We present the Rubin Observatory system for data storage/retrieval and pipelined code execution. The layer for data storage and retrieval is named the Butler. It consists of a relational database, known as the registry, to keep track of metadata and relations, and a system to manage where the data is located, named the datastore. Together these systems create an abstraction layer that science algorithms can be written against. This abstraction layer manages the complexities of the large data volumes expected and allows algorithms to be written independently, yet be tied together automatically into a coherent processing pipeline. This system consists of tools which execute these pipelines by transforming them into execution graphs which contain concrete data stored in the Butler. The pipeline infrastructure is designed to be scalable in nature, allowing execution on environments ranging from a laptop all the way up to multi-facility data centers. This presentation will focus on the data management aspects as well as an overview on the creation of pipelines and the corresponding execution graphs.

Particle physics experiments rely extensively on computing and data services, making e-infrastructure an integral part of the research collaboration. Constructing and operating distributed computing can however be challenging for a smaller-scale collaboration. The Light Dark Matter eXperiment (LDMX) is a planned small-scale accelerator-based experiment to search for dark matter in the sub-GeV mass region. Finalizing the design of the detector relies on Monte-Carlo simulation of expected physics processes. A distributed computing pilot project was proposed to better utilize available resources at the collaborating institutes, and to improve scalability and reproducibility. This paper outlines the chosen lightweight distributed solution, presenting requirements, the component integration steps, and the experiences using a pilot system for tests with large-scale simulations. The system leverages existing technologies wherever possible, minimizing the need for software development, and deploys only non-intrusive components at the participating sites. The pilot proved that integrating existing components can dramatically reduce the effort needed to build and operate a distributed e-infrastructure, making it attainable even for smaller research collaborations.

LSST will produce ~20TB of raw data per night which will be calibrated and analyzed in almost real time. Given the volume of LSST data, the traditional subset-download-process paradigm of data reprocessing faces significant challenges. We describe here, the first steps towards a gateway for astronomical science that would enable astronomers to analyze images and catalogs at scale. In this first step we focus on executing the Rubin LSST Science Pipelines, a collection of image and catalog processing algorithms, on Amazon Web Services (AWS). We describe our initial impressions on the performance, scalability and cost of deploying such a system in the cloud.

Writing generic data processing pipelines requires that the algorithmic code does not ever have to know about data formats of files, or the locations of those files. At LSST we have a software system known as "the Data Butler," that abstracts these details from the software developer. Scientists can specify the dataset they want in terms they understand, such as filter, observation identifier, date of observation, and instrument name, and the Butler translates that to one or more files which are read and returned to them as a single Python object. Conversely, once they have created a new dataset they can give it back to the Butler, with a label describing its new status, and the Butler can write it in whatever format it has been configured to use. All configuration is in YAML and supports standard defaults whilst allowing overrides.

We also determine the upper limit B(B0 --> omega phi) < 0.7 x 10^-6 at 90% confidence level. These measurements provide the first evidence for the decay B0 --> omega omega, and an improvement of the upper limit for the decay B0 --> omega phi.

We measure branching fractions for decays with intermediate $Σ_{c}$ baryons to be ${\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΣ_{c}(2455)^{++}\bar{p}π^{-}]=(21.3 \pm 1.0 \pm 1.0 \pm 5.5) \times 10^{-5}$, ${\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΣ_{c}(2520)^{++}\bar{p}π^{-}]=(11.5\pm 1.0 \pm 0.5 \pm 3.0)\times 10^{-5}$, ${\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΣ_{c}(2455)^{0}\bar{p}π^{+}]=(9.1 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.4 \pm 2.4)\times10^{-5}$, and ${\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΣ_{c}(2520)^{0}\bar{p}π^{+}]= (2.2 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.1\pm 0.6) \times 10^{-5}$, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty on the $Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrow\proton\Kmπ^{+}$ branching fraction, respectively. For decays without $Σ_{c}(2455)$ or $Σ_{c}(2520)$ resonances, we measure ${\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΛ_{c}^{+}\bar{p}π^{+}π^{-}]_{\mathrm{non-Σ_{c}}}=(79 \pm 4 \pm 4 \pm 20)\times10^{-5}$. The total branching fraction is determined to be ${\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΛ_{c}^{+}\bar{p}π^{+}π^{-}]_{\mathrm{total}}=(123 \pm 5 \pm 7 \pm 32)\times10^{-5}$. We examine multibody mass combinations in the resonant three-particle $Σ_{c}\bar{p}π$ final states and in the four-particle $Λ_{c}^{+}\bar{p}π^{+}π^{-}$ final state, and observe different characteristics for the $\bar{p}π$ combination in neutral versus doubly-charged $Σ_{c}$ decays.

We report the results of a study of the exclusive charmless semileptonic decays, B^0 --> pi^- l^+ nu, B^+ --> pi^0 l^+ nu, B^+ --> omega l^+ nu, B^+ --> eta l^+ nu and B^+ --> eta^' l^+ nu, (l = e or mu) undertaken with approximately 462x10^6 B\bar{B} pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector. The analysis uses events in which the signal B decays are reconstructed with a loose neutrino reconstruction technique. We obtain partial branching fractions in several bins of q^2, the square of the momentum transferred to the lepton-neutrino pair, for B^0 --> pi^- l^+ nu, B^+ --> pi^0 l^+ nu, B^+ --> omega l^+ nu and B^+ --> eta l^+ nu. From these distributions, we extract the form-factor shapes f_+(q^2) and the total branching fractions BF(B^0 --> pi^- l^+ nu) = (1.45 +/- 0.04_{stat} +/- 0.06_{syst})x10^-4 (combined pi^- and pi^0 decay channels assuming isospin symmetry), BF(B^+ --> omega l^+ nu) = (1.19 +/- 0.16_{stat} +/- 0.09_{syst})x10^-4 and BF(B^+ --> eta l^+ nu) = (0.38 +/- 0.05_{stat} +/- 0.05_{syst})x10^-4. We also measure BF(B^+ --> eta^' l^+ nu) = (0.24 +/- 0.08_{stat} +/- 0.03_{syst})x10^-4. We obtain values for the magnitude of the CKM matrix element V_{ub} by direct comparison with three different QCD calculations in restricted q^2 ranges of B --> pi l^+ nu decays. From a simultaneous fit to the experimental data over the full q^2 range and the FNAL/MILC lattice QCD predictions, we obtain |V_{ub}| = (3.25 +/- 0.31)x10^-3, where the error is the combined experimental and theoretical uncertainty.

Although CP violation in the B meson system has been well established by the B factories, there has been no direct observation of time reversal violation. The decays of entangled neutral B mesons into definite flavor states ($B^0$ or $\bar{B}^0$), and $J/ψK_S^0$ or $c\bar{c} K_S^0$ final states (referred to as $B_+$ or $B_-$), allow comparisons between the probabilities of four pairs of T-conjugated transitions, for example, $\bar{B}^0 \rightarrow B_-$ and $B_- \rightarrow \bar{B}^0$, as a function of the time difference between the two B decays. Using 468 million $B\bar{B}$ pairs produced in $Υ(4S)$ decays collected by the BABAR detector at SLAC, we measure T-violating parameters in the time evolution of neutral B mesons, yielding $ΔS_T^+ = -1.37 \pm 0.14 (stat.) \pm 0.06 (syst.)$ and $ΔS_T^- = 1.17 \pm 0.18 (stat.) \pm 0.11 (syst.)$. These nonzero results represent the first direct observation of T violation through the exchange of initial and final states in transitions that can only be connected by a T-symmetry transformation.

We report the observation of the baryonic B decay B0bar --> Lambda_c^+ anti-Lambda K- with a significance larger than 7 standard deviations based on 471x10^6$ BBbar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at SLAC. The uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty in the Lambda_c^+ branching fraction. We find that the Lambda_c^+ K^- invariant mass distribution shows an enhancement above 3.5 GeV/c^2.

The width of the observed signal is consistent with experimental resolution, and its significance is 3.1sigma, including systematic uncertainties. Combined with an upgrade to Gigabit Ethernet on the source side and a major feature extraction software speedup, this pushes the performance of the BaBar event builder and L3 filter to 5.5kHz at current background levels, almost three times the original design rate of 2kHz. For our specific application the new farm provides 8.5 times the CPU power of the old system.

The configuration database is one of the vital systems in the BaBar on-line system. It provides services for the different parts of the data acquisition system and control system, which require run-time parameters. The original design and implementation of the configuration database played a significant role in the successful BaBar operations since the beginning of experiment. Recent additions to the design of the configuration database provide better means for the management of data and add new tools to simplify main configuration tasks. We describe the design of the configuration database, its implementation with the Objectivity/DB object-oriented database, and our experience collected during the years of operation.

The energy dependence of the cross section was analyzed in the framework of the vector meson dominance model. The data are well described by a sum of phi,omega,rho0->pi0 gamma decay contributions with measured decay probabilities: Br(omega->pi0 gamma)=(9.34+-0.15+-0.31)% and Br(rho0->pi0 gamma)=(5.15+-1.16+-0.73)*10^-4 . The rho-omega relative interference phase is phi(rho,omega}=(-10.2+-6.5+-2.5) degree.

The cross section of the process $e^+e^-\to π^+π^-π^0$ was measured in the Spherical Neutral Detector experiment at the VEPP-2M collider in the energy region $\sqrt[]{s} = 980 ÷1380$ MeV. The measured cross section, together with the $e^+e^-\to π^+π^-π^0$ and $ωπ^+π^-$ cross sections obtained in other experiments, was analyzed in the framework of the generalized vector meson dominance model. It was found that the experimental data can be described by a sum of $ω$, $φ$ mesons and two $ω^\prime$ and $ω^{\prime\prime}$ resonances contributions, with masses $m_{ω^\prime}\sim 1490$,$m_{ω^{\prime\prime}}\sim 1790$ MeV and widths $Γ_{ω^\prime}\sim 1210$, $Γ_{ω^{\prime\prime}}\sim 560$ MeV. The analysis of the $π^+π^-$ invariant mass spectra in the energy region $\sqrt[]{s}$ from 1100 to 1380 MeV has shown that for their descriptionone should take into account the $e^+e^-\toωπ^0\toπ^+π^-π^0$ mechanism also. The phase between the amplitudes corresponding to the $e^+e^-\toωπ$ and $e^+e^-\toρπ$ intermediate states was measured for the first time. The value of the phase is close to zero and depends on energy.

These studies were based on about $0.5 \times 10^6$ experimental events. The spectra were analyzed in the framework of the vector meson dominance model. It was found that the experimental data can be described with $e^+e^- \to ρπ\to π^+π^-π^0$ transition only. Upper limit on the branching ratio of the $φ(1020)\toπ^+π^-π^0$ decay through intermediate states different from $ρπ$ was obtained at the 90 % confidence level: $B(φ\toπ^+π^-π^0)<6 \cdot 10^{-4}$. The $ρ$-meson mass and width which follow from the spectra analysis are $m_ρ=775.0\pm 1.3$ MeV, $Γ_ρ=150.4 \pm 3.0$ MeV. Neutral and charged $ρ$-mesons mass difference was found to equal $m_{ρ^\pm}-m_{ρ^0}=-1.3\pm2.3$ MeV. In the $π^+π^-$ mass spectrum the $ρ-ω$ interference was seen at two standard deviations level.

Abstract:
The process e+e-->mu+mu- has been studied by SND detector at VEPP-2M e+e- collider in the phi(1020)-resonance energy region. Themeasured cross sections have been analyzed in the framework of the vector meson dominance model and the main parameters of the $φ$-resonance were obtained, such as its mass, width, the production cross section and branching ratios of the main decay modes. The measured value of the $φ$ meson total width, $Γ_φ = 4.21 \pm 0.04$ is lower than the present world average of $4.458 \pm 0.032$ MeV. Contributions in addition to the conventional vector meson dominance model were found in the $e^+e^- \to π^+π^-π^0$ reaction cross section.

Its crucial part is a 3-layer, fine grained, spherical NaI(Tl) electromagnetic calorimeter consisted of 1632 individual counters. Here we present a detailed description of the calorimeter and its performance, including such topics as calorimeter design, electronics, calibration, energy and spatial resolutions, particle identification. The calorimeter performance is illustrated by examples from the current studies of different physical processes.

Abstract:
The $e^+e^- \to ωπ^0 \to π^0 π^0 γ$ process was investigated in the SND experiment at the VEPP-2M collider. A narrow energy interval near the $φ$-meson was scanned. Abstract:
The search for CP-violating K_S\to3π^0 decay was performed with SND detector at VEPP-2M e^+e^- collider. The total amount of data corresponding to 7 million produced K_S mesons was analyzed. No candidate events were found, giving an upper limit of the decay branching ratio: Br(K_S\to3π^0) < 1.4\cdot10^{-5} at 90% confidence level.
