We present new microscopic effective shell-model interactions in the valence sd shell, obtained from the modern Daejeon16 nucleon-nucleon potential using no-core shell-model (NCSM) wave functions of 18F at Nmax=6 (total oscillator quanta of excitation) model space and the Okubo-Lee-Suzuki transformation. First, we explore the convergence properties of our calculations and show that the excitation energies of states in 18F, characterized by the largest valence-like configurations, are reasonably converged and the lowest states are in sensible agreement with experiment. Then, we investigate the monopole properties of that interaction in comparison with the phenomenological universal sd-shell interaction, USDB, and with the previously derived interaction at Nmax=4. Theoretical binding energies and low-energy spectra of the O isotopes, as well as low-energy spectra of a selection of $sd$-shell nuclei, are presented. We conclude that the use of larger-space NCSM wave functions leads to a noticeable improvement in the quality of the derived effective interaction. We propose monopole modifications of the Daejeon16 centroids which further improve the agreement with experiment throughout the sd shell, as demonstrated by a compilation of spectra contained in Supplemental Material.

In recent years, remarkable progress has been achieved in develo** novel non-perturbative techniques for constructing valence space shell model Hamiltonians from realistic internucleon interactions. One of these methods is based on the Okubo--Lee--Suzuki (OLS) unitary transformation applied to no-core shell model (NCSM) solutions. In the present work, we implement the corresponding approach to solve for valence space effective electromagnetic operators. To this end, we use the NCSM results for $A=16-18$, obtained at $N_{\rm max}=4$, to derive a charge-dependent version of the effective interaction for the $sd$ shell, which allows us to exactly reproduce selected NCSM spectra of $^{18}$O, $^{18}$F and $^{18}$Ne within the two valence nucleon space. We then deduce effective single-particle matrix elements of electric quadrupole ($E2$) and magnetic dipole ($M1$) operators by matching them to the electromagnetic transitions and moments for $^{17}$O and $^{17}$F from the NCSM at $N_{\rm max}=4$. Thus, effective $E2$ and $M1$ operators are obtained as sets of single-particle matrix elements for the valence space ($sd$ shell) which allow us to reproduce the NCSM results for $A=17$ exactly. Systematic comparison of a large set of $sd$ shell results on quadrupole and magnetic dipole moments and transitions for $A=18$ using effective $E2$ and $M1$ operators that we derive from the full NCSM calculations demonstrates a remarkable agreement.

It turned out that the obtained in such a way Daejeon16 NN interaction provides a good description of various observables in light nuclei without NNN forces. In this contribution, we present our new results for some selected nuclei using the ab initio no-core shell model (NCSM) with the Daejeon16 interaction. One of the interesting results is that the ab initio NCSM with Daejeon16 clearly demonstrates the phenomenon of parity inversion in Be-11, i.e., the ground state in Be-11 has the spin-parity (1/2, +) in experiments contrary to the expectation from the conventional shell model

We then propose monopole modifications of the Daejeon16 centroids in order to provide an adjusted interaction yielding significantly improved agreement with the experiment. A spin-tensor decomposition of two-body effective interactions is applied in order to extract more information on the structure of the centroids and to understand the reason for deficiencies arising from our current theoretical approximations. The issue of the possible role of the three-nucleon forces is addressed.

Ab initio approaches in nuclear theory, such as the no-core shell model (NCSM), have been developed for approximately solving finite nuclei with realistic strong interactions. The NCSM and other approaches require an extrapolation of the results obtained in a finite basis space to the infinite basis space limit and assessment of the uncertainty of those extrapolations. Each observable requires a separate extrapolation and most observables have no proven extrapolation method. We propose a feed-forward artificial neural network (ANN) method as an extrapolation tool to obtain the ground state energy and the ground state point-proton root-mean-square (rms) radius along with their extrapolation uncertainties. The designed ANNs are sufficient to produce results for these two very different observables in $^6$Li from the ab initio NCSM results in small basis spaces that satisfy the following theoretical physics condition: independence of basis space parameters in the limit of extremely large matrices. Comparisons of the ANN results with other extrapolation methods are also provided.

Using an extended parity doublet model with the hidden local symmetry, we study some properties of nuclei in the mean field approximation to see if the parity doublet model could reproduce nuclear properties and also to estimate the value of the chiral invariant nucleon mass $m_0$ preferred by nuclear structure. We first determine our model parameters using the inputs from free space and from nuclear matter properties. Then, we study some basic nuclear properties such as the nuclear binding energy with several different choices of the chiral invariant mass. We observe that our results approach the experimental values as $m_0$ is increased until $m_0=700$ MeV and start to deviate more from the experiments afterwards with $m_0$ larger than $m_0=700$ MeV. From this observation, we conclude that $m_0=700$ MeV is preferred by nuclear properties. We then calculate some properties of several selected nuclei with $m_0=700$ MeV and compare them with experiments. Finally, we study the neutron-proton mass difference in some nuclei.

In recent years, several successful applications of the Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) have emerged in nuclear physics and high-energy physics, as well as in biology, chemistry, meteorology, and other fields of science. A major goal of nuclear theory is to predict nuclear structure and nuclear reactions from the underlying theory of the strong interactions, Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). With access to powerful High Performance Computing (HPC) systems, several ab initio approaches, such as the No-Core Shell Model (NCSM), have been developed to calculate the properties of atomic nuclei. However, to accurately solve for the properties of atomic nuclei, one faces immense theoretical and computational challenges. The present study proposes a feed-forward ANN method for predicting the properties of atomic nuclei like ground state energy and ground state point proton root-mean-square (rms) radius based on NCSM results in computationally accessible basis spaces. The designed ANNs are sufficient to produce results for these two very different observables in 6Li from the ab initio NCSM results in small basis spaces that satisfy the theoretical physics condition: independence of basis space parameters in the limit of extremely large matrices. We employ both the JISP16 and chiral NNLO$_{opt}$ realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions and investigate the ground state energy, excitation energies, point proton root-mean-square radius and a suite of electroweak observables. We also extend and test methods to extrapolate the ground state energy, point proton root-mean-square radius, and electric quadrupole moment. We attain improved estimates of these observables in the No-Core Full Configuration approach by using basis spaces up through N$_{max}$=18 that enable more definitive comparisons with experiment. For two light quarks, we investigate how the strong isospin violation affects the properties of holographic dense matter and compact stars. We observe that quark-antiquark condensates are flavor dependent and show interesting behavior near the transition from dense matter with only one flavor to matter with two flavors. An intermediate mass quark is introduced to investigate the role of the third flavor. The mass-radius relations of holographic compact stars with three flavors show that the mass-radius curve changes drastically at a transition density from which the third flavor begins to appear in the matter.

Nuclear masses ranging from O to Ti isotopes are systematically investigated with relativistic continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov (RCHB) theory, which can provide a proper treatment of pairing correlations in the presence of the continuum. From O to Ti isotopes, there are 402 nuclei predicted to be bound by the density functional PC-PK1. For the 234 nuclei with mass measured, the root mean square (rms) deviation is 2.23 MeV. It is found that the proton drip-lines predicted with various mass models are roughly the same and basically agree with the observation. The neutron drip-lines predicted, however, are quite different. Due to the continuum couplings, the neutron drip-line nuclei predicted are extended further neutron-rich than other mass models. By comparison with finite-range droplet model (FRDM), the neutron drip-line nucleus predicted by RCHB theory has respectively 2(O), 10(Ne), 10(Na), 6(Mg), 8(Al), 6(Si), 8(P), 6(S), 14(K), 10(Ca), 10(Sc), and 12(Ti) more neutrons.

We solve the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equation using an equation of state (EoS) calculated in holographic QCD. The aim is to use compact astrophysical objects like neutron stars as an indicator to test holographic equations of state. We first try an EoS from a dense D4/D8/\textoverline {D8} model. In this case, however, we could not find a stable compact star, a star satisfying pressure-zero condition with a radius $R$, $p(R)=0$, within a reasonable value of the radius. This means that the EoS from the D4/D8/\textoverline {D8} model may not support any stable compact stars or may support one whose radius is very large. This might be due to a deficit of attractive force from a scalar field or two-pion exchange in the D4/D8/\textoverline {D8} model. Then, we consider D4/D6 type models with different number of quark flavors, $N_f=1,2,3$. Though the mass and radius of a holographic star is larger than those of normal neutron stars, the D4/D6 type EoS renders a stable compact star.

In both cases we observe that the mass splitting of charged mesons occurs at low densities due to the asymmetry, while at high densities their masses become degenerate. We revisit confinement/deconfinement transition in holographic QCD to consider the back-reaction of a bulk scalar field. The bulk scalar field is dual to a quark bi-linear operator $\bar qq$, and it encodes explicit and spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking of QCD. To perform the Hawking-Page transition analysis with the back-reaction, we first obtain a deformed AdS black hole solution due to a finite quark mass. Through the Hawking-Page analysis with the back-reacted geometry, we study the flavor number $N_f$ and finite quark mass dependence of the critical temperature of the QCD confinement/deconfinement transition. In addition, we confirm that unphysical QCD phase haunting around in a previous study disappears with the back-reaction. We discuss our results in the light of lattice QCD observations.
