An Algorithm to Parallelise Parton Showers on a GPU
Abstract: The Single Instruction, Multiple Thread (SIMT) paradigm of GPU programming does not support the branching nature of a parton shower algorithm by definition. However, modern GPUs are designed to schedule threads with diverging processes independently, allowing them to handle such branches. With regular thread synchronisation and careful treatment of the individual steps, one can simulate a parton s… ▽ More

Generalized angular-order parton showers in Herwig 7

Novel approach to measure quark/gluon jets at the LHC
Abstract: In this paper, we present a new proposal on how to measure quark/gluon jet properties at the LHC. The measurement strategy takes advantage of the fact that the LHC has collected data at different energies. Measurements at two or more energies can be combined to yield distributions of any jet property separated into quark and gluon jet samples on a statistical basis, without the need for an indepen… ▽ More

A standard convention for particle-level Monte Carlo event-variation weights
Abstract: Streams of event weights in particle-level Monte Carlo event generators are a convenient and immensely CPU-efficient approach to express systematic uncertainties in phenomenology calculations, providing systematic variations on the nominal prediction within a single event sample. Extracting sigma_effective from the LHCb double-charm measurement
Abstract: We discuss various issues related to the definition of single and double open charm cross sections. We conclude that LHCb's extraction of sigma_effective, the effective cross section for double-parton scattering, is too large by a factor of two. This correction brings the data from open-charm pairs closer to that from J/psi plus open charm and jet production.

Underlying events in Herwig++
Abstract: In this contribution we describe the new model of multiple partonic interactions (MPI) that has been implemented in Herwig++. Tuning its two free parameters is enough to find a good description of CDF underlying event data. We show extrapolations to the LHC and compare them to results from other models.

Herwig++ Status Report
Abstract: Herwig++ is the successor of the event generator HERWIG. In its present version 2.2.1 it provides a program for full LHC event generation which is superior to the previous program in many respects. We briefly summarize its features and describe present work and some future plans.

Super-leading logarithms in non-global observables in QCD: Colour basis independent calculation
Abstract: In a previous paper we reported the discovery of super-leading logarithmic terms in a non-global QCD observable. In this short update we recalculate the first super-leading logarithmic contribution to the 'gaps between jets' cross-section using a colour basis independent notation. This sheds light on the structure and origin of the super-leading terms and allows them to be calculated for gluon s… ▽ More

The Underlying Event and the Total Cross Section from Tevatron to the LHC
Abstract: Multiple partonic interactions are widely used to simulate the hadronic final state in high energy hadronic collisions, and successfully describe many features of the data. It is important to make maximum use of the available physical constraints on such models, particularly given the large extrapolation from current high energy data to LHC energies. In eikonal models, the rate of multiparton in… ▽ More

Herwig++ 2.2 Release Note
Abstract: A new release of the Monte Carlo program Herwig++ (version 2.2) is now available. This version includes a number of improvements including: matrix elements for the production of an electroweak gauge boson, W and Z, in association with a jet; several new processes for Higgs production in association with an electroweak gauge boson; and the matrix element correction for QCD radiation in Higgs prod… ▽ More

TeVJet: A general framework for the calculation of jet observables in NLO QCD
Abstract: In this paper we present the parton level Monte Carlo program TeVJet, a direct implementation of the dipole subtraction method for calculating jet cross sections in NLO QCD. It has been written so as to allow the inclusion of new processes in as straightforward a way as possible. The user must provide the usual ingredients for an NLO calculation and from these the process-independent parts requi… ▽ More
