Inverse scattering problems are inherently challenging, given the fact they are ill-posed and nonlinear. This paper presents a powerful deep learning-based approach that relies on generative adversarial networks to accurately and efficiently reconstruct randomly-shaped two-dimensional dielectric objects from amplitudes of multi-frequency scattered electric fields. An adversarial autoencoder (AAE) is trained to learn to generate the scatterer's geometry from a lower-dimensional latent representation constrained to adhere to the Gaussian distribution. A cohesive inverse neural network (INN) framework is set up comprising a sequence of appropriately designed dense layers, the already-trained generator as well as a separately trained forward neural network. The images reconstructed at the output of the inverse network are validated through comparison with outputs from the forward neural network, addressing the non-uniqueness challenge inherent to electromagnetic (EM) imaging problems. The trained INN demonstrates an enhanced robustness, evidenced by a mean binary cross-entropy (BCE) loss of $0.13$ and a structure similarity index (SSI) of $0.90$. The study not only demonstrates a significant reduction in computational load, but also marks a substantial improvement over traditional objective-function-based methods. It contributes both to the fields of machine learning and EM imaging by offering a real-time quantitative imaging approach. The results obtained with the simulated data, for both training and testing, yield promising results and may open new avenues for radio-frequency inverse imaging.

Desire is a set of human aspirations and wishes that comprise verbal and cognitive aspects that drive human feelings and behaviors, distinguishing humans from other animals. Understanding human desire has the potential to be one of the most fascinating and challenging research domains. It is tightly coupled with sentiment analysis and emotion recognition tasks. It is beneficial for increasing human-computer interactions, recognizing human emotional intelligence, understanding interpersonal relationships, and making decisions. However, understanding human desire is challenging and under-explored because ways of eliciting desire might be different among humans. The task gets more difficult due to the diverse cultures, countries, and languages. Prior studies overlooked the use of image-text pairwise feature representation, which is crucial for the task of human desire understanding. In this research, we have proposed a unified multimodal transformer-based framework with image-text pair settings to identify human desire, sentiment, and emotion. The core of our proposed method lies in the encoder module, which is built using two state-of-the-art multimodal transformer models. These models allow us to extract diverse features. To effectively extract visual and contextualized embedding features from social media image and text pairs, we conducted joint fine-tuning of two pre-trained multimodal transformer models: Vision-and-Language Transformer (ViLT) and Vision-and-Augmented-Language Transformer (VAuLT). Subsequently, we use an early fusion strategy on these embedding features to obtain combined diverse feature representations of the image-text pair. This consolidation incorporates diverse information about this task, enabling us to robustly perceive the context and image pair from multiple perspectives.

Recent developments in natural language processing have demonstrated the potential of large language models (LLMs) to improve a range of educational and learning outcomes. Of recent chatbots based on LLMs, ChatGPT and Bard have made it clear that artificial intelligence (AI) technology will have significant implications on the way we obtain and search for information. However, these tools sometimes produce text that is convincing, but often incorrect, known as hallucinations. As such, their use can distort scientific facts and spread misinformation. To counter polarizing responses on these tools, it is critical to provide an overview of such responses so stakeholders can determine which topics tend to produce more contentious responses -- key to develo** targeted regulatory policy and interventions. In addition, there currently exists no annotated dataset of ChatGPT and Bard responses around possibly polarizing topics, central to the above aims. We address the indicated issues through the following contribution: Focusing on highly polarizing topics in the US, we created and described a dataset of ChatGPT and Bard responses. Broadly, our results indicated a left-leaning bias for both ChatGPT and Bard, with Bard more likely to provide responses around polarizing topics. Bard seemed to have fewer guardrails around controversial topics, and appeared more willing to provide comprehensive, and somewhat human-like responses. Bard may thus be more likely abused by malicious actors. Stakeholders may utilize our findings to mitigate misinformative and/or polarizing responses from LLMs

Sound and holistic policy around fatherhood in Singapore may reduce stigma and apprehension around being a parent, critical to improving the nations flagging birth rate. We analyzed 15,705 articles and 56,221 posts to study how fatherhood is framed in Singapore across a range of online platforms (news outlets, parenting forums, Twitter). We used NLP techniques to understand these differences. While fatherhood was framed in a range of ways on the Singaporean online environment, it did not seem that fathers were framed as central to the Singaporean family unit. A strength of our work is how the different techniques we have applied validate each other.

Since the emergence of convolutional neural networks (CNNs), and later vision transformers (ViTs), the common paradigm for model development has always been using a set of identical block types with varying parameters/hyper-parameters. To leverage the benefits of different architectural designs (e.g. CNNs and ViTs), we propose to alternate structurally different types of blocks to generate a new architecture, mimicking how Lego blocks can be assembled together. Using two CNN-based and one SwinViT-based blocks, we investigate three variations to the so-called LegoNet that applies the new concept of block alternation for the segmentation task in medical imaging. We also study a new clinical problem which has not been investigated before, namely the right internal mammary artery (RIMA) and perivascular space segmentation from computed tomography angiography (CTA) which has demonstrated a prognostic value to major cardiovascular outcomes. We compare the model performance against popular CNN and ViT architectures using two large datasets (e.g. achieving 0.749 dice similarity coefficient (DSC) on the larger dataset). We evaluate the performance of the model on three external testing cohorts as well, where an expert clinician made corrections to the model segmented results (DSC>0.90 for the three cohorts). To assess our proposed model for suitability in clinical use, we perform intra- and inter-observer variability analysis. Finally, we investigate a joint self-supervised learning approach to assess its impact on model performance. The code and the pretrained model weights will be available upon acceptance.

The power sector of Bangladesh is presently experiencing essential changes as demand for power services is increasing with rising population and economic development. With a gradual shift from a rigidly centralized structure to a more decentralized and fluid setup, fundamentally because of the enormous advancement of distributed renewable energy sources, the future power system of the nation requires new control strategies to work efficiently and sustainably in the face of evolving conditions and constraints. Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) technology has attributes that meet these prerequisites of modern power systems and has been shown to be effective in dealing with its distributed and complex nature. This is a literature-based feasibility study to explore whether MAS technology is suited to be applied in the context of Bangladesh. For this preliminary paper, we look at the topic from a holistic perspective and conduct a meta-review to curate common applications of Multi-Agent System-based concepts, tools and algorithms on the power and energy sector. We also identify the top challenges of this domain in Bangladesh and connect the potential MAS-based solutions to address each challenge. Our qualitative assessment is motivated to provide a starting point for local researchers eager to experiment with MAS technology for application in Bangladesh.

Here we study the problem of matched record clustering in unsupervised entity resolution. We build upon a state-of-the-art probabilistic framework named the Data Washing Machine (DWM). We introduce a graph-based hierarchical 2-step record clustering method (GDWM) that first identifies large, connected components or, as we call them, soft clusters in the matched record pairs using a graph-based transitive closure algorithm utilized in the DWM. That is followed by breaking down the discovered soft clusters into more precise entity clusters in a hierarchical manner using an adapted graph-based modularity optimization method. Our approach provides several advantages over the original implementation of the DWM, mainly a significant speed-up, increased precision, and overall increased F1 scores. We demonstrate the efficacy of our approach using experiments on multiple synthetic datasets. Our results also provide evidence of the utility of graph theory-based algorithms despite their sparsity in the literature on unsupervised entity resolution.

In this research a novel stochastic gradient descent based learning approach for the radial basis function neural networks (RBFNN) is proposed. The proposed method is based on the q-gradient which is also known as Jackson derivative. In contrast to the conventional gradient, which finds the tangent, the q-gradient finds the secant of the function and takes larger steps towards the optimal solution. The proposed $q$-RBFNN is analyzed for its convergence performance in the context of least square algorithm. In particular, a closed form expression of the Wiener solution is obtained, and stability bounds of the learning rate (step-size) is derived. The analytical results are validated through computer simulation. Additionally, we propose an adaptive technique for the time-varying $q$-parameter to improve convergence speed with no trade-offs in the steady state performance.

Detection and/or partitioning of brain tumors solely with the aid of MR imaging is achieved at the cost of immense time and effort and demands a lot of expertise from engaged personnel. This substantiates the necessity of fabricating an autonomous model brain tumor diagnosis. Our work involves implementing a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) for diagnosing brain tumors from MR images. The dataset used in this paper consists of 253 brain MR images where 155 images are reported to have tumors. Our model can single out the MR images with tumors with an overall accuracy of 96%. The model outperformed the existing conventional methods for the diagnosis of brain tumor in the test dataset (Precision = 0.93, Sensitivity = 1.00, and F1-score = 0.97). Moreover, the proposed model's average precision-recall score is 0.93, Cohen's Kappa 0.91, and AUC 0.95. Therefore, the proposed model can help clinical experts verify whether the patient has a brain tumor and, consequently, accelerate the treatment procedure.

In spite of that inadequate studies have been carried out for analyzing the weather pattern of Bangladesh implementing the artificial neural network. Therefore, in this study, we are implementing a Long Short-term Memory (LSTM) model to forecast the month-wise temperature and rainfall by analyzing 115 years (1901-2015) of weather data of Bangladesh. The LSTM model has shown a mean error of -0.38oC in case of predicting the month-wise temperature for 2 years and -17.64mm in case of predicting the rainfall. This prediction model can help to understand the weather pattern changes as well as studying seasonal diseases of Bangladesh whose outbreaks are dependent on regional temperature and/or rainfall.

The classification of the electrocardiogram (ECG) signal has a vital impact on identifying heart-related diseases. This can ensure the premature finding of heart disease and the proper selection of the patient's customized treatment. However, the detection of arrhythmia is a challenging task to perform manually. This justifies the necessity of a technique for automatic detection of abnormal heart signals. Therefore, our work is based on the classification of five classes of ECG arrhythmic signals from Physionet's MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Dataset. Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) have demonstrated significant success in ECG signal classification. Our proposed model is a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) customized to categorize the ECG signals. Our result testifies that the planned CNN model can successfully categorize arrhythmia with an overall accuracy of 95.2%. The average precision and recall of the proposed model are 95.2% and 95.4%, respectively. This model can effectively be used to detect irregularities of heart rhythm at an early stage.

The central goal of this paper is to establish two commonly available dimensionality reduction (DR) methods i.e. t-distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding (t-SNE) and Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) in Matlab and to observe their application in several datasets. These DR techniques are applied to nine different datasets namely CNAE9, Segmentation, Seeds, Pima Indians diabetes, Parkinsons, Movement Libras, Mammographic Masses, Knowledge, and Ionosphere acquired from UCI machine learning repository. By applying t-SNE and MDS algorithms, each dataset is transformed to the half of its original dimension by eliminating unnecessary features from the datasets. Subsequently, these datasets with reduced dimensions are fed into three supervised classification algorithms for classification. These classification algorithms are K Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Extended Nearest Neighbors (ENN), and Support Vector Machine (SVM). Again, all these algorithms are implemented in Matlab. The training and test data ratios are maintained as ninety percent: ten percent for each dataset. Upon accuracy observation, the efficiency for every dimensionality technique with availed classification algorithms is analyzed and the performance of each classifier is evaluated.

Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM) is the method of detecting an individual device's energy signal from an aggregated energy consumption signature [1]. As existing energy meters provide very little to no information regarding the energy consumption of individual appliances apart from the aggregated power rating, the spotting of individual appliances' energy usages by NILM will not only provide consumers the feedback of appliance-specific energy usage but also lead to the changes of their consumption behavior which facilitate energy conservation. B Neenan et al. [2] have demonstrated that direct individual appliance-specific energy usage signals lead to consumers' behavioral changes which improves energy efficiency by as much as 15%. Upon disaggregation of an energy signal, the signal needs to be classified according to the appropriate appliance. Hence, the goal of this paper is to disaggregate total energy consumption data to individual appliance signature and then classify appliance-specific energy loads using a prominent supervised classification method known as K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN). To perform this operation we have used a publicly accessible dataset of power signals from several houses known as the REDD dataset. Before applying KNN, data is preprocessed for each device. Then KNN is applied to check whether their energy consumption signature is separable or not. KNN is applied with K=5.

The goal of this paper is to observe the variation of accuracies of CNN to classify handwritten digits using various numbers of hidden layers and epochs and to make the comparison between the accuracies. For this performance evaluation of CNN, we performed our experiment using Modified National Institute of Standards and Technology (MNIST) dataset. Further, the network is trained using stochastic gradient descent and the backpropagation algorithm.

Fruit recognition using Deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is one of the most promising applications in computer vision. In recent times, deep learning based classifications are making it possible to recognize fruits from images. However, fruit recognition is still a problem for the stacked fruits on weighing scale because of the complexity and similarity. In this paper, a fruit recognition system using CNN is proposed. The proposed method uses deep learning techniques for the classification. We have used Fruits-360 dataset for the evaluation purpose. From the dataset, we have established a dataset which contains 17,823 images from 25 different categories. The images are divided into training and test dataset. Moreover, for the classification accuracies, we have used various combinations of hidden layer and epochs for different cases and made a comparison between them. The overall performance losses of the network for different cases also observed. Finally, we have achieved the best test accuracy of 100% and a training accuracy of 99.79%.

This paper proposes the implementation of a circuit based simulation for a Solar Photovoltaic (PV) cell in order to get the maximum power output. The model is established based on the mathematical model of the PV module. As the PV cell is used to determine the physical and electrical behavior of the cell corresponding to environmental factors such as temperature and solar irradiance, this paper evaluates thirty years solar irradiation data in United Arab Emirates (UAE), also analyzes the performance parameters of PV cell for several locations. Based on the Shockley diode equation, a solar PV module is presented. However, to analyze the performance parameters, Solarex MSX 120, a typical 120W module is selected. The mathematical model for the chosen module is executed in Matlab. The consequence of this paper reflects the effects of variation of solar irradiation on PV cell within UAE. Conclusively, this paper determines the convenient places for implementing the large scale solar PV modules within UAE.

Tissue classification is one of the significant tasks in the field of biomedical image analysis. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is of great importance in tissue classification especially in the areas of brain tissue classification which is able to recognize anatomical areas of interest such as surgical planning, monitoring therapy, clinical drug trials, image registration, stereotactic neurosurgery, radiotherapy etc. The task of this paper is to implement different unsupervised classification algorithms in ITK and perform tissue classification (white matter, gray matter, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and background of the human brain). For this purpose, 5 grayscale head MRI scans are provided. In order of classifying brain tissues, three algorithms are used. These are: Otsu thresholding, Bayesian classification and Bayesian classification with Gaussian smoothing. The obtained classification results are analyzed in the results and discussion section.

Afterward, VAT is used to investigate the clustering tendency visually, and then in order of checking cluster validation, three types of indices (e.g., PC, DI, and DBI) were used. After observing the clustering algorithms, it was evident that each of them has its limitations; however, PCM is more robust to noise than FCM as in case of FCM a noise point has to be considered as a member of any of the cluster.

Machine learning qualifies computers to assimilate with data, without being solely programmed [1, 2]. Machine learning can be classified as supervised and unsupervised learning. In supervised learning, computers learn an objective that portrays an input to an output hinged on training input-output pairs [3]. Most efficient and widely used supervised learning algorithms are K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Large Margin Nearest Neighbor (LMNN), and Extended Nearest Neighbor (ENN). The main contribution of this paper is to implement these elegant learning algorithms on eleven different datasets from the UCI machine learning repository to observe the variation of accuracies for each of the algorithms on all datasets. Analyzing the accuracy of the algorithms will give us a brief idea about the relationship of the machine learning algorithms and the data dimensionality. All the algorithms are developed in Matlab. Upon such accuracy observation, the comparison can be built among KNN, SVM, LMNN, and ENN regarding their performances on each dataset.
