Linear and weakly nonlinear stability analyses of an externally shear-imposed, gravity-driven falling film over a uniformly heated wavy substrate are studied. The longwave asymptotic expansion technique is utilized to formulate a single nonlinear free surface deflection equation. The linear stability criteria for the onset of instability are derived using the normal mode form in the linearized portion of the surface deformation equation. Linear stability theory reveals that the flow-directed sturdy external shear grows the surface wave instability by increasing the net driving force. On the contrary, the upstream-directed imposed shear may reduce the surface mode instability by restricting the gravity-driving force, which has the consequence of weakening the bulk velocity of the liquid film. However, the surface mode can be stabilized/destabilized by increasing the temperature-dependent density/surface-tension variation. Further, the bottom steepness shows dual behaviour on the surface instability depending upon the wavy wall's portion (uphill/downhill). At the downhill portion, the surface wave becomes more unstable than at the bottom substrate's uphill portion. Moreover, the multi-scale method is incorporated to obtain the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation in order to study the weakly nonlinear stability, confirming the existence of various flow regions of the liquid film. At any bottom portion (uphill/downhill), the flow-directed external shear expands the super-critical stable zones, which causes an amplification in the nonlinear wave amplitude, and the backflow-directed shear plays a counterproductive role. On the other hand, the super-critical stable region decreases or increases as long as the linear variation of density or surface tension increases with respect to the temperature, whereas the sub-critical unstable region exhibits an inverse trend.

The introduction of nonlinear nanophotonic devices to the field of optical frequency comb metrology has enabled new opportunities for low-power and chip-integrated clocks, high-precision frequency synthesis, and broad bandwidth spectroscopy. However, most of these advances remain constrained to the near-infrared region of the spectrum, which has restricted the integration of frequency combs with numerous quantum and atomic systems in the ultraviolet and visible. Here, we overcome this shortcoming with the introduction of multi-segment nanophotonic thin-film lithium niobate (LN) waveguides that combine engineered dispersion and chirped quasi-phase matching for efficient supercontinuum generation via the combination of $χ^{(2)}$ and $χ^{(3)}$ nonlinearities. With only 90 pJ of pulse energy at 1550 nm, we achieve gap-free frequency comb coverage spanning 330 to 2400 nm. The conversion efficiency from the near-infrared pump to the UV-Visible region of 350-550 nm is nearly 20%. Harmonic generation via the $χ^{(2)}$ nonlinearity in the same waveguide directly yields the carrier-envelope offset frequency and a means to verify the comb coherence at wavelengths as short as 350 nm. Our results provide an integrated photonics approach to create visible and UV frequency combs that will impact precision spectroscopy, quantum information processing, and optical clock applications in this important spectral window.

Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory cardiovascular disease in which fatty plaque is built inside an artery wall. Early atherosclerotic plaque development is typically characterised by inflammatory tissues primarily consisting of foam cells and macrophages. We present a multiphase model that explores early plaque growth to emphasise the role of cytokines (in particular, Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1) and oxidised low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL) in monocyte recruitment and foam cell production, respectively. The plaque boundary is assumed to move at the same speed as the inflammatory tissues close to the periphery. This study discusses oxLDL-induced toxic environment towards macrophages and foam cells such that they start to die beyond a threshold limit of oxLDL concentration owing to excessive consumption. Our findings reveal that initially, the plaque evolves rapidly, and the growth rate subsequently reduces because of oxLDL-induced toxicity. In addition, it is observed that the saturation of inflammatory cell volume fraction becomes independent of oxLDL concentration beyond the threshold limit, referred to as the oxLDL toxicity limit. Our study manifests that increased oxLDL flux promotes flattened plaque growth through oxLDL-induced toxicity, while elevated cytokines flux disrupts the corresponding flattened behaviour. Detailed analysis of the model presented in this article unfolds critical insights into the various biochemical and cellular mechanisms behind early plaque development.

Frequency combs with mode spacing in the range of 10 to 20 gigahertz (GHz) are critical for increasingly important applications such as astronomical spectrograph calibration, high-speed dual-comb spectroscopy, and low-noise microwave generation. While electro-optic modulators and microresonators can provide narrowband comb sources at this repetition rate, a significant remaining challenge is a means to produce pulses with sufficient peak power to initiate nonlinear supercontinuum generation spanning hundreds of terahertz (THz) as required for self-referencing in these applications. Here, we provide a simple, robust, and universal solution to this problem using off-the-shelf polarization-maintaining (PM) amplification and nonlinear fiber components. This fiber-integrated approach for nonlinear temporal compression and supercontinuum generation is demonstrated with a resonant electro-optic frequency comb at 1550 nm. We show how to readily achieve pulses shorter than 60 fs at a repetition rate of 20 GHz and with peak powers in excess of 2 kW. The same technique can be applied to picosecond pulses at 10 GHz to demonstrate temporal compression by a factor of 9x yielding 50 fs pulses with peak power of 5.5 kW. These compressed pulses enable flat supercontinuum generation spanning more than 600 nm after propagation through multi-segment dispersion-tailored anomalous-dispersion highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) or tantala waveguides. The same 10 GHz source can readily achieve an octave-spanning spectrum for self-referencing in dispersion-engineered silicon nitride waveguides. This simple all-fiber approach to nonlinear spectral broadening fills a critical gap for transforming any narrowband 10 to 20 GHz frequency comb into a broadband spectrum for a wide range of applications that benefit from the high pulse rate and require access to the individual comb modes.

This paper is concerned with the development and analysis of a mathematical model that is motivated by interstitial hydrodynamics and tissue deformation mechanics (poro-elasto-hydrodynamics) within an in-vitro solid tumor. The classical mixture theory is adopted for mass and momentum balance equations for a two-phase system. A main contribution of this study, we treat the physiological transport parameter (i.e., hydraulic resistivity) as anisotropic and heterogeneous, thus the governing system is strongly coupled and nonlinear. We derived a weak formulation and then formulated the equivalent fixed-point problem. This enabled us to use the Galerkin method, and the classical results on monotone operators combined with the well-known Schauder and Banach fixed point theorems to prove the existence and uniqueness results.

Several active organisms in nature tend to reside as a community in a viscous fluid medium. We analyze the variation of swimming characteristics of an active swimmer present in a dilute and disperse suspension, modeled as an effective Brinkman medium. This idealized representation of a collection of active swimmers allows one to distinguish the impact of the interior domain available to an individual swimmer as well as the contribution of its neighbors. Darcy's law along with the analytical solution enables the effective resistivity to be predicted as a function of the volume fraction which is in close agreement with the well-known Carman-Kozeny equation. This facilitates the successive analysis of the propulsion speed, power dissipation, and swimming efficiency of the targeted swimmer as a function of the volume fraction which is decisive in nutrient transport and uptake or reproduction in a collective environment. A stress-jump condition is also imposed across a cell to indicate a mean effective force due to the nearby swimmers. At suitable values of this stress-jump coefficient, the relative increase of the migration velocity and swimming efficiency is noticeably higher at an optimum occupancy.

Low noise and high repetition rate optical frequency combs are desirable for many applications from timekee** to precision spectroscopy. For example, gigahertz repetition rate sources greatly increase the acquisition speed of spectra in a dual-comb modality when compared to lower repetition rate sources, while still maintaining sufficient instantaneous resolution to resolve ro-vibrational signatures from molecules in a variety of conditions. In this paper, we present the stabilization and characterization of a turnkey commercial 1~GHz mode-locked laser that operates at telecom wavelengths (1.56 $μ$m). Fiber amplification and spectral broadening result in the high signal-to-noise ratio detection and stabilization of $\textit{f}_{\textit{ceo}}$ with 438 mrad of residual phase noise (integrated from 10$^2$ to 10$^7$ Hz). Simultaneously, we stabilize the beatnote between the nearest comb mode and a cavity stabilized continuous-wave laser at 1.55 $μ$m with 41 mrad of residual phase noise (integrated from 10$^2$ to 10$^7$ Hz). This robust, self-referenced comb system is built with off-the-shelf polarization-maintaining fiber components and will be useful for a wide range of low noise frequency comb applications that benefit from the increased repetition rate.

Fully developed forced convective flow in a channel filled with porous material bounded by two impermeable walls subject to constant heat flux is considered. We consider Brinkman-Forchhimer equation to govern the flow inside the porous medium which accounts for the presence of inertial term. We assume that the porous medium is anisotropic in nature and permeability is varying along all the directions, correspondingly, permeability will be a matrix which appear as a positive semi-definite matrix in the momentum equation. The anisotropic nature of the porous medium is characterized by anisotropic ratio and angle. We have obtained the velocity, temperature and Nusselt number numerically, due to the presence of the non-linear quadratic term in the momentum equation. The effect of anisotropic permeability ratio and anisotropic angle on hydrodynamic and heat transfer is shown. We see that Nusselt number is altered significantly with the anisotropic ratio and angle. We present a fresh analysis about the inclusion of the permeability matrix in the Brinkman-Forchhimer extended Darcy momentum equation. To the best of the authors knowledge, this is the first attempt to analyze general anisotropy corresponding to Brinkman-Forchhimer extended Darcy model.

The motion of a viscous drop is investigated when the interface is fully covered with a stagnant layer of surfactant in an arbitrary unsteady Stokes flow for the low surface Péclet number limit. The effect of the interfacial slip coefficient on the behavior of the flow field is also considered. The hydrodynamic problem is solved by the solenoidal decomposition method and the drag force is computed in terms of Faxen's laws using a perturbation ansatz in powers of the surface Péclet number. The analytical expressions for the migration velocity of the drop are also obtained in powers of the surface Péclet number. Further instances corresponding to a given ambient flow as uniform flow, Couette flow, Poiseuille flow are analyzed. Moreover, it is observed that, a surfactant-induced cross-stream migration of the drop occur towards the centre-line in both Couette flow and Poiseuille flow cases. The variation of the drag force and migration velocity is computed for different parameters such as Péclet number, Marangoni number etc.

We present the complete ground state phase diagram of the Holstein model in two and three dimension considering the phonon variables to be classical. We first establish the overall structure of the phase diagram by using exact diagonalisation based Monte Carlo (ED-MC) on small lattices and then use a new ``travelling cluster'' approximation (TCA) for annealing the phonon degrees of freedom on large lattices. The phases that emerge include a Fermi liquid (FL), with no lattice distortions, an insulating polaron liquid (PL) at strong coupling, and a charge ordered insulating (COI) phase around half- filling. The COI phase is separated from the Fermi liquid by a regime of phase coexistence whose width grows with increasing electron-phonon coupling. We provide results on the electronic density of states, the COI order parameter, and the spatial organisation of polaronic states, for arbitrary density and electron-phonon coupling. The results highlight the crucial role of spatial correlations in this strong coupling problem.

The particle size decreased rapidly with ball-milling up to 165 hours and then remained as a constant with further hours of milling while, the lattice expanded with milling time up to 165 hours and contracted back with further milling. Saturation magnetization is found to decrease rapidly up to 165 hours of milling and then started decreasing slowly with further milling time. Magnetoimpedance studies were carried out in pellets and thin films of Fe75Cu4Ni4Mo2B15. Magnetoimpedance in pellet is observed to be ~2.5% at 5Hz whereas, in thin films, it is observed to be ~1.5% at 3 MHz.
