Radiative effects in semi-inclusive hadron leptoproduction of unpolarized particles are calculated within the leading order approximation. The contributions of the infrared-free sum of the effects of real and virtual photon emission as well as the contribution of exclusive radiative tail are considered. It is demonstrated how the obtained formulae in the leading log approximation can be obtained using the standard approach of the leading log approximation as well as from the exact expressions for the radiative correction of the lowest order. The method of the electron structure function is used to calculate the higher order corrections. The results are analytically compared to the results obtained by other groups. Numeric illustrations are given in the kinematics of the modern experiments at Jefferson Laboratory.

The lowest order radiative corrections to the cross section and asymmetries measured in experiments on semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering of polarized particles were calculated. Both exact and leading log expressions were presented and discussed for the total correction that include the contributions from the processes of (i) real photon emission with semi-inclusive processes, (ii) loop diagrams, and (iii) real photon emission with exclusive processes. Radiative corrections to the Sivers and Collins asymmetries in $π^+$ electroproduction were studied numerically within the kinematical conditions of modern experimental environments at Jefferson Laboratory (JLab). The Wandzura-Wilczek approximation for the semi-inclusive structure functions and MAID2007 parameterization for the six amplitudes of exclusive processes were used in numeric analyses. The results show that (i) radiative effects can generate a correction comparable to the size of Sivers and Collins asymmetries at the Born level, (ii) there is good agreement between the exact and leading-order corrections, (iii) external functions (that is, other than the Sivers and Collins functions in the respective asymmetries) can generate a contribution to the radiative correction up to 20\%, and (iv) there exists a strong dependence of the radiative correction on the models for semi-inclusive and exclusive structure functions.

We employ this result for establishing an asymptotic expansion for the loop integrals near their singularity locus, then give explicit formulas for the coefficients of such an expansion. Analogous to the well-known proton charge radius puzzle, a similar puzzle exists for the deuteron charge radius, $r_{d}$. There are discrepancies observed in the results of $r_{d}$, measured from electron-deuteron ($e-d$) scattering experiments, as well as from atomic spectroscopy. In order to help resolve the charge radius puzzle of the deuteron, the PRad collaboration at Jefferson Lab has proposed an experiment for measuring $r_{d}$, named DRad. This experiment is designed to measure the unpolarized elastic $e-d$ scattering cross section in a low-$Q^{2}$ region. To extract the cross section with a high precision, having reliable knowledge of QED radiative corrections is important. In this paper, we present complete numerical calculations of the lowest-order radiative corrections in $e-d$ scattering for the DRad kinematics. The calculations have been performed within a covariant formalism and beyond the ultra-relativistic approximation ($m_{e}^{2} \ll Q^{2}$). Besides, we present a systematic uncertainty on $r_{d}$ arising from higher-order radiative corrections, estimated based on our cross-section results.

This White Paper presents the community inputs and scientific conclusions from the Hot and Cold QCD Town Meeting that took place September 23-25, 2022 at MIT, as part of the Nuclear Science Advisory Committee (NSAC) 2023 Long Range Planning process. A total of 424 physicists registered for the meeting. The meeting highlighted progress in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) nuclear physics since the 2015 LRP (LRP15) and identified key questions and plausible paths to obtaining answers to those questions, defining priorities for our research over the coming decade. In defining the priority of outstanding physics opportunities for the future, both prospects for the short (~ 5 years) and longer term (5-10 years and beyond) are identified together with the facilities, personnel and other resources needed to maximize the discovery potential and maintain United States leadership in QCD physics worldwide. This White Paper is organized as follows: In the Executive Summary, we detail the Recommendations and Initiatives that were presented and discussed at the Town Meeting, and their supporting rationales. Section 2 highlights major progress and accomplishments of the past seven years. It is followed, in Section 3, by an overview of the physics opportunities for the immediate future, and in relation with the next QCD frontier: the EIC. Section 4 provides an overview of the physics motivations and goals associated with the EIC. Section 5 is devoted to the workforce development and support of diversity, equity and inclusion. This is followed by a dedicated section on computing in Section 6. Section 7 describes the national need for nuclear data science and the relevance to QCD research.

Abstract:
We characterize the singularity set of massless theories by giving a complete set of the Landau polynomials. We find the general form of Gauss-Manin connection. We show that for massless theories the dependence on momenta decouples from the dependence on coupling and dimension. The latter is completely absorbed into a set of matrices that have no dependence on kinematic variables.

SIDIS-RC EvGen is a C++ standalone Monte-Carlo event generator for studies of semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) processes at medium to high lepton beam energies. In particular, the generator contains binary and library components for generating SIDS events and calculating cross sections for unpolarized or longitudinally polarized beam and unpolarized, longitudinally or transversely polarized target. The structure of the generator incorporates transverse momentum-dependent parton distribution and fragmentation functions, whereby we obtain multi-dimensional binned simulation results, which will facilitate the extraction of important information about the three-dimensional nucleon structure from SIDIS measurements. In order to build this software, we have used recent elaborate QED calculations of the lowest-order radiative effects, applied to the leading order Born cross section in SIDIS. In this paper, we provide details on the theoretical formalism as well as the construction and operation of SIDIS-RC EvGen, e.g., how we handle the event generation process and perform multi-dimensional integration. We also provide example programs, flowcharts, and numerical results on azimuthal transverse single-spin asymmetries.

We observe that the solutions to this equation must possess a number of properties. Its Taylor coefficients are multivalued functions with rational and logarithmic branchings and essential singularities of exponential type. These singularities occur along a locus defined by polynomial equations. The conditions we find define a class of functions that generalizes to multiple dimensions meromorphic functions with finite Nevanlinna type. We note that in perturbation theory these functions have local asymptotics that is given by multidimensional confluent hypergeometric functions in the sense of Gelfand-Kapranov-Zelevinsky.

We define an embedding of the space of complex momenta and masses in perturbation theory into a universal projective space. This embedding is natural in the sense of properties of the vector bundle defined by Feynman integrals on the complement to Landau varieties. We point out that there is a holonomic D-module associated with individual Feynman integrals. We quote explicit generators for this D-module on the fully deformed space of particle momenta. This basis is quadratic in the derivatives. We conclude that there is holonomic D-module on the physical space of momenta.

We show that off-shell perturbative amplitudes with arbitrary number of external lines and complex masses can be reduced to $I$-fold integrals of the generalized Schläfli functions, where $I$ is the number of lines in the corresponding vacuum diagram which is independent of the number of external lines. The Schläfli functions are obtained as analytic continuation of the volume of the spherical simplex as a function of the hyperplane parameters that define the simplex. These functions have nice and thoroughly studied analytic, geometric and number theoretic properties. They possess Gauss-Manin connection and in conformal case are expressed by iterated integrals. Our representation sheds new light on geometry of particle configuration spaces in perturbation theory.

We identify a natural analytic continuation in four dimensions from Minkowski signature to a signature with two time-like momentum components. For two, three and four-point diagrams at fixed external momenta, this continuation can be implemented as a countour deformation that leaves dependence on the momenta unchanged. For arbitrary ultraviolet-finite scalar diagrams it is possible to do two integrals per loop in terms of simple poles in the new signature. This results in a representation of any such diagram as a sum of terms, each with two remaining integrals per loop.

A new method is presented for the simplification of loop integrals in one particle irreducible diagrams with large numbers of external lines, based on the partial fractioning of products of propagators. Whenever a loop diagram in $d$ dimensions has $d+1$ or more lines that carry the same linear combination of loop momenta, its integral can be reexpressed as a linear combination of integrals with no more than $d+1$ denominators for each such set of lines, of which $d$ are linear in the loop momenta and only one quadratic. In multiloop diagrams, the total number of linear denominators can be reduced further. In integrals with numerator momenta there may also be up to $d+1$ linear factors in the numerator.

We investigate the viability of this scenario by performing a non-perturbative numerical computation of double inclusive gluon production in the Glasma.
