A new study explores the distinct roles of spontaneous polarization and piezoelectric polarization in piezo-phototronic coupling. This investigation focuses on differences in photocatalytic and piezo-photocatalytic performance using sodium bismuth titanate (NBT), a key ferroelectric material. The research aims to identify which type of polarization has a greater influence on piezo-phototronic effects. A theoretical assessment complements the experimental findings, providing additional insights. This study explores the enhanced piezo-phototronic performance of electrospun nanofibers compared to sol-gel particles under different illumination conditions (11W UV, 250W UV, and natural sunlight). Electrospun nanofibers exhibited a rate constant (k) improvement of 2.5 to 3.75 times, whereas sol-gel particles showed only 1.3 to 1.4 times higher performance when ultrasonication was added to photocatalysis. Analysis using first-principle methods revealed that nanofibers had an elastic modulus (C33) about 2.15 times lower than sol-gel particles, indicating greater flexibility. The elongation of lattice along z-axis in the case of nanofibers reduced the covalency in the Bi-O and Ti-O bonds. These structural differences led to reduced spontaneous polarization and piezoelectric stress coefficients (e31 & e33). Despite having lower piezoelectric stress coefficients, higher flexibility in nanofibers led to a higher piezoelectric strain coefficient, 2.66 and 1.97 times greater than sol-gel particles, respectively. This improved the piezo-phototronic coupling for nanofibers.

We carry out deep near-ultraviolet (NUV) and far-ultraviolet (FUV) imaging of an interacting galaxy system, comprised of a Seyfert type 1 galaxy NGC 7469 and its companion IC 5283. Our aim is to resolve and map the star-forming regions in the outer arms and look for signs of interaction between the two galaxies. We used AstroSat Ultra Violet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) to obtain NUV and FUV images of NGC 7469 in a range of filters. We have carried out photometry of star-forming regions in the two galaxies and found their spatial distributions. We also obtained the distributions of star formation rates (SFR) in NGC 7469 and IC 5283 using the estimates obtained from the FUV and NUV bands. We also carried out Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests to look for differences in the SFRs in the two galaxies. We derived the spectral energy distribution (SED), leading to the determination of physical parameters, including the overall SFR, stellar mass ($\text{M}_{*}$), dust mass ($\text{M}_\text{Dust}$), and specific star formation rates (sSFRs) in both the galaxies. Our NUV and FUV images show the presence of an outer spiral arm that is better resolved. We have identified 33 new star-forming regions out of 51 total identified in the UVIT composite image. Enhanced star formation activity is observed to coincide with the interaction, and KS tests show that there are no significant differences in the SFR distributions of NGC 7469 and IC 5283, indicating that the interaction between the galaxies has not influenced their star formation processes differently. The SED plots and the photometric results demonstrate that most of the star formation activity is confined inside the central starburst (SB) ring.

We obtained multi-epoch near-infrared (NIR, $JHK_s$) observations of the central region of Draco dSph covering a sky area of $\sim 21'\times21'$ using the WIRCam instrument at the 3.6-m Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope. Homogeneous $JHK_s$ time-series photometry for 212 RR Lyrae (173 fundamental-mode, 24 first-overtone, and 15 mixed-mode variables) and 5 Anomalous Cepheids in Draco dSph is presented and used to derive their period-luminosity relations at NIR wavelengths for the first-time. The small scatter of $\sim 0.05$~mag in these empirical relations for RR Lyrae stars is consistent with those in globular clusters and suggests a very small metallicity spread, up to $\sim0.2$~dex, among these centrally located variables. Based on empirically calibrated NIR period-luminosity-metallicity relations for RR Lyrae in globular clusters, we determined a distance modulus to Draco dSph of $μ_\textrm{RRL} = 19.557 \pm 0.026$ mag. The calibrated $K_s$-band period-luminosity relations for Anomalous Cepheids in the Draco dSph and the Large Magellanic Cloud exhibit statistically consistent slopes but systematically different zero-points, hinting at possible metallicity dependence of $\sim-0.3$ mag~dex$^{-1}$. Finally, the apparent magnitudes of the tip of the red giant branch in $I$ and $J$ bands also agree well with their absolute calibrations with the adopted RR Lyrae distance to Draco. Our recommended $\sim1.5\%$ precise RR Lyrae distance, $D_\textrm{Draco} = 81.55 \pm 0.98 \textrm{(statistical)} \pm 1.17 \textrm{(systematic)}$~kpc, is the most accurate and precise distance to Draco dSph galaxy.

The catalog represents the first large sample, including both type A, hot thermal flares, and type B, impulsive flares, with a sub-A class sensitive instrument. We also detect 213 sub-A and 1330 A class flares. Individual flares are fit with an exponentially-modified Gaussian function and multi-flare groups are decomposed into individual flares. We validate our findings with flare catalogs made using visual inspection as well as automatic pipelines on Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite and Solar Dynamics Observatory data. We find a clear bimodality in the ratio of the width to decay time between type A and B flares. We infer a power-law index of $α_F = 1.92 \pm 0.09$ for the background-subtracted peak flux distribution of XSM flares, which is consistent with the value $\sim 2$ reported in the literature. We also infer $α_F = 1.90 \pm 0.09$ for type B, and $α_F = 1.94 \pm 0.08$ for type A flares, which has previously not been reported in the literature. These comparable values hint at a similarity in their generative processes.

In this paper, the design and analysis of high order accurate IMEX finite volume schemes for the compressible Euler-Poisson (EP) equations in the quasineutral limit is presented. As the quasineutral limit is singular for the governing equations, the time discretisation is tantamount to achieving an accurate numerical method. To this end, the EP system is viewed as a differential algebraic equation system (DAEs) via the method of lines. As a consequence of this vantage point, high order linearly semi-implicit (SI) time discretisation are realised by employing a novel combination of the direct approach used for implicit discretisation of DAEs and, two different classes of IMEX-RK schemes: the additive and the multiplicative. For both the time discretisation strategies, in order to account for rapid plasma oscillations in quasineutral regimes, the nonlinear Euler fluxes are split into two different combinations of stiff and non-stiff components. The high order scheme resulting from the additive approach is designated as a classical scheme while the one generated by the multiplicative approach possesses the asymptotic preserving (AP) property. Time discretisations for the classical and the AP schemes are performed by standard IMEX-RK and SI-IMEX-RK methods, respectively so that the stiff terms are treated implicitly and the non-stiff ones explicitly. In order to discretise in space a Rusanov-type central flux is used for the non-stiff part, and simple central differencing for the stiff part. AP property is also established for the space-time fully-discrete scheme obtained using the multiplicative approach. Results of numerical experiments are presented, which confirm that the high order schemes based on the SI-IMEX-RK time discretisation achieve uniform second order convergence with respect to the Debye length and are AP in the quasineutral limit.

The transiting planet HD80606b undergoes a 1000-fold increase in insolation during its 111-day orbit due to it being highly eccentric (e=0.93). The planet's effective temperature increases from 400K to over 1400K in a few hours as it makes a rapid passage to within 0.03AU of its host star during periapsis. Spectroscopic observations during the eclipse (which is conveniently oriented a few hours before periapsis) of HD80606b with the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) are poised to exploit this highly variable environment to study a wide variety of atmospheric properties, including composition, chemical and dynamical timescales, and large scale atmospheric motions. Critical to planning and interpreting these observations is an accurate knowledge of the planet's orbit. We report on observations of two full-transit events: 7 February 2020 as observed by the TESS spacecraft and 7--8 December 2021 as observed with a worldwide network of small telescopes. We also report new radial velocity observations which when analyzed with a coupled model to the transits greatly improve the planet's orbital ephemeris. Our new orbit solution reduces the uncertainty in the transit and eclipse timing of the JWST era from tens of minutes to a few minutes. When combined with the planned JWST observations, this new precision may be adequate to look for non-Keplerian effects in the orbit of HD80606b.

A Home Area Network (HAN) is considered to be a significant component of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and has been studied well in many works. It binds all the electrical components installed in a defined premise together for their close monitoring and management. However, HAN has been realized so far mostly as a centralized system. Therefore, like any other centralized system, the traditional realization of HAN also suffers from various well-known problems, such as single-point-of-failure, susceptibility to attacks, requirement of specialized infrastructure, inflexibility to easy expansion, etc. To address these issues, in this work, we propose a decentralized design of HAN. In particular, we propose an IoT based design where instead of a central controller, the overall system operation is controlled and managed through decentralized coordination among the the electrical appliances. We leverage Synchronous-Transmission (ST) based data-sharing protocols in IoT to accomplish our goal. To demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed decentralized framework, we also design a real-time intra-HAN load-management strategy and implement it in real IoT-devices. Evaluation of the same over emulation platforms and IoT testbeds show upto 62% reduction of peak load over a wide variety of load profiles.

The Rietveld refinement of the polycrystalline powders of 1% Fe and Mn-doped (Na0.5Bi0.5)0.94Ba0.06Ti0.98V0.02O3 at the Ti-site confirmed a single rhombohedral (R3c) phase. The bandgap, (Eg) was affected by the anti-phase octahedral tilt angle and the spin-orbit splitting energy of Ti4+2p3/2 and Ti4+2p1/2 states. The decrease in Bi loss and increase in the binding energy of Ba due to Fe/Mn do** has been correlated to the strengthening of Bi-O and Ba-O bonds which was revealed from the XPS studies thereby further related to the average A-O bond length from structural studies. Hence, a reduction of oxygen vacancy (VO) for the doped samples has been justified. A significant improvement of the dielectric constant, relaxation time (τ0), and the decrease in conductivity due to do** was revealed from the frequency-dependent (10Hz-1MHz) dielectric measurement study. The conduction and relaxation process is dominated by the short-range movement of defects. The activation energy (Ea ~1eV) revealed that there is a presence of double-ionized VOs. The ECE study showed a significant enhancement of the changes in entropy, and the adiabatic temperature difference due to do**, with the change in tempearture being highest in the Fe-doped sample. Such improvement of dielectric and ECE properties was confirmed due to the reduction of the mobility of oxygen vacancy because of the formation defect dipoles.

The design and analysis of a unified asymptotic preserving (AP) and well-balanced scheme for the Euler Equations with gravitational and frictional source terms is presented in this paper. The asymptotic behaviour of the Euler system in the limit of zero Mach and Froude numbers, and large friction is characterised by an additional scaling parameter. Depending on the values of this parameter, the Euler system relaxes towards a hyperbolic or a parabolic limit equation. Standard Implicit-Explicit Runge-Kutta schemes are incapable of switching between these asymptotic regimes. We propose a time semi-discretisation to obtain a unified scheme which is AP for the two different limits. A further reformulation of the semi-implicit scheme can be recast as a fully-explicit method in which the mass update contains both hyperbolic and parabolic fluxes. A space-time fully-discrete scheme is derived using a finite volume framework. A hydrostatic reconstruction strategy, an upwinding of the sources at the interfaces, and a careful choice of the central discretisation of the parabolic fluxes are used to achieve the well-balancing property for hydrostatic steady states. Results of several numerical case studies are presented to substantiate the theoretical claims and to verify the robustness of the scheme.

In this paper the analysis of an asymptotic preserving (AP) IMEX-RK finite volume scheme for the wave equation system in the zero Mach number limit is presented. The accuracy of a numerical scheme at low Mach numbers is its ability to maintain the solution close to the incompressible solution for all times, and this can be formulated in terms of the invariance of a space of constant densities and divergence-free velocities. An IMEX-RK methodology is employed to obtain a time semi-discrete scheme, and a space-time fully-discrete scheme is derived by using standard finite volume techniques. The existence of a unique numerical solution, its uniform stability with respect to the Mach number, the AP property, and the accuracy at low Mach numbers are established for both time semi-discrete, and space-time fully-discrete schemes. Extensive numerical case studies confirm uniform second order convergence of the scheme with respect to the Mach number, and all the above-mentioned properties.

In this paper, the design and analysis of a class of second order accurate IMEX finite volume schemes for the compressible Euler equations in the zero Mach number limit is presented. In order to account for the fast and slow waves, the nonlinear fluxes in the Euler equations are split into stiff and non-stiff components, respectively. The time discretisation is performed by an IMEX Runge-Kutta method, therein the stiff terms are treated implicitly and the non-stiff terms explicitly. In the space discretisation, a Rusanov-type central flux is used for the non-stiff part, and simple central differencing for the stiff part. Both the time semi-discrete and space-time fully-discrete schemes are shown to be asymptotic preserving. The numerical experiments confirm that the schemes achieve uniform second order convergence with respect to the Mach number. A notion of accuracy at low Mach numbers, termed as the asymptotic accuracy, is introduced in terms of the invariance of a well-prepared space of constant densities and divergence-free velocities. The asymptotic accuracy is concerned with the closeness of the compressible solution with that of its incompressible counterpart in a low Mach number regime. It is shown theoretically as well as numerically that the proposed schemes are asymptotically accurate.

We consider two distinguished asymptotic limits of the Euler equations in a gravitational field, namely the incompressible and Boussinesq limits. Both these limits can be obtained as singular limits of the Euler equations under appropriate scaling of the Mach and Froude numbers. We propose and analyse an asymptotic preserving (AP) time discretisation for the numerical approximation of the Euler system in these asymptotic regimes. A key step in the construction of the AP scheme is a semi-implicit discretisation of the fluxes and the source term. The non-stiff convective terms are treated explicitly whereas the stiff pressure-gradient and source term are implicit. The implicit terms are combined to get a nonlinear elliptic equation. We show that the overall scheme is consistent with the respective limit system when the Mach number goes to zero. A linearised stability analysis confirms the $L^2$-stability of the proposed scheme. The results of numerical experiments validate the theoretical findings.

We apply the notion of \emph{optimality} of measurements for state determination(tomography) as originally given by Wootters and Fields to \emph{weak value tomography} of \emph{pure states}. They defined measurements to be optimal if they 'minimised' the effects of statistical errors. For technical reasons they actually maximised the state averaged information, precisely quantified as the negative logarithm of 'error volume'. In this paper we optimise both the state averaged information as well as error volumes. We prove, for Hilbert spaces of arbitrary (finite) dimensionality, that varieties of weak value measurements are optimal when the post-selected bases are \emph{mutually unbiased} with respect to the eigenvectors of the observable being measured. We prove a number of important results about the geometry of state spaces when expressed through the weak values as coordinates. We derive an expression for the Kaëhler potential for the N-dimensional case with the help of which we give an exact treatment of the arbitrary-spin case.
