Humor is a fundamental facet of human cognition and interaction. Yet, despite recent advances in natural language processing, humor detection remains a challenging task that is complicated by the scarcity of datasets that pair humorous texts with similar non-humorous counterparts. In our work, we investigate whether large language models (LLMs), can generate synthetic data for humor detection via editing texts. We benchmark LLMs on an existing human dataset and show that current LLMs display an impressive ability to 'unfun' jokes, as judged by humans and as measured on the downstream task of humor detection. We extend our approach to a code-mixed English-Hindi humor dataset, where we find that GPT-4's synthetic data is highly rated by bilingual annotators and provides challenging adversarial examples for humor classifiers.

End-to-end conversational recommendation systems (CRS) generate responses by leveraging both dialog history and a knowledge base (KB). A CRS mainly faces three key challenges: (1) at each turn, it must decide if recommending a KB entity is appropriate; if so, it must identify the most relevant KB entity to recommend; and finally, it must recommend the entity in a fluent utterance that is consistent with the conversation history. Recent CRSs do not pay sufficient attention to these desiderata, often generating unfluent responses or not recommending (relevant) entities at the right turn. We introduce a new CRS we call CoRE-CoG. CoRE-CoG addresses the limitations in prior systems by implementing (1) a recommendation trigger that decides if the system utterance should include an entity, (2) a type pruning module that improves the relevance of recommended entities, and (3) a novel constrained response generator to make recommendations while maintaining fluency. Together, these modules ensure simultaneous accurate recommendation decisions and fluent system utterances. Experiments with recent benchmarks show the superiority particularly on conditional generation sub-tasks with close to 10 F1 and 4 Recall@1 percent points gain over baselines.

The Ruscheweyh derivative operator is used in this paper to introduce and investigate interesting general subclasses of the function class $Σ_{\mathrm{m}}$ of $m$-fold symmetric bi-univalent analytic functions. Estimates of the initial Taylor-Maclaurin coefficients $\left|a_{m+1}\right|$ and $\left|a_{2 m+1}\right|$ are obtained for functions of the subclasses introduced in this study, and the consequences of the results are discussed. The results presented would generalize and improve on some recent works by many earlier authors. In some cases, our estimates are better than the existing coefficient bounds. Furthermore, within the engineering domain, this paper delves into a series of complex issues related to analytic functions, $m$-fold symmetric univalent functions, and the utilization of the Ruscheweyh derivative operator. These problems encompass a broad spectrum of engineering applications, including the optimization of optical system designs, signal processing for antenna arrays, image compression techniques, and filter design for control systems. The paper underscores the crucial role of these mathematical concepts in addressing practical engineering dilemmas and fine-tuning the performance of various engineering systems. It emphasizes the potential for innovative solutions that can significantly enhance the reliability and effectiveness of engineering applications.

The differential transform method is used to find numerical approximation of solution to a class of certain nonlinear differential algebraic equations. The method is based on Taylor's theorem. Coefficients of the Taylor series are determined by constructing a recurrence relation. To deal with nonlinearity of the problems, the Faà di Bruno's formula containing the partial ordinary Bell polynomials is applied within the differential transform to avoid computation of symbolic derivatives. The error estimation results are presented too. Four concrete problems are studied to show efficiency and reliability of the method. The obtained results are compared to other methods.

The layered transition metal dichalcogenide compounds 1T-TaS2 and 4H-TaS2 are well known for their exotic properties, which include charge density wave, superconductivity, Mott transition, etc., and lately quantum spin liquid. Here, we report the magnetic, transport and transmission electron microscopy study of the charge density wave and superconductivity in 6R-TaS2 which is a relatively less studied polymorph of this dichalcogenide TaS2. Our high temperature electron microscopy reveals multiple charge density wave transitions between room temperature and 650K. Magnetization, and the electrical resistivity measurements in the temperature range of 2-400 K reveal that 6R-TaS2 undergoes a charge density wave transition around 305 K and is followed by a transition to a superconducting state around 3.5 K. The low temperature specific heat measurement exhibits anomaly associated with the superconducting transition around 2.4 K. The estimated Ginzburg Landau parameter suggests that this compound lies at the extreme limit of type-II superconductivity.

Here, we study the real space nanoscale structure in Pb-free BaZr$_{x}$Ti$_{1-x}$O$_{3}$ (x $\leq$ 0.10) by pair distribution function measurements, complemented by transmission electron microscopy and x-ray diffraction. Our observations show existence of the rhombohedrally distorted unit cells; however, at intermediate length scales, at least up to 5 nm, there exist nano-scale correlated regions of monoclinic symmetry. This is complemented by the observation of curved frustrated nanodomains. Further, the average structure is found to have coexisting monoclinic and rhombohedral symmetries. Our observation of a two-phase ferroelectric state is in contrast to interferroelectric instabilities of conventional polymorphic phase boundaries reported for doped BaTiO$_{3}$.

Expression of emotions is a crucial part of daily human communication. Emotion recognition in conversations (ERC) is an emerging field of study, where the primary task is to identify the emotion behind each utterance in a conversation. Though a lot of work has been done on ERC in the past, these works only focus on ERC in the English language, thereby ignoring any other languages. In this paper, we present Multilingual MELD (M-MELD), where we extend the Multimodal EmotionLines Dataset (MELD) \cite{poria2018meld} to 4 other languages beyond English, namely Greek, Polish, French, and Spanish. Beyond just establishing strong baselines for all of these 4 languages, we also propose a novel architecture, DiscLSTM, that uses both sequential and conversational discourse context in a conversational dialogue for ERC. Our proposed approach is computationally efficient, can transfer across languages using just a cross-lingual encoder, and achieves better performance than most uni-modal text approaches in the literature on both MELD and M-MELD. We make our data and code publicly on GitHub.

In recent years , there has been an upsurge in a new form of entertainment medium called memes. These memes although seemingly innocuous have transcended onto the boundary of online harassment against women and created an unwanted bias against them . To help alleviate this problem , we propose an early fusion model for prediction and identification of misogynistic memes and its type in this paper for which we participated in SemEval-2022 Task 5 . The model receives as input meme image with its text transcription with a target vector. Given that a key challenge with this task is the combination of different modalities to predict misogyny, our model relies on pretrained contextual representations from different state-of-the-art transformer-based language models and pretrained image pretrained models to get an effective image representation. Our model achieved competitive results on both SubTask-A and SubTask-B with the other competition teams and significantly outperforms the baselines.

Different languages account for different brain triggers , however there seems to be some uniform indicators. In this paper, we describe our submission to the CMCL 2022 shared task on predicting human reading patterns for multi-lingual dataset. Our model uses text representations from transformers and some hand engineered features with a regression layer on top to predict statistical measures of mean and standard deviation for 2 main eye-tracking features. We train an end to end model to extract meaningful information from different languages and test our model on two seperate datasets. We compare different transformer models and show ablation studies affecting model performance. Our final submission ranked 4th place for SubTask-1 and 1st place for SubTask-2 for the shared task.

We also point out relevant connections of the various $q$-results, which we investigate here, with those in several related earlier works on this subject. We conclude this paper by remarking that it will be a rather trivial and inconsequential exercise to give the so-called $(p,q)$-variations of the $q$-results, which we have investigated here, because the additional parameter $p$ is obviously redundant.

Logic locking is a prominent technique to protect the integrity of hardware designs throughout the integrated circuit design and fabrication flow. However, in recent years, the security of locking schemes has been thoroughly challenged by the introduction of various deobfuscation attacks. As in most research branches, deep learning is being introduced in the domain of logic locking as well. Therefore, in this paper we present SnapShot: a novel attack on logic locking that is the first of its kind to utilize artificial neural networks to directly predict a key bit value from a locked synthesized gate-level netlist without using a golden reference. Hereby, the attack uses a simpler yet more flexible learning model compared to existing work. Two different approaches are evaluated. The first approach is based on a simple feedforward fully connected neural network. The second approach utilizes genetic algorithms to evolve more complex convolutional neural network architectures specialized for the given task. The attack flow offers a generic and customizable framework for attacking locking schemes using machine learning techniques. We perform an extensive evaluation of SnapShot for two realistic attack scenarios, comprising both reference benchmark circuits as well as silicon-proven RISC-V core modules. The evaluation results show that SnapShot achieves an average key prediction accuracy of 82.60% for the selected attack scenario, with a significant performance increase of 10.49 percentage points compared to the state of the art. Moreover, SnapShot outperforms the existing technique on all evaluated benchmarks. The results indicate that the security foundation of common logic locking schemes is build on questionable assumptions. The conclusions of the evaluation offer insights into the challenges of designing future logic locking schemes that are resilient to machine learning attacks.

A hot-spot of high local field can be created in between two closely placed metal nanoparticles by irradiating them with an appropriate wavelength and polarization of incident light. The strength of the field at the hot-spot is expected to get enhanced by even up to six orders of magnitude than that of the applied field. Placing a semiconductor quantum dot or an analyte molecule at the hot-spot is an essential step towards harnessing the enhanced field for applications. In this article, we show that it is possible to position a CdTe quantum dot (QD) between two larger silver nanospheres in colloidal solution. The extinction spectra measured during growth suggests that the final hybrid nanostructure have two touching Ag nanoparticles (NPs) and a CdTe QD in between them close to the point of contact. Using ultrafast transient measurements, it has been shown that the presence of CdTe QD strongly influence the dynamics when the probe excites the hot-spot. The method demonstrated here to place the semiconductor QD in between the two Ag NPs is an important step in the area of colloidal self-assembly and for application of hot-spot in plasmonic sensing, optoelectronics, energy-harvesting, nanolithography, and optical nano-antennas.

Potentials play an important role in solving boundary value problems for elliptic equations. In the middle of the last century, a potential theory was constructed for a two-dimensional elliptic equation with one singular coefficient. In the study of potentials, the properties of the fundamental solutions of the given equation are essentially used. At the present time, fundamental solutions of a multidimensional elliptic equation with one degeneration line are already known. In this paper, we investigate the potentials of the double- and simple-layers for this equation, with the help of which limit theorems are proved and integral equations containing in the kernel the density of the above potentials are derived.

Abstract:
In this paper, we introduce and investigate a novel class of analytic and univalent functions of negative coefficients in the open unit disk. For this function class, we obtain characterization and distortion theorems as well as the radii of close-to-convexity, starlikeness and convexity by using fractional calculus techniques.

A fundamental problem in neuroscience is to understand how sequences of action potentials ("spikes") encode information about sensory signals and motor outputs. Although traditional theories of neural coding assume that information is conveyed by the total number of spikes fired (spike rate), recent studies of sensory and motor activity have shown that far more information is carried by the millisecond-scale timing patterns of action potentials (spike timing). However, it is unknown whether or how subtle differences in spike timing drive differences in perception or behavior, leaving it unclear whether the information carried by spike timing actually plays a causal role in brain function. Here we demonstrate how a precise spike timing code is read out downstream by the muscles to control behavior. We provide both correlative and causal evidence to show that the nervous system uses millisecond-scale variations in the timing of spikes within multi-spike patterns to regulate a relatively simple behavior - respiration in the Bengalese finch, a songbird. These findings suggest that a fundamental assumption of current theories of motor coding requires revision, and that significant improvements in applications, such as neural prosthetic devices, can be achieved by using precise spike timing information.

Abstract:
We report a giant magnetocaloric effect near room temperature in an off-stoichiometric Mn-Co-Ge alloy, across the magnetostructural transition. The isothermal entropy change accompanying this transition has a peak value of nearly 40 J/kg-K near 297 K and a refrigerant capacity of 270 J/kg with the hot end at 302.5 K and cold end at 293.5 K. We also present an experimental protocol to avoid spurious peaks in the magnetocaloric effect across a sharp first order magnetostructural transition, not confined to Mn-Co-Ge alone, where metastability during the transition could influence the measured magnetization and thus the estimated entropy change. The estimated entropy change in the present off-stoichiometric Mn-Co-Ge alloy is possibly the highest reported value near room temperature in undoped Mn-Co-Ge alloys and underlines the potential of the alloy for technological applications in room temperature magnetic refrigeration.

In this article we propose a new fractional derivative without singular kernel. We consider the potential application for modeling the steady heat-conduction problem. The analytical solution of the fractional-order heat flow is also obtained by means of the Laplace transform.

Abstract:
The main object of this paper is to obtain several symmetric properties of the q-Zeta type functions. As applications of these properties, we give some new interesting identities for the modified q-Genocchi polynomials. Finally, our applications are shown to lead to a number of interesting results which we state in the present paper.

Various methods to obtain the analytic continuation near $z=1$ of the hypergeometric series $_{p+1}F_p(z)$ are reviewed together with some of the results. One approach is to establish a recurrence relation with respect to $p$ and then, after its repeated use, to resort to the well-known properties of the Gaussian hypergeometric series. Another approach is based on the properties of the underlying generalized hypergeometric differential equation: For the coefficients in the power series expansion around $z=1$ a general formula, valid for any $p$, is found in terms of a limit of a terminating Saalschützian hypergeometric series of unit argument. Final results may then be obtained for each particular $p$ after application of an appropriate transformation formula of the Saalschützian hypergeometric series. The behaviour at unit argument of zero-balanced hypergeometric series, which have received particular attention in recent years, is discussed in more detail. The related problem involving the behaviour of partial sums of such series is addressed briefly.
