The creation of highly enhanced and localized electromagnetic fields in dielectric structures with low losses, that is, hot spot technology, is an important applied and fundamental problem. However, known examples are reduced to single hot spots generated by low-frequency dipole resonances. Here, a manifold of hot spots were observed experimentally and in calculations in the gap of a ring-inner disk dielectric dimer with a rectangular cross-section. In addition to dipole hot spots, galleries of equidistant hot spots were observed, generated by galleries of disk modes, as well as by galleries of ring modes, each of which begins with a transverse Fabry-Pérot resonance. Therefore, this direction in photonics is called Fabry-Pérot-tronics by analogy with Mie-tronics of spherical particles. The intensity contour of hot spots in the gap has a Fano contour associated with the interference of radiation from narrow longitudinal modes of the ring or disk with broadband scattering on the opposite side of the gap. Controlled transfer of hot spots along the gap and splitting of the hot spot by scanning the exciting frequency in the spectral region of the Fano contour are also implemented. Galleries of tunable bright hot spots provide a new platform for multichannel sensing, SERS and nonlinear applications.

The complete picture of the optical properties of resonant structures, along with the frequency, quality factor, and line shape in the scattering spectra, is determined by the electromagnetic field distribution patterns, which are a kind of "fingerprint" of each resonant eigenmode. In this paper, we simultaneously analyze the changes in the spectra and the transformation of the field pattern during the topological transitions from a thin disk to a ring with a gradually increasing thickness and further to a split ring. In addition, we demonstrate characteristic optical fingerprints for well-known interference effects such as bound states in the continuum and Fano resonances.

A general picture of photonic eigenmodes of dielectric rings with a rectangular cross section is presented, which is fundamentally different from those of whispering gallery modes of the disc. The optical spectrum of a rectangular dielectric ring consists of an infinite set of individual galleries, each starting with broad transverse radial or axial Fabry-Pérot resonances due to two pairs of side faces. Each gallery continues with a set of equidistant longitudinal modes with exponentially increasing quality factors. Transverse radial and axial modes exhibit strict periodicity of line contours in the Fano-Lorentz-Fano-Lorentz... sequence due to the periodicity of cylindrical harmonics. Theoretical and experimental results are in perfect agreement.

The problem of losses in resonators is a key issue in the design and use of modern plasmonic and photonic meta-devices. We propose a spectroscopic method for determining material and radiation losses in structures with bound states in the continuum using as example the phase-change chalcogenide Ge2Sb2Te5. The complex refractive index for the amorphous and crystalline Ge2Sb2Te5 phases was measured experimentally, and the resonance optical properties were calculated for a telecommunication wavelength of 1500 nm. To demonstrate the validity of the method, two types of resonators were considered - a cylinder and a ring which support bound states in the continuum according to the Friedrich - Wintgen mechanism. We have determined the value of the material quality-factor for the amorphous Ge2Sb2Te5 as Qmat = 46 and the values of the radiation quality-factors Qrad = 608 for the cylinder and Qrad = 332 for the ring of a pair of TE0,1,2 and TE0,2,0 modes in the regime of bound states in the continuum. We also demonstrated two mechanisms for efficient switching of the scattering spectra between the amorphous and crystalline phases of Ge2Sb2Te5.
