The residual uncertainties are in the percent range or below, depending on the particular MSSM scenario.

After the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012 at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the study of its properties still leaves room for an extended Higgs sector with more than one Higgs boson. 2-Higgs Doublet Models (2HDMs) are well-motivated extensions of the Standard Model (SM) with five physical Higgs bosons: two CP-even states $h$ and $H$, one CP-odd state $A$, and two charged states $H^\pm_{}$. In this letter, we present the calculation of the full next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections to $hH$ and $AA$ production at the LHC in the 2HDM at small values of the ratio of the vacuum expectation values, $\tanβ$, including the exact top-mass dependence everywhere in the calculation. Using techniques applied in the NLO QCD SM Higgs pair production calculation, we present results for the total cross section as well as for the invariant Higgs-pair-mass distribution at the LHC. We also provide the top-quark scale and scheme uncertainties which are found to be sizeable.

One of the most important mechanisms at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) for the production of the pseudoscalar Higgs boson of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) is the loop-induced gluon fusion process $gg\to A$. The higher-order QCD corrections have been obtained a long time ago and turned out to be large. However, the genuine supersymmetric (SUSY--)QCD corrections have been obtained only in the limit of large SUSY particle masses so far. We describe our calculation of the next-to-leading-order (NLO) SUSY--QCD results with full mass dependence and present numerical results for a few representative benchmark points. We also address the treatment of the effective top and bottom Yukawa couplings, in the case of heavy SUSY particles, in terms of effective low-energy theories where the heavy degrees of freedom have been decoupled. Furthermore, we include a discussion of the relation between the SUSY--QCD corrections that we have computed and the Adler--Bardeen theorem for the axial anomaly. In addition, we apply our results to the gluonic and photonic pseudoscalar Higgs decays $A\to gg,γγ$ at NLO.

The study of the Higgs boson properties offers compelling perspectives for testing the effects of physics beyond the Standard Model and has deep implications for the LHC program and future colliders. Accurate determinations of the Higgs boson properties can provide us with a distinctively precise picture of the Higgs sector, set tight bounds, and predict ranges for the values of new physics model parameters. In this paper, we discuss the constraints on supersymmetry that can be derived by a determination of the Higgs boson mass and couplings. We quantify these constraints by using scans of the 19-parameter space of the so-called phenomenological minimal supersymmetric Standard Model. The fraction of scan points that can be excluded by the Higgs measurements is studied for the coupling measurement accuracies obtained in LHC Run 2 and expected for the HL-LHC program and $e^+e^-$ colliders and contrasted with those derived from missing transverse energy searches at the LHC and from dark matter experiments.

We present a calculation of the next-to-leading order QCD corrections to weakino+squark production processes at hadron colliders and their implementation in the framework of the POWHEG-BOX, a tool for the matching of fixed-order perturbative calculations with parton-shower programs. Particular care is taken in the subtraction of on-shell resonances in the real-emission corrections that have to be assigned to production processes of a different type. In order to illustrate the capabilities of our code, representative results are shown for selected SUSY parameter points in the pMSSM11. The perturbative stability of the calculation is assessed for the $ pp \rightarrow \tildeχ^0_1 \tilde{d}_L $ process. For the squark+chargino production process $ pp \rightarrow \tildeχ_1^- \tilde{u}_L $ distributions of the chargino's decay products are provided with the help of the decay feature of PYTHIA 8.

The study of Higgs boson production at large transverse momentum is one of the new frontiers for the LHC Higgs physics programme. This paper considers boosted Higgs production in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT). We focus on the gluon fusion and $t{\bar t}H$ production processes and study the effects of three dimension-6 operators: the top Yukawa operator, the gluon-Higgs effective coupling and the chromomagnetic dipole operator of the top quark. We perform a detailed study of the sensitivity of current and future LHC data to the corresponding Wilson coefficients, consistently accounting for their renormalisation group evolution. We compare the sensitivities obtained with only linear and linear + quadratic terms in the SMEFT by using the spectrum shape and the addition of the Higgs signal yields. We also consider fits of $p_T$ spectra in models with heavy-top partners and in MSSM scenarios with a light scalar top and study the validity of the SMEFT assumptions as a function of the new-particle masses and the Higgs $p_T$ range. Finally, we extract constraints on the Wilson coefficients for gluon fusion from a simultaneous fit to the ATLAS and CMS data and compare our results with those obtained in global SMEFT analyses.

Higgs-pair production via gluon fusion is the dominant production mechanism of Higgs-boson pairs at hadron colliders. In this work, we present details of our numerical determination of the full next-to-leading-order (NLO) QCD corrections to the leading top-quark loops. Since gluon fusion is a loop-induced process at leading order, the NLO calculation requires the calculation of massive two-loop diagrams with up to four different mass/energy scales involved. With the current methods, this can only be done numerically, if no approximations are used. We discuss the setup and details of our numerical integration. This will be followed by a phenomenological analysis of the NLO corrections and their impact on the total cross section and the invariant Higgs-pair mass distribution. The last part of our work will be devoted to the determination of the residual theoretical uncertainties with special emphasis on the uncertainties originating from the scheme and scale dependence of the (virtual) top mass. The impact of the trilinear Higgs-coupling variation on the total cross section will be discussed.

This document summarises the current theoretical and experimental status of the di-Higgs boson production searches, and of the direct and indirect constraints on the Higgs boson self-coupling, with the wish to serve as a useful guide for the next years. The document discusses the theoretical status, including state-of-the-art predictions for di-Higgs cross sections, developments on the effective field theory approach, and studies on specific new physics scenarios that can show up in the di-Higgs final state. The status of di-Higgs searches and the direct and indirect constraints on the Higgs self-coupling at the LHC are presented, with an overview of the relevant experimental techniques, and covering all the variety of relevant signatures. Finally, the capabilities of future colliders in determining the Higgs self-coupling are addressed, comparing the projected precision that can be obtained in such facilities. The work has started as the proceedings of the Di-Higgs workshop at Colliders, held at Fermilab from the 4th to the 9th of September 2018, but it went beyond the topics discussed at that workshop and included further developments.

The Future Circular Collider (FCC) at CERN, a proposed 100-km circular facility with several colliders in succession, culminates with a 100 TeV proton-proton collider. It offers a vast new domain of exploration in particle physics, with orders of magnitude advances in terms of Precision, Sensitivity and Energy. The implementation plan foresees, as a first step, an Electroweak Factory electron-positron collider. This high luminosity facility, operating between 90 and 365 GeV centre-of-mass energy, will study the heavy particles of the Standard Model, Z, W, Higgs, and top with unprecedented accuracy. The Electroweak Factory $e^+e^-$ collider constitutes a real challenge to the theory and to precision calculations, triggering the need for the development of new mathematical methods and software tools. A first workshop in 2018 had focused on the first FCC-ee stage, the Tera-Z, and confronted the theoretical status of precision Standard Model calculations on the Z-boson resonance to the experimental demands. The second workshop in January 2019, which is reported here, extended the scope to the next stages, with the production of W-bosons (FCC-ee-W), the Higgs boson (FCC-ee-H) and top quarks (FCC-ee-tt). In particular, the theoretical precision in the determination of the crucial input parameters, alpha_QED, alpha_QCD, M_W, m_t at the level of FCC-ee requirements is thoroughly discussed. The requirements on Standard Model theory calculations were spelled out, so as to meet the demanding accuracy of the FCC-ee experimental potential. The discussion of innovative methods and tools for multi-loop calculations was deepened. Furthermore, phenomenological analyses beyond the Standard Model were discussed, in particular the effective theory approaches. The reports of 2018 and 2019 serve as white papers of the workshop results and subsequent developments.

The discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012, by the ATLAS and CMS experiments, was a success achieved with only a percent of the entire dataset foreseen for the LHC. It opened a landscape of possibilities in the study of Higgs boson properties, Electroweak Symmetry breaking and the Standard Model in general, as well as new avenues in probing new physics beyond the Standard Model. Six years after the discovery, with a conspicuously larger dataset collected during LHC Run 2 at a 13 TeV centre-of-mass energy, the theory and experimental particle physics communities have started a meticulous exploration of the potential for precision measurements of its properties. This includes studies of Higgs boson production and decays processes, the search for rare decays and production modes, high energy observables, and searches for an extended electroweak symmetry breaking sector. This report summarises the potential reach and opportunities in Higgs physics during the High Luminosity phase of the LHC, with an expected dataset of pp collisions at 14 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 ab$^{-1}$. These studies are performed in light of the most recent analyses from LHC collaborations and the latest theoretical developments. The potential of an LHC upgrade, colliding protons at a centre-of-mass energy of 27 TeV and producing a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 15 ab$^{-1}$, is also discussed.

This is the first independent cross-check of the NLO QCD corrections presented in the literature before. Our calculation relies on numerical integrations of Feynman integrals, stabilised with integration-by-parts and a Richardson extrapolation to the narrow width approximation. We present results for the total cross section as well as for the invariant Higgs-pair-mass distribution at the LHC, including for the first time a study of the uncertainty due to the scheme and scale choice for the top mass in the loops.

We compare the decay of the heavy Higgs boson into two SM-like Higgs bosons, $H\to hh$, calculated in a Feynman-diagrammatic approach at the one-loop level based on the one hand on the full effective potential involving the top quark and stops in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) accompanied by the matched Two-Higgs-Doublet Model (2HDM) as its low-energy limit and on the other hand on the hMSSM approximation. We identify missing contributions due to the top quark in the Higgs self-couplings of the hMSSM, that - when taken into account - lead to a good agreement between the hMSSM and a full MSSM calculation, at least in the limit of the Higgsino mass parameter $μ$ being small compared to the stop spectrum. We also thoroughly analyze momentum-dependent and kinetic corrections intrinsic to the Feynman-diagrammatic approach and the matching to the effective Lagrangian, respectively, for both our calculation in the MSSM and the hMSSM and for the latter suggest to include additional corrections from the top quark, which are independent of the unknown supersymmetric spectrum.

We present the program package 2HDECAY for the calculation of the partial decay widths and branching ratios of the Higgs bosons of a general CP-conserving 2-Higgs doublet model (2HDM). The tool includes the full electroweak one-loop corrections to all two-body on-shell Higgs decays in the 2HDM that are not loop-induced. It combines them with the state-of-the-art QCD corrections that are already implemented in the program HDECAY. For the renormalization of the electroweak sector an on-shell scheme is implemented for most of the renormalization parameters. Exceptions are the soft-$\mathbb{Z}_2$-breaking squared mass scale $m_{12}^2$, where an $\overline{\text{MS}}$ condition is applied, as well as the 2HDM mixing angles $α$ and $β$, for which several distinct renormalization schemes are implemented. The tool 2HDECAY can be used for phenomenological analyses of the branching ratios of Higgs decays in the 2HDM. Furthermore, the separate output of the electroweak contributions to the tree-level partial decay widths for several different renormalization schemes allows for an efficient analysis of the impact of the electroweak corrections and the remaining theoretical error due to missing higher-order corrections. The latest version of the program package 2HDECAY can be downloaded from the URL https://github.com/marcel-krause/2HDECAY .

We present the analytic expressions of the relevant one-loop QCD amplitudes including the effects of the complete set of dimension-six operators. The latter correspond to modifications of the top and bottom Yukawa couplings, to an effective point-like Higgs coupling to gluons and to the chromomagnetic operator of the top quark. The quantitative impact of the chromomagnetic operator is also studied. Our results confirm previous findings that the effect of the chromomagnetic operator at high $p_T$ can be large and should not be neglected.

Higgs pair production through gluon fusion is an important process at the LHC to test the dynamics underlying electroweak symmetry breaking. Higgs sectors beyond the Standard Model (SM) can substantially modify this cross section through novel couplings not present in the SM or the on-shell production of new heavy Higgs bosons that subsequently decay into Higgs pairs. CP violation in the Higgs sector is important for the explanation of the observed matter-antimatter asymmetry through electroweak baryogenesis. In this work we compute the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections in the heavy top quark limit, including the effects of CP violation in the Higgs sector. We choose the effective theory (EFT) approach, which provides a rather model-independent way to explore New Physics (NP) effects by adding dimension-6 operators, both CP-conserving and CP-violating ones, to the SM Lagrangian. Furthermore, we perform the computation within a specific UV-complete model and choose as benchmark model the general 2-Higgs-Doublet Model with CP violation, the C2HDM. Depending on the dimension-6 coefficients, the relative NLO QCD corrections are affected by several per cent through the new CP-violating operators. This is also the case for SM-like Higgs pair production in the C2HDM, while the relative QCD corrections in the production of heavier C2HDM Higgs boson pairs deviate more strongly from the SM case. The absolute cross sections both in the EFT and the C2HDM can be modified by more than an order of magnitude. In particular, in the C2HDM the resonant production of Higgs pairs can by far exceed the SM cross section.

After the Higgs boson discovery, LHC can be used as a precision machine to explore its properties. Indeed, in case new resonances will not be found, the only access to New Physics would be via measuring small deviations from the SM predictions. A consistent approach is provided by a bottom-up Effective Field Theory, with dimension six operators built of Standard Model fields (SMEFT). We discuss how this approach works in case of the transverse momentum spectrum of the Higgs particle. In our calculation we augmented the Standard Model with three additional operators describing modifications of the top and bottom Yukawa couplings, and a point-like Higgs coupling to gluons. Based on recently presented resummed transverse-momentum spectra including these operators at NLL+NLO accuracy, which we recently presented in Ref [1], in this note we show the extension of the calculation to NNLL+NNLO. We find that such modifications, while affecting the total rate within the current uncertainties, can lead to significant distortions of the spectrum. Additionally, through significant reduction of the scale uncertainty we improve the sensitivity to the new operators.

We consider the transverse-momentum distribution of a Higgs boson produced through gluon fusion in hadron collisions. At small transverse momenta, the large logarithmic terms are resummed up to next-to-leading-logarithmic (NLL) accuracy. The resummed computation is consistently matched to the next-to-leading-order (NLO) result valid at large transverse momenta. The ensuing Standard Model prediction is supplemented by possible new-physics effects parametrised through three dimension-six operators related to the modification of the top and bottom Yukawa couplings, and to the inclusion of a point-like Higgs-gluon coupling, respectively. We present resummed transverse-momentum spectra including the effect of these operators at NLL+NLO accuracy and study their impact on the shape of the distribution. We find that such modifications, while affecting the total rate within the current uncertainties, can lead to significant distortions of the spectrum. The main goal of the working group was to present the state-of-the-art of Higgs physics at the LHC, integrating all new results that have appeared in the last few years. The first part compiles the most up-to-date predictions of Higgs boson production cross sections and decay branching ratios, parton distribution functions, and off-shell Higgs boson production and interference effects. The second part discusses the recent progress in Higgs effective field theory predictions, followed by the third part on pseudo-observables, simplified template cross section and fiducial cross section measurements, which give the baseline framework for Higgs boson property measurements. The fourth part deals with the beyond the Standard Model predictions of various benchmark scenarios of Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, extended scalar sector, Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model and exotic Higgs boson decays. This report follows three previous working-group reports: Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 1. Inclusive Observables (CERN-2011-002), Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 2. Differential Distributions (CERN-2012-002), and Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 3. Higgs properties (CERN-2013-004). The current report serves as the baseline reference for Higgs physics in LHC Run 2 and beyond.

Standard-Model Higgs bosons are dominantly produced via the gluon-fusion mechanism $gg \to H$ at the LHC, i.e. in a loop-mediated process with top loops providing the dominant contribution. For the measured Higgs boson mass of $\sim 125$ GeV the limit of heavy top quarks provides a reliable approximation as long as the relative QCD corrections are scaled with the full mass-dependent LO cross section. In this limit the Higgs coupling to gluons can be described by an effective Lagrangian. The same approach can also be applied to the coupling of more than one Higgs boson to gluons. We will derive the effective Lagrangian for multi-Higgs couplings to gluons up to N$^4$LO thus extending previous results for more than one Higgs boson. Moreover we discuss gluonic Higgs couplings up to NNLO, if several heavy quarks contribute.

In composite Higgs models the Higgs boson arises as a pseudo-Goldstone boson from a strongly-interacting sector. Fermion mass generation is possible through partial compositeness accompanied by the appearance of new heavy fermionic resonances. The Higgs couplings to the Standard Model (SM) particles and between the Higgs bosons themselves are modified with respect to the SM. Higgs pair production is sensitive to the trilinear Higgs self-coupling but also to anomalous couplings like the novel 2-Higgs-2-fermion coupling emerging in composite Higgs models. The QCD corrections to SM Higgs boson pair production are known to be large. In this paper we compute, in the limit of heavy loop particle masses, the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections to Higgs pair production in composite Higgs models without and with new heavy fermions. The relative QCD corrections are found to be almost insensitive both to the compositeness of the Higgs boson and to the details of the heavy fermion spectrum, since the leading order cross section dominantly factorizes. With the obtained results we investigate the question if, taking into account Higgs coupling constraints, new physics could first be seen in Higgs pair production. We find this to be the case in the high-luminosity option of the LHC for composite Higgs models with heavy fermions. We also investigate the invariant mass distributions at NLO QCD. While they are sensitive to the Higgs non-linearities and hence anomalous couplings, the influence of the heavy fermions is much less pronounced.

In this work we report on the application of the Effective Field Theory to shed light on effects from high-scale physics beyond the Standard Model on the Higgs transverse-momentum spectrum. New Physics that becomes relevant at some high scale $Λ$ beyond the experimental reach, can be described in the effective theory approach by adding higher-dimensional operators to the Standard Model (SM) Lagrangian. In Higgs pair production through gluon fusion, which gives access to the trilinear Higgs self-coupling, this leads not only to modifications of the SM couplings but also induces novel couplings not present in the SM. For a proper prediction of the cross section, higher order QCD corrections that are important for this process, have to be taken into account. The various higher-dimensional contributions are affected differently by the QCD corrections. In this paper, we provide the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections to Higgs pair production including dimension-6 operators in the limit of large top quark masses. Depending on the dimension-6 coefficients entering the Lagrangian, the new operators affect the relative NLO QCD corrections by several per cent, while modifying the cross section by up to an order of magnitude.

Extending previous work on the predictions for the production of supersymmetric (SUSY) particles at the LHC, we present the fully differential calculation of the next-to-leading order (NLO) SUSY-QCD corrections to the production of squark and squark-antisquark pairs of the first two generations. The NLO cross sections are combined with the subsequent decay of the final state (anti)squarks into the lightest neutralino and (anti)quark at NLO SUSY-QCD. No assumptions on the squark masses are made, and the various subchannels are taken into account independently. In order to obtain realistic predictions for differential distributions the fixed-order calculations have to be combined with parton showers. Making use of the Powheg method we have implemented our results in the Powheg-Box framework and interfaced the NLO calculation with the parton shower Monte Carlo programs Pythia6 and Herwig++. The code is publicly available and can be downloaded from the Powheg-Box webpage. The impact of the NLO corrections on the differential distributions is studied and parton shower effects are investigated for different benchmark scenarios.

Within the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) the associated production of neutral Higgs bosons with top and bottom quarks belongs to the most important Higgs-boson production processes at the LHC. At large values of tan(beta), in particular, bottom--Higgs associated production constitutes the dominant production channel within the MSSM. We have calculated the next-to-leading-order supersymmetric QCD corrections to neutral Higgs production through the parton processes q qbar, gg -> t tbar / b bbar + h/H/A and present results for the total cross sections. The genuine SUSY-QCD corrections are of moderate size for small tan(beta), but can be sizable for large tan(beta). In the latter case the bulk of these corrections can be absorbed into effective bottom Yukawa couplings.

The measured properties of the recently discovered Higgs boson are in good agreement with predictions from the Standard Model. However, small deviations in the Higgs couplings may manifest themselves once the currently large uncertainties will be improved as part of the LHC program and at a future Higgs factory. We review typical new physics scenarios that lead to observable modifications of the Higgs interactions. They can be divided into two broad categories: mixing effects as in portal models or extended Higgs sectors, and vertex loop effects from new matter or gauge fields. In each model we relate coupling deviations to their effective new physics scale. It turns out that with percent level precision the Higgs couplings will be sensitive to the multi-TeV regime.

In this note we give interim recommendations on how to evaluate LHC cross sections for (neutral) Higgs production and Higgs branching ratios in the general (CP-conserving) Two-Higgs-Doublet Model (2HDM). The current status of available higher-order corrections to Higgs production and decay in this model is discussed, and the existing public codes implementing these calculations are described. Numerical results are presented for a set of reference scenarios, demonstrating the very good agreement between the results obtained using different programs.

We present the program package NMSSMCALC for the calculation of the loop-corrected NMSSM Higgs boson masses and decay widths in the CP-conserving and CP-violating NMSSM. The full one-loop corrections to the Higgs boson masses are evaluated in a mixed renormalisation scheme of on-shell and $\overline{\mbox{DR}}$ conditions. The Higgs decay widths include the dominant higher order QCD corrections, and the decays into bottom quarks, strange quarks and tau leptons are supplemented by higher order SUSY corrections through effective couplings. All relevant off-shell decays into two massive gauge bosons, gauge and Higgs boson and Higgs pair final states as well as into heavy quark pairs are computed. The input and output files feature the SUSY Les Houches Accord so that the program can easily be linked with existing computer tools.

Abstract:
We analyze the minimal supersymmetric Higgs self-couplings at O(alpha_t alpha_s) within the effective potential approach. The two-loop corrections turn out to be of moderate size in the DRbar scheme if the central scale is chosen as half the SUSY scale. The inclusion of the two-loop corrections reduces the renormalization scale dependence to the per-cent level. These results have a significant imp…

This Report summarizes the results of the activities in 2012 and the first half of 2013 of the LHC Higgs Cross Section Working Group. The main goal of the working group was to present the state of the art of Higgs Physics at the LHC, integrating all new results that have appeared in the last few years. This report follows the first working group report Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 1. Inclusive Observables (CERN-2011-002) and the second working group report Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 2. Differential Distributions (CERN-2012-002). After the discovery of a Higgs boson at the LHC in mid-2012 this report focuses on refined prediction of Standard Model (SM) Higgs phenomenology around the experimentally observed value of 125-126 GeV, refined predictions for heavy SM-like Higgs bosons as well as predictions in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model and first steps to go beyond these models. The other main focus is on the extraction of the characteristics and properties of the newly discovered particle such as couplings to SM particles, spin and CP-quantum numbers etc.

The pair production of squarks is one of the main search channels for supersymmetry at the LHC. In addition, we use the Powheg method to match our NLO calculation with parton showers. To this end, the process was implemented in the Powheg-Box framework and interfaced with Pythia6 and Herwig++. We study the differential scale dependence and K-factors, and investigate the effects of the parton showers for a benchmark scenario in the constrained MSSM.
