The ratio of neutral-to-charged kaon form factors at large momentum transfers ($12~{\rm GeV}^2<Q^2<25~{\rm GeV}^2$) is determined to be $0.21\pm 0.01$, which indicates a small but significant effect of flavor-SU(3) breaking in the kaon wave function, and consequently excludes the possibility that flavor-SU(3) breaking is the primary reason for the strong experimental violation of the pQCD prediction $|F(π^{\pm})|/|F(K^{\pm})|=f^2_π/f^2_{K}$, where $F(π^{\pm})$ and $F(K^{\pm})$ are the form factors, and $f_π$ and $f_{K}$ are the decay constants of charged pions and kaons, respectively. We also observe a significant signal for the charmless decay $ψ(3770)\to K_S^0K_L^0$ for the first time. Within a $1σ$ contour of the likelihood value, the the branching fraction for $ψ(3770)\to K_S^0K_L^0$ is determined to be ${\cal B}=(2.63_{-1.59}^{+1.40})\times 10^{-5}$, and the relative phase between the continuum and $ψ(3770)$ amplitudes is $φ=(-0.39_{-0.10}^{+0.05})π$. The branching fraction is in good agreement with the $\mathcal{S}$- and $\mathcal{D}$-wave charmonia mixing scheme proposed in the interpretation of the "$ρπ$ puzzle" between $J/ψ$ and $ψ(3686)$ decays.

The optical flow guidance strategy is ideal for obtaining motion information of objects in the video. It is widely utilized in video segmentation tasks. However, existing optical flow-based methods have a significant dependency on optical flow, which results in poor performance when the optical flow estimation fails for a particular scene. The temporal consistency provided by the optical flow could be effectively supplemented by modeling in a structural form. This paper proposes a new hierarchical graph neural network (GNN) architecture, dubbed hierarchical graph pattern understanding (HGPU), for zero-shot video object segmentation (ZS-VOS). Inspired by the strong ability of GNNs in capturing structural relations, HGPU innovatively leverages motion cues (\ie, optical flow) to enhance the high-order representations from the neighbors of target frames. Specifically, a hierarchical graph pattern encoder with message aggregation is introduced to acquire different levels of motion and appearance features in a sequential manner. Furthermore, a decoder is designed for hierarchically parsing and understanding the transformed multi-modal contexts to achieve more accurate and robust results. HGPU achieves state-of-the-art performance on four publicly available benchmarks (DAVIS-16, YouTube-Objects, Long-Videos and DAVIS-17). Code and pre-trained model can be found at \url{https://github.com/NUST-Machine-Intelligence-Laboratory/HGPU}.

Magnetocaloric microwires are very promising for energy-efficient magnetic refrigeration in micro electromechanical systems (MEMS) and nano electromechanical systems (NEMS). Creating microwires that exhibit large magnetocaloric effects around room temperature represents an important but challenging task. Here, we report a tunable giant magnetocaloric effect around room temperature in Mn$_x$Fe$_{2-x}$P$_{0.5}$Si$_{0.5}$ ($x$ = 0.7-1.2) microwires by utilizing a melt-extraction technique paired with thermal treatment and chemical engineering. The isothermal magnetic entropy change DeltaSiso and Curie temperature (TC) can be tuned by adjusting the Mn/Fe ratio. The TC varies from 351 to 190 K as x increases from 0.8 to 1.2. Among the compositions investigated, the x = 0.9 sample shows the largest value of DeltaSiso = 18.3 J kg$^{-1}$ K$^{-1}$ for a field change of 5 T around 300 K. After subtracting magnetic hysteresis loss, a large refrigerant capacity of ~284.6 J kg$^{-1}$ is achieved. Our study paves a new pathway for the design of novel magnetocaloric microwires for active magnetic refrigeration at ambient temperatures.

Magnetic refrigeration (MR) based on the magnetocaloric effect (MCE) is a promising alternative to conventional vapor compression refrigeration techniques. The cooling efficiency of a magnetic refrigerator depends on its refrigeration capacity and operation frequency. Existing refrigerators possess limited cooling efficiency due to the low operating frequency (around tens of Hz). Theory predicts that reducing geometrical effects can increase the operation frequency by reducing the relaxation time of a magnetic material. As compared to other shapes, magnetocaloric wires transfer heat most effectively to a surrounding environment, due to their enhanced surface area. The wire shape also yields a good mechanical response, reducing the relaxation time and consequently increasing the operation frequency of the cooling device. Experiments have validated the theoretical predictions. By assembling microwires with different magnetocaloric properties and Curie temperatures into a laminate structure, a table-like magnetocaloric bed can be created and used as an active cooling device for micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) and nano-electro-mechanical system (NEMS). This paper assesses recent progress in the development of magnetocaloric microwires and sheds light on the important factors affecting the magnetocaloric behavior and cooling efficiency in microwire systems. Challenges, opportunities, and strategies regarding the development of advanced magnetocaloric microwires are also discussed.

Non-zero cross sections are observed very close to the production threshold. The measured Born cross sections of $e^+e^-\to Λ_{c}^+ \barΛ_{c}(2625)^- + \rm{c.c.}$ are about $2\sim3$ times greater than those of $e^+e^-\to Λ_{c}^+ \barΛ_{c}(2595)^- + \rm{c.c.}$, thereby indicating that the exotic structure potentially exists in the excited charmed baryons. The Born cross sections are $15.6\pm3.1\pm0.9$ pb and $29.4\pm3.7\pm2.7$ pb for $e^+e^-\to Λ_{c}^+ \barΛ_{c}(2595)^- + \rm{c.c.}$, and are $43.4\pm4.0\pm4.1$ pb and $76.8\pm6.5\pm4.2$ pb for $e^+e^-\to Λ_{c}^+ \barΛ_{c}(2625)^- +\rm{c.c.}$ at $\sqrt s=4918.0$ and 4950.9 MeV, respectively. Based on the polar angle distributions of the $\barΛ_{c}(2625)^-$ and $Λ_{c}(2625)^+$, the form-factor ratios $\sqrt{|G_{E}|^2 + 3|G_{M}|^2}/|G_{C}|$ are determined for $e^+e^-\to Λ_{c}^+ \barΛ_{c}(2625)^- + \rm{c.c.}$ for the first time, which are $5.95\pm4.07\pm0.15$ and $0.94\pm0.32\pm0.02$ at $\sqrt s=4918.0$ and 4950.9 MeV, respectively. All of these first uncertainties are statistical and second systematic.

Story Visualization aims to generate images aligned with story prompts, reflecting the coherence of storybooks through visual consistency among characters and scenes.Whereas current approaches exclusively concentrate on characters and neglect the visual consistency among contextually correlated scenes, resulting in independent character images without inter-image coherence. To tackle this issue, we propose a new presentation form for Story Visualization called Storyboard, inspired by film-making, as illustrated in Fig.1.Specifically, a Storyboard unfolds a story into visual representations scene by scene. Within each scene in Storyboard, characters engage in activities at the same location, necessitating both visually consistent scenes and characters. For Storyboard, we design a general framework coined as Make-A-Storyboard that applies disentangled control over the consistency of contextual correlated characters and scenes and then merge them to form harmonized images.Extensive experiments demonstrate 1) Effectiveness.the effectiveness of the method in story alignment, character consistency, and scene correlation; 2) Generalization. Our method could be seamlessly integrated into mainstream Image Customization methods, empowering them with the capability of story visualization.

The ability to accurately predict the trajectory of surrounding vehicles is a critical hurdle to overcome on the journey to fully autonomous vehicles. To address this challenge, we pioneer a novel behavior-aware trajectory prediction model (BAT) that incorporates insights and findings from traffic psychology, human behavior, and decision-making. Our model consists of behavior-aware, interaction-aware, priority-aware, and position-aware modules that perceive and understand the underlying interactions and account for uncertainty and variability in prediction, enabling higher-level learning and flexibility without rigid categorization of driving behavior. Importantly, this approach eliminates the need for manual labeling in the training process and addresses the challenges of non-continuous behavior labeling and the selection of appropriate time windows. We evaluate BAT's performance across the Next Generation Simulation (NGSIM), Highway Drone (HighD), Roundabout Drone (RounD), and Macao Connected Autonomous Driving (MoCAD) datasets, showcasing its superiority over prevailing state-of-the-art (SOTA) benchmarks in terms of prediction accuracy and efficiency. Remarkably, even when trained on reduced portions of the training data (25%), our model outperforms most of the baselines, demonstrating its robustness and efficiency in predicting vehicle trajectories, and the potential to reduce the amount of data required to train autonomous vehicles, especially in corner cases. In conclusion, the behavior-aware model represents a significant advancement in the development of autonomous vehicles capable of predicting trajectories with the same level of proficiency as human drivers. In the field of autonomous vehicles (AVs), accurately discerning commander intent and executing linguistic commands within a visual context presents a significant challenge. This paper introduces a sophisticated encoder-decoder framework, developed to address visual grounding in AVs.Our Context-Aware Visual Grounding (CAVG) model is an advanced system that integrates five core encoders-Text, Image, Context, and Cross-Modal-with a Multimodal decoder. This integration enables the CAVG model to adeptly capture contextual semantics and to learn human emotional features, augmented by state-of-the-art Large Language Models (LLMs) including GPT-4. The architecture of CAVG is reinforced by the implementation of multi-head cross-modal attention mechanisms and a Region-Specific Dynamic (RSD) layer for attention modulation. This architectural design enables the model to efficiently process and interpret a range of cross-modal inputs, yielding a comprehensive understanding of the correlation between verbal commands and corresponding visual scenes. Empirical evaluations on the Talk2Car dataset, a real-world benchmark, demonstrate that CAVG establishes new standards in prediction accuracy and operational efficiency. Notably, the model exhibits exceptional performance even with limited training data, ranging from 50% to 75% of the full dataset. This feature highlights its effectiveness and potential for deployment in practical AV applications. Moreover, CAVG has shown remarkable robustness and adaptability in challenging scenarios, including long-text command interpretation, low-light conditions, ambiguous command contexts, inclement weather conditions, and densely populated urban environments. The code for the proposed model is available at our Github.

Skin cancer, the primary type of cancer that can be identified by visual recognition, requires an automatic identification system that can accurately classify different types of lesions. This paper presents GoogLe-Dense Network (GDN), which is an image-classification model to identify two types of skin cancer, Basal Cell Carcinoma, and Melanoma. GDN uses stacking of different networks to enhance the model performance. Specifically, GDN consists of two sequential levels in its structure. The first level performs basic classification tasks accomplished by GoogLeNet and DenseNet, which are trained in parallel to enhance efficiency. To avoid low accuracy and long training time, the second level takes the output of the GoogLeNet and DenseNet as the input for a logistic regression model. We compare our method with four baseline networks including ResNet, VGGNet, DenseNet, and GoogLeNet on the dataset, in which GoogLeNet and DenseNet significantly outperform ResNet and VGGNet. In the second level, different stacking methods such as perceptron, logistic regression, SVM, decision trees and K-neighbor are studied in which Logistic Regression shows the best prediction result among all. The results prove that GDN, compared to a single network structure, has higher accuracy in optimizing skin cancer detection.

In challenging terrains, constructing structures such as antennas and cable-car masts often requires the use of helicopters to transport loads via ropes. The swinging of the load, exacerbated by wind, impairs positioning accuracy, therefore necessitating precise manual placement by ground crews. This increases costs and risk of injuries. Challenging this paradigm, we present Geranos: a specialized multirotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) designed to enhance aerial transportation and assembly. Geranos demonstrates exceptional prowess in accurately positioning vertical poles, achieving this through an innovative integration of load transport and precision. Its unique ring design mitigates the impact of high pole inertia, while a lightweight two-part gras** mechanism ensures secure load attachment without active force. With four primary propellers countering gravity and four auxiliary ones enhancing lateral precision, Geranos achieves comprehensive position and attitude control around hovering. Our experimental demonstration mimicking antenna/cable-car mast installations showcases Geranos ability in stacking poles (3 kg, 2 m long) with remarkable sub-5 cm placement accuracy, without the need of human manual intervention.

Catastrophic Forgetting (CF) is a prominent issue in continual learning. Parameter isolation addresses this challenge by masking a sub-network for each task to mitigate interference with old tasks. However, these sub-networks are constructed relying on weight magnitude, which does not necessarily correspond to the importance of weights, resulting in maintaining unimportant weights and constructing redundant sub-networks. To overcome this limitation, inspired by information bottleneck, which removes redundancy between adjacent network layers, we propose \textbf{\underline{I}nformation \underline{B}ottleneck \underline{M}asked sub-network (IBM)} to eliminate redundancy within sub-networks. Specifically, IBM accumulates valuable information into essential weights to construct redundancy-free sub-networks, not only effectively mitigating CF by freezing the sub-networks but also facilitating new tasks training through the transfer of valuable knowledge. Additionally, IBM decomposes hidden representations to automate the construction process and make it flexible. Extensive experiments demonstrate that IBM consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods. Notably, IBM surpasses the state-of-the-art parameter isolation method with a 70\% reduction in the number of parameters within sub-networks and an 80\% decrease in training time.

The advent of highly accurate protein structure prediction methods has fueled an exponential expansion of the protein structure database. Consequently, there is a rising demand for rapid and precise structural homolog search. Traditional alignment-based methods are dedicated to precise comparisons between pairs, exhibiting high accuracy. However, their sluggish processing speed is no longer adequate for managing the current massive volume of data. In response to this challenge, we propose a novel deep-learning approach FoldExplorer. It harnesses the powerful capabilities of graph attention neural networks and protein large language models for protein structures and sequences data processing to generate embeddings for protein structures. The structural embeddings can be used for fast and accurate protein search. The embeddings also provide insights into the protein space. FoldExplorer demonstrates a substantial performance improvement of 5% to 8% over the current state-of-the-art algorithm on the benchmark datasets. Meanwhile, FoldExplorer does not compromise on search speed and excels particularly in searching on a large-scale dataset.

Zero-shot Text-to-Video synthesis generates videos based on prompts without any videos. Without motion information from videos, motion priors implied in prompts are vital guidance. For example, the prompt "airplane landing on the runway" indicates motion priors that the "airplane" moves downwards while the "runway" stays static. Whereas the motion priors are not fully exploited in previous approaches, thus leading to two nontrivial issues: 1) the motion variation pattern remains unaltered and prompt-agnostic for disregarding motion priors; 2) the motion control of different objects is inaccurate and entangled without considering the independent motion priors of different objects. To tackle the two issues, we propose a prompt-adaptive and disentangled motion control strategy coined as MotionZero, which derives motion priors from prompts of different objects by Large-Language-Models and accordingly applies motion control of different objects to corresponding regions in disentanglement. Furthermore, to facilitate videos with varying degrees of motion amplitude, we propose a Motion-Aware Attention scheme which adjusts attention among frames by motion amplitude. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our strategy could correctly control motion of different objects and support versatile applications including zero-shot video edit.

Diffusion models have gained popularity for generating images from textual descriptions. Nonetheless, the substantial need for computational resources continues to present a noteworthy challenge, contributing to time-consuming processes. Quantization, a technique employed to compress deep learning models for enhanced efficiency, presents challenges when applied to diffusion models. These models are notably more sensitive to quantization compared to other model types, potentially resulting in a degradation of image quality. In this paper, we introduce a novel approach to quantize the diffusion models by leveraging both quantization-aware training and distillation. Our results show the quantized models can maintain the high image quality while demonstrating the inference efficiency on CPUs. We construct an efficient class of increasingly high-order (up to 17th-order) essentially non-oscillatory schemes with multi-resolution (ENO-MR) for solving hyperbolic conservation laws. The candidate stencils for constructing ENO-MR schemes range from first-order one-point stencil increasingly up to the designed very high-order stencil. The proposed ENO-MR schemes adopt a very simple and efficient strategy that only requires the computation of the highest-order derivatives of a part of candidate stencils. Besides simplicity and high efficiency, ENO-MR schemes are completely parameter-free and essentially scale-invariant. Theoretical analysis and numerical computations show that ENO-MR schemes achieve designed high-order convergence in smooth regions which may contain high-order critical points (local extrema) and retain ENO property for strong shocks. In addition, ENO-MR schemes could capture complex flow structures very well.

In weakly supervised video anomaly detection (WVAD), where only video-level labels indicating the presence or absence of abnormal events are available, the primary challenge arises from the inherent ambiguity in temporal annotations of abnormal occurrences. Inspired by the statistical insight that temporal features of abnormal events often exhibit outlier characteristics, we propose a novel method, BN-WVAD, which incorporates BatchNorm into WVAD. In the proposed BN-WVAD, we leverage the Divergence of Feature from Mean vector (DFM) of BatchNorm as a reliable abnormality criterion to discern potential abnormal snippets in abnormal videos. The proposed DFM criterion is also discriminative for anomaly recognition and more resilient to label noise, serving as the additional anomaly score to amend the prediction of the anomaly classifier that is susceptible to noisy labels. Moreover, a batch-level selection strategy is devised to filter more abnormal snippets in videos where more abnormal events occur. The proposed BN-WVAD model demonstrates state-of-the-art performance on UCF-Crime with an AUC of 87.24%, and XD-Violence, where AP reaches up to 84.93%. The focus of this study is on Unsupervised Continual Learning (UCL), as it presents an alternative to Supervised Continual Learning which needs high-quality manual labeled data. The experiments under the UCL paradigm indicate a phenomenon where the results on the first few tasks are suboptimal. This phenomenon can render the model inappropriate for practical applications. To address this issue, after analyzing the phenomenon and identifying the lack of diversity as a vital factor, we propose a method named Codebook for Unsupervised Continual Learning (CUCL) which promotes the model to learn discriminative features to complete the class boundary. Specifically, we first introduce a Product Quantization to inject diversity into the representation and apply a cross quantized contrastive loss between the original representation and the quantized one to capture discriminative information. Then, based on the quantizer, we propose an effective Codebook Rehearsal to address catastrophic forgetting. This study involves conducting extensive experiments on CIFAR100, TinyImageNet, and MiniImageNet benchmark datasets. Our method significantly boosts the performances of supervised and unsupervised methods. For instance, on TinyImageNet, our method led to a relative improvement of 12.76% and 7% when compared with Simsiam and BYOL, respectively.

Referring Expression Comprehension (REC) aims to localize an image region of a given object described by a natural-language expression. While promising performance has been demonstrated, existing REC algorithms make a strong assumption that training data feeding into a model are given upfront, which degrades its practicality for real-world scenarios. In this paper, we propose Continual Referring Expression Comprehension (CREC), a new setting for REC, where a model is learning on a stream of incoming tasks. In order to continuously improve the model on sequential tasks without forgetting prior learned knowledge and without repeatedly re-training from a scratch, we propose an effective baseline method named Dual Modular Memorization (DMM), which alleviates the problem of catastrophic forgetting by two memorization modules: Implicit-Memory and Explicit-Memory. Specifically, the former module aims to constrain drastic changes to important parameters learned on old tasks when learning a new task; while the latter module maintains a buffer pool to dynamically select and store representative samples of each seen task for future rehearsal. We create three benchmarks for the new CREC setting, by respectively re-splitting three widely-used REC datasets RefCOCO, RefCOCO+ and RefCOCOg into sequential tasks. Extensive experiments on the constructed benchmarks demonstrate that our DMM method significantly outperforms other alternatives, based on two popular REC backbones. We make the source code and benchmarks publicly available to foster future progress in this field: https://github.com/zackschen/DMM.

Test-time adaptation (TTA) aims to improve model generalizability when test data diverges from training distribution, offering the distinct advantage of not requiring access to training data and processes, especially valuable in the context of large pre-trained models. However, current TTA methods fail to address the fundamental issue: covariate shift, i.e., the decreased generalizability can be attributed to the model's reliance on the marginal distribution of the training data, which may impair model calibration and introduce confirmation bias. To address this, we propose a novel energy-based perspective, enhancing the model's perception of target data distributions without requiring access to training data or processes. Building on this perspective, we introduce $\textbf{T}$est-time $\textbf{E}$nergy $\textbf{A}$daptation ($\textbf{TEA}$), which transforms the trained classifier into an energy-based model and aligns the model's distribution with the test data's, enhancing its ability to perceive test distributions and thus improving overall generalizability. Extensive experiments across multiple tasks, benchmarks and architectures demonstrate TEA's superior generalization performance against state-of-the-art methods. Further in-depth analyses reveal that TEA can equip the model with a comprehensive perception of test distribution, ultimately paving the way toward improved generalization and calibration.

Though diffusion models excel in image generation, their step-by-step denoising leads to slow generation speeds. Consistency training addresses this issue with single-step sampling but often produces lower-quality generations and requires high training costs. In this paper, we show that optimizing consistency training loss minimizes the Wasserstein distance between target and generated distributions. As timestep increases, the upper bound accumulates previous consistency training losses. Therefore, larger batch sizes are needed to reduce both current and accumulated losses. We propose Adversarial Consistency Training (ACT), which directly minimizes the Jensen-Shannon (JS) divergence between distributions at each timestep using a discriminator. Theoretically, ACT enhances generation quality, and convergence. By incorporating a discriminator into the consistency training framework, our method achieves improved FID scores on CIFAR10 and ImageNet 64$\times$64 and LSUN Cat 256$\times$256 datasets, retains zero-shot image inpainting capabilities, and uses less than $1/6$ of the original batch size and fewer than $1/2$ of the model parameters and training steps compared to the baseline method, this leads to a substantial reduction in resource consumption. Our code is available:https://github.com/kong13661/ACT

With the advancement of generation models, AI-generated content (AIGC) is becoming more realistic, flooding the Internet. A recent study suggests that this phenomenon causes source bias in text retrieval for web search. Specifically, neural retrieval models tend to rank generated texts higher than human-written texts. In this paper, we extend the study of this bias to cross-modal retrieval. Firstly, we successfully construct a suitable benchmark to explore the existence of the bias. Subsequent extensive experiments on this benchmark reveal that AI-generated images introduce an invisible relevance bias to text-image retrieval models. Specifically, our experiments show that text-image retrieval models tend to rank the AI-generated images higher than the real images, even though the AI-generated images do not exhibit more visually relevant features to the query than real images. This invisible relevance bias is prevalent across retrieval models with varying training data and architectures. Furthermore, our subsequent exploration reveals that the inclusion of AI-generated images in the training data of the retrieval models exacerbates the invisible relevance bias. The above phenomenon triggers a vicious cycle, which makes the invisible relevance bias become more and more serious. To elucidate the potential causes of invisible relevance and address the aforementioned issues, we introduce an effective training method aimed at alleviating the invisible relevance bias. Subsequently, we apply our proposed debiasing method to retroactively identify the causes of invisible relevance, revealing that the AI-generated images induce the image encoder to embed additional information into their representation. This information exhibits a certain consistency across generated images with different semantics and can make the retriever estimate a higher relevance score.

Based on realistic MDB portfolios constructed from publicly available data, this paper quantifies the magnitude of the exposure to name concentration risk using exact Monte Carlo simulations. In comparing the exact adjustment for name concentration risk to its analytic approximation as currently applied by the major rating agency Standard & Poor's, we further investigate whether current capital adequacy frameworks for MDBs are overly conservative. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of $6.4~{\rm fb^{-1}}$, in the center-of-mass energy range from $4.600~{\rm GeV}$ to $4.950~{\rm GeV}$. We determine the branching fractions of $Λ_c^+ \rightarrow ΛK^+π^0$ and $Λ_c^+ \rightarrow ΛK^+π^+π^-$ relative to their Cabibbo-favored counterparts to be $\frac{\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+ \rightarrow ΛK^+π^0)}{\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+ \rightarrow Λπ^+π^0)} = (2.09\pm0.39_{\mathrm{stat.}}\pm0.07_{\mathrm{syst.}}) \times 10^{-2}$ and $\frac{\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+ \rightarrow ΛK^+π^+π^-)}{\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+ \rightarrow Λπ^+π^+π^-)} = (1.13\pm0.41_{\mathrm{stat.}}\pm0.06_{\mathrm{syst.}}) \times 10^{-2}$, respectively. Moreover, by combining our measured result with the world average of $\mathcal{B}(Λ^+_c\to Λπ^+π^0)$, we obtain the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+ \to ΛK^+π^0) = (1.49\pm0.27_{\mathrm{stat.}}\pm0.05_{\mathrm{syst.}}\pm0.08_{\mathrm{ref.}}) \times 10^{-3}$. For intelligent quadcopter UAVs, a robust and reliable autonomous planning system is crucial. Most current trajectory planning methods for UAVs are suitable for static environments but struggle to handle dynamic obstacles, which can pose challenges and even dangers to flight. To address this issue, this paper proposes a vision-based planning system that combines tracking and trajectory prediction of dynamic obstacles to achieve efficient and reliable autonomous flight. We use a lightweight object detection algorithm to identify dynamic obstacles and then use Kalman Filtering to track and estimate their motion states. During the planning phase, we not only consider static obstacles but also account for the potential movements of dynamic obstacles. For trajectory generation, we use a B-spline-based trajectory search algorithm, which is further optimized with various constraints to enhance safety and alignment with the UAV's motion characteristics. We conduct experiments in both simulation and real-world environments, and the results indicate that our approach can successfully detect and avoid obstacles in dynamic environments in real-time, offering greater reliability compared to existing approaches. Furthermore, with the advancements in Natural Language Processing (NLP) technology demonstrating exceptional zero-shot generalization capabilities, more user-friendly human-machine interactions have become feasible, and this study also explores the integration of autonomous planning systems with Large Language Models (LLMs).

Traditional functional linear regression usually takes a one-dimensional functional predictor as input and estimates the continuous coefficient function. Modern applications often generate two-dimensional covariates, which become matrices when observed at grid points. To avoid the inefficiency of the classical method involving estimation of a two-dimensional coefficient function, we propose a functional bilinear regression model, and introduce an innovative three-term penalty to impose roughness penalty in the estimation. The proposed estimator exhibits minimax optimal property for prediction under the framework of reproducing kernel Hilbert space. An iterative generalized cross-validation approach is developed to choose tuning parameters, which significantly improves the computational efficiency over the traditional cross-validation approach. The statistical and computational advantages of the proposed method over existing methods are further demonstrated via simulated experiments, the Canadian weather data, and a biochemical long-range infrared light detection and ranging data.

Computation of sample size is important when designing clinical trials. The presence of competing risks makes the design of clinical trials with time-to-event endpoints cumbersome. A model based on the subdistribution hazard ratio (SHR) is commonly used for trials under competing risks. However, this approach has some limitations related to model assumptions and clinical interpretation. Considering such limitations, the difference in restricted mean time lost (RMTLd) is recommended as an alternative indicator. In this paper, we propose a sample size calculation method based on the RMTLd for the Weibull distribution (RMTLdWeibull) for clinical trials, which considers experimental conditions such as equal allocation, uniform accrual, uniform loss to follow-up, and administrative censoring. Simulation results show that sample size calculation based on the RMTLdWeibull can generally achieve a predefined power level and maintain relative robustness. Moreover, the performance of the sample size calculation based on the RMTLdWeibull is similar or superior to that based on the SHR. Even if the event time does not follow the Weibull distribution, the sample size calculation based on the RMTLdWeibull still performs well. The results also verify the performance of the sample size calculation method based on the RMTLdWeibull. From the perspective of the results of this study, clinical interpretation, application conditions and statistical performance, we recommend that when designing clinical trials in the presence of competing risks, the RMTLd indicator be applied for sample size calculation and subsequent effect size measurement.

As businesses, products, and services spring up around large language models, the trustworthiness of these models hinges on the verifiability of their outputs. However, methods for explaining language model outputs largely fall across two distinct fields of study which both use the term "attribution" to refer to entirely separate techniques: citation generation and training data attribution. In many modern applications, such as legal document generation and medical question answering, both types of attributions are important. In this work, we argue for and present a unified framework of large language model attributions. We show how existing methods of different types of attribution fall under the unified framework. We also use the framework to discuss real-world use cases where one or both types of attributions are required. We believe that this unified framework will guide the use case driven development of systems that leverage both types of attribution, as well as the standardization of their evaluation.

Community search is a personalized community discovery problem designed to identify densely connected subgraphs containing the query node. Recently, community search in heterogeneous information networks (HINs) has received considerable attention. Existing methods typically focus on modeling relationships in HINs through predefined meta-paths or user-specified relational constraints. However, metapath-based methods are primarily designed to identify single-type communities with nodes of the same type rather than multi-type communities involving nodes of different types. Constraint-based methods require users to have a good understanding of community patterns to define a suitable set of relational constraints, which increases the burden on users. In this paper, we propose FCS-HGNN, a novel method for flexibly identifying both single-type and multi-type communities in HINs. Specifically, FCS-HGNN extracts complementary information from different views and dynamically considers the contribution of each relation instead of treating them equally, thereby capturing more fine-grained heterogeneous information. Furthermore, to improve efficiency on large-scale graphs, we further propose LS-FCS-HGNN, which incorporates i) the neighbor sampling strategy to improve training efficiency, and ii) the depth-based heuristic search strategy to improve query efficiency. We conducted extensive experiments to demonstrate the superiority of our proposed methods over state-of-the-art methods, achieving average improvements of 14.3% and 11.1% on single-type and multi-type communities, respectively.

The emergence of large language models (LLMs) further improves the capabilities of open-domain dialogue systems and can generate fluent, coherent, and diverse responses. However, LLMs still lack a crucial ability: communication skills. This limitation renders them more like information seeking tools rather than anthropomorphic chatbots. Communication skills, such as topic transition, proactively asking questions, concept guidance, empathy, and summarising often should be taken into consideration, to make LLMs more anthropomorphic and proactive during the conversation, thereby increasing the interest of users and attracting them to chat for longer. However, enabling these communication skills in black-box LLMs remains a key challenge because they do not have the same utterance formation mode as real people: think before speaking. Inspired by linguistics and cognitive science, we empower LLMs with communication skills through inner monologues. To evaluate various communication skills, we construct a benchmark named Cskills, which can also more comprehensively evaluate the dialogue generation ability of the model. Experimental results show that the proposed CSIM strategy improves the backbone models and outperforms the baselines.

The absolute branching fraction of $Λ_c^+\to pπ^0$ is measured to be $(1.56^{+0.72}_{-0.58}\pm0.20)\times 10^{-4}$. Combining with the branching fraction of $Λ_c^+\to nπ^+$, $(6.6\pm1.3)\times10^{-4}$, the ratio of the branching fractions of $Λ_c^+\to nπ^+$ and $Λ_c^+\to pπ^0$ is calculated to be $3.2^{+2.2}_{-1.2}$. As an important input for the theoretical models describing the decay mechanisms of charmed baryons, our result indicates that the non-factorizable contributions play an essential role and their interference with the factorizable contributions should not be significant. In addition, the absolute branching fraction of $Λ_c^+\to pη$ is measured to be $(1.63\pm0.31_{\rm stat}\pm0.11_{\rm syst}) \times10^{-3}$.

Contrastive learning has recently emerged as a promising approach for learning data representations that discover and disentangle the explanatory factors of the data. Previous analyses of such approaches have largely focused on individual contrastive losses, such as noise-contrastive estimation (NCE) and InfoNCE, and rely on specific assumptions about the data generating process. This paper extends the theoretical guarantees for disentanglement to a broader family of contrastive methods, while also relaxing the assumptions about the data distribution. Specifically, we prove identifiability of the true latents for four contrastive losses studied in this paper, without imposing common independence assumptions. The theoretical findings are validated on several benchmark datasets. Finally, practical limitations of these methods are also investigated.

Retrieving relevant plots from the book for a query is a critical task, which can improve the reading experience and efficiency of readers. Readers usually only give an abstract and vague description as the query based on their own understanding, summaries, or speculations of the plot, which requires the retrieval model to have a strong ability to estimate the abstract semantic associations between the query and candidate plots. However, existing information retrieval (IR) datasets cannot reflect this ability well. In this paper, we propose Plot Retrieval, a labeled dataset to train and evaluate the performance of IR models on the novel task Plot Retrieval. Text pairs in Plot Retrieval have less word overlap and more abstract semantic association, which can reflect the ability of the IR models to estimate the abstract semantic association, rather than just traditional lexical or semantic matching. Extensive experiments across various lexical retrieval, sparse retrieval, dense retrieval, and cross-encoder methods compared with human studies on Plot Retrieval show current IR models still struggle in capturing abstract semantic association between texts. Plot Retrieval can be the benchmark for further research on the semantic association modeling ability of IR models.

However, deploying these models has been challenging due to the astronomical amount of model parameters, which requires a demand for large memory capacity and high memory bandwidth. In this paper, we propose an effective approach that can make the deployment of LLMs more efficiently. We support an automatic INT4 weight-only quantization flow and design a special LLM runtime with highly-optimized kernels to accelerate the LLM inference on CPUs. We demonstrate the general applicability of our approach on popular LLMs including Llama2, Llama, GPT-NeoX, and showcase the extreme inference efficiency on CPUs. Recent works have shown that the computational efficiency of 3D medical image (e.g. CT and MRI) segmentation can be impressively improved by dynamic inference based on slice-wise complexity. As a pioneering work, a dynamic architecture network for medical volumetric segmentation (i.e. Med-DANet) has achieved a favorable accuracy and efficiency trade-off by dynamically selecting a suitable 2D candidate model from the pre-defined model bank for different slices. However, the issues of incomplete data analysis, high training costs, and the two-stage pipeline in Med-DANet require further improvement. To this end, this paper further explores a unified formulation of the dynamic inference framework from the perspective of both the data itself and the model structure. For each slice of the input volume, our proposed method dynamically selects an important foreground region for segmentation based on the policy generated by our Decision Network and Crop Position Network. Besides, we propose to insert a stage-wise quantization selector to the employed segmentation model (e.g. U-Net) for dynamic architecture adapting. Extensive experiments on BraTS 2019 and 2020 show that our method achieves comparable or better performance than previous state-of-the-art methods with much less model complexity. Compared with previous methods Med-DANet and TransBTS with dynamic and static architecture respectively, our framework improves the model efficiency by up to nearly 4.1 and 17.3 times with comparable segmentation results on BraTS 2019.

We determine the absolute branching fraction of $D^+_s\to K^+K^+π^-$ to be (${1.23^{+0.28}_{-0.25}}({\rm stat})\pm0.06({\rm syst})$) $\times 10^{-4}$. No significant signal of $D^+_s\to K^+K^+π^-π^0$ is observed and the upper limit on its decay branching fraction at 90\% confidence level is set to be $1.7\times10^{-4}$.

We present a comprehensive study of the kinematic properties of the different Galactic disk populations, as defined by the chemical abundance ratios and stellar ages, across a large disk volume (4.5 $\leq$ R $\leq$ 15.0 kpc and $|Z|$ $\leq$ 3.0 kpc), by using the LAMOST-Gaia red clump sample stars. We determine the median velocities for various spatial and population bins, finding large-scale bulk motions, such as the wave-like behavior in radial velocity, the north-south discrepancy in azimuthal velocity and the warp signal in vertical velocity, and the amplitudes and spatial-dependences of those bulk motions show significant variations for different mono-age and mono-abundance populations. The global spatial behaviors of the velocity dispersions clearly show a signal of spiral arms and, a signal of the disk perturbation event within 4 Gyr, as well as the disk flaring in the outer region (i.e., $R \ge 12$ kpc) mostly for young or alpha-poor stellar populations. Our detailed measurements of age/[$α$/Fe]-velocity dispersion relations for different disk volumes indicate that young/$α$-poor populations are likely originated from dynamically heated by both giant molecular clouds and spiral arms, while old/$α$-enhanced populations require an obvious contribution from other heating mechanisms such as merger and accretion, or born in the chaotic mergers of gas-rich systems and/or turbulent interstellar medium.

The nature of pseudogap lies at the heart of strongly-interacting superconductivity and superfluidity. With known pairing interactions, unitary Fermi gases provide an ideal testbed to verify whether a pseudogap can arise from many-body pairing. Here we report the observation of the long-sought pair-fluctuation-driven pseudogap in homogeneous unitary Fermi gases of lithium-6 atoms, by precisely measuring the spectral function through momentum-resolved microwave spectroscopy without the serious effects of final-state effect. We find a large pseudogap above the superfluid transition. The inverse pair lifetime exhibits a thermally-activated exponential behavior, uncovering the microscopic virtual pair breaking and recombination mechanism. The obtained large, T-independent single-particle scattering rate is comparable with that set by the Planckian limit. Our findings quantitatively characterize the pseudogap in strongly-interacting Fermi gases, highlighting the role of preformed pairing as a precursor to superfluidity.

Magnetic skyrmions offer promising prospects for constructing future energy-efficient and high-density information technology, leading to extensive explorations of new skyrmionic materials recently. The topological Hall effect has been widely adopted as a distinctive marker of skyrmion emergence. Alternately, here we propose a novel signature of skyrmion state by quantitatively investigating the magnetoresistance (MR) induced by skyrmionic bubbles in CeMn2Ge2. An intriguing finding was revealed: the anomalous MR measured at different temperatures can be normalized into a single curve, regardless of sample thickness. This behavior can be accurately reproduced by the recent chiral spin textures MR model. Further analysis of the MR anomaly allowed us to quantitatively examine the effective magnetic fields of various scattering channels. Remarkably, the analyses, combined with the Lorentz transmission electronic microscopy results, indicate that the in-plane scattering channel with triplet exchange interactions predominantly governs the magnetotransport in the Bloch-type skyrmionic bubble state. Our results not only provide insights into the quantum correction on MR induced by skyrmionic bubble phase, but also present an electrical probing method for studying chiral spin texture formation, evolution and their topological properties, which opens up exciting possibilities for identifying new skyrmionic materials and advancing the methodology for studying chiral spin textures.

Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) has been haunted by the need of pinning down memory regions. Pinning limits the memory utilization because it impedes on-demand paging and swap**. It also increases the initialization latency of large memory applications from seconds to minutes. To remove memory pining, existing approaches often require special hardware which supports page fault, and still have inferior performance. We propose NP-RDMA, which removes memory pinning during memory registration and enables dynamic page fault handling with commodity RDMA NICs. NP-RDMA does not require NICs to support page fault. Instead, by monitoring local memory paging and swap** with MMU-notifier, combining with IOMMU/SMMU-based address map**, NP-RDMA efficiently detects and handles page fault in the software with near-zero additional latency to non-page-fault RDMA verbs. We implement an LD_PRELOAD library (with a modified kernel module), which is fully compatible with existing RDMA applications. Experiments show that NP-RDMA adds only 0.1{\sim}2 μs latency under non-page-fault scenarios. Moreover, NP-RDMA adds only 3.5{\sim}5.7 μs and 60 μs under minor or major page faults, respectively, which is 500x faster than ODP which uses advanced NICs that support page fault. With non-pinned memory, Spark initialization is 20x faster and the physical memory usage reduces by 86% with only 5.4% slowdown. Enterprise storage can expand to 5x capacity with SSDs while the average latency is only 10% higher. To the best of our knowledge, NP-RDMA is the first efficient and application-transparent software approach to remove memory pinning using commodity RDMA NICs.
