Let $ξ$ be a Lévy process and $I_ξ(t):=\int_{0}^te^{-ξ_s}\mathrm{d} s$, $t\geq 0,$ be the exponential functional of Lévy processes on deterministic horizon. Given that $\lim_{t\to \infty}ξ_t=-\infty$ we evaluate for general functions $F$ an upper bound on the rate of decay of $\mathbb{E}\left(F(I_ξ(t))\right)$ based on an explicit integral criterion. When $\mathbb{E}\left(ξ_1\right)\in\left(-\infty,0\right)$ and $\mathbb{P}\left(ξ_1>t\right)$ is regularly varying of index $α>1$ at infinity, we show that the law of $I_ξ(t)$, suitably normed and rescaled, converges weakly to a probability measure stemming from a new generalisation of the product factorisation of classical exponential functionals. These results substantially improve upon the existing literature and are obtained via a novel combination between Mellin inversion of the Laplace transform of $\mathbb{E}\left(I^{-a}_ξ(t)\mathbf{1}_{\left\{I_ξ(t)\leq x\right\}}\right)$, $a\in (0,1)$, $x\in(0,\infty],$ and Tauberian theory augmented for integer-valued $α$ by a suitable application of the one-large jump principle in the context of the de Haan theory. The methodology rests upon the representation of the aforementioned Mellin transform in terms of the recently introduced bivariate Bernstein-gamma functions for which we develop the following new results of independent interest (for general $ξ$): we link these functions to the $q$-potentials of $ξ$; we show that their derivatives at zero are finite upon the finiteness of the aforementioned integral criterion; we offer neat estimates of those derivatives along complex lines. These results are useful in various applications of the exponential functionals themselves and in different contexts where properties of bivariate Bernstein-gamma functions are needed. $ξ$ need not be non-lattice.

Here we provide three results in the form of "sufficientness" postulates that characterize their predictive distributions. In particular, we show that exchangeable measure-valued Pólya urn sequences are the unique exchangeable models for which the predictive distributions are a mixture of the marginal distribution and an average of some probability kernels evaluated at past observation. When the latter coincides with the empirical measure, we recover a well-known result for the exchangeable model with a Dirichlet process prior. The other two sufficientness postulates consider the case when the state space is finite.

Our results consider these sequences as dependent on the probability masses of the underlying random variable. In particular we study the minima and the maxima of these sequences and prove that they are attained for indices of the sequences smaller or equal than the support of the underlying random variable. Noting that the minimum itself is a minimum of multi-variate polynomials we conjecture that one universal polynomial envelopes the minimum from below and that it is maximal in some sense and largest in another. We prove this conjecture in a special case.

For Markov processes we give additional conditions under which the solutions are unique and solutions corresponding to ordered initial states fulfill a comparison principle. As examples we show that these conditions include Lévy processes with infinite activity or unbounded variation and diffusions on an interval with appropriate behavior at the boundaries. Our methods are based on the techniques used in the case of Brownian motion and rely on discrete approximations of solutions via $Γ$-convergence from [3] (Anulova 1980) and [12] (Chen et. al. 2011) combined with stochastic ordering arguments adapted from [34] (Klump and Kolb 2023).

In this paper, we prove a representation theorem for the reinforcement measures $R$ of all exchangeable MVPSs, which leads to a characterization result for their directing random measures $\tilde{P}$. In particular, when $\mathbb{X}$ is countable or $R$ is dominated by the initial distribution $ν$, then any exchangeable MVPS is a Dirichlet process mixture model over a family of probability distributions with disjoint supports. Furthermore, for all exchangeable MVPSs, the predictive distributions converge on a set of probability one in total variation to $\tilde{P}$. Importantly, we do not restrict our analysis to balanced MVPSs, in the terminology of $k$-color urns, but rather show that the only non-balanced exchangeable MVPSs are sequences of i.i.d. random variables.

In this article densities (and their derivatives) of subordinators and inverse subordinators are considered. Under minor restrictions, generally milder than the existing in the literature, using a useful modification of the saddle point method, we obtain the large asymptotic behaviour of these densities (and their derivatives) for a specific region of space and time and quantify how the ratio between time and space affects the explicit speed of convergence. The asymptotics is governed by an exponential term depending on the Laplace exponent of the subordinator and the region represents the behaviour of the subordinator when it is atypically small (the inverse one is larger than usual). As a result a route to the derivation of novel general or particular fine estimates for densities with explicit constants in the speed of convergence in the region of the lower envelope/the law of iterated logarithm is available. Furthermore, under mild conditions, we provide a power series representation for densities (and their derivatives) of subordinators and inverse subordinators. This representation is explicit and based on the derivatives of the convolution of the tails of the corresponding Lévy measure, whose smoothness is also investigated. In this context the methods adopted are based on Laplace inversion and strongly rely on the theory of Bernstein functions extended to the cut complex plane. As a result, smoothness properties of densities (and their derivatives) and their behaviour near zero immediately follow.

Stacy distribution defined for the first time in 1961 provides a flexible framework for modelling of a wide range of real-life behaviours. It appears under different names in the scientific literature and contains many useful particular cases. Homogeneous Poisson processes are appropriate apriori models for the number of renewals up to a given time $t>0$. This paper mixes them and considers a Mixed Poisson process with Stacy mixing variable. We call it a Poisson-Stacy process. The resulting counting process is one of the Generalised Negative Binomial processes, and the distribution of its time-intersections are very-well investigated in the scientific literature. Here we define and investigate their joint probability distributions. Then, the corresponding mixed renewal process is investigated and Exp-Stacy and Erlang-Stacy distributions are defined and partially studied.
The paper finishes with a simulation study of these stochastic processes. Some plots of the probability density functions, probability mass functions, mean square regressions and sample paths are drawn together with the corresponding code for the simulations.

In this work, we consider moments of exponential functionals of Lévy processes on a deterministic horizon. We derive two convolutional identities regarding these moments. The first one relates the complex moments of the exponential functional of a general Lévy process up to a deterministic time to those of the dual Lévy process. The second convolutional identity links the complex moments of the exponential functional of a Lévy process, which is not a compound Poisson process, to those of the exponential functionals of its ascending/descending ladder heights on a random horizon determined by the respective local times. As a consequence, we derive a universal expression for the half-negative moment of the exponential functional of any symmetric Lévy process, which resembles in its universality the passage time of symmetric random walks. The $(n-1/2)^{th}$, $n\geq 0$ moments are also discussed. On the other hand, under extremely mild conditions, we obtain a series expansion for the complex moments (including those with negative real part) of the exponential functionals of subordinators. This significantly extends previous results and offers neat expressions for the negative real moments. In a special case, it turns out that the Riemann zeta function is the minus first moment of the exponential functional of the Gamma subordinator indexed in time.

In this paper we derive non-classical Tauberian asymptotic at infinity for the tail, the density and the derivatives thereof of a large class of exponential functionals of subordinators. More precisely, we consider the case when the Lévy measure of the subordinator satisfies the well-known and mild condition of positive increase. This is achieved via a convoluted application of the saddle point method to the Mellin transform of these exponential functionals which is given in terms of Bernstein-gamma functions. To apply the saddle point method we improved the Stirling type of asymptotic for Bernstein-gamma functions and the latter is of interest beyond this paper as the Bernstein-gamma functions are applicable in different settings especially through their asymptotic behaviour in the complex plane. As an application we have derived the asymptotic of the density and its derivatives for all exponential functionals of non-decreasing, potentially compound Poisson processes which turns out to be precisely as that of an exponentially distributed random variable. We show further that a large class of densities are even analytic in a cone of the complex plane.

In this paper, we extend recent work on the functions that we call Bernstein-gamma to the class of bivariate Bernstein-gamma functions. In the more general bivariate setting, we determine Stirling-type asymptotic bounds which generalise, improve upon and streamline those found for the univariate Bernstein-gamma functions.
Then, we demonstrate the importance and power of these results through an application to exponential functionals of Lévy processes.
In more detail, for a subordinator (a non-decreasing Lévy process) $(X_s)_{s\geq 0}$, we study its \textit{exponential functional}, $\int_0^t e^{-X_s}ds $, evaluated at a finite, deterministic time $t>0$. Our main result here is an explicit infinite convolution formula for the Mellin transform (complex moments) of the exponential functional up to time $t$ which under very minor restrictions is shown to be equivalent to an infinite series. We believe this work can be regarded as a step** stone towards a more in-depth study of general exponential functionals of Lévy processes on a finite time horizon.

We start by providing an explicit characterization and analytical properties, including the persistence phenomena, of the distribution of the extinction time $\mathbb{T}$ of a class of non-Markovian self-similar stochastic processes with two-sided jumps that we introduce as a stochastic time-change of Markovian self-similar processes. For a suitably chosen time-changed, we observe, for classes with two-sided jumps, the following surprising facts. On the one hand, all the $\mathbb{T}$'s within a class have the same law which we identify in a simple form for all classes and reduces, in the spectrally positive case, to the Fréchet distribution. On the other hand, each of its distribution corresponds to the law of an extinction time of a single Markov process without positive jumps, leaving the interpretation that the time-changed has annihilated the effect of positive jumps. The example of the non-Markovian processes associated to Lévy stable processes is detailed.

In this article integro-differential Volterra equations whose convolution kernel depends on the vector variable are considered and a connection of these equations with a class of semi-Markov processes is established. The variable order $α(x)$-fractional diffusion equation is a particular case of our analysis and it turns out that it is associated with a suitable (non-independent) time-change of the Brownian motion. The resulting process is semi-Markovian and its paths have intervals of constancy, as it happens for the delayed Brownian motion, suitable to model trap** effects induced by the medium. However in our scenario the interval of constancy may be position dependent and this means traps of space-varying depth as it happens in a disordered medium. The strength of the trap** is investigated by means of the asymptotic behaviour of the process: it is proved that, under some technical assumptions on $α(x)$, traps make the process non-diffusive in the sense that it spends a negligible amount of time out of a neighborhood of the region $\text{argmin}(α(x))$ to which it converges in probability under some more restrictive hypotheses on $α(x)$.

In this paper, we start by showing that the intertwining relationship between two minimal Markov semigroups acting on Hilbert spaces implies that any recurrent extensions, in the sense of Itô, of these semigroups satisfy the same intertwining identity. Under mild additional assumptions on the intertwining operator, we prove that the converse also holds. This connection, which relies on the representation of excursion quantities as developed by Fitzsimmons and Getoor, enables us to give an interesting probabilistic interpretation of intertwining relationships between Markov semigroups via excursion theory: two such recurrent extensions that intertwine share, under an appropriate normalization, the same local time at the boundary point. Moreover, in the case when one of the (non-self-adjoint) semigroup intertwines with the one of a quasi-diffusion, we obtain an extension of Krein's theory of strings byshowing that its densely defined spectral measure is absolutely continuous with respect to the measure appearing in the Stieltjes representation of the Laplace exponent of the inverse local time. Finally, we illustrate our results with the class of positive self-similar Markov semigroups and also the reflected generalized Laguerre semigroups. For the latter, we obtain their spectral decomposition and provide, under some conditions, a perturbed spectral gap estimate for its convergence to equilibrium.

We study the equation $M_Ψ(z+1)=\frac{-z}{Ψ(-z)}M_Ψ(z), M_Ψ(1)=1$ defined on a subset of the imaginary line and where $Ψ$ is a negative definite functions. Using the Wiener-Hopf method we solve this equation in a two terms product which consists of functions that extend the classical gamma function. These functions are in a bijection with Bernstein functions and for this reason we call them Bernstein-gamma functions. Via a couple of computable parameters we characterize of these functions as meromorphic functions on a complex strip. We also establish explicit and universal Stirling type asymptotic in terms of the constituting Bernstein function. The decay of $|M_Ψ(z)|$ along imaginary lines is computed. Important quantities for theoretical and applied studies are rendered accessible.
As an application we investigate the exponential functionals of Levy Processes whose Mellin transform satisfies the recurrent equation above. Although these variables have been intensively studied, our new perspective, based on a combination of probabilistic and complex analytical techniques, enables us to derive comprehensive and substantial properties and strengthen several results on the law of these random variables. These include smoothness, regularity and analytical properties, large and small asymptotic behaviour, including asymptotic expansions, bounds, and Mellin-Barnes representations for the density and its successive derivatives. We also study the weak convergence of exponential functionals on a finite time horizon when the latter expands to infinity. As a result of new factorizations of the law of the exponential functional we deliver important intertwining relation between members of the class of positive self-similar semigroups.
The derivation of our results relies on a mixture of complex-analytical and probabilistic techniques.

We provide the spectral expansion in a weighted Hilbert space of a substantial class of invariant non-self-adjoint and non-local Markov operators which appear in limit theorems for positive-valued Markov processes. We show that this class is in bijection with a subset of negative definite functions and we name it the class of generalized Laguerre semigroups. Our approach, which goes beyond the framework of perturbation theory, is based on an in-depth and original analysis of an intertwining relation that we establish between this class and a self-adjoint Markov semigroup, whose spectral expansion is expressed in terms of the classical Laguerre polynomials. As a by-product, we derive smoothness properties for the solution to the associated Cauchy problem as well as for the heat kernel. Our methodology also reveals a variety of possible decays, including the hypocoercivity type phenomena, for the speed of convergence to equilibrium for this class and enables us to provide an interpretation of these in terms of the rate of growth of the weighted Hilbert space norms of the spectral projections. Depending on the analytic properties of the aforementioned negative definite functions, we are led to implement several strategies, which require new developments in a variety of contexts, to derive precise upper bounds for these norms.

The biorthogonal sequences that appear in their eigenvalue expansion can be expressed in terms of sequences of polynomials, and they generalize the Laguerre polynomials. By means of a delicate saddle point method, we derive uniform asymptotic bounds that allow us to get an upper bound for their norms in weighted Hilbert spaces. We believe that this work opens a way to construct spectral expansions for more general non-self-adjoint Markov semigroups.

Based on the deterministic approximation studied by Fournier and Méléard, we prove that the fluctuation theorem holds under some mild moment conditions. The limiting process is shown to be an infinite-dimensional Gaussian process solving a generalized Langevin equation. In particular, we further consider its properties in one-dimension case, which is characterized as a time-inhomogeneous Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process.

In this note we investigate the behaviour of Brownian motion conditioned on a growth constraint of its local time which has been previously investigated by Berestycki and Benjamini. For a class of non-decreasing positive functions $f(t); t>0$, we consider the Wiener measure under the condition that the Brownian local time is dominated by the function f up to time T. In the case where $f(t)/t^{3/2}$ is integrable we describe the limiting process as T goes to infinity. Moreover, we prove two conjectures in [BB10] in the case for a class of functions f, for which $f(t)/t^{3/2}$ just fails to be integrable. Our methodology is more general as it relies on the study of the asymptotic of the probability of subordinators to stay above a given curve. Immediately or with adaptations one can study questions like the Brownian motioned conditioned on a growth constraint of its local time at the maximum or more generally a Levy process conditioned on a growth constraint of its local time at the maximum or at zero. We discuss briefly the former.

We study the asymptotic behaviour of the tail of the distribution of the first passage time of a Lévy process over a one-sided moving boundary. Our main result states that if the boundary behaves as $t^γ$ for large $t$ for some $γ<1/2$ then the probability that the process stays below the boundary behaves asymptotically as in the case of a constant boundary. We do not have to assume Spitzer's condition in contrast to all previously known results. Both positive ($+t^γ$) and negative ($-t^γ$) boundaries are considered. These results extend the findings of Greenwood and Novikov (1986) and are also motivated by results in the case of Brownian motion, for which the above result was proved in Uchiyama (1980).

In [16], under mild conditions, a Wiener-Hopf type factorization is derived for the exponential functional of proper Lévy processes. In this paper, we extend this factorization by relaxing a finite moment assumption as well as by considering the exponential functional for killed Lévy processes. As a by-product, we derive some interesting new distributional properties enjoyed by a large class of this random variable, such as the absolute continuity of its distribution and the smoothness, boundedness or complete monotonicity of its density. This type of results is then used to derive similar properties for the law of maxima and first passage time of some stable Lévy processes. Thus, for example, we show that for a large class of stable processes the first passage time has a bounded and non-increasing density on the positive half-line. We also generate many instances of integral or power series representations for the law of the exponential functional of Lévy processes with one or two-sided jumps. The proof of our main results requires different devices from the one developed in [16]. It relies in particular on a generalization of a transform recently introduced in [8] together with some extensions to killed Lévy process of Wiener-Hopf techniques.

For subordinators with positive drift we extend recent results on the structure of the potential measures and the renewal densities. We study the distribution of the exponential functional $I(ξ,η)=\int_0^{\infty} \exp(ξ_{t-}) \d η_t$, where $ξ$ and $η$ are independent Lévy processes. In the general setting using the theories of Markov processes and Schwartz distributions we prove that the law of this exponential functional satisfies an integral equation, which generalizes Proposition 2.1 in Carmona et al "On the distribution and asymptotic results for exponential functionals of Levy processes". In the special case when $η$ is a Brownian motion with drift we show that this integral equation leads to an important functional equation for the Mellin transform of $I(ξ,η)$, which proves to be a very useful tool for studying the distributional properties of this random variable. For general Lévy process $ξ$ ($η$ being Brownian motion with drift) we prove that the exponential functional has a smooth density on $\r \setminus \{0\}$, but surprisingly the second derivative at zero may fail to exist. Under the additional assumption that $ξ$ has some positive exponential moments we establish an asymptotic behaviour of $\p(I(ξ,η)>x)$ as $x\to +\infty$, and under similar assumptions on the negative exponential moments of $ξ$ we obtain a precise asympotic expansion of the density of $I(ξ,η)$ as $x\to 0$. Under further assumptions on the Lévy process $ξ$ one is able to prove much stronger results about the density of the exponential functional and we illustrate some of the ideas and techniques for the case when $ξ$ has hyper-exponential jumps.

As a by-product, we generate an integral or power series representation for the law of ${\rm{I}}_ξ$ for a large class of Lévy processes with two-sided jumps and also derive some new distributional properties. The proof of our main result relies on a fine Markovian study of a class of generalized Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes which is of independent interest on its own. We use and refine an alternative approach of studying the stationary measure of a Markov process which avoids some technicalities and difficulties that appear in the classical method of employing the generator of the dual Markov process.

This article is about right inverses of Levy processes as first introduced by Evans in the symmetric case and later studied systematically by the present authors and their co-authors. Here we add to the existing fluctuation theory an explicit description of the excursion measure away from the (minimal) right inverse. This description unifies known formulas in the case of a positive Gaussian coefficient and in the bounded variation case. While these known formulas relate to excursions away from a point starting negative continuously, and excursions started by a jump, the present description is in terms of excursions away from the supremum continued up to a return time. In the unbounded variation case with zero Gaussian coefficient previously excluded, excursions start negative continuously, but the excursion measures away from the right inverse and away from a point are mutually singular. We also provide a new construction and a new formula for the Laplace exponent of the minimal right inverse.

We prove Chung-type laws of the iterated logarithm for general Lévy processes at zero. In particular, we provide tools to translate small deviation estimates directly into laws of the iterated logarithm. This reveals laws of the iterated logarithm for Lévy processes at small times in many concrete examples. In some cases, exotic norming functions are derived.

By Nagasawa's theorem, this yields a remarkable time-reversal identity involving the Lévy process conditioned to stay positive. As examples of applications, we construct a version of the Lévy process indexed by the entire real line and started from $-\infty$ which enjoys a natural spatial-stationarity property, and point out that the latter leads to a natural Lamperti-type representation for self-similar Markov processes in $(0,\infty)$ started from the entrance point 0+.

Scale functions play a central role in the fluctuation theory of spectrally negative Lévy processes and often appear in the context of martingale relations. These relations are often complicated to establish requiring excursion theory in favour of Itô calculus. The reason for the latter is that standard Itô calculus is only applicable to functions with a sufficient degree of smoothness and knowledge of the precise degree of smoothness of scale functions is seemingly incomplete. The aim of this article is to offer new results concerning properties of scale functions in relation to the smoothness of the underlying Lévy measure. We place particular emphasis on spectrally negative Lévy processes with a Gaussian component and processes of bounded variation.
An additional motivation is the very intimate relation of scale functions to renewal functions of subordinators. The results obtained for scale functions have direct implications offering new results concerning the smoothness of such renewal functions for which there seems to be very little existing literature on this topic.
