Spaces where all closed sets are $α$-limit sets
Abstract: Metrizable spaces are studied in which every closed set is an $α$-limit set for some continuous map and some point. It is shown that this property is enjoyed by every space containing sufficiently many arcs (formalized in the notion of a space with enough arcs), though such a space need not be arcwise connected. Further it is shown that this property is not preserved by topological sums, products… ▽ More

Rigidity and Flexibility of Polynomial Entropy
Abstract: We introduce the notion of a one-way horseshoe and show that the polynomial entropy of an interval map is given by one-way horseshoes of iterates of the map, obtaining in such a way an analogue of Misiurewicz's theorem on topological entropy and standard `two-way' horseshoes. Moreover, if the map is of Sharkovskii type 1 then its polynomial entropy can also be computed by what we call chains of es… ▽ More

Specification property for step skew products
Abstract: Step skew products with interval fibres and a subshift as a base are considered. It is proved that if the fibre maps are continuous, piecewise monotone, expanding and surjective and the subshift has the specification property and a periodic orbit such that the composition of the fibre maps along this orbit is mixing, then the corresponding step skew product has the specification property.

Generic chaos on dendrites
Abstract: We characterize dendrites $D$ such that a continuous selfmap of $D$ is generically chaotic (in the sense of Lasota) if and only if it is generically $\varepsilon$-chaotic for some $\varepsilon>0$. In other words, we characterize dendrites on which generic chaos of a continuous map can be described in terms of the behaviour of subdendrites with nonempty interiors under iterates of the map. A dendri… ▽ More

Minimal direct products
Abstract: A space is called minimal if it admits a minimal continuous selfmap. We give examples of metrizable continua $X$ admitting both minimal homeomorphisms and minimal noninvertible maps, whose squares $X\times X$ are not minimal, i.e., they admit neither minimal homeomorphisms nor minimal noninvertible maps, thus providing a definitive answer to a question posed by Bruin, Kolyada and the second author… ▽ More

Topology and Topological Sequence Entropy
Abstract: Let $X$ be a compact metric space and $T:X\longrightarrow X$ be continuous. Let $h^*(T)$ be the supremum of topological sequence entropies of $T$ over all subsequences of $\mathbb Z_+$ and $S(X)$ be the set of the values $h^*(T)$ for all continuous maps $T$ on $X$. It is known that $\{0\} \subseteq S(X)\subseteq \{0, \log 2, \log 3, \ldots\}\cup \{\infty\}$. Only three possibilities for $S(X)$ hav… ▽ More

Minimal space with non-minimal square
Abstract: We completely solve the problem whether the product of two compact metric spaces admitting minimal maps also admits a minimal map. Recently Boroński, Clark and Oprocha gave a negative answer in the particular case when homeomorphisms rather than continuous maps are considered. In the present paper we show that there is a metric continuum $X$ admitting a minimal map, in fact a minimal homeomorphism… ▽ More

Minimality for actions of abelian semigroups on compact spaces with a free interval
Abstract: We study minimality for continuous actions of abelian semigroups on compact Hausdorff spaces with a free interval. First, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for such a space to admit a minimal action of a given abelian semigroup. Further, for actions of abelian semigroups we provide a trichotomy for the topological structure of minimal sets intersecting a free interval.

Minimal spaces with cyclic group of homeomorphisms
Abstract: There are two main subjects in this paper. 1) For a topological dynamical system $(X,T)$ we study the topological entropy of its "functional envelopes" (the action of $T$ by left composition on the space of all continuous self-maps or on the space of all self-homeomorphisms of $X$). In particular we prove that for zero-dimensional spaces $X$ both entropies are infinite except when $T$ is equicon… ▽ More

Minimal sets of fibre-preserving maps in graph bundles
Abstract: Topological structure of minimal sets is studied for a dynamical system $(E,F)$ given by a fibre-preserving, in general non-invertible, continuous selfmap $F$ of a graph bundle $E$. These systems include, as a very particular case, quasiperiodically forced circle homeomorphisms. Let $M$ be a minimal set of $F$ with full projection onto the base space $B$ of the bundle. We show that $M$ is nowhere… ▽ More

For graph maps, one scrambled pair implies Li-Yorke chaos
Abstract: For a dynamical system $(X,f)$, $X$ being a compact metric space with metric $d$ and $f$ being a continuous map $X\to X$, a set $S\subseteq X$ is scrambled if every pair $(x,y)$ of distinct points in $S$ is scrambled, i.e., $\liminf_{n\to+\infty}d(f^n(x),f^n(y))=0$ and $\limsup_{n\to+\infty}d(f^n(x),f^n(y))>0$. The system $(X,f)$ is Li-Yorke chaotic if it has an uncountable scrambled set. It is kn… ▽ More

Dynamical consequences of a free interval: minimality, transitivity, mixing and topological entropy
Abstract: We study dynamics of continuous maps on compact metrizable spaces containing a free interval (i.e., an open subset homeomorphic to an open interval). A special attention is paid to relationships between topological transitivity, weak and strong topological mixing, dense periodicity and topological entropy as well as to the topological structure of minimal sets. In particular, a trichotomy for mini… ▽ More
