Why must we work in the phase space?
Abstract: We are going to prove that the phase-space description is fundamental both in the classical and quantum physics. It is shown that many problems in statistical mechanics, quantum mechanics, quasi-classical theory and in the theory of integrable systems may be well-formulated only in the phase-space language.

On the Unavoidability of the Interpretations of Quantum Mechanics
Abstract: Recently, the presence in the literature (also recent) of voluminous discussions about the interpretation of quantum mechanics has been labelled as scandalous. We claim that a weak point of the debate which hosted such a conclusion is a lack of a definition of the term "interpretation". In the present note, we would "like to make precise" that meaning and to show how such a clarification is necess… ▽ More

A note on the Relationship between Localization and Norm-1 Property
Abstract: The paper focuses on the problem of localization in quantum mechanics. It is well known that it is not possible to define a localization observable for the photon by means of projection valued measures. Conversely, that is possible by using positive operator valued measures. On the other hand, projection valued measures imply a kind of localization which is stronger than the one implied by positiv… ▽ More

Bayes-optimal detection of TNT content by nuclear quadrupole resonance
Abstract: We study the statistical performance and applicability of a simple quantum state discrimination technique for the analysis of data from nuclear quadrupole resonance experiments on a TNT sample. The target application is remote detection of anti-personnel landmines. We show that, even for data that allows the determination of only one time dependent component of the NQR subsystem, the use of the B… ▽ More

Perspectives: Quantum Mechanics on Phase Space
Abstract: The basic ideas in the theory of quantum mechanics on phase space are illustrated through an introduction of generalities, which seem to underlie most if not all such formulations and follow with examples taken primarily from kinematical particle model descriptions exhibiting either Galileian or Lorentzian symmetry. The structures of fundamental importance are the relevant (Lie) groups of symmet… ▽ More

Necessity of Combining Mutually Incompatible Perspectives in the Construction of a Global View: Quantum Probability and Signal Analysis
Abstract: The scientific fields of quantum mechanics and signal-analysis originated within different settings, aimed at different goals and started from different scientific paradigms. Yet the development of the two subjects has become increasingly intertwined. We argue that these similarities are rooted in the fact that both fields of scientific inquiry had to deal with finding a single description for a… ▽ More
