Neuroimaging consortia can enhance reliability and generalizability of findings by pooling data across studies to achieve larger sample sizes. To adjust for site and MRI protocol effects, imaging datasets are often harmonized based on healthy controls. When data from a control group were not collected, statistical harmonization options are limited as patient characteristics and acquisition-related variables may be confounded. Here, in a multi-study neuroimaging analysis of Alzheimer's patients and controls, we tested whether it is possible to generate synthetic control MRIs. For one case-control study, we used a generative adversarial model for style-based harmonization to generate site-specific controls. Downstream feature extraction, statistical harmonization and group-level multi-study case-control and case-only analyses were performed twice, using either true or synthetic controls. All effect sizes using synthetic controls overlapped with those based on true study controls. This line of work may facilitate wider inclusion of case-only studies in multi-study consortia.

Additionally, we show that every positive integer greater than $94185$ can be expressed as a sum of two Zumkeller numbers and that all sufficiently large integers can be written as a sum of a Zumkeller number and a practical number. We also show that there are infinitely many positive integers that cannot be expressed as a sum of a Zumkeller number and a square or a prime.

In this article, we consider practical numbers of a given polynomial form. We give a necessary and sufficient condition on coefficients $a$ and $b$ for there to be infinitely many practical numbers of the form $an+b$. We also give a necessary and sufficient for a quadratic polynomial to contain infinitely many practical numbers, using which we solve first part of a conjecture mentioned in [9]. In the final section, we prove that every number of $8k+1$ form can be expressed as a sum of a practical number and a square, and for every $j\in \{0,\ldots,7\}\setminus \{1\}$ there are infinitely many natural numbers of $8k+j$ form which cannot be written as sum of a square and a practical number.

We give $m$ formulae consisting of $n$ free variables, with the property that, for any $n$ dimensional object of $m$ colours $C_1,\cdots, C_m$, that can be represented by hypervoxels(multidimensional analogue of pixel) in a $n$ dimensional array of dimensions $A_1\times \cdots \times A_n$, there exists a natural number $k$ such that, when the first formula is graphed using colour $C_1$, second formula is graphed using colour $C_2$,$\cdots$, $m$th formula is graphed using colour $C_m$ in the range $0\leq x_1<A_1$,$0\leq x_2<A_2,\cdots, 0\leq x_{n-1}<A_{n-1},k\leq x_n <k+A_n$, the union of all graphs is that $n$-dimensional object.

Recently, Ledoan and Zaharescu proved that $\{d \in \mathbb{N} : d|n\}\subset A_n$. We extend this result by giving a necessary and sufficient condition for $d\in A_n$ which answers a question posed by Ledoan and Zaharescu. We also find a precise formula for the cardinality of $A_n$ and answer three other questions raised in the same paper.

A well known result of Newman says that upto a limit, multiples of $3$ with even number of 1's in binary representation always exceed multiples of $3$ with odd number of 1's. The phenomenon of preponderance of even number of 1's is now known as Newman's phenomenon. We show that this phenomenon exists for higher bases. Let $b$ be a positive integer($\geq 2$). Let $A_{b}$ be the set of all natural numbers which contain only 0's and 1's in b-ary expansion and $S^{(b)}_{q,i}(n)$ be the difference between the corresponding number of $k_e<n$, $k_e\equiv i \mod q$, $k_e\in A_{b}$ and $k_e$ has even number of 1's in b-ary expansion and the number of $k_o$ $k_o<n$, $k_o\equiv i \mod q$, $k_o\in A_{b}$ and $k_o$ has odd number of 1's in b-ary expansion. Let $q$ be a multiple or divisor of $b+1$ which is relatively prime to $b$ then we show that $S^{(b)}_{q,0}(n)>0$ for sufficiently large $n$. We show that there is a stronger Newman's phenomenon in $A_b$ in the following sense. If $b>2$ and $n=\sum_{i=0}^{k-1}b_i2^i$ with $b_i\in \{0,1\}$, let $b(n)=\sum_{i=0}^{k-1}b_ib^i$ then $\lim_{n\rightarrow \infty} \frac{S^{(2)}_{3,0}(n)}{S^{(b)}_{b+1,0}(b(n))}=0$. That is, for the same number of terms there is stronger preponderance in $A_b$ than in $A_2=\mathbb{N}$. In the last section we show that number of primes $p\leq x$ for which $S_{p,0}^{(b)}(n)>0$ for sufficiently large $n$ is $o\left(\frac{x}{\log x}\right)$.

Efforts aimed at large-scale integration of nanoelectronic devices that exploit the superior electronic and mechanical properties of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) remain limited by the difficulties associated with manipulation and packaging of individual SWNTs. Alternative approaches based on ultra-thin carbon nanotube networks (CNNs) have enjoyed success of late with the realization of several scalable device applications. However, precise control over the network electronic transport is challenging due to i) an often uncontrollable interplay between network coverage and its topology and ii) the inherent electrical heterogeneity of the constituent SWNTs. In this letter, we use template-assisted fluidic assembly of SWCNT networks to explore the effect of geometric confinement on the network topology. Heterogeneous SWCNT networks dip-coated onto sub-micron wide ultra-thin polymer channels exhibit a topology that becomes increasingly aligned with decreasing channel width and thickness. Experimental scale coarse-grained computations of interacting SWCNTs show that the effect is a reflection of an aligned topology that is no longer dependent on the network density, which in turn emerges as a robust knob that can induce semiconductor-to-metallic transitions in the network response. Our study demonstrates the effectiveness of directed assembly on channels with varying degrees of confinement as a simple tool to tailor the conductance of the otherwise heterogeneous network, opening up the possibility of robust large-scale CNN-based devices.

In a gauge invariant formulation of the molecular electric dipole-photon interaction, the rigorous coupling is strictly linear in the photon creation and photon annihilation operators. The linear coupling allows for a super-radiant phase transition as in the Hepp-Lieb formulation. A previous notion of a quadratic-coupling ``no-go theorem'' for super-radiance is incorrect. Also incorrect is a previous assertion that the dipole-photon coupling has absolutely no effect on the thermal equations of state. These dubious assertions were based on incorrect canonical transformations which eliminated the electric field (and thereby eliminated the dipole-photon interaction) which is neither mathematically nor physically consistent. The correct form of the canonical transformations are given in this work which allows for the physical reality of super-radiant condensed matter phases.
