The human tri-color vision process may be characterized as follows:
1. A requirement of three scalar quantities to fully define a color (for example, intensity, hue, and purity), with
2. These scalar measures linear in the intensity of the incident light, allowing in general any specific color to be duplicated by an additive mixture of light from three standardized (basis) colors,
3. The exception being that the spectral colors are unique, in that they cannot be duplicated by any positive mixture of other colors.
These characteristics strongly suggest that human color vision makes use of Schwartz measures in processing color data. This hypothesis is subject to test. In this brief paper, the results of this hypothesis are shown to be in good agreement with measured data.

Investigation of the mathematical requirements for a three dimensional geometrical object to qualify as a Gomboc (mono-monostatic) has resulted in the discovery of two specific, analytical Gomboc shapes. Analytical in that the function describing the Gomboc surface is infinitely differentiable.

Al-Si alloys processed by laser rapid solidification yield eutectic microstructures with ultrafine and interconnected fibers. Such fibrous structures have long been thought to bear resemblance to those formed in impurity-doped alloys upon conventional casting. Here, we show that any similarity is purely superficial. By harnessing high-throughput characterization and computer vision techniques, we perform a three-dimensional analysis of the branching behavior of the ultrafine eutectic and compare it against an impurity-modified eutectic as well as a random fractal (as a benchmark). Differences in the branching statistics point to different microstructural origins of the impurity- and quench-modified eutectic. Our quantitative approach is not limited to the data presented here but can be used to extract abstract information from other volumetric datasets, without customization.

The election forecasting 'industry' is a growing one, both in the volume of scholars producing forecasts and methodological diversity. In recent years a new approach has emerged that relies on social media and particularly Twitter data to predict election outcomes. While some studies have shown the method to hold a surprising degree of accuracy there has been criticism over the lack of consistency and clarity in the methods used, along with inevitable problems of population bias. In this paper we set out a 'baseline' model for using Twitter as an election forecasting tool that we then apply to the UK 2015 General Election. The paper builds on existing literature by extending the use of Twitter as a forecasting tool to the UK context and identifying its limitations, particularly with regard to its application in a multi-party environment with geographic concentration of power for minor parties.
