Abstract:
Some idea, which leads to a non-trivial solution of the quantum four-simplex equation, is exposed in this paper. We call this idea "pentagonal algebra". Few examples of the realisation of this idea are given here, and thus few examples of $R$-matrix for the quantum four-simplex equation are presented.

Recently, Bazhanov and Sergeev have described an Ising-type integrable model which can be identified as a $\sinh$-Gordon-type model with an infinite number of states but with a real parameter $q$. This model is the subject of Sklyanin's Functional Bethe Ansatz. We develop in this paper the whole technique of the FBA which includes:
1. Construction of eigenstates of an off-diagonal element of a monodromy matrix. Most important ingredients of these eigenstates are the Clebsh-Gordan coefficients of the corresponding representation.
2. Separately, we discuss the Clebsh-Gordan coefficients, as well as the Wigner's 6j symbols, in details. The later are rather well known in the theory of $3D$ indices.
Thus, the Sklyanin basis of the quantum separation of variables is constructed. The matrix elements of an eigenstate of the auxiliary transfer matrix in this basis are products of functions satisfying the Baxter equation. Such functions are called usually the $Q$-operators. We investigate the Baxter equation and $Q$-operators from two points of view.
3. In the model considered the most convenient Bethe-type variables are the zeros of a Wronskian of two well defined particular solutions of the Baxter equation. This approach works perfectly in the thermodynamic limit. We calculate the distribution of these roots in the thermodynamic limit, and so we reproduce in this way the partition function of the model.
4. The real parameter $q$, which is the standard quantum group parameter, plays the role of the absolute temperature in the model considered. Expansion with respect to $q$ (tropical expansion) gives an alternative way to establish the structure of the eigenstates. In this way we classify the elementary excitations over the ground state.

In this paper we present a new solution of the star-triangle relation having positive Boltzmann weights. The solution defines an exactly solvable two-dimensional Ising-type (edge interaction) model of statistical mechanics where the local "spin variables" can take arbitrary integer values, i.e., the number of possible spin states at each site of the lattice is infinite. There is also an equivalent "dual" formulation of the model, where the spins take continuous real values on the circle. From algebraic point of view this model is closely related to the to the 6-vertex model. It is connected with the construction of an intertwiner for two infinite-dimensional representations of the quantum affine algebra $U_q(\widehat{sl}(2))$ without the highest and lowest weights. The partition function of the model in the large lattice limit is calculated by the inversion relation method. Amazingly, it coincides with the partition function of the off-critical 8-vertex free-fermion model.

We consider the eigenproblem for the Laplacian inside a three-dimensional revolutional domain diffeomorphic to a solid torus and construct asymptotic eigenvalues and eigenfunctions (quasimodes) of the whispering gallery-type. The whispering gallery-type asymptotics are localized near the boundary of the domain, and an explicit analytic representations in terms of Airy functions is constructed for such asymptotics. There are several different scales in the problem, which makes it possible to apply the procedure of adiabatic approximation in the form of operator separation of variables to reduce the initial problem to one-dimensional problems up to the small correction. We also discuss the relation between the constructed whispering gallery-type asymptotics and classical billiards in the corresponding domain, in particularly, such asymptotics correspond to almost integrable billiards with proper degeneracy. We illustrate the results in the case when a revolutional domain is obtained by rotation of the triangle with rounded wedges.

Maxmin-$ω$ dynamical systems were previously introduced as an ``all-in-one package'' that can yield a solely min-plus, a solely max-plus, or a max-min-plus dynamical system by varying a parameter $ω\in(0,1]$. With such systems in mind, it is natural to introduce and consider maxmin-$ω$ linear systems of equations of the type $A\otimes_ω x=b$. However, to our knowledge, such maxmin-$ω$ linear systems have not been studied before and in this paper we present an approach to solve them. We show that the problem can be simplified by performing normalization and then generating a ``canonical'' matrix which we call the principal order matrix. Instead of directly trying to find the solutions, we search the possible solution indices which can be identified using the principal order matrix and the parameter $ω$. The fully active solutions are then immediately obtained from these solution indices. With the fully active solutions at hand, we then present the method to find other solutions by applying a relaxation, i.e., increasing or decreasing some components of fully active solutions. This approach can be seen as a generalization of an approach that could be applied to solve max-plus or min-plus linear systems. Our results also shed more light on an unusual feature of maxmin-$ω$ linear systems, which, unlike in the usual linear algebra, can have a finite number of solutions in the case where their solution is non-unique.

Within the framework of numerical simulations, we study the gyrotron dynamics under conditions of a significant excess of the operating current over the starting value, when the generation of electromagnetic pulses with anomalously large amplitudes (``rogue waves'') can be realized. The averaged shape of high-power pulses is shown to be very close to the celebrated Peregrine breather. At the same time, we demonstrate that the relation between peak power and duration of rogue waves is self-similar, but does not reproduce the one characteristic for Peregrine breathers. Remarkably, the discovered self-similar relation corresponds to the exponential nonlinearity of an equivalent Schrödinger-like evolution equation. This interpretation can be used as a theoretical basis for explaining the giant amplitudes of gyrotron rogue waves.

We study the tropical analogue of the notion of polar of a cone, working over the semiring of tropical numbers with signs. We characterize the cones which arise as polars of sets of tropically nonnegative vectors by an invariance property with respect to a tropical analogue of Fourier-Motzkin elimination. We also relate tropical polars with images by the nonarchimedean valuation of classical polars over real closed nonarchimedean fields and show, in particular, that for semi-algebraic sets over such fields, the operation of taking the polar commutes with the operation of signed valuation (kee** track both of the nonarchimedean valuation and sign). We apply these results to characterize images by the signed valuation of classical cones of matrices, including the cones of positive semidefinite matrices, completely positive matrices, completely positive semidefinite matrices, and their polars, including the cone of co-positive matrices, showing that hierarchies of classical cones collapse under tropicalization. We finally discuss an application of these ideas to optimization with signed tropical numbers.

This includes current noise absorption methods, such as porous materials or acoustic resonators, which are typically inefficient below 1 kHz, or fundamentally narrowband. Here, we solve this vexing issue by introducing the concept of plasmacoustic metalayers. We demonstrate that the dynamics of small layers of air plasma can be controlled to interact with sound in an ultrabroadband way and over deep-subwavelength distances. Exploiting the unique physics of plasmacoustic metalayers, we experimentally demonstrate perfect sound absorption and tunable acoustic reflection over more than two frequency decades, from several Hz to the kHz range, with transparent plasma layers of thicknesses down to $λ/1000$. Such unprecedented bandwidth and compactness opens new doors in a variety of applications, including noise control, audio-engineering, room acoustics, imaging and metamaterial design.

We show that the arithmetic mean of the row sums of $A$ is bounded by the maximum and minimum spectral radius of the matrices in $Ω(A)$ Formally, we are showing that $$\min_{B\inΩ(A)}ρ(B)\leq \frac{1}{n}\sum_{i=1}^n\sum_{j=1}^n a_{i,j}\leq \max_{B\inΩ(A)}ρ(B).$$ For positive $A$ we also obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for one of these inequalities (or, equivalently, both of them) to become an equality. We also give criteria which an irreducible matrix $C$ should satisfy to have $ρ(C)=\min_{B\inΩ(A)} ρ(B)$ or $ρ(C)=\max_{B\inΩ(A)} ρ(B)$. We show that the celebrated six-vertex model of statistical mechanics (along with its multistate generalizations) can be reformulated as an Ising-type model with only a two-spin interaction. Such a reformulation unravels remarkable factorization properties for row to row transfer matrices, allowing one to uniformly derive all functional relations for their eigenvalues and present the coordinate Bethe ansatz for the eigenvectors for all higher spin generalizations of the six-vertex model. The possibility of the Ising-type formulation of these models raises questions about the precedence of the traditional quantum group description of the vertex models. Indeed, the role of a primary integrability condition is now played by the star-triangle relation, which is not entirely natural in the standard quantum group setting, but implies the vertex-type Yang-Baxter equation and commutativity of transfer matrices as simple corollaries. As a mathematical identity the emerging star-triangle relation is equivalent to the Pfaff-Saalschuetz-Jackson summation formula, originally discovered by J.~F.~Pfaff in 1797. Plausibly, all vertex models associated with quantized affine Lie algebras and superalgebras can be reformulated as Ising-type models with only two-spin interactions.

Multiband optical photometry data of blazar S5 0716+714 obtained from 2002 to 2019 reveal stable color index change with flux variability. We analyzed this trend under variability caused by the Doppler factor change in the presence of a curved photon energy spectrum. A break in the energy spectrum of emitting electrons, caused by radiative losses, or log-parabolic electron energy distribution, or the synchrotron self-absorption acting in a compact jet part forms such the photon spectrum. We explained the observed color index change with variability by geometric effects only under the assumption that the radiating region is the synchrotron self-absorbed core and the bright optically thin jet. In this framework, we estimated the magnetic field strength in the optically thick part of the radiating region. These values correspond to other independent estimates of the magnetic field near the black hole, further supporting our assumption.

We also show that the suggested extremality criteria can be verified in $O(n^2)$ time for any given solution $\textbf{x}$.

In the majority of active sound absorbing systems, a conventional electrodynamic loudspeaker is used as a controlled source. However, particular situations may require an actuator that is more resistant to harsh environments, adjustable in shape, and lighter. In this work, a plasma-based electroacoustic actuator operating on the atmospheric corona discharge principle is used to achieve sound absorption in real-time. Two control strategies are introduced and tested for both normal in the impedance tube and grazing incidence in the flow duct. The performance of plasma-based active absorber is competitive with conventional passive technologies in terms of effective absorption bandwidth and low-frequency operation, however, it presents some inherent limitations that are discussed. The study reveals that the corona discharge technology is suitable for active noise control in ducts while offering flexibility in design, compactness, and versatility of the absorption frequency range.

We are considering a two-stage optimal scheduling problem, which involves two similar projects with the same starting times for workers and the same deadlines for tasks. It is required that the starting times for workers and deadlines for tasks should be optimal for the first-stage project and, under this condition, also for the second-stage project. Optimality is measured with respect to the maximal lateness (or maximal delay) of tasks, which has to be minimized. We represent this problem as a problem of tropical pseudoquadratic optimization and show how the existing methods of tropical optimization and tropical linear algebra yield a full and explicit solution for this problem.

From superconductors to atomic nuclei, strongly-interacting many-body systems are ubiquitous in nature. Measuring the microscopic structure of such systems is a formidable challenge, often met by particle knockout scattering experiments. While such measurements are fundamental for map** the structure of atomic nuclei, their interpretation is often challenged by quantum mechanical initial- and final-state interactions (ISI/FSI) of the incoming and scattered particles. Here we overcome this fundamental limitation by measuring the quasi-free scattering of 48 GeV/c 12C ions from hydrogen. The distribution of single protons is studied by detecting two protons at large angles in coincidence with an intact 11B nucleus. The 11B detection is shown to select the transparent part of the reaction and exclude the otherwise large ISI/FSI that would break the 11B apart. By further detecting residual 10B and 10Be nuclei, we also identified short-range correlated (SRC) nucleon-nucleon pairs, and provide direct experimental evidence for the separation of the pair wave-function from that of the residual many-body nuclear system. All measured reactions are well described by theoretical calculations that do not contain ISI/FSI distortions. Our results thus showcase a new ability to study the short-distance structure of short-lived radioactive atomic nuclei at the forthcoming FAIR and FRIB facilities. These studies will be pivotal for develo** a ground-breaking microscopic understanding of the structure and properties of nuclei far from stability and the formation of visible matter in the universe.

Tropical linear algebra has been recently put forward by Grigoriev and Shpilrain as a promising platform for implementation of protocols of Diffie-Hellman and Stickel type. Based on the CSR expansion of tropical matrix powers, we suggest a simple algorithm for the following tropical discrete logarithm problem: "Given that $A=V\otimes F^{\otimes t}$ for a unique $t$ and matrices $A$, $V$, $F$ of appropriate dimensions, find this $t$." We then use this algorithm to suggest a simple attack on a protocol based on the tropical semidirect product. The algorithm and the attack are guaranteed to work in some important special cases and are shown to be efficient in our numerical experiments.

For a long time, band theory of solids has focused on the energy spectrum, or Hamiltonian eigenvalues. Recently, it was realized that the collection of eigenvectors also contains important physical information. The local geometry of eigenspaces determines the electric polarization, while their global twisting gives rise to the metallic surface states in topological insulators. These phenomena are central topics of the present notes. The shape of eigenspaces is also responsible for many intriguing physical analogies, which have their roots in the theory of vector bundles. We give an informal introduction to the geometry and topology of vector bundles and describe various physical models from this mathematical perspective.

We present geometric and dynamical modeling of the broad line region for the multi-wavelength reverberation map** campaign focused on NGC 5548 in 2014. The dataset includes photometric and spectroscopic monitoring in the optical and ultraviolet, covering the H$β$, C IV, and Ly$α$ broad emission lines. We find an extended disk-like H$β$ BLR with a mixture of near-circular and outflowing gas trajectories, while the C IV and Ly$α$ BLRs are much less extended and resemble shell-like structures. There is clear radial structure in the BLR, with C IV and Ly$α$ emission arising at smaller radii than the H$β$ emission. Using the three lines, we make three independent black hole mass measurements, all of which are consistent. Combining these results gives a joint inference of $\log_{10}(M_{\rm BH}/M_\odot) = 7.64^{+0.21}_{-0.18}$. We examine the effect of using the $V$ band instead of the UV continuum light curve on the results and find a size difference that is consistent with the measured UV-optical time lag, but the other structural and kinematic parameters remain unchanged, suggesting that the $V$ band is a suitable proxy for the ionizing continuum when exploring the BLR structure and kinematics. Finally, we compare the H$β$ results to similar models of data obtained in 2008 when the AGN was at a lower luminosity state. We find that the size of the emitting region increased during this time period, but the geometry and black hole mass remain unchanged, which confirms that the BLR kinematics suitably gauge the gravitational field of the central black hole.

Rational combination of plasmonic and all-dielectric concepts within unique hybrid nanomaterials provides promising route toward devices with ultimate performance and extended modalities. However, spectral matching of plasmonic and Mie-type resonances for such nanostructures can only be achieved for their dissimilar characteristic sizes, thus making the resulting hybrid nanostructure geometry complex for practical realization and large-scale replication. Here, we produced unique amorphous TiO$_2$ nanospheres simultaneously decorated and doped with Au nanoclusters via single-step nanosecond-laser ablation of commercially available TiO$_2$ nanopowders dispersed in aqueous HAuCl$_4$. The fabricated hybrids demonstrate remarkable light-absorbing properties (averaged value $\approx$ 96%) in the visible and near-IR spectral range mediated by bandgap reduction of the laser-processed amorphous TiO$_2$, as well as plasmon resonances of the decorating Au nanoclusters, which was confirmed by combining optical spectroscopy, advanced electron energy loss spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and electromagnetic modeling. Excellent light-absorbing and plasmonic properties of the produced hybrids were implemented to demonstrate catalytically passive SERS biosensor for identification of analytes at trace concentrations and solar steam generator that permitted to increase water evaporation rate by 2.5 times compared with that of pure water under identical one-sun irradiation conditions.

Results of the analysis of the variability of the H$β$ and H$α$ broad emission-line profiles and the He II $\lambda4686$A emission-line fluxes in the 3C 390.3 nucleus during 1992-2014 are present. The observed velocity-dependent lag for the Balmer lines is similar to that expected from the Keplerian disc configuration, although there are some differences. Probably, a radial infall motion can be present in the broad-line region of 3C 390.3 in addition to the Keplerian rotation. The lag of the broad He II line is $26\pm 8$d, significantly less than that of the Balmer lines, so the He II emission region is much smaller in size. In terms of the power-law relationship between line and optical continuum fluxes with slowly varying scalefactor $c(t)$: $F_{line}\propto c(t)\,F_{cont}^a$, the power $a$ is $1.03$ for the broad He II line, while according to Paper I the power is equal to $0.77$ and $0.54$ for the broad H$β$ and H$α$ lines, respectively. It means that the variability amplitude is the largest in the He II, less in H$β$, and more less in H$α$. However, the Balmer lines contain a long-term trend that is not seen in the helium line. The narrow He II line is variable with the amplitude (max-to-min ratio) $R_{max}\approx 3$ that is much greater than the variability amplitudes of both the narrow Balmer lines and the narrow [O III] $λ$5007A line.

Building on the weak CSR approach developed in a previous paper by Merlet, Nowak and Sergeev, we establish new bounds for the periodicity threshold of the powers of a tropical matrix. According to that approach, bounds on the ultimate periodicity threshold take the form of T=max(T_1,T_2), where T_1 is a bound on the time after which the weak CSR expansion starts to hold and T_2 is a bound on the time after which the first CSR term starts to dominate.
The new bounds on T_1 and T_2 established in this paper make use of the cyclicity of the associated graph and the (tropical) factor rank of the matrix, which leads to much improved bounds in favorable cases. For T_1, in particular, we obtain new extensions of bounds of Schwarz, Kim and Gregory-Kirkland-Pullman, previously known as bounds on exponents of digraphs. For similar bounds on T_2, we introduce the novel concept of walk reduction threshold and establish bounds on it that use both cyclicity and factor rank.

We report velocity-delay maps for prominent broad emission lines, Ly_alpha, CIV, HeII and H_beta, in the spectrum of NGC5548. The emission-line responses inhabit the interior of a virial envelope. The velocity-delay maps reveal stratified ionization structure. The HeII response inside 5-10 light-days has a broad single-peaked velocity profile. The Ly_alpha, CIV, and H_beta responses peak inside 10 light-days, extend outside 20 light-days, and exhibit a velocity profile with two peaks separated by 5000 km/s in the 10 to 20 light-day delay range. The velocity-delay maps show that the M-shaped lag vs velocity structure found in previous cross-correlation analysis is the signature of a Keplerian disk with a well-defined outer edge at R=20 light-days. The outer wings of the M arise from the virial envelope, and the U-shaped interior of the M is the lower half of an ellipse in the velocity-delay plane. The far-side response is weaker than that from the near side, so that we see clearly the lower half, but only faintly the upper half, of the velocity--delay ellipse. The delay tau=(R/c)(1-sin(i))=5 light-days at line center is from the near edge of the inclined ring, giving the inclination i=45 deg. A black hole mass of M=7x10^7 Msun is consistent with the velocity-delay structure. A barber-pole pattern with stripes moving from red to blue across the CIV and possibly Ly_alpha line profiles suggests the presence of azimuthal structure rotating around the far side of the broad-line region and may be the signature of precession or orbital motion of structures in the inner disk. Further HST observations of NGC 5548 over a multi-year timespan but with a cadence of perhaps 10 days rather than 1 day could help to clarify the nature of this new AGN phenomenon.

The X-ray and $γ$-ray light curves correlate well, with no delay > 3 hours, implying general co-spatiality of the emission regions. The $γ$-ray-optical flux-flux relation changes with activity state, ranging from a linear to a more complex dependence. The behaviour of the Stokes parameters at optical and radio wavelengths, including 43 GHz VLBA images, supports either a predominantly helical magnetic field or motion of the radiating plasma along a spiral path. Apparent speeds of emission knots range from 10 to 37c, with the highest values requiring bulk Lorentz factors close to those needed to explain $γ$-ray variability on very short time scales. The Mg II emission line flux in the `blue' and `red' wings correlates with the optical synchrotron continuum flux density, possibly providing a variable source of seed photons for inverse Compton scattering. In the radio bands we find progressive delays of the most prominent light curve maxima with decreasing frequency, as expected from the frequency dependence of the $τ=1$ surface of synchrotron self-absorption. The global maximum in the 86 GHz light curve becomes less prominent at lower frequencies, while a local maximum, appearing in 2014, strengthens toward decreasing frequencies, becoming pronounced at $\sim5$ GHz. These tendencies suggest different Doppler boosting of stratified radio-emitting zones in the jet.

We model the ultraviolet spectra of the Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC~5548 obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope during the 6-month reverberation-map** campaign in 2014. Our model of the emission from NGC 5548 corrects for overlying absorption and deblends the individual emission lines. Using the modeled spectra, we measure the response to continuum variations for the deblended and absorption-corrected individual broad emission lines, the velocity-dependent profiles of Ly$α$ and C IV, and the narrow and broad intrinsic absorption features. We find that the time lags for the corrected emission lines are comparable to those for the original data. The velocity-binned lag profiles of Ly$α$ and C IV have a double-peaked structure indicative of a truncated Keplerian disk. The narrow absorption lines show delayed response to continuum variations corresponding to recombination in gas with a density of $\sim 10^5~\rm cm^{-3}$. The high-ionization narrow absorption lines decorrelate from continuum variations during the same period as the broad emission lines. Analyzing the response of these absorption lines during this period shows that the ionizing flux is diminished in strength relative to the far-ultraviolet continuum. The broad absorption lines associated with the X-ray obscurer decrease in strength during this same time interval. The appearance of X-ray obscuration in $\sim\,2012$ corresponds with an increase in the luminosity of NGC 5548 following an extended low state. We suggest that the obscurer is a disk wind triggered by the brightening of NGC 5548 following the decrease in size of the broad-line region during the preceding low-luminosity state.

The concept of the Zak phase lies at the core of the modern theory of electric polarization. It is defined using the components of the Bloch wave functions in a certain basis, which is not captured by the standard expression for Berry potential. We provide a consistent geometric interpretation of the Zak phase in terms of projected connections. In the context of Bloch states, we relate the transformation law of projected Berry potential with classical currents that contribute to the time derivative of the electric polarization. This gives a new argument for the Zak phase formula for the electronic contribution to the polarization. We demonstrate that the Wannier functions play a key role in the description of an adiabatic current in a periodic system.

We present the first results from a reverberation-map** campaign undertaken during the first half of 2012, with additional data on one AGN (NGC 3227) from a 2014 campaign. Our main goals are (1) to determine the black hole masses from continuum-Hbeta reverberation signatures, and (2) to look for velocity-dependent time delays that might be indicators of the gross kinematics of the broad-line region. We successfully measure Hbeta time delays and black hole masses for five AGNs, four of which have previous reverberation mass measurements. The values measured here are in agreement with earlier estimates, though there is some intrinsic scatter beyond the formal measurement errors. We observe velocity dependent Hbeta lags in each case, and find that the patterns have changed in the intervening five years for three AGNs that were also observed in 2007.

Abstract:
In this paper we provide a new graph theoretic proof of the tropical Jacobi identity, recently obtained in [AGN16]. We also develop an application of this theorem to optimal assignments with supervisions. That is, optimally assigning multiple tasks to one team, or daily tasks to multiple teams, where each team has a supervisor task or a supervised task.

Abstract:
Using the concept of (K,L)-eigenvector, we investigate the structure of the max-min eigenspace associated with a given eigenvalue of a matrix in the max-min algebra (also known as fuzzy algebra). In our approach, the max-min eigenspace is split into several regions according to the order relations between the eigenvalue and the components of x. The resulting theory of (K,L)-eigenvectors, being based on the fundamental results of Gondran and Minoux, allows to describe the whole max-min eigenspace explicitly and in more detail.

We apply methods and techniques of tropical optimization to develop a new theoretical and computational framework for the implementation of the Analytic Hierarchy Process in multi-criteria problems of rating alternatives from pairwise comparison data. In this framework, we first consider the minimax Chebyshev approximation of pairwise comparison matrices by consistent matrices in the logarithmic scale. Recasting this approximation problem as a problem of tropical pseudo-quadratic programming we then write out a closed-form solution to it. This solution might be either a unique score vector (up to a positive factor) or a set of different score vectors. To handle the problem when the solution is not unique, we develop tropical optimization techniques of maximizing and minimizing the Hilbert seminorm to find those vectors from the solution set that are the most and least differentiating between the alternatives with the highest and lowest scores, and thus are well representative of the entire solution set.

We apply methods and techniques of tropical optimization to develop a new theoretical and computational framework for the implementation of the Analytic Hierarchy Process in multi-criteria problems of rating alternatives from pairwise comparison data. The framework involves the Chebyshev approximation of pairwise comparison matrices by consistent matrices in the logarithmic scale. We reduce the log-Chebyshev approximation to multidimensional tropical optimization problems, and offer complete direct solutions to the problems in the framework of tropical mathematics. The results obtained provide a closed-form solution to the rating problem of interest as either a unique score vector (up to a positive factor) or as a set of different score vectors. To handle the problem when the solution is not unique, we develop tropical optimization techniques to find those vectors from the solution set that are the most and least differentiating between the alternatives with the highest and lowest scores, and thus can be well representative of the entire solution.

We present optical continuum lags for two Seyfert 1 galaxies, MCG+08-11-011 and NGC 2617, using monitoring data from a reverberation map** campaign carried out in 2014. Our light curves span the ugriz filters over four months, with median cadences of 1.0 and 0.6 days for MCG+08-11-011 and NGC\,2617, respectively, combined with roughly daily X-ray and near-UV data from Swift for NGC 2617. We find lags consistent with geometrically thin accretion-disk models that predict a lag-wavelength relation of $τ\propto λ^{4/3}$. However, the observed lags are larger than predictions based on standard thin-disk theory by factors of 3.3 for MCG+08-11-011 and 2.3 for NGC\,2617. These differences can be explained if the mass accretion rates are larger than inferred from the optical luminosity by a factor of 4.3 in MCG+08-11-011 and a factor of 1.3 in NGC\,2617, although uncertainty in the SMBH masses determines the significance of this result. While the X-ray variability in NGC\,2617 precedes the UV/optical variability, the long 2.6 day lag is problematic for coronal reprocessing models.
