We performed angle resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) studies on mechanically detwinned BaFe2As2. We performed angle resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) studies on mechanically detwinned BaFe2As2. We observe clear band dispersions and the shapes and characters of the Fermi surfaces are identified. Shapes of the two hole pockets around the Γ-point are found to be consistent with the Fermi surface topology predicted in the orbital ordered states. Dirac-cone like band dispersions near the Γ-point are clearly identified as theoretically predicted. At the X-point, split bands remain intact in spite of detwinning, barring twinning origin of the bands. The observed band dispersions are compared with calculated band structures. With a magnetic moment of 0.2 ?B per iron atom, there is a good agreement between the calculation and experiment.

We report on angle resolved photoemission spectroscopic studies on a parent topological insulator (TI), Bi$_2$Se$_3$. The line width of the spectral function (inverse of the quasi-particle lifetime) of the topological metallic (TM) states shows an anomalous behavior. This behavior can be reasonably accounted for by assuming decay of the quasi-particles predominantly into bulk electronic states through electron-electron interaction and defect scattering. Studies on aged surfaces reveal that topological metallic states are very much unaffected by the potentials created by adsorbed atoms or molecules on the surface, indicating that topological states could be indeed protected against weak perturbations.

Imaginary parts of the electron removal self energy show step-like features due to an electron-bosonic mode coupling. The step-like feature is seen along both nodal and anti-nodal directions but at energies of 50 and 70 meV, respectively, independent of the do** and rare earth element. Such energy scales can be understood as being due to preferential coupling to half- and full-breathing mode phonons, revealing the phononic origin of the kink structures. Estimated electron-phonon coupling constant lambda from the self energy is roughly independent of the do** and momentum. The isotropic nature of lambda is discussed in comparison with the hole doped case where a strong anisotropy exists.

We propose using the self energy defined for the electron removal Green's function. Starting from the electron removal Green's function, we obtained expressions for the removal self energy Sigma^ER (k,omega) that are applicable for non-quasiparticle photoemission spectral functions from a single band system. Our method does not assume momentum independence and produces the self energy in the full k-omega space. The method is applied to the angle resolved photoemission from Ca_2CuO_2Cl_2 and the result is found to be compatible with the self energy value from the peak width of sharp features. The self energy is found to be only weakly k-dependent. In addition, the Im Sigma shows a maximum at around 1 eV where the high energy kink is located.

We study analytically and numerically the inflationary solutions for various type scalar potentials in the nonminimally coupled scalar field theory. The Hamilton-Jacobi equation is used to deal with nonlinear evolutions of inhomogeneous spacetimes and the long-wavelength approximation is employed. The constraints that lead to a sufficient inflation are found for the nonminimal coupling constant and initial conditions of the scalar field for inflation potentials. In particular, we numerically find an inflationary solution in the new inflation model of a nonminimal scalar field.

We use the Hamilton-Jacobi theory to study the nonlinear evolutions of inhomogeneous spacetimes during inflation in generalized gravity. We find the exact solutions to the lowest order Hamilton-Jacobi equation for special scalar potentials and introduce an approximation method for general potentials. The conserved quantity invariant under a change of timelike hypersurfaces proves useful in dealing with gravitational perturbations. In the long-wavelength approximation, we find a conserved quantity related to the new canonical variable that makes the Hamiltonian density vanish, and calculate the non-Gaussianity in generalized gravity. The slow-roll inflation models with a single scalar field in generalized gravity predict too small non-Gaussianity to be detected by future CMB experiments.

The initial quantum state during inflation may evolve to a highly squeezed quantum state due to the amplification of the time-dependent parameter, $ω_{phys}(k/a)$, which may be the modified dispersion relation in trans-Planckian physics. This squeezed quantum state is a nonclassical state that has no counterpart in the classical theory. We have considered the nonclassical states such as squeezed…

This squeezed quantum state is a nonclassical state that has no counterpart in the classical theory. We have considered the nonclassical states such as squeezed, squeezed coherent, and squeezed thermal states, and calculated the power spectrum of the gravitational wave perturbation when the mode leaves the horizon.
