The isoscalar and isovector components and their contributions to $M1$ transitions are discussed in the odd-$A$, $T=1/2$ mirror nuclei with mass ranging from $A=23$ to 37. The orbital contributions in various $M1$ transitions and ground state magnetic moments are calculated by comparing analogous $M1$ and Gamow-Teller transitions between mirror pairs. The orbital contributions in different $M1$ transitions are explained on the basis of configurations of the initial and final states involved. In magnetic moments, the orbital contributions are found to be dependent on the deformation and single-particle nature of the states. All the $T=1/2$ mirror pairs are studied using isospin non-conserving interaction. The results are also compared with predictions from \textit{ab initio} effective interaction derived from realistic nuclear forces.

High-spin states in the transitional $^{217}$Ac nucleus are established up to 3.8 MeV excitation energy and $I^π =$ 41/2$^+$ with the addition of around 20 new transitions. The structure of the yrast and near-yrast states below the 29/2$^+$ isomer is revisited. The inconsistencies in the level schemes reported earlier are resolved. The level structure above the 29/2$^+$ isomer is established for the first time. Large-basis shell-model calculations with the KHPE interaction are performed to compare the experimentally observed level energies with the theoretical predictions. A comparison with the systematics of the N = 128 isotones suggests that the yrast structures result from a weak coupling of the odd proton to the even-even 216Ra core, which is consistent with the shell-model configurations. Furthermore, alpha decay of the 29/2$^+$ isomer is revisited and the decay scheme established from this work is discussed in the framework of the shell model.

The importance of the isospin symmetry and its breaking in elucidating the properties of atomic nuclei is reviewed. The quark mass splitting and the electromagnetic origin of the isospin symmetry breaking (ISB) for nuclear many-body problem is discussed. The experimental data on isobaric analogue states cannot be described only with the Coulomb interaction, and ISB terms in the nucleon-nucleon interaction are needed to discern the observed properties. In the present work, the ISB terms are explicitly considered in nuclear energy density functional and spherical shell model approaches, and a detailed investigation of the analogue states and other properties of nuclei is performed. It is observed that isospin mixing is largest for the $N=Z$ system in the density functional approach.

In this work, we have studied the $2νββ$ decay of $^{76}$Ge and $^{96}$Zr isotopes utilizing large-scale shell-model calculations. The GWBXG effective interaction has been employed in the calculation of $2νββ$-decay nuclear matrix elements (NMEs). We have tested the effective interaction by comparing the predicted spectroscopic properties, such as energy spectra and transition probabilities, with the available experimental data. The variation of cumulative NMEs with respect to the $1^+$ state energies of the intermediate nucleus is also studied, corresponding to $0^+_{\rm g.s}\rightarrow0^+_{\rm g.s}$, $0^+_{\rm g.s}\rightarrow0^+_{2}$, and $0^+_{\rm g.s}\rightarrow2^+_{1}$ transitions between the parent and granddaughter nuclei. The extracted half-lives using the shell-model predicted NMEs show good agreement with the recent experimental data. The comparison of the shell-model predicted NMEs with previous NMEs available in the literature is discussed. Also, the computed branching ratios for the $2νββ$ decay of $^{76}$Ge and both the $2νββ$ and single-$β$ decay of $^{96}$Zr are reported.

We have placed the isomer at 5505.2(2) keV with $J^π = 5^-$, decaying primarily via an $E3$ transition to the $2^+_1$ state. The $E3$ strength of 0.0841(10) W.u. is unusually small and suggests that this isomer is dominated by the $(νd_{3/2})^{-1} \otimes (νf_{7/2})^{1}$ configuration, which is sensitive to the $N=20$ shell gap. A newly observed $4^+_1$ state is placed at 5881.4(13) keV; its energy is enhanced by the $Z=14$ subshell closure. This indicates that the isomer is located in a `yrast trap', a feature rarely seen at low mass numbers.

Inspired by the recent high-spin experimental data, the structure of Tl isotopes has been studied for a considerably large model space. The core excitation has been performed using the KHH7B and KHM3Y interactions. The level spectra of $^{204-210}$Tl isotopes are comprehensively described and explained by multi-nucleon couplings of single-particle-hole orbitals within the valence space and by core excitations across $^{208}$Pb core. We have employed JUN45 interaction to calculate the nuclear matrix element (NME) for $2νββ$ decay in $^{82}$Se. In the case of $^{94}$Zr, the glekpn effective interaction is used. For $^{108}$Cd, we have used a realistic effective interaction derived through the G-matrix approach. In the case of $^{124}$Sn, $^{128,130}$Te and $^{136}$Xe, the sn100pn effective interaction is employed. For $^{150}$Nd, we have used KHHE effective interaction based on holes in a $^{208}$Pb core. We have extracted the half-lives of these nuclei for the $2νββ$ decay with the help of calculated NME. Our results are consistent with the available experimental half-lives. The variation of cumulative $2νββ$ NME with respect to the excitation energy of the intermediate $1^+$ states is also shown, and in all cases, it is ensured that their values are almost saturated. In the present work we have calculated more intermediate $1^+$ states as much as possible in comparison to results available in the literature.

In the noisy intermediate-scale quantum era, variational algorithms have become a standard approach to solving quantum many-body problems. Here, we present variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) results of selected oxygen isotopes within the shell model description. The aim of the present work is to locate the neutron drip line of the oxygen chain using unitary coupled cluster (UCC) type ansatze with different microscopic interactions (DJ16, JISP16, and N3LO), in addition to a phenomenological USDB interaction. While initially infeasible to execute on contemporary quantum hardware, the size of the problem is reduced significantly using qubit tapering techniques in conjunction with custom circuit design and optimization. The optimal values of ansatz parameters from classical simulation are taken for the DJ16 interaction, and the tapered circuits are run on IonQ's Aria, a trapped-ion quantum computer. After applying gate error mitigation for three isotopes, we reproduced exact ground state energies within a few percent error. The post-processed results from hardware also clearly show $^{24}$O as the drip line nucleus of the oxygen chain. Future improvements in quantum hardware could make it possible to locate drip lines of heavier nuclei.

We have performed calculations using KHH7B interaction in the model space $Z$ = 58-114 and $N$ = 100-164 around doubly-magic $^{208}$Pb. We allow valence neutrons to occupy in the $1f_{5/2}$, $2p_{3/2}$, $2p_{1/2}$, and $0i_{13/2}$ orbitals, while two valence protons beyond $Z=82$ are occupied in $0h_{9/2}$, $1f_{7/2}$ and $0i_{13/2}$ orbitals. The calculated energies and electromagnetic properties are compared with the available experimental data and predicted where experimental data are not available. We have also reported shell-model results for different isomeric states of these nuclei.

These interactions are derived using the \textit{ab initio} no-core shell-model and the OLS unitary transformation method. We calculate energy spectra and electromagnetic properties to test the predictive strength of the effective interactions for these heavier $sd$-shell nuclei. For a complete systematic study, we compare the microscopic results with the phenomenological USDB results and experimental data. By looking at the excitation energies of these nuclei, the DJ16A interaction is found to be {the} most suitable for these $sd$-shell nuclei among all microscopic interactions. The electric quadrupole transition strength and excitation energy of the first $2^+$ state data of even-even sulphur isotopes indicate the presence of the $N=20$ shell closure. Quadrupole moment predictions are also made using these interactions where experimental data are unknown. Magnetic moments are in excellent agreement with the experimental values. The root-mean-square deviations are also calculated to provide an idea of how accurate the interactions are.

In this work, Na isotopes with mass varying from $A=$ 20 to 31 have been studied using DJ16A, JISP16 and N3LO microscopic effective interactions in the $sd$-shell. These effective interactions are derived for $sd$-shell using no-core shell model wavefunctions and a unitary transformation method. We have also performed calculation with IMSRG effective interactions targeted for a particular nucleus. The studies include a detailed analysis of ground state binding energy, low-lying spectra, and electromagnetic properties such as reduced electric quadrupole transition strengths, quadrupole and magnetic dipole moments of the Na chain. The results obtained from these microscopic effective interactions were compared with the experimental data as well as with the results of phenomenological interaction USDB. The charge radii of Na isotopes are evaluated using shell model harmonic oscillator wave functions. In addition to charge radii, matter radii and neutron skin thickness in the Na chain are discussed with a focus on neutron-deficient Na isotopes.

A systematic study of $B(E3)$ values for the transitions de-exciting the 29/2$^{+}$ isomer in the neighboring odd-$A$ At isotopes suggests a half-life in the 2$-$4.5 $μ$s range for this state in $^{207}$At. The experimental results are compared with large-scale shell-model calculations performed using the KHM3Y effective interaction in the $Z$ = 50$-$126, $N$ = 82$-$184 model space and an overall good agreement is noted between the theory and the experiment. A qualitative comparison of the excited states and the isomers with analogous states in neighboring nuclei provides further insight into the structure of $^{207}$At.

We report the low-lying energy spectra of both positive and negative parity states for the $^{10-14}\text{C}$ isotopes and investigate the level structures. We also calculate electromagnetic properties such as transition strengths, quadrupole and magnetic moments. The dependence of point-proton radii on the harmonic oscillator frequency and basis space is shown. We present calculations of the translation invariant one-body density matrix in the no-core shell model and discuss isotopic trends in the density distribution. The maximum basis space reached is $10 \hbar Ω$ for $^{10}\text{C}$ and $8 \hbar Ω$ for $^{11-14}\text{C}$, with a maximum M-scheme dimension of $1.3 \times 10^{9}$ for $^{10}\text{C}$. We found that while the INOY interaction gives the best description of the ground state energies, the N$^3$LO interaction best reproduces the point-proton radii.

We also show the behavior of ground state energy and point-proton radii with the NCSM parameters, $\hbar$$Ω$ and $N_{\rm max}$. We report a strong sensitivity of the B(E2) values from the first excited $2^+$ to the ground state of $^{18}$C and $^{20}$C to the nuclear interaction. Shell model calculations with YSOX interaction are also performed, and corresponding results are compared with ab initio one.

We have used inside nonlocal outside Yukawa (INOY), charge-dependent Bonn 2000 (CDB2K) and the chiral next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N$^3$LO) interactions. We are able to reach basis size up to $N_{max}$ = 6 for $^{18}$Ne and $N_{max}$ = 4 for the $^{19-24}$Ne isotopes with m-scheme dimensions up to 1.0 $\times$ $10^9$ in case of $^{24}$Ne. We observed better results for INOY interaction in terms of the binding energies of ground state (g.s.), and overall all three interactions provide good agreement with the experimental low-energy spectra. Our results for reduced $M1$ transition strengths and magnetic moments are close to the experimental values. We found that for long-range observables such as the $E2$ transition strengths, the electric quadrupole moments, and the point-proton radii ($r_p$), we need higher $N_{max}$ calculations to obtain results comparable to the experimental data. We have observed almost 6 \% increment in the converged $r_p$ as we increase the model space from $N_{max}$ = 4 to $N_{max}$ = 6.

Standard techniques of $γ$-ray spectroscopy have been applied towards establishing the level structure of the nucleus. Twenty new $γ$-ray transitions have been identified therein, through $γ-γ$ coincidence measurements, and spin-parity assignments of several states have been determined or confirmed, following the angular correlation and linear polarization measurements on the observed $γ$-rays. The excited states have been interpreted in the framework of large basis shell model calculations, while comparing their calculated and experimental energies. They have been principally ascribed to proton population in the $h_{9/2}$ and $i_{13/2}$ orbitals outside the $Z = 82$ closure and neutron occupation of the $f_{5/2}$, $p_{3/2}$ and $i_{13/2}$ orbitals in the $N = 126$ shell.

The role of pairing correlations for nucleon pairs with isospin $T=1$ and $T=0$ is investigated for nuclei in the mass region $12 \leq A \leq 42$. For that purpose the two-nucleon densities resulting from nuclear shell-model calculations in one and two major shells are analyzed. Significant effects on the resulting energies are observed due to the formation of $T=0$ pairs. The formation of quasi-deuterons is maximal for symmetric nuclei with $N=Z$. The formation of $T=0$ pairs is less sensitive to the density of single-particle states close to the Fermi energy than the $T=1$ pairing and is relevant also for excitations across shell-closures. This robustness also explains why $T=0$ pairing does not lead to such a clear evidence in comparing energies of neighbored nuclei as the "odd-even mass staggering" due to the formation of $T=1$ pairing.

In the present work, we have reported comprehensive study of the $sd$-shell nuclei Si and P with neutron number varying from $N = 9$ to $N = 20$ using the microscopic effective valence shell interactions, namely, N3LO, JISP16 and DJ16A. These effective $sd$-shell interactions are developed using the \textit{ab initio} no-core shell model wave functions and the Okubo-Lee-Suzuki transformation method. For comparison, we have also performed shell model calculations with the empirical USDB interaction. Energy spectra and electromagnetic properties of these isotopic chains have been studied. Theoretically calculated shell model results are compared with the available experimental data, to check the predictive strength of these microscopic interactions. It is found that the binding energies of the ground states are better reproduced with the DJ16A interaction as compared to other microscopic interactions and a proton subshell closure at $Z=14$ is obtained in Si. Spin-tensor decomposition of two-body interaction is presented to understand the contributions from central, vector and tensor components into these interactions. Spectroscopic strengths of $^{23}$Al($d$,$n$)$^{24}$Si are examined for the newly performed experiment at NSCL.

Levels above this long-lived isomer have been identified through a delayed-prompt coincidence measurement. Five-nucleon-hole states with excitation energies {\it E}$_{x}$ $\approx $ 7 MeV have been established as well as possible octupole excitations of the $^{208}$Pb core built on these levels. The level scheme of $^{203}$Tl is extended up to {\it E}$_{x}$ $\approx $ 11 MeV with the inclusion of 25 new transitions. Empirical and shell-model calculations have been performed to aid in the description of the observed states which are found to be predominantly of intrinsic character.

In this work, we have performed large-scale shell-model calculations for the first-forbidden $β^{-}$ decay of $^{207}$Hg into the one-proton-hole nucleus $^{207}$Tl corresponding to the recently available experimental data from ISOLDE-CERN [T. A. Berry et al., Phys. Rev. C 101, 054311 (2020)]. We have used the one-particle one-hole ($1p$-$1h$) truncation for both protons and neutrons simultaneously across the doubly-shell closure at $^{208}$Pb in the final states of $^{207}$Tl. In our calculations, we have also considered the effect of mesonic enhancement $ε_{\mathrm{mec}}=2.01\pm 0.05$ in the rank-0 for the axial-charge matrix element $γ_{5}$. Here, we have calculated the $\log ft$ values from the ground-state of $^{207}$Hg to the several excited states of $^{207}$Tl and obtained a good agreement between the calculated and the experimental data. In the experimental data spin and parity for some states are not yet confirmed, thus based on the shell-model results for the $\log ft$ values we have given the prediction for these states. This is the first theoretical calculation for the $\log ft$ values for these transitions.

Rev. C {\bf 100}, 054327 (2019); Phys. Rev. C {\bf 102}, 054314 (2020)]. We perform the nuclear shell-model calculation in $sdpf$-valence space, with the SDPF-MU interaction, to calculate low-lying energy spectra of $^{46,47}$K and $^{46,47}$Ca. For further investigation, we also calculate spectroscopic properties of $^{46,47}$K, $^{46,47}$Ca and compare the results with the experimental data. We suggest spin-parity of several levels, which were previously tentative, in both the calcium isotopes. Based on the energy and $\log ft$ values, we conclude that the state at 3.984 MeV in $^{46}$Ca could be either $3^{-}$ or $2^{+}$ and a state at 4.432 MeV might be $3^{-}$. The spin-parity of the states at 2.875, 3.951 and 4.453 MeV are predicted to be $1/2^-$, $3/2^-$ and $1/2^-$ or $1/2^+$, respectively, in $^{47}$Ca. We also give the confirmation to spin-parity of 2.850, 3.889 and 4.606 MeV states for $^{47}$Ca. Our results of level schemes of $^{46,47}$K are in a reasonable agreement with the experimental data, while the agreement of calculated $\log ft$ values for the $β^-$ decay with the experimental data is limited.

In this work, we present a theoretical study of the electron spectral shapes for the second-forbidden nonunique $β^-$-decay transitions $^{59}\textrm{Fe}(3/2^-)\to\,^{59}\textrm{Co}(7/2^-)$ and $^{60}\textrm{Fe}(0^+)\to\,^{60}\textrm{Co}(2^+)$ in the framework of the nuclear shell model. We have computed the involved wave functions by carrying out a complete $0\hbarω$ calculation in the full $fp$ model space using the KB3G and GXPF1A effective interactions. When compared with the available data, these interactions predict the low-energy spectra and electromagnetic properties of the involved nuclei quite successfully. This success paves the way for the computations of the $β$-decay properties, and comparison with the available data. We have computed the electron spectral shapes of the mentioned decay transitions as functions of the value of the weak axial coupling $g_{\rm A}$. By comparing these computed shapes with the measured spectral shapes allows then to extract the effective value of $g_{\rm A}$ for these decay transitions. This procedure, coined the spectrum-shape method (SSM) in several earlier studies, complements the method of determining the value of $g_{\rm A}$ by reproducing the (partial) half-lives of decay transitions. Here we have enhanced the original SSM by constraining the value of the relativistic vector matrix element, $^V\mathcal{M}^{(0)}_{KK-11}$, using the conserved vector-current hypothesis (CVC) as a starting point. We hope that this finding would be a strong incentive to measure the spectral shapes in the future.

We report a comprehensive study of $^{10-14}$B isotopes within the \textit{ab-initio} no-core shell model (NCSM) using realistic nucleon-nucleon (\textit{NN}) interactions. In particular, we have applied the inside non-local outside Yukawa (INOY) interaction to study energy spectra, electromagnetic properties and point-proton radii of the boron isotopes. The NCSM results with the charge-dependent Bonn 2000 (CDB2K), the chiral next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N$^3$LO) and optimized next-to-next-to-leading order (N$^2$LO$_{opt}$) interactions are also reported. We have reached basis sizes up to $N_{\mbox{max}}$ = 10 for $^{10}$B, $N_{\mbox{max}}$ = 8 for $^{11,12,13}$B and $N_{\mbox{max}}$ = 6 for $^{14}$B with m-scheme dimensions up to 1.7 billion. We also compare the NCSM calculations with the phenomenological YSOX interaction using the shell model to test the predictive power of the \textit{ab-initio} nuclear theory. Overall, our NCSM results are consistent with the available experimental data. The experimental ground state spin $3^{+}$ of $^{10}$B has been reproduced using the INOY \textit{NN} interaction. Typically, the 3\textit{N} interaction is required to correctly reproduce the aforementioned state.

We have performed the shell model calculations in the $sd$ model space, using more recent microscopic effective interactions such as Daejeon16, chiral N3LO, and JISP16. These interactions are derived from the no-core shell model wave functions using Okubo-Lee-Suzuki transformation. For comparison, we have also shown the results obtain from the phenomenological USDB interaction. To test the predictive power of these interactions first we have computed low-lying energy spectra of parent and daughter nuclei involved in these transitions. The computed results for energy spectra, nuclear matrix elements, log$ft$ values, shape factors, electron spectra and decomposition of the integrated shape factor are reported and compare with the available experimental data.

Analyzing the first non trivial situation with four $SU(3)$ algebras in $(sdg)$ space, demonstrated recently is that they generate quite different quadrupole properties though they all generate the same spectrum. More complex situation is with eight $SU(3)$ algebras in $(sdgi)$ space. In the present work, quadrupole properties generated by these eight algebras are analyzed first using the more analytically tractable interacting boson model. In addition, shell model and the closely related deformed shell model are used with three examples of nucleons in $sdgi$ space. It is found that in general six of the $SU(3)$ algebras generate prolate shape and two oblate shape. Out of all these, one of the $SU(3)$ algebra generates quite small quadrupole moments for the low-lying states.

The gallium anomaly, i.e. the missing electron-neutrino flux from $^{37}$Ar and $^{51}$Cr electron-capture decays as measured by the GALLEX and SAGE solar-neutrino detectors, has been among us already for about two decades. We present here a new estimate of the significance of this anomaly based on cross-section calculations using nuclear shell-model wave functions obtained by exploiting recently developed two-nucleon interactions. The gallium anomaly of the GALLEX and SAGE experiments is found to be smaller than that obtained in previous evaluations, decreasing the significance from 3.0$σ$ to 2.3$σ$. This result is compatible with the recent indication in favor of short-baseline $\barν_{e}$ disappearance due to small active-sterile neutrino mixing obtained from the combined analysis of the data of the NEOS and DANSS reactor experiments.

A significant fraction of stars between 7-11 solar masses are thought to become supernovae, but the explosion mechanism is unclear. The answer depends critically on the rate of electron capture on $^{20}$Ne in the degenerate oxygen-neon stellar core. However, due to the unknown strength of the transition between the ground states of $^{20}$Ne and $^{20}$F, it has not previously been possible to fully constrain the rate. By measuring the transition, we have established that its strength is exceptionally large and enhances the capture rate by several orders of magnitude. This has a decisive impact on the evolution of the core, increasing the likelihood that the star is (partially) disrupted by a thermonuclear explosion rather than collapsing to form a neutron star. Importantly, our measurement resolves the last remaining nuclear physics uncertainty in the final evolution of degenerate oxygen-neon stellar cores, allowing future studies to address the critical role of convection, which at present is poorly understood.

Rotational $SU(3)$ algebraic symmetry continues to generate new results in the shell model (SM). Interestingly, it is possible to have multiple $SU(3)$ algebras for nucleons occupying an oscillator shell $η$. Several different aspects of the multiple $SU(3)$ algebras are investigated using shell model and also deformed shell model based on Hartree-Fock single particle states with nucleons in $sdg$ orbits giving four $SU(3)$ algebras. Results show that one of the $SU(3)$ algebra generates prolate shapes, one oblate shape and the other two also generate prolate shape but one of them gives quiet small quadrupole moments for low-lying levels. These are inferred by using the standard form for the electric quadrupole transition operator and using quadrupole moments and $B(E2)$ values in the ground $K=0^+$ band in three different examples. Multiple $SU(3)$ algebras extend to interacting boson model and using $sdg$IBM, the structure of the four $SU(3)$ algebras in this model are studied by coherent state analysis and asymptotic formulas for $E2$ matrix elements. The results from $sdg$IBM further support the conclusions from the $sdg$ shell model examples.
