HoFe1-xMnxO3 (0 < x < 1) single crystals have been grown by the optical floating zone technique. A structural transition from the orthorhombic to hexagonal modification has been established in the crystals in the concentration range of 0.7-0.8, which has been confirmed by the X-ray diffraction data. For a series of the rhombic crystals, the room-temperature Mossbauer study and magnetic measurements in the temperature range of 4.2-1000 K have been carried out. It has been observed that, with an increase in the manganese content in the samples, the temperature of the spin-reorientation transition increases significantly: from 60 K in the HoFeO3 compound to room temperature in HoFe0.6Mn0.4O3. The magnetic measurements have shown that, upon substitution of manganese for iron, the magnetic orientational type transition changes from a second-order transition (AxFyGz -> CxGyFz) to first-order one (AxFyGz -> GxCyAz) with a weak ferromagnetic moment only in the b direction (for Pnma notation). The growth of the spin-reorientation transition temperature has been attributed to the change in the value of the indirect exchange in the iron subsystem under the action of manganese, which has been found when studying the Mossbauer effect in the HoFe1-xMnxO3 (x < 0.4) compound.

Structural, magnetic and multiferroic properties of single crystals of Dy$_{1-x}$Ho$_x$MnO$_3$ ($x = 0, 0.2$) were investigated by the different methods of polarized and classical neutron diffraction and macroscopic methods in order to determine the effect of Ho do** on the magneto-electric behavior of the title compounds. It is shown that substitution by Ho of 20% on the position of Dy do not change overall crystal symmetry of compound. It remains of Pnma type for both compositions down to the very low temperatures. Magnetic ordering do not change the crystal structure. Precise magnetic order and it detailed temperature and field evolution both in the pristine and substituted compounds we determined using single crystal neutron diffraction and magnetization measurements. The results show a complex interplay between transition metal and rear earth magnetic sub lattices leading to so-called "Mn-controlled" and "Dy-controlled" magnetic states. Using polarized neutron diffraction 3D character of rear earth magnetic order in Dy$_{0.8}$Ho$_{0.2}$MnO$_3$ in contract to DyMnO$_3$ and occurrence of the chiral type magnetic structure on Mn subsystem could be revealed. The influence of the external electric field on the magnetic chirality could be directly evidenced, proving strong magneto-electric coupling in multiferroic phase. The study of the electric polarization under similar temperatures and fields on the same samples provides the direct correlation between the results of the microscopic and macroscopic investigations.

The low-temperature spin dynamics of the orthorhombic TbFeO$_3$ perovskite has been studied. It has been found that the inelastic neutron scattering (INS) spectrum contains two modes corresponding to different sublattices in the compound. The iron subsystem orders antiferromagnetically at T$_N$ = 632 K and exhibits the high-energy magnon dispersion. Magnetic dynamics of this subsystem has been described using the linear spin wave theory and our solution yields sizable anisotropy between in-plane and out-of-plane exchange interactions. This approach was previously used to describe the magnon dispersion in the TmFeO$_3$ compound. Three non-dispersive crystal electric field levels corresponding to Tb$^{3+}$ ions have been established in the region below 40 meV at about 17, 26, and 35 meV. Study of diffuse scattering at different temperatures has elucidated the behavior of the magnetic correlation length. The behavior of the Tb$^{3+}$ ion subsystem has been numerically described in the framework of the point charge model. The numerical data agree satisfactorily with the experiment and with the general concept of the single-ion approximation applied to the rare-earth subsystem of orthorhombic perovskites.

The interplay between the external magnetic field, Dzyaloshinsky-Moria antisymmetric exchange and isotropic exchange interactions between Fe and Ho sublattice and inside Fe sublattice provides a rich phase diagram. As the result of the balance of exchange interactions inside crystal and external magnetic field we found 8 different magnetic phases, produced or suppressed by the field.

In this paper we present a comprehensive study of magnetic dynamics in the rare-earth orthoferrite YbFeO$_3$ at temperatures below and above the spin-reorientation (SR) transition $T_{\mathrm{SR}}=7.6$ K, in magnetic fields applied along the $a, b$ and $c$ axes. Using single-crystal inelastic neutron scattering, we observed that the spectrum of magnetic excitations consists of two collective modes well separated in energy: 3D gapped magnons with a bandwidth of $\sim$60 meV, associated with the antiferromagnetically (AFM) ordered Fe subsystem, and quasi-1D AFM fluctuations of $\sim$1 meV within the Yb subsystem, with no hybridization of those modes. The spin dynamics of the Fe subsystem changes very little through the SR transition and could be well described in the frame of semiclassical linear spin-wave theory. On the other hand, the rotation of the net moment of the Fe subsystem at $T_{\mathrm{SR}}$ drastically changes the excitation spectrum of the Yb subsystem, inducing the transition between two regimes with magnon and spinon-like fluctuations. At $T < T_{\mathrm{SR}}$, the Yb spin chains have a well defined field-induced ferromagnetic (FM) ground state, and the spectrum consists of a sharp single-magnon mode, a two-magnon bound state, and a two-magnon continuum, whereas at $T > T_{\mathrm{SR}}$ only a gapped broad spinon-like continuum dominates the spectrum. In this work we show that a weak quasi-1D coupling within the Yb subsystem $J_\text{Yb-Yb}$, mainly neglected in previous studies, creates unusual quantum spin dynamics on the low energy scales. The results of our work may stimulate further experimental search for similar compounds with several magnetic subsystems and energy scales, where low-energy fluctuations and underlying physics could be "hidden" by a dominating interaction.

We report the low temperature magnetic properties of the DyScO$_3$ perovskite, which were characterized by means of single crystal and powder neutron scattering, and by magnetization measurements. Below $T_{\mathrm{N}}=3.15$ K, Dy$^{3+}$ moments form an antiferromagnetic structure with an easy axis of magnetization lying in the $ab$-plane. The magnetic moments are inclined at an angle of $\sim\pm{28}^{\circ}$ to the $b$-axis. We show that the ground state Kramers doublet of Dy$^{3+}$ is made up of primarily $|\pm 15/2\rangle$ eigenvectors and well separated by crystal field from the first excited state at $E_1=24.9$ meV. This leads to an extreme Ising single-ion anisotropy, $M_{\perp}/M_{\|}\sim{0.05}$. The transverse magnetic fluctuations, which are proportional to $M^{2}_{\perp}/M^{2}_{\|}$, are suppressed and only moment fluctuations along the local Ising direction are allowed. We also found that the Dy-Dy dipolar interactions along the crystallographic $c$-axis are 2-4 times larger than in-plane interactions.

The current-voltage characteristics of a porous superconductor Bi2Sr2Ca2Cu3Ox (Bi2223) have been measured at temperature range from 10 to 90 K. The experimental dependences have been analyzed within the model allowing for pinning by clusters of a normal phase with fractal boundaries, as well as the model taking into account phase transformations of vortex matter. It has been found that the electrical resistance of the superconductor material significantly increases at temperatures of 60-70 K over the entire range of magnetic fields under consideration without changing in the sign of the curvature of the R(I) dependence. The melting of the vortex structure occurs at these temperatures. It has been assumed that this behavior is associated with the specific feature of the pinning in a highly porous high-temperature superconductor, which lies in the fractal distribution of pinning centers in a wide range of self-similarity scales.

Magnetoresistance relaxation with a characteristic time of 10 -3 s was found. It has been established that the temperature dependence of the relaxation parameter τ(t) at different temperatures correlates with the temperature dependence of electrical resistance R(T). The proposed relaxation mechanism is related to relaxation of conducting and dielectric phases in the sample volume under phase stratification conditions. It is shown that relaxation parameter τ reflects the number of boundaries in the volume and not the ratio between phase fractions.
