A detailed study of charge transport in the paramagnetic phase of Ho0.8Lu0.2B12 strongly correlated antiferromagnet was carried out at temperatures 1.9-300 K in magnetic fields up to 80 kOe. Four mono-domain single crystals with different orientation of normal vectors to the lateral surface of Ho0.8Lu0.2B12 samples were investigated in order to establish the changes in Hall effect due to the anisotropy, induced by (i) the electronic phase separation (dynamic charge stripes) and (ii) formation of the disordered cage-glass state below 60 K. It was demonstrated that in magnetic fields above 40 kOe directed along the 001 and 110 axes in fcc crystals a considerable intrinsic anisotropic positive component Ranxy appears in addition to the ordinary negative Hall resistivity contribution. The relation Ranxy prop. Ranxx 1.7 was found between anomalous components of the resistivity tensor for H along 001 below 60 K, and the power law Ranxy prop. Ranxx 0.83 was detected for the orientation H along 110 at temperatures T below TS about 15 K. It is argued that below TS about 15 K the anomalous odd Ranxy(T) and even Ranxx(T) parts of the resistivity tensor may be interpreted in terms of formation of a large size clusters in the filamentary structure of fluctuating charges (stripes). We assume that these Ranxy(001) and Ranxy(110) components represent the intrinsic (Berry phase contribution) and extrinsic (skew scattering) mechanism, respectively. An additional ferromagnetic contribution to anomalous Hall effect (AHE) for both ordinary and anisotropic components in Hall signal was registered and attributed to the effect of magnetic polarization of 5d states (ferromagnetic nano-domains) in the conduction band of Ho0.8Lu0.2B12.

Evidence of two-band superconductivity with two branches of upper critical field Hc2(Tc) is obtained in a magnetic field applied along the [110] axis of the crystal. On the contrary, at H //[100], the only dependence Hc2(Tc) is observed. This finding is supplemented with the checkerboard-type patterns of the charge stripes in ZrB12 deduced from the detailed analysis of XRD data. These patterns are compared to the structure of the charge stripes in the weakly bound superconductor LuB12, whose Tc is 15 times lower than that of ZrB12. Probable nature of the two-gap superconductivity in ZrB12 with strongly enhanced characteristics is discussed.

The strongly correlated system Ho11B12 with boron sublattice Jahn-Teller instability and nanoscale electronic phase separation (dynamic charge stripes) was studied in detail by inelastic neutron scattering (INS), magnetometry and heat capacity measurements at temperatures in the range 3-300 K. From the analysis of registered INS spectra, we determined parameters of the cubic crystal field at holmium sites, B4=- 0.333 meV and B6= -2.003 meV (in Stevens notations), with an unconventional large ratio B6/B4 pointing on the dominant role of conduction electrons in the formation of a crystal field potential. The molecular field in the antiferromagnetic state, Bloc = (1.75+- 0.1) T has been directly determined from the INS spectra together with short-range order effects detected in the paramagnetic state. A comparison of measured magnetization in diluted Lu0.99Ho0.01B12 and concentrated HoB12 single crystals showed a strong suppression of Ho magnetic moments by antiferromagnetic exchange interactions in holmium dodecaboride. To account explicitly for the short-range antiferromagnetic correlations, a self-consistent holmium dimer model was developed that allowed us to reproduce successfully field and temperature variations of the magnetization and heat capacity in the cage-glass phase of HoB12 in external magnetic fields.

The physical properties of rare-earth (RE) dodecaborides, characterized by a cage-glass crystal structure with loosely bound RE ions, are reviewed. These compounds are strongly correlated electron systems with simultaneously active charge, spin, orbital, and lattice degrees of freedom, which explains the complexity of all $R\mathrm{B}_{12}$ compounds including antiferromagnetic (TbB$_{12}$-TmB$_{12}$) and nonmagnetic (LuB$_{12}$) metals, on one side, and the so-called Kondo insulator compound YbB$_{12}$ and Yb-based Yb$_{x}R_{1-x}$B$_{12}$ solid solutions, on the other. The development of the cooperative dynamic Jahn-Teller instability of the covalent boron network produces trigonal and tetragonal distortions of the rigid cage and results in the symmetry lowering of the fcc lattice in the dodecaborides. The ferrodistortive dynamics in the boron sub-lattice generates both the collective modes and quasilocal vibrations (rattling modes) of the heavy RE ions, causing a modulation in the charge-carrier density and the emergence of dynamic charge stripes. We consider their manifestations both in the properties of the nonmagnetic reference compound LuB$_{12}$ and in the phase diagrams of the $R\mathrm{B}_{12}$ antiferromagnets that exhibit multiple magnetic phases with anisotropic field-angular phase diagrams in the form of the Maltese cross. We also discuss the metal-insulator transitions in YbB$_{12}$ and Yb-based dodecaborides in terms of the instability of the Yb 4$f$-electron configuration, which appears in addition to the Jahn-Teller instability of the boron cage, providing one more mechanism of the charge and spin fluctuations. The experimental results challenge the established Kondo-insulator scenario in YbB$_{12}$, providing arguments in favor of the appearance of Yb-Yb vibrationally coupled pairs which should be considered as the main factor responsible for the charge- and spin-gap formation.

Tm1-xYbxB12 dodecaborides represent model objects for the studies of quantum critical behavior, metal-insulator transition and complex charge-spin-orbital-phonon coupling phenomena. In spite of intensive investigations, the mechanism of the ground state formation in this strongly correlated electron system remains a subject of active debates. We have performed first systematic measurements of temperature-dependent spectra of infrared conductivity of Tm0.19Yb0.81B12 at frequencies 40-35000 cm-1 and in the temperature interval from 300 K down to 10 K. Analysis of the temperature evolution of the observed absorption resonances is performed. Their origin is associated with the Jahn-Teller instability in the cubic lattice which results in the rattling modes of the rare earth ions and leads to emergence of both the intra-gap mixed-type collective excitations and the dynamic charge stripes. Temperature dependent effective mass of charge carriers is determined and a picture is presented of the multiple relaxation channels and the transformation of the manybody states at different temperatures. We argue in favor of electronic phase separation scenario which is valid both for the metal-insulator transition and for the formation of the nanoscale filamentary structure in Tm1-xYbxB12 compounds.

Materials with low electron work function are of great demand in various branches of science and technology. LaB6 is among the most effective electron-beam sources with one of the highest brightness of thermionic emission. A deep understanding of the physical mechanisms responsible for the extraordinary properties of LaB6 is required in order to optimize the parameters and design of thermionic elements for application in various electron-beam devices. Motivated by recent experiments on rare earth borides indicating a strong coupling of conduction electrons to the crystal lattice and rare earth ions, we have studied the state of electrons in the conduction band of lanthanum hexaboride by performing infrared spectroscopic, DC resistivity and Hall-effect studies of LaB6 single crystals with different ratios of 10B and 11B isotopes. We find that only a small amount of electrons in the conduction band behave as Drude-type mobile charge carriers while up to 70% of the electrons are far out of equilibrium and involved in collective oscillations of electron density coupled to vibrations of the Jahn-Teller unstable rigid boron cage and rattling modes of La-ions that are loosely bound to the lattice. We argue that exactly these non-equilibrium (hot) electrons in the conduction band determine the extraordinary low work function of thermoemission in LaB6. Our observation may guide future search for compounds with possibly lower electron work function.

It has been revealed that anharmonic approximation is useful when analyzing the static and dynamic components of the atomic displacement parameters of gadolinium. The barrier height of double-well potential of Gd3+ ions was determined both from low-temperature heat capacity measurements and from the electron density distribution reconstructed from X-ray data.

The model strongly correlated electron system Ho0.8Lu0.2B12 which demonstrates a cooperative Jahn-Teller instability of the boron sub-lattice in combination with rattling modes of Ho(Lu) ions, dynamic charge stripes and unusual antiferromagnetic (AF) ground state has been studied in detail at low temperatures by magnetoresistance, magnetization and heat capacity measurements. Based on received results it turns out that the angular H-fi-T magnetic phase diagrams of this non-equilibrium AF metal can be reconstructed in the form of a Maltese cross. The dramatic AF ground state symmetry lowering of this dodecaboride with fcc crystal structure can be attributed to the redistribution of conduction electrons which leave the RKKY oscillations of the electron spin density to participate in the dynamic charge stripes providing with extraordinary changes in the indirect exchange interaction between magnetic moments of Ho3+ ions and resulting in the emergence of a number of various magnetic phases. It is also shown that the two main contributions to magnetoresistance in the complex AF phase, the (i) positive linear on magnetic field and the (ii) negative quadratic component can be separated and analyzed quantitatively, correspondingly, in terms of charge carrier scattering on spin density wave (5d) component of the magnetic structure and on local 4f-5d spin fluctuations of holmium sites.

Structure differences of isotopically different dodecaborides LuNB12 (N = 10, 11, natural) and their impact on thermal and charge transport characteristics of the crystals have been first discovered. Atomic displacement parameters (ADPs) of Lu and B atoms are described in terms of the Einstein and Debye models, respectively. Characteristic Einstein and Debye temperatures are calculated directly from the x-ray data and corresponding ADPs are separated into temperature dependent and temperature independent components. The first component is a measure of thermal atomic vibrations whereas the second one is a sum of zero vibrations and static shifts of some atoms from their crystallographic positions. Such a local disordering is more expressed in LunatB12 with 10B : 11B = 1 : 4 judging both from the large static ADP components and the Schottky anomalies in the heat capacity. Crystal structures are refined in Fm3-m group but certain distortions of the ideal cubic unit-cell values are observed in all three crystals under study due to cooperative Jahn-Teller effect. The distortions are mainly trigonal or mainly tetragonal depending on the isotope composition. Low symmetry distribution of electron density reveals itself in LunatB12 in the form of the dynamic charge stripes oriented in selected directions close to some of <110>. The large static ADP components of LunatB12 are surprisingly combined with high conductivity of the crystal. One may suppose the static shifts (defects) are centers of pinning facilitating formation of additional conductive channels.

In all compounds, in addition to the Drude free-carrier spectral component, a broad excitation is discovered with the unusually large dielectric contribution $Δ$$\varepsilon$=5000 -- 15000 and non-Lorentzian lineshape. It is suggested that the origin of the excitation is connected with the dynamic cooperative Jahn-Teller effect of B$_6$ clusters. Analysis of the spectra together with the results of DC and Hall resistivity measurements shows that only 30$-$50$\%$ of the conduction band electrons are contributing to the free carrier conductivity with the rest being involved in the formation of an overdamped excitation, thus providing possible explanation of remarkably low work function of thermoemission of Gd$_x$La$_{1-x}$B$_6$ and non-Fermi-liquid behavior in GdB$_6$ crystals.

Higher accuracy low temperature charge transport measurements in combination with precise X-ray diffraction experiment have allowed detecting the symmetry lowering in the single domain Tm0.19Yb0.81B12 crystals of the family of dodecaborides with metal-insulator transition. Basing on the fine structure analysis we discover formation of dynamic charge stripes within the semiconducting matrix of Tm0.19Yb0.81B12. The charge dynamics in these metallic nano-size conducting channels is characterized by broad-band optical spectroscopy that allowed estimating the frequency (~2.4 10^11 Hz) of quantum motion of the charge carriers. It is suggested that caused by cooperative Jahn-Teller effect in the boron sub-lattice, the large amplitude rattling modes of the Tm and Yb ions are responsible for modulation of the conduction band along [110] direction through the variation of 5d-2p hybridization of electron states.

We observed a strong magnetic signal in both the $μ$SR and magnetometry data in one sample ($x=0.07$), likely caused by the formation of static moments of size $\approx 1\,μ_{\rm B}$ due to a clustering effect of the Lu$^{3+}$ ions. In all other samples, we find only a small magnetic signal in the $μ$SR data thought to originate from boron nuclei in the B$_{12}$ cages. The superconductivity is found to evolve with $x$, with a decrease in $x$ resulting in an increase in critical temperature and a decrease of the penetration depth. Most remarkably, we find the formation of nodes in the superconducting gap for $x \leq 0.17$, providing a new example of an $s$-to-$d$-wave crossover in a superconductor.

The crystal structure of LuB12 can be refined with record low R-factor in the cubic Fm-3m symmetry group despite reiterated observations of the cubic symmetry distortions both in the unit-cell values and in the physical properties. A peculiar computing strategy is developed to resolve this contradiction. True symmetry of the electron-density distribution in LuB12 is proved to be much lower than cubic as a result, which correlates very accurately with anisotropy of transport properties of LuB12.

Such a scenario is in good agreement with the results of the magnetic relaxation measurements.

The analysis of received results points to a formation of static magnetic moments with $μ_{eff}$$\approx$$3μ_B$ per Lu-ion. The size of these spin polarized nanodomains was estimated to be about 5 $Å$.

The magnetic inhomogeneity of the A-phase in MnSi chiral magnet is identified for the first time from the precise measurements of transverse magnetoresistance (MR) anisotropy. The area inside the A-phase (A-phase core) corresponds to isotropic MR having no confinement to the MnSi crystal lattice. Per contra, the MR becomes anisotropic both on the border of the A-phase and in other magnetic phases, the strongest magnetic scattering being observed when external magnetic field applied along [001] or [00-1] directions. We argue here that the established MR features prove the presence of two different types of the skyrmion lattices inside the A-phase, and the dense skyrmion state of the A-phase core is built from individual skyrmions similar to Abrikosov-type magnetic vortexes.

On the Problem of Validity of Anderson and Kondo Models in Physics of Strongly Correlated Electron Systems

Abstract:
We argue that the Anderson and Kondo models turn out to be irrelevant for the description of some strongly correlated electron systems and we suggest the mechanism for the formation of many-body states (heavy fermions) being an alternative to the Kondo one. This mechanism involves the quantum tunneling of a heavy particle between the states in the double-well potential.

The magnetoresistance (MR) $Δρ/ρ$ of cage-glass compound Ho$_x$Lu$_{1-x}$B$_{12}$ with various concentration of magnetic holmium ions ($x$$\leq$0.5) has been studied in detail concurrently with magnetization M(T) and Hall effect investigations on high quality single crystals at temperatures 1.9-120 K and in magnetic field up to 80 kOe. The undertaken analysis of $Δρ/ρ$ allows us to conclude that the large negative magnetoresistance (nMR) observed in vicinity of Neel temperature is caused by scattering of charge carriers on magnetic clusters of Ho$^{3+}$ ions, and that these nanosize regions with AF exchange inside may be considered as short range order AF domains. It was shown that the Yosida relation $-Δρ/ρ$$\sim$$M^2$ provides an adequate description of the nMR effect for the case of Langevin type behavior of magnetization. Moreover, a reduction of Ho-ion effective magnetic moments in the range 3-9$μ_B$ was found to develop both with temperature lowering and under the increase of holmium content. A phenomenological description of the large positive quadratic contribution $Δρ/ρ$$\sim$$μ_D^2 H^2$ which dominates in Ho$_x$Lu$_{1-x}$B$_{12}$ in the intermediate temperature range 20-120 K allows to estimate the drift mobility exponential changes $μ_D$$\sim$$T^{-a}$ with $a$=1.3-1.6 depending on Ho concentration. An even more comprehensive behavior of magnetoresistance has been found in the AF state of Ho$_x$Lu$_{1-x}$B$_{12}$ where an additional linear positive component was observed and attributed to charge carriers scattering on the spin density wave (SDW). High precision measurements of $Δρ/ρ=f(H,T)$ have allowed us also to reconstruct the magnetic H-T phase diagram of Ho$_{0.5}$Lu$_{0.5}$B$_{12}$ and to resolve its magnetic structure as a superposition of 4f (based on localized moments) and 5d (based on SDW) components.

The magnetization field and temperature dependences in the paramagnetic phase of Mn1-xFexSi solid solutions with x<0.3 are investigated in the range B<5 T and T<60 K. It is found that field dependences of the magnetization M(B,T=const) exhibit scaling behavior of the form B\partial M/\partial B-M=F(B/(T-Ts)), where Ts denotes an empirically determined temperature of the transition into the magnetic phase with fluctuation driven short-range magnetic order and F(\c{hi}) is a universal scaling function for given composition. The scaling relation allowed concluding that the magnetization in the paramagnetic phase of Mn1-xFexSi is represented by the sum of two terms. The first term is saturated by the scaling variable \c{hi}=B/(T-Ts), whereas the second is linearly dependent on the magnetic field. A simple analytical formula describing the magnetization is derived and applied to estimates of the parameters characterizing localized magnetic moments in the studied system. The obtained data may be qualitatively interpreted assuming magnetic inhomogeneity of the paramagnetic phase on the nanoscale.

Resonant magnetic excitations are widely recognized as hallmarks of unconventional superconductivity in copper oxides, iron pnictides, and heavy-fermion compounds. Numerous model calculations have related these modes to the microscopic properties of the pair wave function, but the mechanisms underlying their formation are still debated. Here we report the discovery of a similar resonant mode in the non-superconducting, antiferromagnetically ordered heavy-fermion metal CeB6. Unlike conventional magnons, the mode is non-dispersive, and its intensity is sharply concentrated around a wave vector separate from those characterizing the antiferromagnetic order. The magnetic intensity distribution rather suggests that the mode is associated with a coexisting order parameter of the unusual antiferro-quadrupolar phase of CeB6, which has long remained "hidden" to the neutron-scattering probes. The mode energy increases continuously below the onset temperature for antiferromagnetism, in parallel to the opening of a nearly isotropic spin gap throughout the Brillouin zone. These attributes bear strong similarity to those of the resonant modes observed in unconventional superconductors below their critical temperatures. This unexpected commonality between the two disparate ground states indicates the dominance of itinerant spin dynamics in the ordered low-temperature phases of CeB6 and throws new light on the interplay between antiferromagnetism, superconductivity, and "hidden" order parameters in correlated-electron materials.

The angular, temperature and magnetic field dependences of Hall resistance roH for the rare-earth dodecaboride solid solutions Tm1-xYbxB12 have been studied in a wide vicinity of the quantum critical point (QCP) xC~0.3. The measurements performed in the temperature range 1.9-300 K on high quality single crystals allowed to find out for the first time in these fcc compounds both an appearance of the second harmonic contribution in ro2H at QCP and its enhancement under the Tm to ytterbium substitution and/or with increase of external magnetic field. When the Yb concentration x increases a negative maximum of a significant amplitude was shown to appear on the temperature dependences of Hall coefficient RH(T) for the Tm1-xYbxB12 compounds. Moreover, a complicated activation type behavior of the Hall coefficient is observed at intermediate temperatures for x>0.5 with activation energies Eg~200K and Ea~55-75K in combination with the sign inversion of RH(T) at low temperatures in the coherent regime. The density of states renormalization effects are analyzed within the variation of Yb concentration and the features of the charge transport in various regimes (charge gap formation, intra-gap manybody resonance and coherent regime) are discussed in detail in Tm1-xYbxB12 solid solutions.

Hall effect was studied on the single crystals of antiferromagnets PrB$_6$ and NdB$_6$ at temperatures 2K$<$T$<300$K in magnetic fields up to 8T using the sample rotation technique. At low magnetic fields $μ_0$H$\leq1$T Hall coefficient R$_\mathrm{H}$, which is practically temperature independent in paramagnetic state at 8K$\leq$T$\leq70$K, is characterized by the values of R$_H$(PrB$_6$)$\sim-(4.2\pm0.1)\cdot10^{-4}$ cm$^3$/C and R$_H$(NdB$_6$)$\sim-(4.1\pm0.1)\cdot10^{-4}$ cm$^3$/C. Rather different behaviour of R$_H$ is observed in antiferromagnetic (AF) phases of these hexaborides. For PrB$_6$ the decrease of temperature below T$_N\approx6.7$K is accompanied by a noticeable ($ΔR_H/R_H\sim10%$) elevation of R$_H$($μ_0$H$=1$T) to the values of $-(3.8\pm0.1)\cdot10^{-4}$ cm$^3$/C. On the contrary, the low field Hall coefficient in NdB$_6$ diminishes by about 15% reaching the value R$_H\approx-(4.7\pm0.1)\cdot10^{-4}$ cm$^3$/C in AF state at 2.5K. The increase of magnetic field inducing magnetic transition in the commensurate magnetic phase of PrB$_6$ results in essential R$_H$ changes (up to 10%) at liquid helium temperatures. The anomalous behaviour of the charge transport parameters for RB$_6$ (R=Pr, Nd) found in vicinity of Neel temperature suggests the possible effect of $5d$-states spin density polarization of both in AF and paramagnetic states of the compounds under investigation.

For the Faraday geometry this mode is damped for the microwave field Bw aligned along a certain crystallographic direction showing that the character of magnetic oscillation differs from the standard spin precession. The observed resonance coexists with the ESR on Cu2+ chains and argued not to be caused by "impurity" EPR, as previously claimed, but to correspond to a previously unknown collective mode of magnetic oscillations in S=1/2 AF quantum spin chain.

The quantitative ESR line shape analysis shows that the low temperature (T<40 K) magnetic susceptibility of Cu2+ chains diverges with the critical exponent a=0.81 and therefore indicates an onset of a quantum critical (QC) regime. The scenario, in which disorder caused by the Mn impurity in the quantum spin chains in CuGeO3 may lead to the co-existence of the QC regime and the spin-Peierls dimerisation, is discussed. For the quantitative description of the temperature dependences of the line width and g-factor a model assuming the crossover from the high temperature semiclassical Nagata and Tazuke limit to the low temperature quantum case described by Oshikawa and Affleck theory is suggested.

The research was performed in a wide range of temperatures (1.8-30K) and magnetic fields (up to 80 kOe). The data analysis indicates that the most consistent interpretation of magnetoresistance of both paramagnetic and magnetically ordered Ce-based systems with strong electron correlations can be obtained through the approach developed by K.Yosida (Phys.Rev., 107, 396(1957)) that considers charge carrier scattering on localized magnetic moments in metallic matrix. Within this approach local magnetic susceptibility hiloc(H,T0)=(1/H d(dr/r)/dH)1/2 has been estimated directly from the magnetoresistance data dr/r=f(H,T0). As a result, two additional contributions to magnetoresistance in Ce-based magnetic intermetallides have been established and classified. The procedure allowed to determine the peculiarities of magnetic phase ht diagram as well as to reveal the electron density of states renormalization effects in a wide vicinity of quantum critical point in the archetypal Ce-based systems with strong electron correlations.

Experimental evidence of the magnetic resonance in the antiferro-quadrupole phase of CeB6 is reported. We have shown that below orbital ordering temperature a new magnetic contribution from localized magnetic moments (LMM) emerge and gives rise to observed resonant phenomenon. This behaviour is hardly possible to expect in dense Kondo system, where LMM should vanish al low temperatures rather than emerge. From the other hand, in the quadrupole ordering concept, where magnetism of Ce magnetic ions is solely accounted, is difficult to explain splitting of magnetisation into components having different physical nature. Therefore an adequate theory explaining magnetic properties of CeB6 including magnetic resonance and orbital ordering appears on the agenda.

For the first time a complex activated behavior of the Hall coefficient in CeAl3 with activation energies Ea1/kB=220K and Ea2/kB=3.3K has been observed in the temperature intervals 50-300K and 10-35K respectively. At temperatures below the maximum of the Hall effect T<Tmax=10K an asymptotic dependence RH(T)=exp(-Ea3/kBT) was found in CeAl3 with the value Ea3/kB=0.38K estimated from the experimental data. The temperature evolution of microscopic parameters (effective mass and localization radius) evaluated for the many-body states (heavy fermions) is discussed in terms of an electron-polaron states formation in vicinity of Ce-sites in the CeAl3 matrix.

Abstract:
The EPR spectra along different crystallographic axes for single crystals of CuGeO3 containing 1% of Fe impurity have been studied in the frequency range 60-360 GHz at temperatures 0.5-30 K. The analysis based on the Oshikawa-Affleck (OA) theory suggests that the temperature dependences of the line width and g-factor are formed as a result of the competition between interchain antiferromagnetic…

The analysis based on the Oshikawa-Affleck (OA) theory suggests that the temperature dependences of the line width and g-factor are formed as a result of the competition between interchain antiferromagnetic interactions and staggered Zeeman energy. It is found that staggered magnetic moments in CuGeO3:Fe are located predominantly along b axis.

Abstract:
For the CuGeO3 single crystals doped with 1% of Fe the quantum critical behavior in a wide temperature range 1-40 K is reported. The critical exponents for susceptibility along different crystallographic axes are determined: a=0.34 (B //a and B //c) and a=0.31 (B //b). The description of the temperature dependences of the line width and g-factor could be obtained in the OA theory assuming that s…

Resonant magnetoabsorption spectra for CuGeO3 single crystals containing 2% of Co impurity are studied in the frequency range 60-360 GHz in magnetic field up to 16 T at temperatures 2-60 K. It is found that together with the resonance on Cu2+ chains a new absorption line related with Co2+ ions appears in EPR spectrum. The full set of spectroscopic data (g-factors, linewidths, integrated intensities) have been determined for both resonances. The obtained results exhibit considerable deviations from the universal scenario of do** for CuGeO3 and discussed in the frames of the models of the quantum critical behavior and the three-dimensional antiferromagnet with the reduced by disorder Neel temperature. The Oshikawa and Affleck theory for EPR in 1D S=1/2 AF spin chain is compared with experiment.

Using high frequency (up to 450 GHz) ESR and low temperature specific heat measurements we find that insertion of 1% Fe and 2% Co damps spin-Peierls and Neel transitions and for T<30K gives rise to onset of a quantum critical behaviour characteristic for a random dimer Griffiths phase.

ESR measurements for the frequency/temperature domain 60-450 GHz/ 1.8-300 K and specific heat data obtained for the interval 6-20 K show that insertion of 1% of Fe completely destroy both spin-Peierls and antiferromagnetic orders. Dam** of long-range magnetic order is accompanied by onset at T<20 K of power asymptotics for magnetic susceptibility chi~T^-alpha and magnetic part of specific heat cm~T^(1-alpha), with the index alpha=0.35-0.37. This effect is characteristic to the limit of strong disorder for doped CuGeO3 and may reflect formation of the Griffiths phase at low temperatures in CuGeO3:Fe.

Temperature dependence in the interval 4.2-300 K and the critical behavior of the dielectric function along c-axis in NaV2O5 have been studied in the frequency range 1 MHz-1 GHz. These data were analyzed together with literature data concerning specific heat, magnetic losses and ultrasonic velocity. We found that all results support the idea about universality of the critical laws at the transition in NaV2O5 where different physical quantities demonstrate identical shape of the anomaly. Considerable deviations from the standard theory of the second order transition including asymmetry of the critical behavior above and below transition and appearance of the anomalous background are detected.
