A time projection chamber (TPC) with micropattern gaseous detector (MPGD) readout is investigated as main tracking device of the International Large Detector (ILD) concept at the planned International Linear Collider (ILC). A prototype TPC equipped with a triple gas electron multiplier (GEM) readout has been built and operated in an electron test beam. The TPC was placed in a 1 T solenoidal field at the DESY II Test Beam Facility, which provides an electron beam up to 6 GeV/c. The performance of the readout modules, in particular the spatial point resolution, is determined and compared to earlier tests. New studies are presented with first results on the separation of close-by tracks and the capability of the system to measure the specific energy loss dE/dx. This is complemented by a simulation study on the optimization of the readout granularity to improve particle identification by dE/dx.

In this paper, results from a prototype TPC, placed in a 1 T solenoidal field and read out with three independent GEM-based readout modules, are reported. The TPC was exposed to a 6 GeV electron beam at the DESY II synchrotron. The efficiency for reconstructing hits, the measurement of the drift velocity, the space point resolution and the control of field inhomogeneities are presented.

Supersymmetric models provide many new complex phases which lead to CP violating effects in collider experiments. As an example, CP-sensitive triple product asymmetries in neutralino production and subsequent leptonic two-body decays are studied within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. A full ILD detector simulation has been performed at a center of mass energy of 500GeV, including the relevant Standard Model background processes, a realistic beam energy spectrum, beam backgrounds and a beam polarization of 80% and -60% for the electron and positron beams, respectively. Assuming an integrated luminosity of 500fb-1 collected by the experiment and the performance of the current ILD detector, a relative measurement accuracy of 10% for the CP-sensitive asymmetry can be achieved in the chosen scenario.

We include a full detector simulation of the International Large Detector for the International Linear Collider. The simulation was performed at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt{s}=500 GeV, including the relevant Standard Model background processes, a realistic beam energy spectrum, beam backgrounds and a beam polarization of 80% and -60% for the electron and positron beams, respectively. In order to effectively disentangle different signal samples and reduce SM and SUSY backgrounds we apply a method of kinematic reconstruction. Assuming an integrated luminosity of 500 fb^-1 collected by the experiment and the performance of the current ILD detector, we arrive at a relative measurement accuracy of 10% for the CP-sensitive asymmetry in our scenario. We demonstrate that our method of signal selection using kinematic reconstruction can be applied to a broad class of scenarios and it allows disentangling processes with similar kinematic properties.

This prototype has an inner diameter of 72 cm and a length of 61 cm. The design of the field cage wall was optimized for a low material budget of 1.21 % of a radiation length and a drift field homogeneity of Delta(E)/(E) less or equal 10^-4. Since November 2008 the prototype has been part of a comprehensive test beam setup at DESY and used as a test chamber for the development of Micro Pattern Gas Detector based readout devices.

The prospects for the analysis of tau channels at the SUSY benchmark point SPS1a', especially from e+e- -> stau_1 stau_1 and e+e- -> stau_2 stau_2, have been studied in full simulation of the ILD detector concept forseen for the International Linear Collider. All accessible SUSY channels as well as all Standard Model backgrounds were generated at a centre-of-mass energy E_CMS=500 GeV, including the beam energy spectrum and beam backgrounds expected for nominal ILC beam parameters. With an integrated luminosity of 500 fb-1 delivered to the experiment, the masses of the stau_1 and stau_2 can be measured to 107.69^{+0.03}_{-0.06} GeV +- 1.1 δM_LSP and 183 ^{+11}_{-5} GeV +- 18 δM_LSP, respectively, while the true values in SPS1a' are 107.9 GeV and 194.9 GeV, respectively. The cross sections for stau_1 and stau_2 pair production could be obtained with a precision of 3.1% and 4.2%, respectively. Combining the mass and cross section measurement in the stau_2 channel allows to determine the LSP mass with a relative error of 1.7%, assuming a known mixing angle. In stau_1 -> tau LSP decays, the tau polarisation is measured to be 91 +- 9% and 87.0 +- 3.4% in the pi and rho decay channels of the tau, respectively. The true value in the simulated SPS1a' sample is 89.6%.

The performance of the ILD detector at the ILC for the analysis of $μ$ and $τ$ channels at the SUSY benchmark-point SPS1a' has been studied with full detector simulation. It is concluded that if 500 fb$^{-1}$ is delivered to the experiment, $Δ(\MXN{1}) = 920 \MeVcc$, $Δ(\msmul) = 100 \MeVcc$, $Δ(\MXN{2}) = 1.38 ~\GeVcc$, and $Δ(σ(\eeto \smul \smul))$ = 1.35 fb can be achieved from the $μ$ channe…

We have successfully implemented both ASICs in 0.25 micron CMOS technology using enclosed layout transistors and guard rings for increased radiation hardness. We present results of the performance of these chips, including irradiation with 24 GeV protons up to 61 Mrad (2.3 x 10e15 p/cm^2).
