This study investigates the spatial and temporal characteristics of L1 amplitude scintillation-causing ionospheric irregularities over the Eastern Arabian Peninsula during the ascending phase of solar cycle 25 (years 2020--2023). The temporal occurrences of weak and strong scintillation were separated by sunset, with weak scintillation observed predominantly pre-sunset during the winter solstice and strong scintillation observed mainly post-sunset during the autumnal equinox. Strong scintillation was much more pronounced in 2023 compared to the other three years, indicating a strong influence of solar activity. Spatially, weak-scintillation-causing irregularities exhibited a wide distribution in azimuth and elevation, while strong-scintillation-causing irregularities were concentrated southwards. The combined analysis of S4 and rate of total electron content index (ROTI) suggested that small-scale ionospheric irregularities were present in both pre- and post-sunset periods, while large-scale irregularities were only seen during the post-sunset period. Furthermore, the presence of southward traveling ionospheric disturbances (TIDs) during the 2023 autumnal equinox was confirmed with the total electron content anomaly ($Δ\text{TEC}$), while the Ionospheric Bubble Index (IBI) provided by the Swarm mission was unable to confirm the presence of equatorial plasma bubbles during the same period. Observations from the FORMOSAT-7/COSMIC-2 mission indicated that strong-scintillation-causing irregularities were more prevalent under the F2-layer peak, while the weak-scintillation-causing irregularities were mostly observed at the E-layer, F2-layer, and above the F2-layer.

The availability of Martian atmospheric data provided by several Martian missions broadened the opportunity to investigate and study the conditions of the Martian ionosphere. As such, ionospheric models play a crucial part in improving our understanding of ionospheric behavior in response to different spatial, temporal, and space weather conditions. This work represents an initial attempt to construct an electron density prediction model of the Martian ionosphere using machine learning. The model targets the ionosphere at solar zenith ranging from 70 to 90 degrees, and as such only utilizes observations from the Mars Global Surveyor mission. The performance of different machine learning methods was compared in terms of root mean square error, coefficient of determination, and mean absolute error. The bagged regression trees method performed best out of all the evaluated methods. Furthermore, the optimized bagged regression trees model outperformed other Martian ionosphere models from the literature (MIRI and NeMars) in finding the peak electron density value, and the peak density height in terms of root-mean-square error and mean absolute error.

Due to digitalization in everyday life, the need for automatically recognizing handwritten digits is increasing. Handwritten digit recognition is essential for numerous applications in various industries. Bengali ranks the fifth largest language in the world with 265 million speakers (Native and non-native combined) and 4 percent of the world population speaks Bengali. Due to the complexity of Bengali writing in terms of variety in shape, size, and writing style, researchers did not get better accuracy using Supervised machine learning algorithms to date. Moreover, fewer studies have been done on Bangla handwritten digit recognition (BHwDR). In this paper, we proposed a novel CNN-based pre-trained handwritten digit recognition model which includes Resnet-50, Inception-v3, and EfficientNetB0 on NumtaDB dataset of 17 thousand instances with 10 classes.. The Result outperformed the performance of other models to date with 97% accuracy in the 10-digit classes. Furthermore, we have evaluated the result or our model with other research studies while suggesting future study

Electron density irregularities present within the ionosphere induce significant fluctuations in global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signals. Fluctuations in signal power are referred to as amplitude scintillation and can be monitored through the S4 index. Forecasting the severity of amplitude scintillation based on historical S4 index data is beneficial when real-time data is unavailable. In this work, we study the possibility of using historical data from a single GPS scintillation monitoring receiver to train a machine learning (ML) model to forecast the severity of amplitude scintillation, either weak, moderate, or severe, with respect to temporal and spatial parameters. Six different ML models were evaluated and the bagged trees model was the most accurate among them, achieving a forecasting accuracy of $81\%$ using a balanced dataset, and $97\%$ using an imbalanced dataset.

The corresponding quasielastic barrier distribution has been derived from the excitation function, both including and excluding the $α$-particles produced in the reaction. The centroid of the barrier distribution obtained after inclusion of $α$-particles was found to be shifted higher in energy, compared to the distribution excluding the $α$-particles. The quasielastic data, excluding the $α$-particles, have been analyzed in the framework of continuum discretized coupled channel calculations. The quasielastic barrier distribution for $^{7}$Li+$^{159}$Tb, has also been compared with the fusion barrier distribution for the system.

Hindman and Leader first introduced the notion of semigroup of ultrafilters converging to zero for a dense subsemigroups of $((0,\infty),+)$. Using the algebraic structure of the Stone-$\breve{C}$ech compactification, Tootkabani and Vahed generalized and extended this notion to an idempotent instead of zero, that is a semigroup of ultrafilters converging to an idempotent $e$ for a dense subsemigroups of a semitopological semigroup $(T, +)$ and they gave the combinatorial proof of central set theorem near $e$. Algebraically one can also define quasi-central sets near $e$ for dense subsemigroups of $(T, +)$. In a dense subsemigroup of $(T,+)$, C-sets near $e$ are the sets, which satisfy the conclusions of the central sets theorem near $e$. S. K. Patra gave dynamical characterizations of these combinatorially rich sets near zero. In this paper we shall prove these dynamical characterizations for these combinatorially rich sets near $e$.

Fusion excitation function of $^{35}$Cl + $^{130}$Te system is measured in the energy range around the Coulomb barrier and analyzed in the framework of the coupled-channels approach. The role of projectile deformation, nuclear structure, and the couplings of inelastic excitations and positive Q$-$value neutron transfer channels in sub-barrier fusion are investigated through the comparison of reduced fusion excitation functions of $^{35,37}$Cl +$^{130}$Te systems. The reduced fusion excitation function of $^{35}$Cl + $^{130}$Te system shows substantial enhancement over $^{37}$Cl + $^{130}$Te system in sub-barrier energy region which is attributed to the presence of positive Q-value neutron transfer channels in $^{35}$Cl + $^{130}$Te system. Findings of this work strongly suggest the importance of +2$n$ - transfer coupling in sub-barrier fusion apart from the simple inclusion of inelastic excitations of interacting partners, and are in stark contrast with the results presented by Kohley \textit{et al.}, [Phys. Rev. Lett. 107, 202701 (2011)].

Presence of closed proton and/or neutron shells causes deviation from macroscopic properties of nuclei which are understood in terms of the liquid drop model. It is important to investigate experimentally the stabilizing effects of shell closure, if any, against fission. This work aims to investigate probable effects of proton shell ($Z = 82$) closure in the compound nucleus, in enhancing survival probability of the evaporation residues formed in heavy ion-induced fusion-fission reactions. Evaporation residue cross sections have been measured for the reactions $^{19}$F+$^{180}$Hf, $^{19}$F+$^{181}$Ta and $^{19}$F+$^{182}$W from $\simeq9\%$ below to $\simeq42\%$ above the Coulomb barrier, leading to formation of compound nuclei with same number of neutrons ($N = 118$) but different number of protons across $Z = 82$. Measured excitation functions have been compared with statistical model calculation, in which reduced dissipation coefficient is the only adjustable parameter. Evaporation residue cross section, normalized by capture cross section, is found to decrease gradually with increasing fissility of the compound nucleus. Measured evaporation residue cross sections require inclusion of nuclear viscosity in the model calculations. Reduced dissipation coefficient in the range of 1\textendash3 $\times$ $10^{21}$ s$^{-1}$ reproduces the data quite well. No abrupt enhancement of evaporation residue cross sections has been observed in the reaction forming compound nucleus with $Z = 82$. Thus, this work does not find enhanced stabilizing effects of $Z = 82$ shell closure against fission in the compound nucleus. One may attempt to measure cross sections of individual exit channels for further confirmation of our observation.

A steeper fall of fusion excitation function, compared to the predictions of coupled-channels models, at energies below the lowest barrier between the reaction partners, is termed as deep sub-barrier fusion hindrance. This phenomenon has been observed in many symmetric and nearly-symmetric systems. Different physical origins of the hindrance have been proposed. This work aims to study the probable effects of direct reactions on deep sub-barrier fusion cross sections. Fusion (evaporation residue) cross sections have been measured for the system $^{19}$F+$^{181}$Ta, from above the barrier down to the energies where fusion hindrance is expected to come into play. Coupled-channels calculation with standard Woods-Saxon potential gives a fair description of the fusion excitation function down to energies $\simeq 14\%$ below the barrier for the present system. This is in contrast with the observation of increasing fusion hindrance in asymmetric reactions induced by increasingly heavier projectiles, \textit{viz.} $^{6,7}$Li, $^{11}$B, $^{12}$C and $^{16}$O. The asymmetric reactions, which have not shown any signature of fusion hindrance within the measured energy range, are found to be induced by projectiles with lower $α$ break-up threshold, compared to the reactions which have shown signatures of fusion hindrance. In addition, most of the $Q$-values for light particles pick-up channels are negative for the reactions which have exhibited strong signatures of fusion hindrance, \textit{viz.} $^{12}$C+$^{198}$Pt and $^{16}$O+$^{204,208}$Pb. Thus, break-up of projectile and particle transfer channels with positive $Q$-values seem to compensate for the hindrance in fusion deep below the barrier. Inclusion of break-up and transfer channels within the framework of coupled-channels calculation would be of interest.

Background: The influence of shell effect on the dynamics of the fusion fission process and it's evolution with excitation energy in the pre-actinide Hg-Pb region in general is a matter of intense research in recent years. In particular, a strong ambiguity remains for the neutron shell closed $^{210}$Po nucleus regarding the role of shell effect in fission around $\approx$ 30 - 40 MeV of excitation energy. Purpose: We have measured the fission fragment mass distribution of $^{210}$Po populated using fusion of $^{4}$He + $^{206}$Pb at different excitation energies and compare the result with recent theoretical predictions as well as with our previous measurement for the same nucleus populated through a different entrance channel. Mass distribution in the fission of the neighbouring nuclei $^{213}$At is also studied for comparison. Methods: Two large area Multi-wire Proportional Counters (MWPC) were used for complete kinematical measurement of the coincident fission fragments. The time of flight differences of the coincident fission fragments were used to directly extract the fission fragment mass distributions. Results: The measured fragment mass distribution for the reactions $^{4}$He + $^{206}$Pb and $^{4}$He + $^{209}$Bi were symmetric and the width of the mass distributions were found to increase monotonically with excitation energy above 36.7 MeV and 32.9 MeV, respectively, indicating the absence of shell effects at the saddle. However, in the fission of $^{210}$Po, we find minor deviation from symmetric mass distributions at the lowest excitation energy (30.8 MeV). Conclusion: Persistence of shell effect in fission fragment mass distribution of $^{210}$Po was observed at the excitation energy $\approx$ 31 MeV as predicted by the theory; at higher excitation energy, however, the present study reaffirms the absence of any shell correction in the fission of $^{210}$Po.
