Abstract:
ALMA data toward QSO J1851+0035 ($l$=$33.498^{\circ}$, $b$=$+0.194^{\circ}$) were used to study absorption lines by Galactic molecular gas. We detected 17 species (CO, $^{13}$CO, C$^{18}$O, HCO$^+$, H$^{13}$CO$^+$, HCO, H$_2$CO, C$_2$H, $c$-C$_3$H, $c$-C$_3$H$_2$, CN, HCN, HNC, CS, SO, SiO, and C) and set upper limits to 18 species as reference values for chemical models. About 20 independent velocity components at 4.7-10.9 kpc from the Galactic Center were identified. Their column density and excitation temperature estimated from the absorption study, as well as the CO intensity distributions obtained from the FUGIN survey, indicate that the components with $τ$ $\lesssim$ 1 correspond to diffuse clouds or cloud outer edges. Simultaneous multiple-Gaussian fitting of CO $J$=1-0 and $J$=2-1 absorption lines shows that these are composed of narrow- and broad-line components. The kinetic temperature empirically expected from the high HCN/HNC isomer ratio ($\gtrsim$4) reaches $\gtrsim$40 K and the corresponding thermal width accounts for the line widths of the narrow-line components. CN-bearing molecules and hydrocarbons have tight and linear correlations within the groups. The CO/HCO$^+$ abundance ratio showed a dispersion as large as 3 orders of magnitude with a smaller ratio in a smaller $N$(HCO$^+$) (or lower $A_{\rm V}$) range. Some of the velocity components are detected in single-dish CO emission and ALMA HCO$^+$ absorption but without corresponding ALMA CO absorption. This may be explained by the mixture of clumpy CO emitters not resolved with the $\sim$1 pc single-dish beam surrounded by extended components with a very low CO/HCO$^+$ abundance ratio (i.e., CO-poor gas).

Lattice softness has a significant impact on charge carrier dynamics in condensed matter systems, contributing to the emergence of various properties and functions. Examples include the remarkable carrier lifetimes and defect tolerances of hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites. Recent studies suggest the contribution of quartic anharmonicity of the lattice vibrations. The quartic anharmonicity can be discussed with a double-well potential, and the transition between the two minima can be coarse-grained as a two-state jump stochastic process. Such a stochastic approach is typically employed to describe dynamic fluctuations introduced into a system by two-state transitions in the surroundings. To investigate charge transport in materials, however, it is crucial to describe not only the fluctuations but also the dynamic lattice distortion associated with charge transport. Therefore, there is a need for a theory to describe the charge carrier dynamics proceeding alongside the lattice distortion dynamics. In this study, we present a theory that describes quantum dynamics under the influence of an environment with two stable states, termed a bistable environment. The theory describes the effects of fluctuations and dissipation induced from the bistable environment in a reasonable manner, and the effects exhibit a different temperature dependence than the widely employed Gaussian environment. The physical implication of this temperature dependence is provided in terms of the environmental dynamics. The results of this study are expected to provide a step forward in describing charge carrier dynamics in materials with lattice softness and pronounced lattice anharmonicity, e.g., hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites. Moreover, these findings represent an advancement in our understanding of and capacity to predict and control the physical properties and functions of these materials.

We consider composition orderings for linear functions of one variable. Given $n$ linear functions $f_1,\dots,f_n$ and a constant $c$, the objective is to find a permutation $σ$ that minimizes/maximizes $f_{σ(n)}\circ\dots\circ f_{σ(1)}(c)$. It was first studied in the area of time-dependent scheduling, and known to be solvable in $O(n\log n)$ time if all functions are nondecreasing. In this paper, we present a complete characterization of optimal composition orderings for this case, by regarding linear functions as two-dimensional vectors. We also show several interesting properties on optimal composition orderings such as the equivalence between local and global optimality. Furthermore, by using the characterization above, we provide a fixed-parameter tractable (FPT) algorithm for the composition ordering problem for general linear functions, with respect to the number of decreasing linear functions. We next deal with matrix multiplication orderings as a generalization of composition of linear functions. Given $n$ matrices $M_1,\dots,M_n\in\mathbb{R}^{m\times m}$ and two vectors $w,y\in\mathbb{R}^m$, where $m$ denotes a positive integer, the objective is to find a permutation $σ$ that minimizes/maximizes $w^\top M_{σ(n)}\dots M_{σ(1)} y$. The problem is also viewed as a generalization of flow shop scheduling through a limit. By this extension, we show that the multiplication ordering problem for $2\times 2$ matrices is solvable in $O(n\log n)$ time if all the matrices are simultaneously triangularizable and have nonnegative determinants, and FPT with respect to the number of matrices with negative determinants, if all the matrices are simultaneously triangularizable. As the negative side, we finally prove that three possible natural generalizations are NP-hard: 1) when $m=2$, 2) when $m\geq 3$, and 3) the target version of the problem.

Xenon dual-phase time projections chambers (TPCs) have proven to be a successful technology in studying physical phenomena that require low-background conditions. With 40t of liquid xenon (LXe) in the TPC baseline design, DARWIN will have a high sensitivity for the detection of particle dark matter, neutrinoless double beta decay ($0νββ$), and axion-like particles (ALPs). Although cosmic muons are a source of background that cannot be entirely eliminated, they may be greatly diminished by placing the detector deep underground. In this study, we used Monte Carlo simulations to model the cosmogenic background expected for the DARWIN observatory at four underground laboratories: Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS), Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF), Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane (LSM) and SNOLAB. We determine the production rates of unstable xenon isotopes and tritium due to muon-included neutron fluxes and muon-induced spallation. These are expected to represent the dominant contributions to cosmogenic backgrounds and thus the most relevant for site selection.

One of the most important topics in discrete fair division is whether an EFX allocation exists for any instance. Although the existence of EFX allocations is a standing open problem for both goods and chores, the understanding of the existence of EFX allocations for chores is less established compared to goods. We study the existence of EFX allocation for chores under the assumption that all agent's cost functions are additive. Specifically, we show the existence of EFX allocations for the following three cases: (i) the number of chores is at most twice the number of agents, (ii) the cost functions of all agents except for one are identical ordering, and (iii) the number of agents is three and each agent has a personalized bi-valued cost function. Furthermore, we provide a polynomial time algorithm to find an EFX allocation for each case.

Although the magnetically dead layers in the as-grown samples are formed near the interface with the $\text{Al}_2\text{O}_3$ buffer layer, we reveal that ferrimagnetic order is partially recovered by post-deposition annealing at 973 K for 48 hours in air. By analyzing the line shapes of the XAS and XMCD spectra, we conclude that, in the dead layers, there are a significant number of vacancies at the $T_d$ sites of the spinel structure, which may be the microscopic origin of the degraded ferrimagnetic order in the $M\text{Fe}_2\text{O}_4$(111) thin films.

The energetic positions of molecular electronic states at molecule/electrode interfaces are crucial factors for determining the transport and optoelectronic properties of molecular junctions. Strong light--matter coupling offers a potential for manipulating these factors, enabling to boost in the efficiency and versatility of these junctions. Here, we investigate electroluminescence from single-molecule junctions in which the molecule is strongly coupled with the vacuum electromagnetic field in a plasmonic nanocavity. We demonstrate an improvement in the electroluminescence efficiency by employing the strong light--matter coupling in conjunction with the characteristic feature of single-molecule junctions to selectively control the formation of the lowest-energy excited state. The mechanism of efficiency improvement is discussed based on the energetic position and composition of the formed polaritonic states. Our findings indicate the possibility to manipulate optoelectronic conversion in molecular junctions by strong light--matter coupling and contribute to providing design principles for develo** efficient molecular optoelectronic devices.

In the paper, we develop an $L^1_k\cap L^p_k$ approach to construct global solutions to the Cauchy problem on the non-cutoff Boltzmann equation near equilibrium in $\mathbb{R}^3$. In particular, only smallness of $\|\mathcal{F}_x{f}_0\|_{L^1\cap L^p (\mathbb{R}^3_k;L^2(\mathbb{R}^3_v))}$ with $3/2<p\leq \infty$ is imposed on initial data $f_0(x,v)$, where $\mathcal{F}_x{f}_0(k,v)$ is the Fourier transform in space variable. This provides the first result on the global existence of such low-regularity solutions without relying on Sobolev embedding $H^2(\mathbb{R}^3_x)\subset L^\infty(\mathbb{R}^3_x)$ in case of the whole space. Different from the use of sufficiently smooth Sobolev spaces in those classical results by Gressman-Strain and AMUXY, there is a crucial difference between the torus case and the whole space case for low regularity solutions under consideration. In fact, for the former, it is enough to take the only $L^1_k$ norm corresponding to the Weiner space as studied in Duan-Liu-Sakamoto-Strain. In contrast, for the latter, the extra interplay with the $L^p_k$ norm plays a vital role in controlling the nonlinear collision term due to the degenerate dissipation of the macroscopic component. Indeed, the propagation of $L^p_k$ norm helps gain an almost optimal decay rate $ (1+t)^{-\frac{3}{2} (1-\frac{1}{p})_+}$ of the $L^1_k$ norm via the time-weighted energy estimates in the spirit of the idea of Kawashima-Nishibata-Nishikawa and in turn, this is necessarily used for establishing the global existence.

In this study, we perform x-ray magnetic circular dichroism measurements on Fe/LiF/MgO multilayers to reveal the origin of the PMA enhancement. We find that the LiF insertion increases the orbital-magnetic-moment anisotropy and thus the magnetic anisotropy energy. We attribute the origin of this orbital-magnetic-moment-anisotropy enhancement to the stronger electron localization and electron-electron correlation or the better interface quality with fewer defects.

Whilst the g-factor can be anisotropic due to the spin-orbit interaction (SOI), its existence in solids cannot be simply asserted from a band structure, which hinders progress on studies from such the viewpoints. The g-factor in bismuth (Bi) is largely anisotropic; especially for holes at T-point, the g-factor perpendicular to the trigonal axis is negligibly small (< 0.112), whereas the g-factor along the trigonal axis is very large (62.7). We clarified in this work that the large g- factor anisotropy gives rise to the gigantic spin conversion anisotropy in Bi from experimental and theoretical approaches. Spin-torque ferromagnetic resonance was applied to estimate the spin conversion efficiency in rhombohedral (110) Bi to be 17%, which is unlike the negligibly small efficiency in Bi(111). Harmonic Hall measurements supports the large spin conversion efficiency in Bi(110). This is the first observation of gigantic spin conversion anisotropy as the clear manifestation of the g-factor anisotropy. Beyond the emblematic case of Bi, our study unveiled the significance of the g-factor anisotropy in condensed-matter physics and can pave a pathway toward establishing novel spin physics under g-factor control.

This paper proposes a new voice conversion (VC) task from human speech to dog-like speech while preserving linguistic information as an example of human to non-human creature voice conversion (H2NH-VC) tasks. Although most VC studies deal with human to human VC, H2NH-VC aims to convert human speech into non-human creature-like speech. Non-parallel VC allows us to develop H2NH-VC, because we cannot collect a parallel dataset that non-human creatures speak human language. In this study, we propose to use dogs as an example of a non-human creature target domain and define the "speak like a dog" task. To clarify the possibilities and characteristics of the "speak like a dog" task, we conducted a comparative experiment using existing representative non-parallel VC methods in acoustic features (Mel-cepstral coefficients and Mel-spectrograms), network architectures (five different kernel-size settings), and training criteria (variational autoencoder (VAE)- based and generative adversarial network-based). Finally, the converted voices were evaluated using mean opinion scores: dog-likeness, sound quality and intelligibility, and character error rate (CER). The experiment showed that the employment of the Mel-spectrogram improved the dog-likeness of the converted speech, while it is challenging to preserve linguistic information. Challenges and limitations of the current VC methods for H2NH-VC are highlighted.

Measured XAS and XMCD spectra indicate that both Cr and Mn atoms are divalent and that the ferromagnetic or superparamagnetic components of Cr and Mn are aligned in the same directions. The magnetization of Mn increases with increasing Cr content. These results can be explained if ferromagnetic interaction exists between neighboring Mn and Cr ions although interaction between Mn atoms is largely antiferromagnetic. We conclude that each ferromagnetic or superparamagnetic cluster consists of ferromagnetically coupled several Cr and a much larger number of Mn ions.

Fe-doped III-V ferromagnetic semiconductor (FMS) (In,Fe)Sb is a promising material for spintronic device applications because of the n-type carrier conduction and the ferromagnetism with high Curie temperature (TC > 300 K). To clarify the mechanism of the high-TC ferromagnetism, we have investigated the electronic structure and magnetic properties of an (In,Fe)Sb thin film by performing x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) measurements at the Fe L2,3 edges. The magnetic-field dependence of the XMCD spectra reveals that there are ferromagnetic-like Fe and paramagnetic-like Fe components in the (In,Fe)Sb thin film. The XAS and XMCD spectra of the ferromagnetic-like and paramagnetic-like Fe components resemble those of other Fe-doped FMSs and extrinsic oxides, respectively. The finite value of the ratio between the orbital and spin magnetic moments estimated by applying the XMCD sum rules indicates that the valence state of the Fe ions substituting for the In sites in (In,Fe)Sb is not purely ionic Fe3+, but intermediate between Fe3+ and Fe2+. The qualitative correspondence between the magnetic-field dependence of the visible-light magnetic circular dichroism intensity and that of the XMCD intensity demonstrates that the Zeeman splitting of the InSb band is proportional to the net magnetization of the doped Fe. These results suggest that the ferromagnetism of (In,Fe)Sb originates from the Fe 3d orbitals hybridized with the host InSb bands.

The magnetic properties and the electronic excitations of the new diluted magnetic semiconductor Ba$_{1-x}$K$_{x}$(Zn$_{1-y}$Mn$_{y}$)$_{2}$As$_{2}$ have been studied by x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) and resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) at the Mn $L_{2,3}$ edge. The sum rule analysis of the XMCD spectra yields the net spin moment of $0.45μ_{\text{B}}$/Mn and the small orbital moment of $0.05μ_{\text{B}}$/Mn. This indicates that the Mn atoms are in the high-spin configurations of $d^{5}$, whereas the presence of competing ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions between the Mn ions reduces the net spin moment. RIXS spectra show broad peaks from 1 to 6 eV energy loss, which originate from the $d$-$d$ crystal field excitations of the Mn ions. Based on a comparison of the RIXS line shapes with those of Ga$_{1-x}$Mn$_{x}$As, we conclude that the ground state of Mn in Ba$_{1-x}$K$_{x}$(Zn$_{1-y}$Mn$_{y}$)$_{2}$As$_{2}$ consists not only of the charge-transferred $3d^{5}\underline{L}$ electron configuration ($\underline{L}$: ligand hole) with weakly bound holes as in Ga$_{1-x}$Mn$_{x}$As, but also of the pure $3d^{5}$ configuration with free holes.

The previously reported chiralityinduced current-perpendicular-to-plane magnetoresistance (CPP-MR) originates from the chiral induced spin-selectivity (CISS) effect that needs charge-current passing through the molecule. In contrast, the observed CIP-MR in the present study requires no bias charge current through the molecule. The temperature dependence of CIP-MR suggests thermally induced spin-polarization in the chiral molecules is the key for the observed MR.

The van der Waals ferromagnet Cr$_2$Ge$_2$Te$_6$ (CGT) has a two-dimensional crystal structure where each layer is stacked through van der Waals force. We have investigated the nature of the ferromagnetism and the weak perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) of CGT by means of X-ray absorption spectroscopy and X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) studies of CGT single crystals. The XMCD spectra at the Cr $L_{2,3}$ edge for different magnetic field directions were analyzed on the basis of the cluster-model multiplet calculation. The Cr valence is confirmed to be 3+ and the orbital magnetic moment is found to be nearly quenched, as expected for the high-spin $t_{2g}$$^3$ configuration of the Cr$^{3+}$ ion. A large ($\sim 0.2$ eV) trigonal crystal-field splitting of the $t_{2g}$ level caused by the distortion of the CrTe$_6$ octahedron has been revealed, while the single-ion anisotropy (SIA) of the Cr atom is found to have a sign {\it opposite} to the observed PMA and too weak compared to the reported anisotropy energy. The present result suggests that anisotropic exchange coupling between the Cr atoms through the ligand Te $5p$ orbitals having strong spin-orbit coupling has to be invoked to explain the weak PMA of CGT, as in the case of the strong PMA of CrI$_3$.

A magnetic Weyl semimetal is a recent focus of extensive research as it may exhibit large and robust transport phenomena associated with topologically protected Weyl points in momentum space. Since a magnetic texture provides a handle for the configuration of the Weyl points and its transport response, understanding of magnetic dynamics should form a basis of future control of a topological magnet. Mn3Sn is an example of an antiferromagnetic Weyl semimetal that exhibits a large response comparable to the one observed in ferromagnets despite a vanishingly small magnetization. The non-collinear spin order in Mn3Sn can be viewed as a ferroic order of cluster magnetic octupole and breaks the time-reversal symmetry, stabilizing Weyl points and the significantly enhanced Berry curvature near the Fermi energy. Here we report our first observation of time-resolved octupole oscillation in Mn3Sn. In particular, we find the giant effective dam** of the octupole dynamics, and it is feasible to conduct an ultrafast switching at < 10 ps, a hundred times faster than the case of spin-magnetization in a ferromagnet. Moreover, high domain wall velocity over 10 km/s is theoretically predicted. Our work paves the path towards realizing ultrafast electronic devices using the topological antiferromagnet.

On the other hand, (Ga,Fe)As, which has the same zinc-blende crystal structure as the Fe-doped III-V FMSs, shows paramagnetism. The origin of the different magnetic properties in the Fe-doped III-V semiconductors remains to be elucidated. To address this issue, we use resonant photoemission spectroscopy (RPES) and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) to investigate the electronic and magnetic properties of the Fe ions in a paramagnetic (Ga$_{0.95}$,Fe$_{0.05}$)As thin film. The observed Fe 2$p$-3$d$ RPES spectra show that the Fe 3$d$ states are similar to those of ferromagnetic (Ga,Fe)Sb. The estimated Fermi level is located in the middle of the band gap in (Ga,Fe)As. The Fe $L_{2,3}$ XMCD spectra of (Ga$_{0.95}$,Fe$_{0.05}$)As show pre-edge structures, which are not observed in the Fe-doped FMSs, indicating that the minority-spin ($\downarrow$) $e_\downarrow$ states are vacant in (Ga$_{0.95}$,Fe$_{0.05}$)As. The XMCD results suggest that the carrier-induced ferromagnetic interaction in (Ga$_{0.95}$,Fe$_{0.05}$)As is short-ranged and weaker than that in the Fe-doped FMSs. The experimental findings suggest that the electron occupancy of the $e_\downarrow$ states contributes to the appearance of ferromagnetism in the Fe-doped III-V semiconductors, for p-type as well as n-type compounds.

Although this method is powerful, it can fail to preserve the linguistic content of input speech when the number of available training samples is extremely small. To overcome this problem, we propose the use of automatic speech recognition to assist model training, to improve StarGAN-VC, especially in low-resource scenarios.
Experimental results show that using our proposed method, StarGAN-VC can retain more linguistic information than vanilla StarGAN-VC.

However, when a CoFe$_2$O$_4$ film is grown on other materials, its magnetic properties are degraded so that so-called magnetically dead layers are expected to be formed in the interfacial region. We investigate how the magnetic anisotropy of CoFe$_2$O$_4$ is modified at the interface of CoFe$_2$O$_4$/Al$_2$O$_3$ bilayers grown on Si(111) using x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD). We find that the thinner CoFe$_2$O$_4$ films have significantly smaller MCA values than bulk materials. The reduction of MCA is explained by the reduced number of Co$^{2+}$ ions at the $O_h$ site reported by a previous study [Y. K. Wakabayashi $\textit{et al.}$, Phys. Rev. The experiment will search for the appearance of electron antineutrinos oscillated from muon antineutrinos. The electron antineutrinos are detected via the inverse beta decay process using a liquid scintillator detector. We have studied the Co layer thickness dependences of magnetocrystalline anisotropy (MCA), Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI), and orbital moment anisotropy (OMA) in W/Co/Pt trilayers, in order to clarify their correlations with each other. We find that the MCA favors magnetization along the film normal and monotonically increases with decreasing effective magnetic layer thickness ($t_\mathrm{eff}$). The magnitude of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya exchange constant ($|D|$) increases with decreasing $t_\mathrm{eff}$ until $t_\mathrm{eff} \sim$1 nm, below which $|D|$ decreases. The MCA and $|D|$ scale with $1/t_\mathrm{eff}$ for $t_\mathrm{eff}$ larger than $\sim$1 nm, indicating an interfacial origin. The increase of MCA with decreasing $t_\mathrm{eff}$ continues below $t_\mathrm{eff}$ $\sim$ 1 nm, but with a slower rate. To clarify the cause of the $t_\mathrm{eff}$ dependences of MCA and DMI, the OMA of Co in W/Co/Pt trilayers is studied using x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD). We find non-zero OMA when $t_\mathrm{eff}$ is smaller than $\sim$0.8 nm. The OMA increases with decreasing $t_\mathrm{eff}$ more rapidly than what is expected from the MCA, indicating that factors other than OMA contribute to the MCA at small $t_\mathrm{eff}$. The $t_\mathrm{eff}$ dependence of the OMA also suggests that $|D|$ at $t_\mathrm{eff}$ smaller than $\sim$1 nm is not related to the OMA at the interface. We propose that the growth of Co on W results in a strain and/or texture that reduces the interfacial DMI, and, to some extent, MCA at small $t_\mathrm{eff}$.

Phys. 153 (2020) 234107], we carried out "exact" numerical experiments using hierarchical equations of motion (HEOM) in which we demonstrated that the SB model describes behavior that is consistent with the first and second laws of thermodynamics and that the dynamics of the total system are time irreversible. The distinctive quantity in the Jarzynski equality is the "work characteristic function (WCF)", $\langle \exp[-βW] \rangle$, where $W$ is the work performed on the system and $β$ is the inverse temperature. In the present investigation, we consider the definitions based on the partition function (PF) and on the path, and numerically evaluate the WCF using the HEOM to determine a method for extending the Jarzynski equality to the fully quantum regime. We show that using the PF-based definition of the WCF, we obtain a result that is entirely inconsistent with the Jarzynski equality, while if we use the path-based definition, we obtain a result that approximates the Jarzynski equality, but may not be consistent with it.

This article describes the goal and expected sensitivity of the JSNS$^2$-II experiment at J-PARC Materials and Life Science Experimental Facility (MLF). The JSNS$^2$-II experiment is the second phase of the JSNS$^2$ experiment (J-PARC Sterile Neutrino Search at J-PARC Spallation Neutron Source) with two detectors which are located in 24 m (an existing detector) and 48 m (new one) baselines to improve the sensitivity of the search for sterile neutrinos, especially in the low $Δm^2$ region, which has been indicated by the global fit of the appearance mode. The new second detector has a similar structure as the existing JSNS$^2$ detector, which is already working. To compensate for the reduction of the neutrino flux due to the distance from the mercury target, the target mass of the Gd-loaded liquid scintillator which is the Linear AlkylBenzene (LAB) based liquid scintillator inside the acrylic vessel is 35 tons. To keep the same photo-coverage of the detector as the first detector, we will surround the acrylic vessel with 240 PMTs. With this experimental setup and 5 years (times 1 MW beam power) exposure, the sensitivity of the JSNS$^2$-II is significantly improved compared to the current JSNS$^2$, especially in the low $Δm^2$ oscillation parameter region. The JSNS$^2$-II can also confirm or refute the most of the oscillation parameters' space preferred by the previous experiments with 3 sigma C.L.. Considering these situations and world wide status of the sterile neutrino searches, we are eager to start the data taking with the two detector configuration from 2023. The fund to build the second detector was already secured.

We present a scheme to evaluate thermodynamic variables for a system coupled to a heat bath under a time-dependent external force using the quasi-static Helmholtz energy from the numerically "exact" hierarchical equations of motion (HEOM). We computed the entropy produced by a spin system strongly coupled to a non-Markovian heat bath for various temperatures. We showed that when changes to the external perturbation occurred sufficiently slowly, the system always reached thermal equilibrium. Thus, we calculated the Boltzmann entropy and the von Neumann entropy for an isothermal process, as well as various thermodynamic variables, such as changes of internal energies, heat, and work, for a system in quasi-static equilibrium based on the HEOM. We found that, although the characteristic features of the system entropies in the Boltzmann and von Neumann cases as a function of the system--bath coupling strength are similar, those for the total entropy production are completely different. The total entropy production in the Boltzmann case is always positive, whereas that in the von Neumann case becomes negative if we chose a thermal equilibrium state of the total system (an unfactorized thermal equilibrium state) as the initial state. This is because the total entropy production in the von Neumann case does not properly take into account the contribution of the entropy from the system--bath interaction. Thus, the Boltzmann entropy must be used to investigate entropy production in the fully quantum regime. Finally, we examined the applicability of the Jarzynski equality.

Reading analysis can give important information about a user's confidence and habits and can be used to construct feedback to improve a user's reading behavior. A lack of labeled data inhibits the effective application of fully-supervised Deep Learning (DL) for automatic reading analysis. In this paper, we propose a self-supervised DL method for reading analysis and evaluate it on two classification tasks. We first evaluate the proposed self-supervised DL method on a four-class classification task on reading detection using electrooculography (EOG) glasses datasets, followed by an evaluation of a two-class classification task of confidence estimation on answers of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) using eye-tracking datasets. Fully-supervised DL and support vector machines (SVMs) are used to compare the performance of the proposed self-supervised DL method. The results show that the proposed self-supervised DL method is superior to the fully-supervised DL and SVM for both tasks, especially when training data is scarce. This result indicates that the proposed self-supervised DL method is the superior choice for reading analysis tasks. The results of this study are important for informing the design and implementation of automatic reading analysis platforms.

We report the discovery of a 10 comoving Mpc-scale structure traced by massive submillimeter galaxies (SMGs) at z~4.6. These galaxies are selected from an emission line search of ALMA Band 7 observations targeting 184 luminous submillimeter sources ($S_{850μ{\rm m}}\geq$ 6.2 mJy) across 1.6 degrees$^2$ in the COSMOS field. We identify four [CII] emitting SMGs and two probable [CII] emitting SMG candidates at z=4.60-4.64 with velocity-integrated signal-to-noise ratio of SNR>8. Four of the six emitters are near-infrared blank SMGs. After excluding one SMG whose emission line is falling at the edge of the spectral window, all galaxies show clear velocity gradients along the major axes that are consistent with rotating gas disks. The estimated rotation velocities of the disks are 330-550 km s$^{-1}$ and the inferred host dark-matter halo masses are ~2-8 $\times$ 10$^{12}$M$_{\odot}$. From their estimated halo masses and [CII] luminosity function, we suggest that these galaxies have a high (50-100%) duty cycle and high (~0.1) baryon conversion efficiency (SFR relative to baryon accretion rate), and that they contribute $\simeq$2% to the total star-formation rate density at z=4.6. These SMGs are concentrated within just 0.3% of the full survey volume, suggesting they are strongly clustered. The extent of this structure and the individual halo masses suggest that these SMGs will likely evolve into members of a ~10$^{15}$M$_{\odot}$ cluster at z=0. This survey reveals synchronized dusty starburst in massive halos at z>4, which could be driven by mergers or fed by smooth gas accretion.

Perpendicular magnetic anisotropy of the new ferromagnetic semiconductor (Ba,K)(Zn,Mn)$_{2}$As$_{2}$ is studied by angle-dependent x-ray magnetic circular dichroism measurements. The large magnetic anisotropy with the anisotropy field of 0.85 T is deduced by fitting the Stoner-Wohlfarth model to the magnetic-field-angle dependence of the projected magnetic moment. Transverse XMCD spectra highlights the anisotropic distribution of Mn 3$d$ electrons, where the $d_{xz}$ and $d_{yz}$ orbitals are less populated than the $d_{xy}$ state because of the $D_{2d}$ splitting arising from the elongated MnAs$_{4}$ tetrahedra. It is suggested that the magnetic anisotropy originates from the degeneracy lifting of $p$-$d_{xz}$, $d_{yz}$ hybridized states at the Fermi level and resulting energy gain due to spin-orbit coupling when spins are aligned along the $z$ direction.

(Ga$_{1-x}$,Fe$_x$)Sb is one of the promising ferromagnetic semiconductors for spintronic device applications because its Curie temperature ($T_{\rm C}$) is above 300 K when the Fe concentration $x$ is equal to or higher than ~0.20. However, the origin of the high $T_{\rm C}$ in (Ga,Fe)Sb remains to be elucidated. To address this issue, we use resonant photoemission spectroscopy (RPES) and first-principles calculations to investigate the $x$ dependence of the Fe 3$d$ states in (Ga$_{1-x}$,Fe$_x$)Sb ($x$ = 0.05, 0.15, and 0.25) thin films. The observed Fe 2$p$-3$d$ RPES spectra reveal that the Fe-3$d$ impurity band (IB) crossing the Fermi level becomes broader with increasing $x$, which is qualitatively consistent with the picture of double-exchange interaction. Comparison between the obtained Fe-3$d$ partial density of states and the first-principles calculations suggests that the Fe-3$d$ IB originates from the minority-spin ($\downarrow$) $e$ states. The results indicate that enhancement of the interaction between $e_\downarrow$ electrons with increasing $x$ is the origin of the high $T_{\rm C}$ in (Ga,Fe)Sb.

In contrast with previous studies, sizable spin-transfer torque (i.e., a sizable spin-conversion effect) is observed in Bi/Py bilayer film. Considering the absence of spin conversion in Bi/yttrium-iron-garnet bilayers and the enhancement of spin conversion in Bi-doped Cu, the present results indicate the importance of material combinations to generate substantial spin-conversion effects in Bi.

We have developed a method to make a spectral-line-based survey of hot cores, which represent an important stage of high-mass star formation, and applied the method to the data of the FUGIN (FOREST Unbiased Galactic plane Imaging survey with the Nobeyama 45-m telescope) survey. First, we select hot core candidates by searching the FUGIN data for the weak hot core tracer lines (HNCO and CH$_3$CN) by stacking, and then we conduct follow-up pointed observations on these candidates in C$^{34}$S, SO, OCS, HC$_3$N, HNCO, CH$_3$CN, and CH$_3$OH $J=2-1$ and $J=8-7$ lines to confirm and characterize them. We applied this method to the $l = 10^\circ-20^\circ$ portion of the FUGIN data and identified 22 "Hot Cores" (compact sources with more than two significant detection of the hot core tracer lines, i.e., SO, OCS, HC$_3$N, HNCO, CH$_3$CN, or CH$_3$OH $J=8-7$ lines) and 14 "Dense Clumps" (sources with more than two significant detection of C$^{34}$S, CH$_3$OH $J=2-1$, or the hot core tracer lines). The identified Hot Cores are found associated with signposts of high-mass star formation such as ATLASGAL clumps, WISE HII regions, and Class II methanol masers. For those associated with ATLASGAL clumps, their bolometric luminosity to clump mass ratios are consistent with the star formation stages centered at the hot core phase. The catalog of FUGIN Hot Cores provides a useful starting point for further statistical studies and detailed observations of high-mass star forming regions.

Perovskite-type manganites, which are well-known for their intriguing physical properties such as colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) and half metalicity, have been considered as candidate materials for spintronics. However, their ferromagnetic (FM) properties are often suppressed in thin films when the thickness is reduced down to several monolayers (MLs). In order to investigate how the magnetic phases evolve near the paramagnetic (PM)-to-FM phase transition boundary, we have performed temperature-dependent x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) experiments on a La$_{1-x}$Sr$_{x}$MnO$_3$ (LSMO, $x=0.4$) thin film, whose thickness (8 ML) is close to the boundary between the FM-metallic and the PM-insulating phases. By utilizing the element-selectiveness of XMCD, we have quantitatively estimated the fractions of the PM and superparamagnetic (SPM) phases as well as the FM one as a function of temperature. The results can be reasonably described based on a microscopic phase-separation model.

The JSNS$^2$ detector contains 17 tons of 0.1\% gadolinium (Gd) loaded liquid scintillator (LS) as a neutrino target. Detector construction was completed in the spring of 2020. A slow control and monitoring system (SCMS) was implemented for reliable control and quick monitoring of the detector operational status and environmental conditions. It issues an alarm if any of the monitored parameters exceed a preset acceptable range. The SCMS monitors the high voltage (HV) of the photomultiplier tubes (PMTs), the LS level in the detector, possible LS overflow and leakage, the temperature and air pressure in the detector, the humidity of the experimental hall, and the LS flow rate during filling and extraction. An initial 10 days of data-taking with a neutrino beam was done following a successful commissioning of the detector and SCMS in June 2020. In this paper, we present a description of the assembly and installation of the SCMS and its performance.

SmO thin film is a new Kondo system showing a resistivity upturn around 10 K and was theoretically proposed to have a topologically nontrivial band structure. We have performed hard x-ray and soft x-ray photoemission spectroscopy to elucidate the electronic structure of SmO. From the Sm 3$d$ core-level spectra, we have estimated the valence of Sm to be $\sim$2.96, proving that the Sm has a mixed valence. The valence-band photoemission spectra exhibit a clear Fermi edge originating from the Sm 5$d$-derived band. The present finding is consistent with the theory suggesting a possible topological state in SmO and show that rare-earth monoxides or their heterostructures can be a new playground for the interplay of strong electron correlation and spin-orbit coupling.

The electronic structures of Fe-doped III-V semiconductors were studied by first-principles supercell calculation. It was found that their electronic structures are basically the same as those of Mn-doped ones except that the extra electron of Fe compared to Mn occupies either majority-spin $p$-$d$ hybridized antibonding states ($t_{a,\uparrow}$) or minority-spin $e$ states ($e_{\downarrow}$) and that the center of gravity of the $d$ partial density of states is higher for Fe than for Mn. The present calculations suggest that ferromagnetism appears when the $e_{\downarrow}$ states start to be occupied. The band splitting due to $s$-$d$ hybridization was found to be significantly smaller than the one due to $p$-$d$ hybridization. This indicates that the $s,p$-$d$ exchange interaction is not responsible for the high-temperature ferromagnetism of the Fe-doped ferromagnetic semiconductors even in $n$-type compounds.

Abstract:
Recently, hole-doped superconducting cuprates with the T'-structure La1.8-xEu0.2SrxCuO4 (LESCO) have attracted a lot of attention. We have performed x-ray photoemission and absorption spectroscopy measurements on as-grown and reduced T0-LESCO. Results show that electrons and holes were doped by reduction annealing and Sr substitution, respectively. However, it is shown that the system remains on t…

Results show that electrons and holes were doped by reduction annealing and Sr substitution, respectively. However, it is shown that the system remains on the electron-doped side of the Mott insulator or that the charge-transfer gap is collapsed in the parent compound.

This paper proves the existence of small-amplitude global-in-time unique mild solutions to both the Landau equation including the Coulomb potential and the Boltzmann equation without angular cutoff. Since the well-known works (Guo, 2002) and (Gressman-Strain-2011, AMUXY-2012) on the construction of classical solutions in smooth Sobolev spaces which in particular are regular in the spatial variables, it still remains an open problem to obtain global solutions in an $L^\infty_{x,v}$ framework, similar to that in (Guo-2010), for the Boltzmann equation with cutoff in general bounded domains. One main difficulty arises from the interaction between the transport operator and the velocity-diffusion-type collision operator in the non-cutoff Boltzmann and Landau equations; another major difficulty is the potential formation of singularities for solutions to the boundary value problem. In the present work we introduce a new function space with low regularity in the spatial variable to treat the problem in cases when the spatial domain is either a torus, or a finite channel with boundary. For the latter case, either the inflow boundary condition or the specular reflection boundary condition is considered. An important property of the function space is that the $L^\infty_T L^2_v$ norm, in velocity and time, of the distribution function is in the Wiener algebra $A(Ω)$ in the spatial variables. Besides the construction of global solutions in these function spaces, we additionally study the large-time behavior of solutions for both hard and soft potentials, and we further justify the property of propagation of regularity of solutions in the spatial variables.
