We revisit the short-range baryon-baryon potentials in the flavor SU(3) sector, using the constituent quark model. We employ the color Coulomb, linear confining, and color magnetic forces between two constituent quarks, and solve the three-quark Schrödinger equation using the Gaussian expansion method to evaluate the wave functions of the octet $( N , Λ, Σ, Ξ)$ and decuplet $( Δ, Σ^{\ast} , Ξ^{\ast} , Ω)$ baryons. We then solve the six-quark equation using the resonating group method and systematically calculate equivalent local potentials for the $S$-wave two-baryon systems which reproduce the relative wave functions of two baryons in the resonating group method. As a result, we find that the flavor antidecuplet states with total spin $J = 3$, namely, $ΔΔ$, $ΔΣ^{\ast}$, $ΔΞ^{\ast}$-$Σ^{\ast} Σ^{\ast}$, and $ΔΩ$-$Σ^{\ast} Ξ^{\ast}$ systems, have attractive potentials sufficient to generate dibaryon bound states as hadronic molecules. In addition, the $N Ω$ system with $J = 2$ in coupled channels has a strong attraction and forms a bound state. We also make a comparison with the baryon-baryon potentials from lattice QCD simulations and try to understand the behavior of the potentials from lattice QCD simulations.

The meson-baryon molecular components for the $N^{\ast}$ and $Δ^{\ast}$ resonances are investigated in terms of the compositeness, which is defined as the norm of the two-body wave function from the meson-baryon scattering amplitudes. The scattering amplitudes are constructed in a $πN$-$ηN$-$σN$-$ρN$-$πΔ$ coupled-channels problem in a meson exchange model together with several bare $N^{\ast}$ and $Δ^{\ast}$ states, and parameters are fitted so as to reproduce the on-shell $πN$ partial wave amplitudes up to the center-of-mass energy 1.9 GeV with the orbital angular momentum $L \le 2$. As a result, the Roper resonance $N (1440)$ is found to be dominated by the $πN$ and $σN$ molecular components while the bare-state contribution is small. The squared wave functions in coordinate space imply that both in the $πN$ and $σN$ channels the separation between the meson and baryon is about more than 1 fm for the $N (1440)$ resonance. On the other hand, dominant meson-baryon molecular components are not observed in any other $N^{\ast}$ and $Δ^{\ast}$ resonances in the present model, although they have some fractions of the meson-baryon clouds.

We investigate theoretically the $K^{0} p$ invariant mass spectrum of the $K^{+} d \to K^{0} p p$ reaction and scrutinize how the signal of the "$Θ^{+}$" pentaquark, if it exists, emerges in the $K^{0} p$ spectrum. The most prominent advantage of this reaction is that we can clearly judge whether the "$Θ^{+}$" exists or not as a direct-formation production without significant backgrounds, in contrast to other reactions such as photoproduction and $π$-induced productions. We show that while the impulse or single-step scattering process can cover the "$Θ^{+}$" energy region with an initial kaon momentum $k_{\mathrm{lab}} \approx 0.40\, \mathrm{GeV} / c$ in the laboratory frame, the contributions from double-step processes may have a potential possibility to reach the "$Θ^{+}$" energy region with a higher kaon momentum $k_{\mathrm{lab}} \sim 1 \, \mathrm{GeV} / c$. Assuming that the full decay width of the "$Θ^{+}$" is around $0.5\, \mathrm{MeV}$, we predict that the magnitude of the peak corresponding to the "$Θ^+$" is around a few hundred $μ\mathrm{b}$ to $1\, \mathrm{mb}$ with the momentum of the kaon beam $k_{\mathrm{lab}} \approx 0.40\, \mathrm{GeV} / c$ while it is around $\lesssim 1\, μ\mathrm{b}$ with $k_{\mathrm{lab}} \approx 0.85\, \mathrm{GeV} / c$. Thus, the "$Θ^+$" peak is more likely to be seen at $k_{\mathrm{lab}} \approx 0.40\, \mathrm{GeV} / c$ than at $k_{\mathrm{lab}} \approx 0.85 \,\mathrm{GeV} / c$.

Furthermore, we can reproduce almost quantitatively the experimental data of the $Λp$ invariant mass spectrum in the momentum transfer window $350 \text{ MeV} /c < q_{Λp} < 650 \text{ MeV} /c$. These facts strongly suggest that the $\bar{K} N N$ bound state was indeed generated in the J-PARC E15 experiment.

This state behaves like an explicit pentaquark state because its minimal quark configuration is $u u d s \bar{c}$ or $u d d s \bar{c}$. Owing to the attraction between every pair of two hadrons, in particular the $\bar{K}\bar{D}$ attraction which dynamically generates $D_{s 0} (2317)^{-}$ and $\bar{K} N$ attraction which dynamically generates $Λ(1405)$, the $\bar{K}\bar{D} N$ system is bound, and its eigenenergy is calculated as $3244 - 17 i$ MeV in a nonrelativistic three-body potential model. Based on a baryon-baryon interaction model with meson exchanges, we investigate the origin of the strong attraction in the $N Ω( {}^{5}S_{2} )$ interaction, which was indicated by recent lattice QCD simulations. The long range part of the potential is constructed by the conventional mechanisms, the exchanges of the $η$ meson and of the correlated two mesons in the scalar-isoscalar channel, denoted by "$σ$" in the literature. The short range part is represented by the contact interaction. We find that the meson exchanges do not provide sufficient attraction. This means that most of the attraction is attributed to the short range contact interaction. We then evaluate the effect of the coupled channels to the $N Ω( {}^{5}S_{2} )$ interaction. We find that, while the $D$-wave mixing of the $N Ω$ channel is negligible, the inelastic $ΛΞ$, $ΣΞ$, and $ΛΞ(1530)$ channels via the $K$ meson exchange give the attraction of the $N Ω( {}^{5}S_{2} )$ interaction to the same level with the elastic meson exchanges. Although the elimination of these channels induces the energy dependence of the single-channel $N Ω$ interaction, this effect is not significant. With the present model parameters fitted to reproduce the scattering length of the HAL QCD result of the nearly physical quark masses, we obtain the $N Ω( {}^{5}S_{2} )$ quasibound state with its eigenenergy $2611.3 - 0.7 i$ MeV, which corresponds to the binding energy $0.1$ MeV and width $1.5$ MeV for the decay to the $ΛΞ$ and $ΣΞ$ channels. From the analysis of the spatial structure and the compositeness, the quasibound state is shown to be the molecular state of $NΩ$. We also construct an equivalent local potential for the $N Ω( {}^{5}S_{2} )$ system which is useful for various applications.

Then, in order to investigate the feasibility from an experimental point of view, we calculate the cross section of the $γd \to ηd$ reaction at the photon energy in the laboratory frame around 1.2 GeV. As a result, we find a clear peak structure with the strength $\sim$ 0.2 nb/sr, corresponding to a signal of the $η^{\prime} d$ bound state in case of backward $η$ emission. This structure will be prominent because a background contribution coming from single-step $η$ emission off a bound nucleon is highly suppressed. In addition, the signal can be seen even in case of forward $η$ emission as a bump or dip, depending on the relative phase between the bound-state formation and the single-step background.

In the case of In films in the monolayer regime, $T_c$ exhibits a quadratic-like $H_\parallel$ dependence, which is one order of magnitude stronger than that previously observed in monolayer Pb films by the present authors [Phys. Rev. Lett. 111, 057005 (2013)]. The results are well reproduced by a model developed for an inhomogeneous two-dimensional superconducting state in the presence of a moderate Rashba spin-orbit interaction. The Rashba spin splitting is estimated to be 0.04 eV, which is much smaller than that expected for monolayer Pb films. In a few-monolayer Bi film, the suppression of $T_c$ with increasing $H_\parallel$ is comparable to that in monolayer Pb films. On the other hand, much stronger suppression, which is attributed to the Pauli paramagnetic effect, was observed for the Al film.

Recently, the compositeness, defined as the norm of a two-body wave function for bound and resonance states, has been investigated to discuss the internal structure of hadrons in terms of hadronic molecular components. From the studies of the compositeness, it has been clarified that the two-body wave function of a bound state can be extracted from the residue of the scattering amplitude at the bound state pole. Of special interest is that the two-body wave function from the scattering amplitude is automatically normalized. In particular, while the compositeness is unity for energy-independent interactions, it deviates from unity for energy-dependent interactions, which can be interpreted as a missing-channel contribution. In this manuscript, we show the formulation of the two-body wave function from the scattering amplitude, evaluate the compositeness for several dynamically generated resonances such as $f_{0} (980)$, $Λ(1405)$, and $Ξ(1690)$, and investigate their internal structure in terms of the hadronic molecular components.

Heavy ion collisions (HIC) at high energies are excellent ways for producing heavy hadrons and composite particles. With upgraded detectors at RHIC and LHC, it has become possible to measure hadrons beyond their ground states. Therefore, HIC provide a new method for studying exotic hadrons that are either hadronic molecular states or compact multiquark systems. Because their structures are related to the fundamental properties of QCD, studying exotic hadrons is currently one of the most active areas of research in hadron physics. Experiments carried out at various accelerator facilities have indicated that some exotic hadrons may have already been produced. The present review is a summary of the current understanding of a selected set of exotic particle candidates that can be potentially measured in HIC. It also includes discussions on the production of exotic hadrons in HIC based on the coalescence and statistical models. A more detailed discussion leads to the conclusion that the yield of a hadron is typically an order of magnitude smaller when it is a compact multiquark state than that of an excited hadronic state with normal quark numbers and/or a molecular configuration. Attention is also given to some of the proposed heavy exotic hadrons that could be produced with sufficient abundance in HIC because of the significant numbers of charm and bottom quarks produced at RHIC and LHC, making it possible to study them in these experiments. Further included in the discussion are the general formalism for the coalescence model that involves resonance particles and its implication on the present estimated yield for resonance production. Finally, a review is given on recent studies to constrain the hadron-hadron interaction through correlation measurements in HIC and their implications on the interpretation and the possible existence of exotic states in hadronic interactions.

We explain a method to find internal quark configurations of exotic hadron candidates by using the constituent counting rule. The counting rule was theoretically predicted in perturbative QCD for hard exclusive hadron reactions, and it has been tested in experiments for stable hadrons including compound systems of hadrons such as the deuteron, $^3$H, and $^3$He. It indicates that the cross section scales as $dσ/dt \sim 1/s^{n-2}$, where $s$ is the center-of-mass energy squared and $n$ is the total number of constituents. We apply this method for finding internal configurations of exotic hadron candidates, especially $Λ(1405)$. There is a possibility that $Λ(1405)$ could be five-quark state or a $\bar K N$ molecule, and scaling properties should be different between the ordinary three-quark state or five-quark one. We predict such a difference in $π^- + p \to K^0 + Λ(1405)$, and it could be experimentally tested, for example, at J-PARC. On the other hand, there are already measurements for $γ+ p \to K^+ + Λ(1405)$ as well as the ground $Λ$ in photoproduction reactions. Analyzing such data, we found an interesting indication that $Λ(1405)$ looks like a five-quark state at medium energies and a three-quark one at high energies. However, accurate higher-energy measurements are necessary for drawing a solid conclusion, and it should be done at JLab by using the updated 12 GeV electron beam. Furthermore, we discuss studies of exotic hadron candidates, such as $f_0 (980)$ and $a_0 (980)$, in electron-positron annihilation by using generalized distribution amplitudes and the counting rule. These studies should be possible as a KEKB experiment.

For a general two-body bound state in quantum mechanics, both in the stable and decaying cases, we establish a way to extract its two-body wave function in momentum space from the scattering amplitude of the constituent two particles. For this purpose, we first show that the two-body wave function of the bound state corresponds to the residue of the off-shell scattering amplitude at the bound state pole. Then, we examine our scheme to extract the two-body wave function from the scattering amplitude in several schematic models. As a result, the two-body wave functions from the Lippmann--Schwinger equation coincides with that from the Schrödinger equation for an energy-independent interaction. Of special interest is that the two-body wave function from the scattering amplitude is automatically scaled; the norm of the two-body wave function, to which we refer as the compositeness, is unity for an energy-independent interaction, while the compositeness deviates from unity for an energy-dependent interaction, which can be interpreted to implement missing channel contributions. We also discuss general properties of the two-body wave function and compositeness for bound states in the schematic models.

A theoretical investigation is done to clarify the origin of the peak structure observed near the $K^{-} p p$ threshold in the in-flight ${}^{3}\text{He} ( K^{-}, \, Λp ) n$ reaction of the J-PARC E15 experiment, which could be a signal of the lightest kaonic nuclei, that is, the $\bar{K} N N (I=1/2)$ state. For the investigation, we evaluate the $Λp$ invariant mass spectrum assuming two possible scenarios to interpret the experimental peak. One assumes that the $Λ(1405)$ resonance is generated after the emission of an energetic neutron from the absorption of the initial $K^-$, not forming a bound state with the remaining proton. This uncorrelated $Λ(1405) p$ system subsequently decays into the final $Λp$. The other scenario implies that, after the emission of the energetic neutron, a $\bar{K} N N$ bound state is formed, decaying eventually into a $Λp$ pair. Our results show that the experimental signal observed in the in-flight ${}^{3}\text{He} ( K^{-} , \, Λp ) n$ reaction at J-PARC is qualitatively well reproduced by the assumption that a $\bar{K} N N$ bound state is generated in the reaction, definitely discarding the interpretation in terms of an uncorrelated $Λ(1405) p$ state.

Possibilities of observing a signal of an $η^{\prime} n$ bound state are investigated by considering photoproductions of the $η$ and $η^{\prime}$ mesons on a deuteron target with forward proton emission. For this purpose, we take the $η^{\prime} n$ interaction from the linear sigma model with a coupling to $ηn$, in which an $s$-wave $η^{\prime} n$ bound state can be dynamically generated, and we fix the $γp \to ηp$ and $η^{\prime} p$ scattering amplitudes so as to reproduce the experimental cross sections with forward proton emission. By using these $γp \to η^{( \prime )} p$ and $η^{( \prime )} n \to η^{( \prime )} n$ amplitudes, we calculate cross sections of the $γd \to ηn p$ and $η^{\prime} n p$ reactions with forward proton emission in single and $η^{(\prime )}$-exchange double scattering processes. As a result, we find that the signal of the $η^{\prime} n$ bound state can be seen below the $η^{\prime} n$ threshold in the $ηn$ invariant mass spectrum of the $γd \to ηn p$ reaction and is comparable with the contribution from the quasifree $η^{\prime}$ production above the $η^{\prime} n$ threshold. We also discuss the behavior of the signal of the $η^{\prime} n$ bound state in several experimental conditions and model parameters.

In this review we give a perspective of the theoretical work done recently on the interpretation of results from $B$, $D$, $Λ_b$, $Λ_c$ weak decays into final states that contain interacting hadrons, and how it is possible to obtain additional valuable information that is increasing our understanding of hadron interactions and the nature of many hadronic resonances. The novelty of these processes is that one begins with a clean picture at the quark level which allows one to select the basic mechanisms by means of which the process proceeds. Finally, one has a final state described in terms of quarks. To make contact with the experiments, where mesons and baryons are observed, one must hadronize, creating pairs of $q \bar q$ and writing the new states in terms of mesons and baryons. This concludes the primary hadron production in these processes. After that, the interaction of these hadrons takes place, offering a rich spectrum of resonances and special features from where it is possible to learn much about the interaction of these hadrons and the nature of many resonances in terms of the components of their wave functions.

We analyze the CLAS data on the photoproduction of hyperon resonances, as well as the available data for the ground state $Λ$ and $Σ^{0}$ of the CLAS and SLAC-E84 collaborations, by considering constituent-counting rule suggested by perturbative QCD. The counting rule emerges as a scaling behavior of cross sections in hard exclusive reactions with large scattering angles, and it enables us to determine the number of elementary constituents inside hadrons. Therefore, it could be used as a new method for identifying internal constituents of exotic-hadron candidates. From the analyses of the $γ\, p \to K^{+} Λ$ and $K^{+} Σ^{0}$ reactions, we find that the number of the elementary constituents is consistent with $n_γ = 1$, $n_{p} = 3$, $n_{K^{+}} = 2$, and $n_Λ = n_{Σ^{0}} = 3$. Then, the analysis is made for the photoproductions of the hyperon resonances $Λ(1405)$, $Σ(1385)^{0}$, and $Λ(1520)$, where $Λ(1405)$ is considered to be a $\bar K N$ molecule and hence its constituent number could be five. However, we find that the current data are not enough to conclude the numbers of their constituent. It is necessary to investigate the higher-energy region at $\sqrt{s} > 2.8$ GeV experimentally beyond the energy of the available CLAS data for counting the number of constituents clearly. We also mention that our results indicate energy dependence in the constituent number, especially for $Λ(1405)$. If an excited hyperon is a mixture of three-quark and five-quark states, the energy dependence of the scaling behavior could be valuable for finding its composition and mixture.

We present a formulation of the compositeness for baryonic resonances in order to discuss the meson-baryon molecular structure inside the resonances. For this purpose, we derive a relation between the residue of the scattering amplitude at the resonance pole position and the two-body wave function of the resonance in a sophisticated way, and we define the compositeness as the norm of the two-body wave functions. As applications, we investigate the compositeness of the $Δ(1232)$, $N (1535)$, and $N (1650)$ resonances from precise $πN$ scattering amplitudes in a unitarized chiral framework with the interaction up to the next-to-leading order in chiral perturbation theory. The $πN$ compositeness for the $Δ(1232)$ resonance is evaluated in the $πN$ single-channel scattering, and we find that the $πN$ component inside $Δ(1232)$ in the present framework is nonnegligible, which supports the previous work. On the other hand, the compositeness for the $N (1535)$ and $N (1650)$ resonances is evaluated in a coupled-channels approach, resulting that the $πN$, $ηN$, $K Λ$ and $K Σ$ components are negligible for these resonances.

We evaluate the $πN$ compositeness of the $Δ(1232)$ resonance so as to clarify the internal structure of $Δ(1232)$ in terms of the $πN$ component. Here the compositeness is defined as contributions from two-body wave functions to the normalization of the total wave function and is extracted from the $πN$ scattering amplitude. In this study we employ the chiral unitary approach with the interaction up to the next-to-leading order plus a bare $Δ$ term in chiral perturbation theory and describe $Δ(1232)$ in an elastic $πN$ scattering. Fitting the $πN$ scattering amplitude to the solution of the partial wave analysis, we obtain a large real part of the $πN$ compositeness for $Δ(1232)$ comparable to unity and non-negligible imaginary part as well, with which we reconfirm the result in the previous study on the $πN$ compositeness for $Δ(1232)$.

We develop a theoretical framework to investigate the two-body composite structure of a resonance as well as a bound state from its wave function. For this purpose, we introduce both one-body bare states and two-body scattering states, and define the compositeness as a fraction of the contribution of the two-body wave function to the normalization of the total wave function. Writing down explicitly the wave function for a resonance state obtained with a general separable interaction, we formulate the compositeness in terms of the position of the resonance pole, the residue of the scattering amplitude at the pole and the derivative of the Green function of the free two-body scattering system. At the same time, our formulation provides the elementariness expressed with the resonance properties and the two-body effective interaction, and confirms the sum rule showing that the summation of the compositeness and elementariness gives unity. In this formulation the Weinberg's relation for the scattering length and effective range can be derived in the weak binding limit. The extension to the resonance states is performed with the Gamow vector, and a relativistic formulation is also established. As its applications, we study the compositeness of the $Λ(1405)$ resonance and the light scalar and vector mesons described with refined amplitudes in coupled-channel models with interactions up to the next to leading order in chiral perturbation theory. We find that $Λ(1405)$ and $f_{0}(980)$ are dominated by the $\bar{K} N$ and $K \bar{K}$ composite states, respectively, while the vector mesons $ρ(770)$ and $K^{\ast} (892)$ are elementary. We also briefly discuss the compositeness of $N (1535)$ and $Λ(1670)$ obtained in a leading-order chiral unitary approach.

We propose to use high-energy exclusive reactions for probing internal structure of exotic hadron candidates. First, the constituent counting rule of perturbative QCD can be used for finding internal configurations of an exotic hadron candidate. It is because the number of constituents ($n$), which participate in the exclusive reaction, is found by the scaling behavior of the cross section $dσ/dt \propto 1/s^{n-2}$ at large momentum transfer, where $s$ is the center-of-mass energy squared. As an example, we show that the internal structure of $Λ\, (1405)$ should be found, for example, by the reaction $π^- + p \to K^0 + Λ(1405)$. Second, the internal structure of exotic hadron candidates should be investigated by hadron tomography with generalized parton distributions (GPDs) and generalized distribution amplitudes (GDAs) in exclusive reactions. Exotic nature should be reflected in the GPDs which contain two factors, longitudinal parton distributions as indicated by the constituent counting rule and transverse form factors as suggested by the hadron size. The GDAs should be investigated by the two-photon process $γ^* γ\to h\bar h$, for example $h=f_0$ or $a_0$, in electron-positron annihilation. Since the GDAs contain information on a time-like form factor, exotic nature should be found by studying the $h\bar h$ invariant mass dependence of the cross section. The internal structure of exotic hadron candidates should be clarified by the exclusive reactions at facilities such as J-PARC and KEKB.

Structure of the $a_{0}(980)$ and $f_{0}(980)$ resonances is investigated with the $a_{0}(980)$-$f_{0}(980)$ mixing intensity from the viewpoint of compositeness, which corresponds to the amount of two-body states composing resonances as well as bound states. For this purpose we first formulate the $a_{0}(980)$-$f_{0}(980)$ mixing intensity as the ratio of two partial decay widths of a parent particle, in the same manner as the recent analysis in BES experiments. Calculating the $a_{0}(980)$-$f_{0}(980)$ mixing intensity with the existing Flatte parameters from experiments, we find that many combinations of the $a_{0}(980)$ and $f_{0}(980)$ Flatte parameters can reproduce the experimental value of the $a_{0}(980)$-$f_{0}(980)$ mixing intensity by BES. Next, from the same Flatte parameters we also calculate the $K \bar{K}$ compositeness for $a_{0}(980)$ and $f_{0}(980)$. Although the compositeness with the correct normalization becomes complex in general for resonance states, we find that the Flatte parameters for $f_{0}(980)$ imply large absolute value of the $K \bar{K}$ compositeness and the parameters for $a_{0}(980)$ lead to small but nonnegligible absolute value of the $K \bar{K}$ compositeness. Then, connecting the mixing intensity and the $K \bar{K}$ compositeness via the $a_{0}(980)$- and $f_{0}(980)$-$K \bar{K}$ coupling constants, we establish a relation between them. As a result, a small mixing intensity indicates a small value of the product of the $K \bar{K}$ compositeness for the $a_{0}(980)$ and $f_{0}(980)$ resonances. Moreover, the experimental value of the $a_{0}(980)$-$f_{0}(980)$ mixing intensity implies that the $a_{0}(980)$ and $f_{0}(980)$ resonances cannot be simultaneously $K \bar{K}$ molecular states.

The structures of the hyperon resonance $Λ(1405)$ and the scalar mesons $σ$, $f_{0}(980)$, and $a_{0}(980)$ are investigated based on the coupled-channels chiral dynamics with finite volume effect. The finite volume effect is utilized to extract the coupling constant, compositeness, and mean squared distance between two constituents of a Feshbach resonance state as well as a stable bound state. In this framework, the real-valued size of the resonance can be defined from the downward shift of the resonance pole according to the decreasing finite box size $L$ on a given closed channel. As a result, we observe that, when putting the $\bar{K}N$ and $K\bar{K}$ channels into a finite box while other channels being unchanged, the poles of the higher $Λ(1405)$ and $f_{0}(980)$ move to lower energies while other poles do not show downward mass shift, which implies large $\bar{K}N$ and $K\bar{K}$ components inside higher $Λ(1405)$ and $f_{0}(980)$, respectively. Extracting structures of $Λ(1405)$ and $f_{0}(980)$ in our method, we find that the compositeness of $\bar{K}N$ ($K\bar{K}$) inside $Λ(1405)$ [$f_{0}(980)$] is 0.82-1.03 (0.73-0.97) and the mean distance between two constituents is evaluated as 1.7-1.9 fm (2.6-3.0 fm).

Applying the formulation to $Λ(1405)$, we observe that the decay to $Λγ$ is dominated by the $K^{-}p$ component inside $Λ(1405)$, because in this decay $π^{+} Σ^{-}$ and $π^{-} Σ^{+}$ strongly cancel each other and the $πΣ$ component can contribute to the $Λγ$ decay only through the slight isospin breaking. This means that the decay $Λ(1405) \to Λγ$ is suitable for the study of the $\bar{K} N$ component in $Λ(1405)$. Fixing the $Λ(1405)$-$πΣ$ coupling constant from the usual decay of $Λ(1405) \to πΣ$, we show a relation between the absolute value of the $\bar{K} N$ compositeness for $Λ(1405)$ and the radiative decay width of $Λ(1405) \to Λγ$ and $Σ^{0} γ$, and we find that large decay width to $Λγ$ implies large $\bar{K}N$ compositeness for $Λ(1405)$. By using the "experimental" data on the radiative decay widths, which is based on an isobar model fitting of the $K^{-}p$ atom data, we estimate the $\bar{K}N$ compositeness for $Λ(1405)$. We also discuss the pole position dependence of our relation on the $Λ(1405)$ radiative decay width and the effects of the two-pole structure for $Λ(1405)$.

Two dimensional (2D) superconductivity was studied by magnetotransport measurements on single-atomic-layer Pb films on a cleaved GaAs(110) surface. The superconducting transition temperature shows only a weak dependence on the parallel magnetic field up to 14 T, which is higher than the Pauli paramagnetic limit. Furthermore, the perpendicular magnetic field dependence of the sheet resistance is almost independent of the presence of the parallel field component. These results are explained in terms of an inhomogeneous superconducting state predicted for 2D metals with a large Rashba spin splitting.

We propose to use hard exclusive production of an exotic hadron for finding its internal quark-gluon configuration by the constituent-counting rule in perturbative QCD. In particular, the cross section for the exclusive process $π^- + p \to K^0 + Λ(1405)$ is estimated at the scattering angle $θ=90^\circ$ in the center-of-mass frame by using current experimental data. In comparison, the cross section for the ground-state $Λ$ production $π^- + p \to K^0 + Λ$ is also shown. We suggest that the internal quark configuration of $Λ(1405)$ should be determined by the asymptotic scaling behavior of the cross section. If it is an ordinary three-quark baryon, the scaling of the cross section is $s^{8} dσ/dt=$constant, whereas it is $s^{10} dσ/dt=$constant if $Λ(1405)$ is a five-quark hadron, where $s$ and $t$ are Mandelstam variables. Such a measurement will be possible, for example, by using the high-momentum beamline at J-PARC. In addition, another exclusive process $γ+ p \to K^+ + Λ(1405)$ could be investigated at LEPS and JLab for finding the nature of $Λ(1405)$. We indicate that the constituent-counting rule could be used as a valuable quantity in determining internal structure of exotic hadrons by high-energy exclusive processes, where quark-gluon degrees of freedom explicitly appear. Furthermore, it is interesting to investigate the transition from hadron degrees of freedom to quark-gluon ones for exclusive exotic-hadron production processes.

For this purpose we take into account the p-wave amplitudes for the meson-baryon two-body scatterings as well as the s-wave amplitudes. Due to the fact that the hyperon resonances are selectively produced from the $\bar{K} N$ channel in this reaction, the $Λ(1405)$ peak appears at 1420 MeV, which implies that $Λ(1405)$ and $Σ(1385)$ could be separately seen in the missing mass spectrum of the emitted nucleon in the $K^{-} d \to n X$ reaction. The $πY$ invariant mass spectrum in this study is consistent with experimental data both for $Σ(1385)$ and $Λ(1405)$. The pion exchange contributions are also included and are found to give smooth background without distorting the peak structure of the hyperon resonances.

The structure of dynamically generated states is studied from a viewpoint of the finite volume effect. We establish the relation between the spatial size of a stable bound state and the finite volume mass shift. In a single-channel scattering model, this relation is shown to be valid for a bound state dominated by the two-body molecule component. We generalize this method to the case of a quasi-bound state with finite width in coupled-channel scattering. We define the real-valued size of the resonance in a given closed channel using the response to the finite volume effect on the channel. Applying this method to physical resonances we find that Lambda(1405) and f_{0}(980) are dominated by the Kbar N and K Kbar scattering states, respectively, and that the distance between Kbar N (K Kbar) inside Lambda(1405) [f_{0}(980)] is 1.7-1.9 fm (2.6-3.0 fm). The root mean squared radii of Lambda(1405) and f_0(980) are also estimated from the mean distance between constituents.

We do this in the present paper showing results using the Watson approach and the truncated Faddeev approach. We argue that the Watson approach is more suitable to study the reaction because it takes into account the potential energy of the nucleons forming the deuteron, which is neglected in the truncated Faddeev approach. Predictions for the experiment are done as well as spectra with the integrated neutron angle.

The branching ratios of K^- absorption at rest in nuclear matter are theoretically investigated in order to understand the mechanism of K^- absorption into nuclei. For this purpose mesonic and nonmesonic absorption potentials are evaluated as functions of nuclear density, the kaon momentum and energy from one- and two-body K^- self-energy, respectively. By using a chiral unitary approach for the s-wave Kbar N amplitude we find that both the mesonic and nonmesonic absorption potentials are dominated by the Lambda(1405) contributions. The fraction of the mesonic and nonmesonic absorptions are evaluated to be respectively about 70% and 30% at the saturation density almost independently on the kaon momentum. We also observe different behavior of the branching ratios to pi ^+ Sigma^- and pi^- Sigma^+ channels in mesonic absorption due to the interference between Lambda(1405) and the I=1 nonresonant background, which is consistent with experimental results. The nonmesonic absorption ratios [Lambda p]/[Sigma^0 p] and [Lambda n]/[Sigma^0 n] are about unity while [Sigma^+ n]/[Sigma^0 p] and [Sigma^- p]/[Sigma^0 n] are about two due to the Lambda(1405) dominance in absorption. Taking into account the kaon momenta and energies, the absorption potentials become weaker due to the downward shift of the initial K^-N two-body energy, but this does not drastirally change the nonmesonic fraction. The Sigma(1385) contribution in the p-wave Kbar N amplitude is examined and found to be very small compared to the Lambda(1405) contribution in slow K^- absorption.

We review recent work concerning the $\bar{K}N$ interaction and Faddeev equations with chiral dynamics which allow us to look at the $\bar{K}NN$ from a different perspective and pay attention to problems that have been posed in previous studies on the subject. We show results which provide extra experimental evidence on the existence of two $Λ(1405)$ states. We then show the findings of a recent approach to Faddeev equations using chiral unitary dynamics, where an explicit cancellation of the two body off shell amplitude with three body forces stemming from the same chiral Lagrangians takes place. This removal of the unphysical off shell part of the amplitudes is most welcome and renders the approach unambiguous, showing that only on shell two body amplitudes need to be used. With this information in mind we use an approximation to the Faddeev equations within the fixed center approximation to study the $\bar{K}NN$ system, providing answers within this approximation to questions that have been brought before and evaluating binding energies and widths of this three body system. As a novelty with respect to recent work on the topic we find a bound state of the system with spin S=1, like a bound state of $\bar{K}$-deuteron, less bound that the one of S=0, where all recent efforts have been devoted. The width is relatively large in this case, suggesting problems in a possible experimental observation.

An approach to approximate evaluation of the continuum Feynman path integrals is developed for the study of quantum fluctuations of particles and fields in Euclidean time-space. The paths are described by sum of Gauss functions and are weighted with exp(-S) by the Metropolis method. The weighted smooth paths reproduce properties of the ground state of the harmonic oscillator in one dimension with more than about 90 % accuracy, and the accuracy gets higher by using smaller width of the Gauss functions. Our approach is applied to quantum field theories and quantum fluctuations of U(1) and SU(2) gauge fields in four dimensions respectively provide the Coulomb force and confining linear potential at qualitative levels via the Wilson loops. Distributions of large values of gauge fields are found to be suppressed at least exponentially.

We investigate the possibilities of using measurements in present and future experiments on heavy ion collisions to answer some longstanding problems in hadronic physics, namely identifying hadronic molecular states and exotic hadrons with multiquark components. The yields of a selected set of exotic hadron candidates in relativistic heavy ion collisions are discussed in the coalescence model in comparison with the statistical model. We find that the yield of a hadron is typically an order of magnitude smaller when it is a compact multiquark state, compared to that of an excited hadronic state with normal quark numbers. We also find that some loosely bound hadronic molecules are formed more abundantly than the statistical model prediction by a factor of two or more. Moreover, due to the significant numbers of charm and bottom quarks produced at RHIC and even larger numbers expected at LHC, some of the proposed heavy exotic hadrons could be produced with sufficient abundance for detection, making it possible to study these new exotic hadrons in heavy ion collisions.
