We study the energy transfer process in the recently proposed sunburst quantum Ising model, which consists of two interacting integrable systems: a transverse Ising chain with a very small transverse field and a finite number of external isolated qubits. We show that in this model of the quantum battery, coupling between the battery and charger can be used to optimize the ergotropy, which is the maximum amount of energy that can be extracted from the battery. At the same time, maximum charging power increases with the coupling strength, allowing for the simultaneous optimization of both ergotropy and charging power in the strong coupling limit. Furthermore, we show that both ergotropy and charging power are independent of the initial state of the charger.

We study the non-equilibrium dynamics of an isolated bipartite quantum system, the sunburst quantum Ising model, under interaction quench. The pre-quench limit of this model is two non-interacting integrable systems, namely a transverse ising chain and finite number of isolated qubits. As a function of interaction strength, the spectral fluctuation property goes from Poisson to Wigner-Dyson statistics. We chose entanglement entropy as a probe to study the approach to thermalization or lack of it in post-quench dynamics. In the near-integrable limit, as expected, the linear entropy displays oscillatory behavior while in the chaotic limit, it saturates. Along with the chaotic nature of the time evolution generator, we show the importance of the role played by the coherence of the initial state in deciding the nature of thermalization. We further show that these findings are general by replacing the Ising ring with a disordered $XXZ$ model with disorder strength putting it in the many-body localized phase.

We investigate the level spacing distribution for three ensembles of real symmetric matrices having additional structural constraint to reduce the number of independent entries to only $ (n+1)/2 $ in contrast to the $ n(n+1)/2 $ for a real symmetric matrix of size $ n \times n $. We derive all the results analytically exactly for the $ 3\times 3 $ matrices and show that spacing distribution display a range of behaviour based on the structural constraint. The spacing distribution of the ensemble of reverse circulant matrices with additional zeros is found to fall slower than exponential for larger spacing while that of symmetric circulant matrices has poisson spacings. The palindromic symmetric toeplitz matrices on the other hand show level repulsion but the distribution is significantly different from Wigner. The behaviour of spacings for all the three ensembles clearly show the departure from universal result of Wigner distribution for real symmetric matrices. The deviation from universality continues in large $ n $ cases as well, which we study numerically.

Quantum backflow refers to the counterintuitive fact that the probability can flow in the direction opposite to the momentum of a quantum particle. This phenomenon has been seen to be small and fragile for one-dimensional systems, in which the maximal amount of backflow has been found to be bounded. Quantum backflow exhibits dramatically different features in two-dimensional systems that, contrary to the one-dimensional case, allow for degenerate energy eigenstates. Here we investigate the case of a charged particle that is confined to move on a finite disk punctured at the center and that is pierced through the center, and normally to the disk, by a magnetic flux line. We demonstrate that quantum backflow can be unbounded (in a certain sense), which makes this system a promising physical platform regarding the yet-to-be-performed experimental observation of this fundamental quantum phenomenon.

We study the spectral properties of a multiparametric system having particle-hole symmetry in random matrix setting. We observe a crossover from Poisson to Wigner-Dyson like behavior in average local ratio of spacing within a spectrum of single matrix as a function of effective single parameter referred to as complexity parameter. The average local ratio of spacing varies logarithmically in complexity parameter across the transition. This behavior is universal for different ensembles subjected to same matrix constraint like particle-hole symmetry. The universality of this dependence is further established by studying interpolating ensemble connecting systems with particle-hole symmetry to that with chiral symmetry. For each interpolating ensemble the behavior remains logarithmic in complexity parameter. We verify this universality of spectral fluctuation in case of a 2D Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) like model along with the logarithmic dependence on complexity parameter for ratio of spacing during transition from integrable to non-integrable limit.

A bipartite system whose subsystems are fully quantum chaotic and coupled by a perturbative interaction with a tunable strength is a paradigmatic model for investigating how isolated quantum systems relax towards an equilibrium. It is found that quantum coherence of the initial product states in the uncoupled eigenbasis can be viewed as a resource for equilibration and approach to thermalization as manifested by the entanglement. Results are given for four distinct perturbation strength regimes, the ultra-weak, weak, intermediate, and strong regimes. For each, three types of initially unentangled states are considered, coherent random-phase superpositions, random superpositions, and eigenstate products. A universal time scale is identified involving the interaction strength parameter. Maximally coherent initial states thermalize for any perturbation strength in spite of the fact that in the ultra-weak perturbative regime the underlying eigenstates of the system have a tensor product structure and are not at all thermal-like; though the time taken to thermalize tends to infinity as the interaction vanishes. In contrast to the widespread linear behavior, in this regime the entanglement initially grows quadratically in time.

With the integration of Renewable Energy Sources (RESs), the power network must be robust to handle the system's uncertain scenarios. DC Transmission Expansion Planning (TEP) plans are generally not feasible for the AC network. A first bi-level Robust Optimization (RO) solution approach for AC TEP with injection uncertainties in loads and RESs generations is proposed in this paper. It utilizes a well-known convex relaxation and is solved by Benders Decomposition (BD), where the master determines the robust AC TEP plan. A novel dual slave model is developed for the second level of BD, which circumvents the issues in using the Conic Duality Theory (CDT), and aids in the worst-case realization of uncertainties using a novel set of constraints. The developed dual slave is not a mixed-integer problem and is solved using the Primal-Dual Interior Point Method (PDIPM). The proposed work also uses additional linear constraints to reduce BD's computational burden and direct the master towards optimality. Monte-Carlo Simulation (MCS) based verification, via actual nonlinear and non-convex AC Optimal Power Flow (OPF), proves 100% robustness of the TEP plans for all scenarios.

The entanglement production in bipartite quantum systems is studied for initially unentangled product eigenstates of the subsystems, which are assumed to be quantum chaotic. Based on a perturbative computation of the Schmidt eigenvalues of the reduced density matrix, explicit expressions for the time-dependence of entanglement entropies, including the von Neumann entropy, are given. An appropriate re-scaling of time and the entropies by their saturation values leads a universal curve, independent of the interaction. The extension to the non-perturbative regime is performed using a recursively embedded perturbation theory to produce the full transition and the saturation values. The analytical results are found to be in good agreement with numerical results for random matrix computations and a dynamical system given by a pair of coupled kicked rotors.

The quantum dynamics of isolated systems under quench condition exhibits a variety of interesting features depending on the integrable/chaotic nature of system. We study the exact dynamics of trivially integrable system of harmonic chains under a multiple quench protocol. Out of time ordered correlator of two Hermitian operators at large time displays scrambling in the thermodynamic limit. In this limit, the entanglement entropy and the central component of momentum distribution both saturate to a steady state value. We also show that reduced density matrix assumes the diagonal form long after multiple quenches for large system size. These exact results involving infinite dimensional Hilbert space are indicative of local thermal behaviour for a trivially integrable harmonic chain.

Spectral statistics of quantum systems have been studied in detail using the nearest neighbour level spacings, which for generic chaotic systems follows random matrix theory predictions. In this work, the probability density of the closest neighbour and farther neighbour spacings from a given level are introduced. Analytical predictions are derived using a $3 \times 3$ matrix model. The closest neighbour density is generalized to the $k-$th closest neighbour spacing density, which allows for investigating long-range correlations. For larger $k$ the probability density of $k-$th closest neighbour spacings is well described by a Gaussian. Using these $k-$th closest neighbour spacings we propose the ratio of the closest neighbour to the second closest neighbour as an alternative to the ratio of successive spacings. For a Poissonian spectrum the density of the ratio is flat, whereas for the three Gaussian ensembles repulsion at small values is found. The ordered spacing statistics and their ratio are numerically studied for the integrable circle billiard, the chaotic cardioid billiard, the standard map and the zeroes of the Riemann zeta function. Very good agreement with the predictions is found.

We derive universal entanglement entropy and Schmidt eigenvalue behaviors for the eigenstates of two quantum chaotic systems coupled with a weak interaction. The progression from a lack of entanglement in the noninteracting limit to the entanglement expected of fully randomized states in the opposite limit is governed by the single scaling transition parameter, $Λ$. The behaviors apply equally well to few- and many-body systems, e.g.\ interacting particles in quantum dots, spin chains, coupled quantum maps, and Floquet systems as long as their subsystems are quantum chaotic, and not localized in some manner. To calculate the generalized moments of the Schmidt eigenvalues in the perturbative regime, a regularized theory is applied, whose leading order behaviors depend on $\sqrtΛ$. The marginal case of the $1/2$ moment, which is related to the distance to closest maximally entangled state, is an exception having a $\sqrtΛ\ln Λ$ leading order and a logarithmic dependence on subsystem size. A recursive embedding of the regularized perturbation theory gives a simple exponential behavior for the von Neumann entropy and the Havrda-Charv{\' a}t-Tsallis entropies for increasing interaction strength, demonstrating a universal transition to nearly maximal entanglement. Moreover, the full probability densities of the Schmidt eigenvalues, i.e.\ the entanglement spectrum, show a transition from power laws and Lévy distribution in the weakly interacting regime to random matrix results for the strongly interacting regime. The predicted behaviors are tested on a pair of weakly interacting kicked rotors, which follow the universal behaviors extremely well.

We present an exact and fully analytical treatment of the entanglement dynamics for an isolated system of $N$ coupled oscillators following a sudden quench of the system parameters. The system is analyzed using the solutions of the time dependent Schrodinger's equation, which are obtained by solving the corresponding nonlinear Ermakov equations. The entanglement entropies exhibit a multi-oscillatory behaviour, where the number of dynamically generated time scales increases with $N$. The harmonic chains exhibit entanglement revival and for larger values of $N (> 10)$, we find near-critical logarithmic scaling for the entanglement entropy, which is modulated by a time dependent factor. The $N=2$ case is equivalent to the two site Bose-Hubbard model in the tunneling regime, which is amenable to empirical realization in cold atom systems.

This paper represents an exploration of record statistics for certain aspects of the classical and quantum standard map. For instance the momentum square or energy records is shown to behave like that of records in random walks when the classical standard map is in a regime of hard chaos. However different power laws is observed for the mixed phase space regimes. The presence of accelerator modes are well-known to create anomalous diffusion and we notice here that the record statistics is very sensitive to their presence. We present a Gaussian ensemble of random cyclic matrices on the real field and study their spectral fluctuations. These cyclic matrices are shown to be pseudo-symmetric with respect to generalized parity. We calculate the joint probability distribution function of eigenvalues and the spacing distributions analytically and numerically. For small spacings, the level spacing distribution exhibits either a Gaussian or a linear form. Furthermore, for the general case of two arbitrary complex eigenvalues, leaving out the spacings among real eigenvalues, and, among complex conjugate pairs, we find that the spacing distribution agrees completely with the Wigner distribution for Poisson process on a plane. The cyclic matrices occur in a wide variety of physical situations, including disordered linear atomic chains and Ising model in two dimensions.
