contribution to the cross section with $ \le few \%$ contribution from small size configurations. The computed values of $σ_{diff}$ are consistent with the limited available… ▽ More

Coherent Nuclear Diffractive Production of Minijets - Illuminating Color Transparency
Abstract: The cross section for coherent nuclear processes in which an incident meson or photon dissociates diffractively into two jets of high relative transverse momentum (between about 1 and 3 GeV/c) is found to be proportional in QCD to $A^2$ in a wide kinematical region. The leading correction to this is a significant positive term $\propto A^{7/3}$ caused by nuclear multiple-scattering. We find also… ▽ More

Diffractive Hard Scattering with a Coherent Pomeron
Abstract: Diffractive scattering involves exchange of a Pomeron to make a rapidity gap. It is normally assumed that to get a hard scattering in diffraction, one may treat the Pomeron as an ordinary particle, which has distributions of gluons and quarks. We show that this is not so: When we use perturbative QCD, there is a breakdown of the factorization theorem. The whole Pomeron can initiate the hard scat… ▽ More

Sum Rule Description of Color Transparency
Abstract: The assumption that a small point-like configuration does not interact with nucleons leads to a new set of sum rules that are interpreted as models of the baryon-nucleon interaction. These models are rendered semi-realistic by requiring consistency with data for cross section fluctuations in proton-proton diffractive collisions.
