We studied a system of polar self-propelled particles (SPPs) on a thin rectangular channel designed into three regions of order-disorder-order. The division of the three regions is made on the basis of the noise SPPs experience in the respective regions. The noise in the two wide region is chosen lower than the critical noise of order-disorder transition and noise in the middle region or interface is higher than the critical noise. This make the geometry of the system analogous to the Josephson Junction (JJ) in solid state physics. Kee** all other parameters fixed, we study the properties of the moving SPPs in the bulk as well as along the interface for different widths of the junction. On increasing interface width, system shows a order-to-disorder transition from coherent moving SPPs in the whole system to the interrupted current for large interface width. Surprisingly, inside the interface we observed the current reversal for intermediate widths of the interface. Such current reversal is due to the strong randomness present inside the interface, that makes the wall of the interface reflecting. Hence Our study give a new interesting collective properties of SPPs at the interface which can be useful to design devices like switch using active agents.

We model a binary mixture of passive and active Brownian particles in two dimensions using the effective interaction between passive particles in the active bath. The activity of active particles and the size ratio of two types of particles are two control parameters in the system. The effective interaction is calculated from the average force on two particles generated by the active particles. The effective interaction can be attractive or repulsive, depending on the system parameters. The passive particles form four distinct structural orders for different system parameters viz; disorder (D), disordered cluster (DC), ordered cluster (OC), and poly-crystalline order (P C). The change in structure is dictated by the change in nature of the effective interaction. We further confirm the four structures using full microscopic simulation of active and passive mixture. Our study is useful to understand the different collective behaviour in non-equilibrium systems.

We consider almost Ricci-Yamabe soliton in the context of certain contact metric manifolds. Firstly, we prove that if the metric $g$ admits an almost $(α,β)$-Ricci-Yamabe soliton with $α\neq 0$ and potential vector field collinear with the Reeb vector field $ξ$ on a complete contact metric manifold with the Reeb vector field $ξ$ as an eigenvector of the Ricci operator, then the manifold is compact Einstein Sasakian and the potential vector field is a constant multiple of the Reeb vector field $ξ$. Next, if complete $K$-contact manifold admits gradient Ricci-Yamabe soliton with $α\neq 0$, then it is compact Sasakian and isometric to unit sphere $S^{2n+1}$. Finally, gradient almost Ricci-Yamabe soliton with $α\neq 0$ in non-Sasakian $(k,μ)$-contact metric manifold is assumed and found that $M^3$ is flat and for $n>1$, $M$ is locally isometric to $E^{n+1}\times S^n(4)$ and the soliton vector field is tangential to the Euclidean factor $E^{n+1}$. An illustrative example is given to support the obtained result.

We have calculated coupling constants of a neutral pion with the lowest two nucleon resonances. This includes both the diagonal as well as non-diagonal coupling constants involving a nucleon resonance and a nucleon. For this, we first calculate vacuum-to-pion correlation function of the interpolating fields of two nucleons and then take its matrix elements with respect to a nucleon spinor and/or a nucleon resonance spinor(s). Using different QCD sum rules obtained from different matrix elements we eliminate unwanted coupling constants and solve for the desired ones. This is a simple extension of the projected correlation function approach used in the literature where we use multiple of states involving those of a nucleon and its resonances. We have also checked the stability of our results with respect to variation of different QCD and phenomenological input parameters.

Collection of self-propelled particles (SPPs) exhibit coherent motion and show true long-range order in two-dimensions. Inhomogeneity, in general destroys the usual long-range order of the polar SPPs. We model a system of polar self-propelled particles with inhomogeneous interaction strength or bond disorder. The system is studied near the order-to-disorder transition for different strengths of the disorder. The nature of phase transition changes from discontinuous to continuous type by tuning the strength of the disorder. The bond disorder also enhances the ordering near the transition due to the formation of a homogeneous flock state for the large disorder. It leads to faster information transfer in the system and enhances the system information entropy. Our study gives a new understanding of the effect of intrinsic inhomogeneity in the self-propelled particle system.

We numerically study the dynamics and the phases of self-propelled disk-shaped particles of different sizes with soft repulsive potential in two dimensions. Size diversity is introduced by the polydispersity index (PDI) $ε$, which is the width of the uniform distribution of the particle's radius. The self-propulsion speed of the particles controls the activity $v$. We observe enhanced dynamics for large size diversity among the particles. We calculate the effective diffusion coefficient $D_{eff}$ in the steady-state. The system exhibits four distinct phases, jammed phase with small $D_{eff}$ for small activity and liquid phase with enhanced $D_{eff}$ for large activity. The number fluctuation is larger and smaller than the equilibrium limit in the liquid and jammed phase, respectively. Further, the jammed phase is of two types: solid-jammed and liquid jammed for small and large PDI. Whereas the liquid phase is called motility induced phase separation (MIPS)-liquid for small PDI and for large PDI, we find enhanced diffusivity and call it the {\em pure liquid} phase. The system is studied for three packing densities $φ$, and the response of the system for polydispersity is the same for all $φ$'s. Our study can help understand the behavior of cells of various sizes in a tissue, artificial self-driven granular particles, or living organisms of different sizes in a dense environment.

Self-cleaning surfaces often make use of superhydrophobic coatings that repel water. Here, we report a hydrophobic Si nanospring surface, that effectively suppresses wetting by repelling water droplets. We investigated the dynamic response of Si nanospring arrays fabricated by glancing angle deposition. The vertical standing nanospring arrays were approximately 250 nm tall and 60 nm apart, which allowed the droplets to rebound within a few milliseconds after contact. Amazingly, the morphology of the nanostructures influences the impact dynamics. The rebound time and coefficient of restitution were also found to be higher for Si nanosprings than vertical SI columns. It has been proposed that the restoring force of the Si nanosprings may be responsible for the water droplet rebound and can be explained by considering the droplet/nanospring surface as a coupled spring system. These nanospring surfaces may find applications in self-cleaning windows, liquid-repellent exteriors, glass panels of solar cells, and antifouling agents for roof tiling.

In this study, we introduce a minimal model for a collection of polar self-propelled particles (SPPs) on a two-dimensional substrate where each particle has a different ability to interact with its neighbours. The SPPs interact through a short-range alignment interaction and interaction strength of each particle is obtained from a uniform distribution. Moreover, the volume exclusion among the SPPs is taken care of by introducing a repulsive interaction among them. We characterise the ordered steady state and kinetics of the system for different strengths of the disorder. We find that the presence of the disorder does not destroy the usual long-range ordering in the system. To our surprise, we note that the density clustering is enhanced in the presence of the disorder. Moreover, the disorder leads to the formation of a random network of different interaction strengths, which makes the alignment weaker and it results in the slower dynamics. Hence, the disorder leads to more cohesion among the particles. Furthermore, we note that the kinetics of the ordered state remains unaffected in the presence of the disorder. Size of orientationally ordered domains and density clusters grow with time with dynamic growth exponents $z_{o} \sim 2$ and $z_ρ \sim 4$, respectively.

A collection of self-propelled particles (SPPs) shows coherent motion and exhibits a true long range ordered (LRO) state in two dimensions. Various studies show that the presence of spatial inhomogeneities can destroy the usual long-range ordering in the system. However, the effects of inhomogeneity due to the intrinsic properties of the particles are barely addressed. In this paper we consider a collection of polar SPPs moving with inhomogeneous speed (IS) on a two dimensional substrate, which can arise due to varying physical strength of the individual particle. To our surprise, the IS not only preserves the usual long-range ordering present in the homogeneous speed models but also induces faster ordering in the system. Furthermore, The response of the flock to an external perturbation is also faster, compared to Vicsek like model systems, due to the frequent update of neighbors of each SPP in the presence of the IS. Therefore, our study shows that the IS can help in faster information transfer in the moving flock.

Particles moves along their heading direction with {\it variable speed} and interact through short range alignment interaction. A variable speed parameter $γ>0$ is introduced such that for $γ=0.0$ model reduces to {\it constant speed} Vicsek's model.
We mix the particles with two different $γ$'s and study the steady state behavior of the mixture for different choice of $γ$'s and noise strength. One of the $γ$ is kept fixed to $1.0$ and another one is varied from small $0.0$ to larger values $8.0$. Properties of system is characterise by two types of order parameters (i) orientation order parameter, which is a measure of ordering in the system and (ii) density order parameter, which measures the phase separation is the system. For all set of $γ$'s, system shows a transition from disorder-to-ordered state on the variation of noise strength. The nature of transition and critical noise is independent of value of $γ$, which is also supported from coarse-grained hydrodynamic study. On the variation of system parameters, ($γ$'s, $η$), we find four distinct phases, (i) ordered phase separated, (ii) ordered mixed, (iii) disordered mixed and (iv) disordered phase segragated. Our study shade light on different phases of mixture of different types of active particles.

Twitter is recently being used during crises to communicate with officials and provide rescue and relief operation in real time. The geographical location information of the event, as well as users, are vitally important in such scenarios. The identification of geographic location is one of the challenging tasks as the location information fields, such as user location and place name of tweets are not reliable. The extraction of location information from tweet text is difficult as it contains a lot of non-standard English, grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, non-standard abbreviations, and so on. This research aims to extract location words used in the tweet using a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) based model. We achieved the exact matching score of 0.929, Hamming loss of 0.002, and $F_1$-score of 0.96 for the tweets related to the earthquake. Our model was able to extract even three- to four-word long location references which is also evident from the exact matching score of over 92\%. The findings of this paper can help in early event localization, emergency situations, real-time road traffic management, localized advertisement, and in various location-based services.

The product reviews are posted online in the hundreds and even in the thousands for some popular products. Handling such a large volume of continuously generated online content is a challenging task for buyers, sellers, and even researchers. The purpose of this study is to rank the overwhelming number of reviews using their predicted helpfulness score. The helpfulness score is predicted using features extracted from review text data, product description data and customer question-answer data of a product using random-forest classifier and gradient boosting regressor. The system is made to classify the reviews into low or high quality by random-forest classifier. The helpfulness score of the high-quality reviews is only predicted using gradient boosting regressor. The helpfulness score of the low-quality reviews is not calculated because they are never going to be in the top k reviews. They are just added at the end of the review list to the review-listing website. The proposed system provides fair review placement on review listing pages and making all high-quality reviews visible to customers on the top. The experimental results on data from two popular Indian e-commerce websites validate our claim, as 3-4 new high-quality reviews are placed in the top ten reviews along with 5-6 old reviews based on review helpfulness. Our findings indicate that inclusion of features from product description data and customer question-answer data improves the prediction accuracy of the helpfulness score.

An enhancement in LIBS signal has been observed ~2 times in the case of magnetic confinement. Combination of magnetic and spatial confinement provide enhancement by an order of magnitude. Theoretical analysis of the decelerated plasma has been found in agreement with the experimental observations. The enhancement in LIBS signal is found dependent on the efficiency of plasma confinement as well as on the time duration of laser. The saturation in LIBS signal at higher laser intensity is found correlated with electron-ion collision frequency as well as on the dynamics and instability of plasma plume. In our study we are going to design a computer vision algorithm for grading of potatoes according to the greening of the surface color of potato. The ratio of green pixels to the total number of pixels of the potato surface is found. The higher the ratio the worse is the potato. First the image is converted into serial data and then processing is done in RGB colour space. Green part of the potato is also shown by de-serializing the output. We have performed a numerical analysis of branching ratios and direct CP-asymmetries of B meson decays to two light pseudoscalar nonets with deltaS=1 using QCD improved factorization. The parameters related to B meson including its semileptonic form factors, strange quark mass and the CKM phase angle have been varied over a limited range and phenomenological parameters used to parameterize divergences in hard spectator scattering and weak annihilation have been varied over a wide range simultaneously with an aim to achieve a fit of branching ratios and some direct CP-asymmetries. A good fit for the majority of the parameters has been achieved indicating that the standard model is quite satisfactory in accounting for these processes.

Present work investigates the magnetic and electronic structure of MgO/Fe/MgO/Fe/Co/Au multilayer stack grown on Si(100) substrates by electron beam evaporation method. X-ray diffraction study depicts polycrystalline nature of the multilayers. Results obtained from vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) and near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectra (NEXAFS) at Fe & Co L- and Mg & O K-edges are applied to understand the magnetic and electronic properties of this stack and its interface properties. While the spectral features of Fe L-edge spectrum recorded by surface sensitive total electron yield (TEY) mode shows the formation of FeOx at the Fe/MgO interface, the bulk sensitive total fluorescence yield (TFY), shows Fe in metallic nature. Co L-edge spectrum reveals the presence of metallic nature of cobalt in both TEY and TFY modes. Above results are well correlated with X-ray reflectometry.

We have previously reported a Bayesian algorithm for determining the coordinates of points in three-dimensional space from uncertain constraints. This method is useful in the determination of biological molecular structure. It is limited, however, by the requirement that the uncertainty in the constraints be normally distributed. In this paper, we present an extension of the original algorithm that allows constraint uncertainty to be represented as a mixture of Gaussians, and thereby allows arbitrary constraint distributions. We illustrate the performance of this algorithm on a problem drawn from the domain of molecular structure determination, in which a multicomponent constraint representation produces a much more accurate solution than the old single component mechanism. The new mechanism uses mixture distributions to decompose the problem into a set of independent problems with unimodal constraint uncertainty. The results of the unimodal subproblems are periodically recombined using Bayes' law, to avoid combinatorial explosion. The new algorithm is particularly suited for parallel implementation.

We show an alternative way of representing a Bayesian belief network by sensitivities and probability distributions. This representation is equivalent to the traditional representation by conditional probabilities, but makes dependencies between nodes apparent and intuitively easy to understand. We also propose a QR matrix representation for the sensitivities and/or conditional probabilities which is more efficient, in both memory requirements and computational speed, than the traditional representation for computer-based implementations of probabilistic inference. We use sensitivities to show that for a certain class of binary networks, the computation time for approximate probabilistic inference with any positive upper bound on the error of the result is independent of the size of the network. Finally, as an alternative to traditional algorithms that use conditional probabilities, we describe an exact algorithm for probabilistic inference that uses the QR-representation for sensitivities and updates probability distributions of nodes in a network according to messages from the neighbors.

Although probabilistic inference in a general Bayesian belief network is an NP-hard problem, computation time for inference can be reduced in most practical cases by exploiting domain knowledge and by making approximations in the knowledge representation. In this paper we introduce the property of similarity of states and a new method for approximate knowledge representation and inference which is based on this property. We define two or more states of a node to be similar when the ratio of their probabilities, the likelihood ratio, does not depend on the instantiations of the other nodes in the network. We show that the similarity of states exposes redundancies in the joint probability distribution which can be exploited to reduce the computation time of probabilistic inference in networks with multiple similar states, and that the computational complexity in the networks with exponentially many similar states might be polynomial. We demonstrate our ideas on the example of a BN2O network -- a two layer network often used in diagnostic problems -- by reducing it to a very close network with multiple similar states. We show that the answers to practical queries converge very fast to the answers obtained with the original network. The maximum error is as low as 5% for models that require only 10% of the computation time needed by the original BN2O model.

The Einstein field equations are solved explicitly by using a law of variation for the Hubble parameter, which yields a constant value of deceleration parameter. Physical and kinematical parameters of the models are discussed. The models are found to be compatible with the results of astronomical observations.

We study the $η$NN coupling constant using the method of QCD sum rules starting from the vacuum-to-eta correlation function of the interpolating fields of two nucleons. The matrix element of this correlation has been taken with respect to nucleon spinors to avoid unwanted pole contribution. The SU(3)-flavor symmetry breaking effects have been accounted for via the $η$-mass, s-quark mass and eta decay constant to leading order. Out of the four sum rules obtained by taking the ratios of the two sum rules in conjunction with the two sum rules in nucleon mass, three are found to give mutually consistent results. We find the SU(3) breaking effects significant, as large as 50% of the SU(3) symmetric part.

We consider the problem of rate allocation among multiple simultaneous video streams sharing multiple heterogeneous access networks. We develop and evaluate an analytical framework for optimal rate allocation based on observed available bit rate (ABR) and round-trip time (RTT) over each access network and video distortion-rate (DR) characteristics. The rate allocation is formulated as a convex optimization problem that minimizes the total expected distortion of all video streams. We present a distributed approximation of its solution and compare its performance against H-infinity optimal control and two heuristic schemes based on TCP-style additive-increase-multiplicative decrease (AIMD) principles. The various rate allocation schemes are evaluated in simulations of multiple high-definition (HD) video streams sharing multiple access networks. Our results demonstrate that, in comparison with heuristic AIMD-based schemes, both media-aware allocation and H-infinity optimal control benefit from proactive congestion avoidance and reduce the average packet loss rate from 45% to below 2%. Improvement in average received video quality ranges between 1.5 to 10.7 dB in PSNR for various background traffic loads and video playout deadlines. Media-aware allocation further exploits its knowledge of the video DR characteristics to achieve a more balanced video quality among all streams.

The processing, computation and memory requirements posed by emerging mobile broadband services require adaptive memory management and prefetching techniques at the mobile terminals for satisfactory application performance and sustained device battery lifetime. In this work we investigate a scenario where tasks with varied computational requirements are fetched by a mobile device from a central server over an error prone wireless link. We examine the buffer dynamics at the mobile terminal and the central server under varying wireless channel connectivity and device memory congestion states as variable sizes tasks are executed on the terminal. Our goal is to minimize the latency experienced by these tasks while judiciously utilizing the device buffering capability. We use a dynamic programming framework to model the optimal prefetching policy. We further propose a) a prefetching algorithm Fetch-or- Not (FON), which uses quasi-static assumption on system state to make prefetching decisions, and b) a prefetching policy RFON, which uses randomized approximation to the optimal solution thus obviating the need for dynamic online optimization and substantially reducing the computational complexity. Through performance evaluation under slow and fast fading scenarios we show that proposed algorithms come close to performance of the optimal scheme.

The expansion coefficients in the quark-gluon Fock states have been taken from a recently proposed statistical model. We have also considered two modifications of this model with a view to reduce the contributions of the sea components with higher multiplicities. With certain approximations, we have calculated the quark contributions to the spin of the nucleon, the ratio of the magnetic moments of nucleons, their weak decay constant, and the ratio of SU(3) reduced matrix elements for the axial current. A reasonably close agreement with the corresponding experimental values have been obtained in all the three cases.
