The origin of room temperature (RT) ferromagnetism (FM) in Ni doped ZnO samples are systematically investigated through physical, optical, and magnetic properties of nanostructure, prepared by simple low-temperature wet chemical method. Reitveld refinement of X-ray diffraction pattern displays an increase in lattice parameters with strain relaxation and contraction in Zn/O occupancy ratio by means of Ni-do**. Similarly scanning electron microscope demonstrates modification in the morphology from nanorods to nanoflakes with Ni do**, suggests incorporation of Ni ions in ZnO. More interestingly, XANES (X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy) measurements confirm that Ni is being incorporated in ZnO as Ni2+. EXAFS (Extended X-ray Absorption Fine Structure) analysis reveals that structural disorders near the Zn sites in the ZnO samples upsurges with increasing Ni concentration. Raman spectroscopy exhibits additional defect driven vibrational mode at 275 cm-1, appeared with Ni-doped sample only and the shift with broadening in 580 cm-1 peak, which manifests the presence of the oxygen vacancy (VO) related defects. Moreover, in photoluminescence (PL) spectra we observed peak appears at 524 nm, indicates the presence of singly ionized VO+, which may activate bound magnetic polarons (BMPs) in dilute magnetic semiconductors (DMSs). Magnetization measurements indicate weak ferromagnetism at RT, which rises with increasing Ni consolidation. It is therefore proposed that effect of the Ni-ions as well as the inherent exchange interactions rising from VO+ assist to produce BMPs, which are accountable for the RT-FM in Zn1-xNixO (0<x<0.125) system.

In this study, the effect of Sr- and Ni-do** on microstructural, morphological and sensing properties of ZnO nanorods has been investigated. Nanorods with different Sr and Ni loadings were prepared using a simple wet chemical method and characterized by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and photoluminescence (PL) analysis. XRD data confirmed that Sr- and Ni-doped samples maintainsthe wurtzite hexagonal structure of pure ZnO. However, unlikes Sr, Ni do** modifies the nanorod morphology, increases the surface area (SA) and decreases the ratio of IUV/Igreen photoluminescence peak to a greater extent. Sensing tests were performed on thick films resistive planar devices for monitoring CO and CO2, as indicators of indoor air quality. The effect of the operating temperature, nature and loading of dopant on the sensibility and selectivity of the fabricated sensors towards these two harmful gases were investigated. The gas sensing characteristics of Ni- and Sr-doped ZnO based sensors showed a remarkable enhancement (i. e. the response increased and shifted towards lower temperature for both gases) compared to ZnO-based one, demonstrating that these ZnO nanostructures are promising to fabricate sensor devices for monitoring indoor air quality.

Furthermore, we also show that the optical bandgap measured by UVVis and photo luminescence spectroscopic, continuously red shift with increasing Ni do** concentration. Si doped ZnO has been reported to be a better conductor than pure ZnO. It is reported that carrier density increases and hence conductivity increases. However, the effect on optical transmission is yet not clear until our recent report [1]. Zn1-xSixO for x= 0, 0.013, 0.020 and 0.027 have been synthesized using sol-gel method (a citric acid-glycerol route) followed by solid state sintering. We found that there is a decrease in defect states due to Si do**. The correlation of strain to the decrement in vacancy sites is discussed in this report. In modern electronics and solar cell fabrication, transparent conductive oxides (TCOs) are important components which conduct electrically without absorbing visible light. Known TCOs are extremely costly and are composed of non-abundant elements. Search for new ecofriendly, cheap and sustainable TCOs has been a recent research of attraction. Kee** in mind that most solar cells are exposed to natural conditions, the humidity tolerance becomes a determining factor. We report that sensitivity to moisture decreases drastically while the conductivity and optical transparency increases with do**. The reduction of strain and improvement of transport properties results in increased conductivity of Si doped ZnO pellets, tempting us to envisage this material as a probable alternate TCO.

The observed shift in the Fe mode (B1g) for SmFeAsO0.65 is ~ 1.4 % and lower in case of SmFeAsO0.77H0.12, which is ~ 0.65 %, attributed to the lower percentage of isotopic substitution in case of SmFeAsO0.77H0.12. The vortex lattice in a Type II superconductor provides a versatile model system to investigate the order-disorder transition in a periodic medium in the presence of random pinning. Here, using scanning tunnelling spectroscopy in a weakly pinned Co0.0075NbSe2 single crystal, we show that at low temperatures, the vortex lattice in a 3-dimensional superconductor disorders in two steps across the peak effect. At the onset of the peak effect, the equilibrium Bragg glass transforms into an orientational glass through the proliferation of dislocations. At a higher field, the dislocations dissociate into isolated disclination giving rise to an amorphous vortex glass. We also show the existence of a variety of additional non-equilibrium metastable states, which can be accessed through different thermomagnetic cycling.

The breakdown of crystalline order in a disordered background connects to some of the most challenging problems in condensed matter physics. For a superconducting vortex lattice, the equilibrium state in the presence of impurities is predicted to be a "Bragg glass" (BG), where the local crystalline order is maintained everywhere and yet the global positional order decays algebraically. Here, using scanning tunnelling spectroscopy (STS) we image the vortex lattice in a weakly pinned NbSe2 single crystal. We present direct evidence that the ordered state of the VL is a BG, consisting of a large number of degenerate metastable states, which is a hallmark of a glassy state. These results are a significant step towards understanding the disordering of a lattice under the influence of quenched random disorder with a direct impact on various fields, including charge density waves, colloidal crystals and self-organised periodic structures on a substrate.

Recently, a very rich phase diagram has been obtained for an iron-based superconductor Ca4Al2O6Fe2(As1-xPx)2. It has been revealed that nodeless (x=0) and nodal (x = 1) superconductivity are separated by an antiferromagnetic phase. Here we study the origin of this peculiar phase diagram using a five orbital model constructed from first principles band calculation, and applying the fluctuation exchange approximation assuming spin fluctuation mediated pairing. Based on the calculation results, we propose a scenario where the frustration in momentum space degrades superconductivity in the intermediate x regime, while antiferromangetism takes place due to a very good nesting. In order to see whether the present theoretical scenario is consistent with the actual nature of the competition between superconductivity and antiferromagnetism, we also perform hydrostatic pressure experiment for Ca4Al2O6Fe2(As1-xPx)2. In the intermediate x regime where antiferromagnetism occurs at ambient pressure, applying hydrostatic pressure smears out the antiferromagnetic transition, but superconductivity does not take place. This supports our scenario that superconductivity is suppressed by the momentum space frustration in the intermediate x regime, apart from the presence of the antiferromangnetism.

It is demonstrated that the AFM order takes place under a condition of 1.32Å$\le h_{Pn} \le$1.42Å, which is also the case for other Fe-pnictides with the Fe$^{2+}$ state in (Fe$Pn$)$^{-}$ layers. This novel phase evolution with the variation in $h_{Pn}$ points to the importance of electron correlation for the emergence of SC as well as AFM order.

The measurement of the nuclear-spin lattice-relaxation rate 75(1/T1) has revealed that the nodeless bulk superconductivity takes place at Tc=50 K while antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations (AFSFs) develop moderately in the normal state. These features are consistently described by the multiple fully-gapped s_\pm-wave model based on the Fermi-surface (FS) nesting. Incorporating the theory based on band calculations, we propose that the reason that Tc=50 K in Y0.95La0.051111 is larger than Tc=28 K in La1111 is that the FS multiplicity is maximized, and hence the FS nesting condition is better than that in La1111.

Below To, anomalous softening of the mode frequency and a large decrease by ~ 10 cm-1 in the linewidth is observed. These precursor effects at T0 (~ 2Tc) are attributed to significant superconducting fluctuations, possibly enhanced due to reduced dimensionality arising from weaked coupling between the well separated (~ 15 Å) Fe-As layers in the unit cell. A large blue-shift of the mode frequency between 300 K to 60 K (~7%) indicates strong spin-phonon coupling in this superconductor.

We have performed an angle-resolved photoemission study of the hole-overdoped iron pnictide superconductor KFe2As2, which shows a low Tc of ~4 K. Most of the observed Fermi surfaces show nearly two-dimensional shapes, while a band near the Fermi level shows a strong dispersion along the kz direction and forms a small three-dimensional hole pocket centered at the Z point, as predicted by band-structure calculation. However, hole Fermi surfaces of yz and zx orbital character centered at the Γpoint of the two-dimensional Brillouin zone are smaller than those predicted by the calculation while the other hole Fermi surfaces of xy orbital character is much larger. Clover-shaped hole Fermi surfaces around the corner of the 2D BZ are also larger than those predicted by the calculation. These observations are consistent with the de Haas-van Alphen measurement and indicate orbital-dependent electron correlation effects. The effective masses of the energy bands show moderate to strong enhancement, partly due to electron correlation and partly due to energy shifts from the calculated band structure.

We present the layer-number dependence of AFM and SC phase diagrams in hole-doped cuprates, where pc for n-layered compounds, pc(n), increases from pc(1) ~ 0.02 in LSCO or pc(2) ~ 0.05 in YBCO to pc(5) ~ 0.11. The variation of pc(n) is attributed to interlayer magnetic coupling, which becomes stronger with increasing n. In addition, we focus on the ground-state phase diagram of CuO2 planes, where AFM metallic states in slightly doped Mott insulators change into the uniformly mixed phase of AFM and SC and into simple d-wave SC states. The maximum Tc exists just outside the quantum critical hole density, at which AFM moments on a CuO2 plane collapse at the ground state, indicating an intimate relationship between AFM and SC. These characteristics of the ground state are accounted for by the Mott physics based on the t-J model; the attractive interaction of high-Tc SC, which raises Tc as high as 160 K, is an in-plane superexchange interaction ** (~ 0.12 eV), and the large ** binds electrons of opposite spins between neighboring sites. It is the Coulomb repulsive interaction U ~ (> 6 eV) between Cu-3d electrons that plays a central role in the physics behind high-Tc phenomena.

We report 75As-nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) studies on (Ca_4Al_2O_{6-y})(Fe_2As_2) with Tc=27K, which unravel unique normal-state properties and point to unconventional nodeless superconductivity (SC). Measurement of nuclear-spin-relaxation rate 1/T_1 has revealed a significant development of two dimensional (2D) antiferromagnetic (AFM) spin fluctuations down to Tc, in association with the fact that FeAs layers with the smallest As-Fe-As bond angle are well separated by thick perovskite-type blocking layer. Below Tc, the temperature dependence of 1/T_1 without any trace of the coherence peak is well accounted for by an s(+-)-wave multiple gaps model. From the fact that Tc=27K in this compound is comparable to Tc=28K in the optimally-doped LaFeAsO_{1-y} in which AFM spin fluctuations are not dominant, we remark that AFM spin fluctuations are not a unique factor for enhancing Tc among existing Fe-based superconductors, but a condition for optimizing SC should be addressed from the lattice structure point of view.

It is demonstrated that AFM and SC uniformly coexist in three-layered compounds as well as in four- and five-layered ones. The critical hole density p_c for the long range AFM order is determined as p_c ~ 0.075, which is larger than p_c ~ 0.02 and 0.055 in single- and bi-layered compounds, and smaller than p_c ~ 0.08-0.09 and 0.10-0.11 in four- and five-layered compounds, respectively. This variation of p_c is attributed to the magnetic interlayer coupling which becomes stronger as the stacking number of CuO_2 layers increases; that is, the uniform coexistence of AFM and SC is a universal phenomenon in underdoped regions when a magnetic interlayer coupling is strong enough to stabilize an AFM ordering. In addition, we highlight an unusual pseudogap behavior in three-layered compounds -- the gap behavior in low-energy magnetic excitations collapses in an underdoped region where the ground state is the AFM-SC mixed phase.

This is the model of BCS type with two attractive interactions, and this assumption is the characteristic of the BCS approximation. The claim "the integration limits have been modified such that the AF channel mediated pairing sets in where the ph-channel pairing terminates and is limited at an energy given by ω_j=ω_{AF}" in the Comment is wrong. We describe the model and the method to solve the gap equation in more detail.

We report that planar CuO_2 hole densities in high-T_c cuprates are consistently determined by the Cu-NMR Knight shift. In single- and bi-layered cuprates, it is demonstrated that the spin part of the Knight shift K_s(300 K) at room temperature monotonically increases with the hole density $p$ from underdoped to overdoped regions, suggesting that the relationship of K_s(300 K) vs. p is a reliable measure to determine p. The validity of this K_s(300 K)-p relationship is confirmed by the investigation of the p-dependencies of hyperfine magnetic fields and of spin susceptibility for single- and bi-layered cuprates with tetragonal symmetry. Moreover, the analyses are compared with the NMR data on three-layered Ba_2Ca_2Cu_3O_6(F,O)_2, HgBa_2Ca_2Cu_3O_{8+delta}, and five-layered HgBa_2Ca_4Cu_5O_{12+delta}, which suggests the general applicability of the K_s(300 K)-p relationship to multilayered compounds with more than three CuO_2 planes. We remark that the measurement of K_s(300 K) enables us to separately estimate p for each CuO_2 plane in multilayered compounds, where doped hole carriers are inequivalent between outer CuO_2 planes and inner CuO_2 planes.

The zero-field Cu-NMR study has revealed that AFM moments at Cu sites are 0.14 mu_B at outer CuO_2 layers and 0.20 mu_B at inner ones. We remark that an intimate coupling exists between the AFM state and the SC order parameter below T_c = 52 K; the spin alignment in the AFM state is presumably changed in the SC-AFM mixed state.

We reexamine the novel phase diagrams of antiferromagnetism (AFM) and high-Tc$ superconductivity (HTSC) for a disorder-free CuO$_2$ plane based on an evaluation of local hole density ($p$) by site-selective Cu-NMR studies on multilayered copper oxides. Multilayered systems provide us with the opportunity to research the characteristics of the disorder-free CuO$_2$ plane. The site-selective NMR is the best and the only tool used to extract layer-dependent characteristics. Consequently, we have concluded that the uniform mixing of AFM and SC is a general property inherent to a single CuO$_2$ plane in an underdoped regime of HTSC. The $T$=0 phase diagram of AFM constructed here is in quantitative agreement with the theories in a strong correlation regime which is unchanged even with mobile holes. This {\it Mott physics} plays a vital role for mediating the Cooper pairs to make $T_c$ of HTSC very high. By contrast, we address from extensive NMR studies on electron-doped iron-oxypnictides La1111 compounds that the increase in $T_c$ is not due to the development of AFM spin fluctuations, but because the structural parameters, such as the bond angle $α$ of the FeAs$_4$ tetrahedron and the a-axis length, approach each optimum value. Based on these results, we propose that a stronger correlation in HTSC than in FeAs-based superconductors may make $T_c$ higher significantly.

We report an 75As-nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) study on heavily electron-doped LaFeAsO_1-xF_x(La1111) with Tc=5 K. Nuclear spin relaxation rate (1/T1) measurement has revealed that a Hebel-Slichter (HS) peak partially recovers in heavily electron-overdoped regimes where the nesting condition of hole and electron Fermi surfaces(FSs) becomes significantly worse. This is in contrast to previous results reported in optimally doped La1111 with Tc=28 K where a lack of the HS peak was reported. It indicates that the interband scattering between the hole and electron FSs is strongly suppressed by an almost vanishing hole FS through the heavily electron-overdo**. Our findings strongly suggest that the sign reversal of the gap functions on the different FSs, that is, s(+-)-wave state is realized in La1111 compounds. We remark that interband scattering on well-nested FSs is essential for stabilizing the s(+-)-wave state and enhancing the Tc up to 28 K in LaFeAsO-based superconductors.

In La1111H, the SC gap and T_c also increase slightly even though a decrease in carrier density and some disorders are significantly introduced. We report the 75As nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) and specific heat measurements of the heavily hole-doped superconductor KFe2As2 (Tc = 3.5 K). The spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 in the superconducting state exhibits quite gradual temperature dependence with no coherence peak below Tc. The quasi-particle specific heat C_QP/T shows small specific heat jump which is about 30% of electronic specific heat coefficient just below Tc. In addition, it suggests the existence of low-energy quasi-particle excitation at the lowest measurement temperature T = 0.4 K \simeq Tc/10. These temperature dependence of 1/T1 and C_QP/T can be explained by multiple nodal superconducting gap scenario rather than multiple fully-gapped s_\pm-wave one within simple gap analysis.

We have performed an angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) study of the undoped and electron-doped iron pnictides BaFe2\_{-x}CoxAs2 (Ba122) (x=0, 0.14) and studied the Fermi surfaces (FSs) and band dispersions near the Fermi level. The FS sheets we observed are consistent with the shrinkage of the hole-like pockets around the Brillouin Zone (BZ) center and the expansion of the electron pockets around the BZ corner in the electron-doped compound as compared to the undoped parent compound. Band dispersions and FSs around the BZ center strongly depend on the photon energy, indicating the three-dimensional (3D) electronic structure. This observation suggests that the antiferromagnetism and superconductivity in the pnictides may have to be considered including the orbital-dependent 3D electronic structure, where FS nesting is not necessarily strong.

We present $^{57}$Fe-NMR measurements of the novel normal and superconducting-state characteristics of the iron-arsenide superconductor Ba$_{0.6}$K$_{0.4}$Fe$_2$As$_2$ ($T_c$ = 38 K). In the normal state, the measured Knight shift and nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $(1/T_1)$ demonstrate the development of wave-number ($q$)-dependent spin fluctuations, except at $q$ = 0, which may originate from the nesting across the disconnected Fermi surfaces. In the superconducting state, the spin component in the $^{57}$Fe-Knight shift decreases to almost zero at low temperatures, evidencing a spin-singlet superconducting state. The $^{57}$Fe-$1/T_1$ results are totally consistent with a $s^\pm$-wave model with multiple full gaps, regardless of do** with either electrons or holes.

We report systematic 57Fe-NMR and 75As-NMR/NQR studies on an underdoped sample (T_c=20 K), an optimally doped sample (T_c=28 K), and an overdoped sample (T_c=22 K) of oxygen-deficient iron (Fe)-based oxypnictide superconductor LaFeAsO_{1-y}$. A microscopic phase separation between superconducting domains and magnetic domains is shown to take place in the underdoped sample, indicating a local inhomogeneity in association with the density distribution of oxygen deficiencies. As a result, 1/T_1T in the normal state of the superconducting domain decreases significantly upon cooling at both the Fe and As sites regardless of the electron-do** level in LaFeAsO_{1-y}. On the basis of this result, we claim that $1/T_1T$ is not always enhanced by antiferromagnetic fluctuations close to an antiferromagnetic phase in the underdoped superconducting sample. This contrasts with the behavior in hole-doped Ba_{0.6}K_{0.4}Fe2As2(T_c= 38 K), which exhibits a significant increase in $1/T_1T$ upon cooling. We remark that the crucial difference between the normal-state properties of LaFeAsO_{1-y} and Ba_{0.6}K_{0.4}Fe2As2 originates from the fact that the relevant Fermi surface topologies are differently modified depending on whether electrons or holes are doped into the FeAs layers.

We report Cu-NMR/NQR and F-NMR studies on the multilayered high-T_c copper oxides Ba_2Ca_{n-1}Cu_nO_{2n}F_2 with n=2,3,4, where n is the number of CuO_2 planes. It is revealed that bi-layered Ba_2CaCu_2O_4F_2 is an underdoped superconductor with hole carriers, which are introduced into CuO_2 planes by an unexpected deviation from the nominal content of apical fluorines. In a previous paper, we proposed a self-do** mechanism as the origin of carrier do** in n=3 and n=4; in the mechanism, electrons are transferred from the inner CuO_2 plane (IP) to the outer one (OP). However, since it has been found that the bi-layered compound is hole doped, we have reexamined the superconducting and magnetic properties in n=3 and n=4 by Cu-NMR/NQR and F-NMR. The extensive NMR studies have confirmed that the apical-fluorine compounds are not self-doped but hole-doped, and that antiferromagnetism (AFM) and superconductivity (SC) coexist in a single CuO_2 plane. In n=4, the AFM ordering occurs at T_N = 80 K, well above T_c=55 K, where the respective AFM moments are M_AFM=0.11 mu_B and 0.18 mu_B at the OP and the IP. In n=3, on the other hand, the underdoped single IP exhibits a spontaneous moment M_AFM=0.12 mu_B at low temperatures and a peak in the nuclear-spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T_1 of F at T_N=23 K, much lower than T_c = 76 K. We note that the increase in the number of IPs from one to two leads to an increase in T_N due to strengthening the interlayer coupling, although the do** levels for both compounds are almost comparable. The present results strongly suggest that the uniform mixing of AFM and SC is a general property inherent to a single CuO_2 plane in the underdoped regime for hole-do**.

The substitution of oxygen for fluorine at the apical site increases the carrier density (N_h) and T_c from 55 K up to 102 K. The NMR measurements reveal that antiferromagnetic order, which can uniformly coexist with superconductivity, exists up to N_h = 0.15, which is somewhat smaller than N_h = 0.17 being the quantum critical point (QCP) for five-layered compounds. The fact that the QCP for the four-layered compounds moves to a region of lower carrier density than for five-layered ones ensures that the decrease in the number of CuO_2 layers makes an interlayer magnetic coupling weaker.

The spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 in the normal state reflects the existence of a large two-dimensional antiferromagnetic spin fluctuation. The 1/T1 in the superconducting state down to the lowest measurement temperature T varies close to T^3. In addition, it exhibits no coherence peak just below Tc. This shows a T dependence similar to those of other iron pnictides.

It is found out that the synthesis pressure is the most important parameter for synthesizing single-phase samples, in particular for the heavier Ln?s, such as Tb and Dy. The lattice parameters systematically decrease with the atomic number of Ln, reflecting the shrinkage of Ln ionic radius. For the lighter Ln?s (La, Ce, Pr, Nd), Tc increases monotonously with decreasing the lattice parameters from 26K for Ln=La to 54K for Ln=Nd, then stays at the constant value around 53K for the heavier counterpart (Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb and Dy). The results suggest the intimate relationship between the crystal structural parameters and the superconductivity on the one hand, as well as the possible existence of the inherent maximum Tc on the other, which is located around 50 K in the LnFeAsO based materials.

All these events below $T_c$ are consistently argued in terms of the extended s$_{\pm}$-wave pairing with a sign reversal of the order parameter among Fermi surfaces. In the normal state, we found the remarkable decrease of $1/T_1T$ upon cooling for both the Fe and As sites, which originates from the decrease of low-energy spectral weight of spin fluctuations over whole ${\bm q}$ space upon cooling below room temperature. Such behavior has never been observed for other strongly correlated superconductors where an antiferromagnetic interaction plays a vital role in mediating the Cooper pairing.

The Fe-based Oxypnicide superconductors have generated a huge amount of interest; they are a high temperature superconductor, with a Tc of 55K, but do not have the two dimensional copper oxygen layer that was thought essential for superconductivity at these high temperatures. Initial studies have hinted towards the possibility of a spin density wave (SDW) in these compounds and how they could play an important role in the superconductivity. SDW's occur at low temperatures in low-dimensional materials with strong electron correlations or in metals with a high density of states at the Fermi surface. A transition to the SDW state has many similarities to the superconducting transition, driven by the condensation energy with an energy gap opening, and in many materials the SDW state occurs adjacent in the phase diagram to the superconducting state. In these materials it is believed that electron do** suppresses the SDW instability allowing superconductivity to emerge. In this paper we report on the first direct experimental evidence of a SDW in the LaFeAsO parent compound as observed with inelastic neutron scattering. We show that these excitation derive from a two-dimensional Fermi surface nesting with a nesting vector of (π,π,0).
