The increased proliferation of abusive content on social media platforms has a negative impact on online users. The dread, dislike, discomfort, or mistrust of lesbian, gay, transgender or bisexual persons is defined as homophobia/transphobia. Homophobic/transphobic speech is a type of offensive language that may be summarized as hate speech directed toward LGBT+ people, and it has been a growing concern in recent years. Online homophobia/transphobia is a severe societal problem that can make online platforms poisonous and unwelcome to LGBT+ people while also attempting to eliminate equality, diversity, and inclusion. We provide a new hierarchical taxonomy for online homophobia and transphobia, as well as an expert-labelled dataset that will allow homophobic/transphobic content to be automatically identified. We educated annotators and supplied them with comprehensive annotation rules because this is a sensitive issue, and we previously discovered that untrained crowdsourcing annotators struggle with diagnosing homophobia due to cultural and other prejudices. The dataset comprises 15,141 annotated multilingual comments. This paper describes the process of building the dataset, qualitative analysis of data, and inter-annotator agreement. In addition, we create baseline models for the dataset. To the best of our knowledge, our dataset is the first such dataset created. Warning: This paper contains explicit statements of homophobia, transphobia, stereotypes which may be distressing to some readers.

This study introduces a framework for the design and implementation of acoustic black holes (ABHs) in airfoils. A generalized multi-parameter damped-ABH generation function is mapped onto NACA series airfoils. Representative geometries and a uniformly distributed baseline, all with the same mass of structure and dam** are fabricated using multi-material PolyJet 3D printing. Laser Doppler vibrometer measurements along the airfoil chord in response to a broadband 0.1 - 12 kHz excitation show a decrease in trailing edge vibrations by as much as 10 dB, a broadband 5 dB reduction across the entire chord as well as substantial spatial and temporal modulation of flexural waves by ABH-embedded foils. Finite element analysis (FEA) models are developed and validated based on the measured data. Furthermore, a parametric FEA study is performed on a set of comparable designs to elucidate the scope of modulation achievable. These findings are applicable to trailing-edge noise reduction, flow control, structural enhancement and energy harvesting for airfoils.

Abstract:
This report presents research conducted on amplified self-healing electrostatic (HASEL) actuators. HASEL actuators are comprised of a dielectric fluid sealed between two inextensible layers with bonded, flexible electrodes on its outer surface. When charge is applied to the electrodes, Coulomb force compresses the fluid and causes the actuator to contract. In this work a faster, more customizable…

In this work a faster, more customizable and convenient way of creating a HASEL actuator is presented, using a laser engraver to heat-seal and cut polypropylene sheets. Using this technique, a hydraulically actuated soft lens is fabricated and demonstrated.

This work documents the technical development of creating a two-dimensional (2D) Laser Doppler Vibrometry (LDV)measurement using a single-point LDV system through an automated and remotely controllable process. This report aims to assist in rapid development of setups for similar use cases. The setup described is also modular, and has been used to analyze the modal response of samples actuated through air-based acoustic signals as well as those mechanically induced.

Abstract:
We show how phasing between tandem bioinspired fins flap** at high-stroke amplitudes modulates rear fin thrust production and wake characteristics. Load cell thrust measurements show that the rear fin generates 25% more thrust than the front fin when it lags the latter by a quarter cycle, and performs 8% worse when it leads the front fin by the same amount. The flow interactions between the fins…

The flow interactions between the fins responsible for these observations are analyzed using two-dimensional particle image velocimetry measurements and three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics simulations. Distributions of velocity elucidate variations in the effective flow induced on the rear fin for different phase offsets. Vortex structure interactions and particle rakes reveal the contributions of the leading- and trailing-edge vortices shed by the front fin in modulating the suction at the rear fin leading edge. Furthermore, the wake structure far downstream of the fins changes in its coherence, axial and radial extents for the different phase offsets. These findings are relevant for the design and performance optimization of various unmanned underwater vehicles that utilize such tandem systems.

Abstract:
By the Chinese remainder theorem, the canonical map \[Ψ_n: R[X]/(X^n-1)\to \oplus_{d|n} R[X]/Φ_d(X)\] is an isomorphism when $R$ is a field whose characteristic does not divide $n$ and $Φ_d$ is the $d$th cyclotomic polynomial. When $R$ is the ring $\mathbf{Z}$ of rational integers, this map is injective but not surjective. In this paper, we give an explicit formula for the elementary divisors of the cokernel of $Ψ_n$(when $R=\mathbb{Z}$) using the prime factorisation of $n$. We also give a pictorial algorithm using Young Tableaux that takes $O(n^{3+ε})$ bit operations for any $ε> 0$ to determine a basis of Smith vectors (see Definition 3.1) for the codomain of $Ψ_n$. In general when $R$ is an integral domain, we prove that the determinant of $Ψ: R[X]/(\prod_j f_j) \to \bigoplus_j R[X]/(f_j)$ written with respect to the standard basis is $\prod_{1 \leqslant i < j
\leqslant n} \mathcal{R}(f_j, f_i)$, where $f_i$'s are pairwise relatively prime monic polynomials and $\mathcal{R}(f_j, f_i)$ is the resultant of $f_j$ and $f_i$.
