A new algorithm for time dependent Hamilton Jacobi equations on networks, based on semi Lagrangian scheme, is proposed. It is based on the definition of viscosity solution for this kind of problems recently given in. A thorough convergence analysis, not requiring weak semilimits, is provided. In particular, the check of the supersolution property at the vertices is performed through a dynamical technique which seems new. The scheme is efficient, explicit, allows long time steps, and is suitable to be implemented in a parallel algorithm. We present some numerical tests, showing the advantage in terms of computational cost over the one proposed in [7]

We provide a Lax-Oleinik-type representation formula for solutions of time-dependent Hamilton-Jacobi equations, posed on a network with a rather general geometry, under standard assumptions on the Hamiltonians. It depends on a given initial datum at $t=0$ and a flux limiter at the vertices, which both have to be assigned in order the problem to be uniquely solved. Previous results in the same direction are solely in the frame of junction, namely network with a single vertex. An important step to get the result is to define a suitable action functional and prove existence as well as Lipschitz-continuity of minimizers between two fixed points of the network in a given time, despite the fact that the integrand lacks convexity at the vertices.

In this paper, we introduce and investigate a class P of continuous and periodic functions on R. The class P is defined so that second-order central differences of a function satisfy some concavity-type estimate. Although this definition seems to be independent of nowhere differentiable character, it turns out that each function in P is nowhere differentiable. The class P naturally appear from both a geometrical viewpoint and an analytic viewpoint. In fact, we prove that a function belongs to P if and only if some geometrical inequality holds for a family of parabolas with vertexes on this function. As its application, we study the behavior of the Hamilton Jacobi flow starting from a function in P. A connection between P and some functional series is also investigated. In terms of second-order central differences, we give a necessary and sufficient condition so that a function given by the series belongs to P. This enables us to construct a large number of examples of functions in P through an explicit formula.

We study the asymptotic behavior of the solutions to a family of discounted Hamilton Jacobi equations, posed in the Euclidean N dimensional space, when the discount factor goes to zero. The ambient space being noncompact, we introduce an assumption implying that the Aubry set is compact and there is no degeneracy at infinity. Our approach is to deal not with a single Hamiltonian and Lagrangian but with the whole space of generalized Lagrangians, and then to define via duality minimizing measures associated to both the corresponding ergodic and discounted equations. The asymptotic result follows from convergence properties of these measures with respect to the narrow topology. We use as duality tool a separation theorem in locally convex Hausdorff spaces, we use the strict topology in the space of the bounded generalized Lagrangians as well.

Assuming the Hamiltonians continuous and coercive, we establish a comparison principle and provide representation formulae for solutions. We follow the approach introduced in 11, namely we associate to the differential problem on the network, a discrete functional equation on an abstract underlying graph. We perform some qualitative analysis and single out a distinguished subset of vertices, called lambda Aubry set, which shares some properties of the Aubry set for Eikonal equations on compact manifolds. We finally study the asymptotic behavior of solutions and lambda Aubry sets as the discount factor lambda becomes infinitesimal.

Such a solution is identified, via an Hopf-Lax type formula, once an admissible trace is assigned on an intrinsic boundary. The salient point of our method is to associate to the network an abstract graph, encoding all of the information on the complexity of the network, and to relate the differential equation to a discrete functional equation on the graph. Comparison principles and representation formulae are proven in the supercritical case as well.

It is reminiscent of the corresponding scalar formula, with the relevant difference that it has a stochastic character since it involves, loosely speaking, random switchings between the various associated Lagrangians. We prove that the related value functions are viscosity solutions to the system, and establish existence of minimal random curves under fairly general hypotheses. Adding Tonelli like assumptions on the Hamiltonians, we show differentiability properties of such minimizers, and existence of adjoint random curves. Minimizers and adjoint curves are trajectories of a twisted generalized Hamiltonian dynamics.

We deal with a singularly perturbed optimal control problem with slow and fast variable depending on a parameter ε. We study the asymptotic, as ε goes to 0, of the corresponding value functions, and show convergence, in the sense of weak semilimits, to sub and supersolution of a suitable limit equation containing the effective Hamiltonian. The novelty of our contribution is that no compactness condition are assumed on the fast variable. This generalization requires, in order to perform the asymptotic proce- dure, an accurate qualitative analysis of some auxiliary equations posed on the space of fast variable. The task is accomplished using some tools of Weak KAM theory, and in particular the notion of Aubry set.

We study a class of weakly coupled Hamilton-Jacobi systems with a specific aim to perform a qualitative analysis in the spirit of weak KAM theory. Our main achievement is the definition of a family of related action functionals containing the Lagrangians obtained by duality from the Hamiltonians of the system. We use them to characterize, by means of a suitable estimate, all the subsolutions of the system, and to explicitly represent some subsolutions enjoying an additional maximality property. A crucial step for our analysis is to put the problem in a suitable random frame. Only some basic knowledge of measure theory is required, and the presentation is accessible to readers without background in probability.

We perform a qualitative analysis of the critical equation associated with a stationary ergodic Hamiltonian through a stochastic version of the metric method, where the notion of closed random stationary set, issued from stochastic geometry, plays a major role. Our purpose is to give an appropriate notion of random Aubry set, to single out characterizing conditions for the existence of exact or approximate correctors, and write down representation formulae for them. For the last task, we make use of a Lax--type formula, adapted to the stochastic environment. This material can be regarded as a first step of a long--term project to develop a random analog of Weak KAM Theory, generalizing what done in the periodic case or, more generally, when the underlying space is a compact manifold.

We adapt the metric approach to the study of stationary ergodic Hamilton-Jacobi equations, for which a notion of admissible random (sub)solution is defined. For any level of the Hamiltonian greater than or equal to a distinguished critical value, we define an intrinsic random semidistance and prove that an asymptotic norm does exist. Taking as source region a suitable class of closed random sets, we show that the Lax formula provides admissible subsolutions. This enables us to relate the degeneracies of the critical stable norm to the existence/nonexistence of exact or approximate critical admissible solutions.
