Non-Gaussian quantum gates are essential components for optical quantum information processing. However, the efficient implementation of practically important multi-mode higher-order non-Gaussian gates has not been comprehensively studied. We propose a measurement-based method to directly implement general, multi-mode, and higher-order non-Gaussian gates using only fixed non-Gaussian ancillary states and adaptive linear optics. Compared to existing methods, our method allows for a more resource-efficient and experimentally feasible implementation of multi-mode gates that are important for various applications in optical quantum technology, such as the two-mode cubic quantum non-demolition gate or the three-mode continuous-variable Toffoli gate, and their higher-order extensions. Our results will expedite the progress toward fault-tolerant universal quantum computing with light.

Continuous-variable (CV) quantum information processing is a promising candidate for large-scale fault-tolerant quantum computation. However, analysis of CV quantum process relies mostly on direct computation of the evolution of operators in the Heisenberg picture, and the features of CV space has yet to be thoroughly investigated in an intuitive manner. One key ingredient for further exploration of CV quantum computing is the construction of a computational model that brings visual intuition and new tools for analysis. In this paper, we delve into a graphical computational model, inspired by a similar model for qubit-based systems called the ZX calculus, that enables the representation of arbitrary CV quantum process as a simple directed graph. We demonstrate the utility of our model as a graphical tool to comprehend CV processes intuitively by showing how equivalences between two distinct quantum processes can be proven as a sequence of diagrammatic transformations in certain cases. We also examine possible applications of our model, such as measurement-based quantum computing, characterization of Gaussian and non-Gaussian processes, and circuit optimization.

We conducted measurements of $K^- + {^3{\rm He}} \to π\!Y \!N + N'$ reactions using a $1~{\rm GeV}/c$ $K^-$-beam, with the objective of understanding the broad decay width of $\bar{K} \!N \!N$ (approximately twice as broad as that of $Λ(1405)$ considered to be the $\bar{K} \!N$ quasi-bound state). We successfully reproduced distributions of the $π\! Y \! N$ invariant mass and momentum transfer for $π\! Y \! N$ using model fitting functions for $\bar{K} \!N \!N$ formation and quasi-free $\bar{K}$ absorption (${\rm QF}_{\bar{K}-{\rm abs}}$) processes. The model can describe the experimental data quite well, and four $\bar{K} \! N \! N \to π\! Y \! N $ cross-sections were obtained. The results indicate that mesonic decay is the dominant decay branch of $\bar{K} \! N \! N$. The results also suggest that $Γ_{πΛN} \sim Γ_{πΣN}$, which indicates that the $I_{\bar{K} \! N}=1$ absorption channel, in addition to the $I_{\bar{K} \! N}=0$ absorption channel, substantially contribute to the $\bar{K} \! N \! N$ decay, making the $\bar{K} \! N \! As the amount of loaded $\rm Gd_2(\rm SO_4)_3\cdot \rm 8H_2O$ was doubled compared to the first loading, the capacity of the powder dissolving system was doubled. We also developed new batches of gadolinium sulfate with even further reduced radioactive impurities. In addition, a more efficient screening method was devised and implemented to evaluate these new batches of $\rm Gd_2(\rm SO_4)_3\cdot \rm 8H_2O$. Following the second loading, the Gd concentration in SK was measured to be $333.5\pm2.5$ ppm via an Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS). From the mean neutron capture time constant of neutrons from an Am/Be calibration source, the Gd concentration was independently measured to be 332.7 $\pm$ 6.8(sys.) $\pm$ 1.1(stat.) ppm, consistent with the AAS result. Furthermore, during the loading the Gd concentration was monitored continually using the capture time constant of each spallation neutron produced by cosmic-ray muons, and the final neutron capture efficiency was shown to become 1.5 times higher than that of the first loaded phase, as expected.

Entanglement is a fundamental resource of various optical quantum-information-processing (QIP) applications. Towards high-speed QIP system, entanglement should be encoded in short wavepackets. We report real-time observation of ultrafast optical Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) correlation at a picosecond timescale in a continuous-wave (CW) system. Optical phase-sensitive amplification using 6-THz-bandwidth waveguide-optical-parametric amplifier enhances the effective efficiency of 70-GHz-bandwidth homodyne detectors, mainly used in 5th-generation telecommunication, enabling its use in real-time quantum-state measurement. While power measurement using frequency scanning, i.e., optical spectrum analyzer, is not performed in real-time, our observation is demonstrated through real-time amplitude measurement and can be directly employed in QIP applications. Observed EPR states show quantum correlation of 4.5 dB below shotnoise level encoded in wavepackets with 40-ps period, equivalent to 25-GHz repetition -- ${10^3}$ times faster than previous entanglement observation in CW system. The quantum correlation of 4.5 dB is already sufficient for several QIP applications, and our system can be readily extended to large-scale entanglement. Moreover, our scheme has high compatibility with optical communication technology such as wavelength-division multiplexing, and femtosecond-timescale observation is also feasible. Our demonstration is paradigm shift in accelerating accessible quantum correlation, the foundational resource of all quantum applications, from the nanosecond to picosecond timescale, enabling ultra-fast optical QIP.

Quantum information processors greatly benefit from high clock frequency to fully harnessing the quantum advantages before they get washed out by the decoherence. In this pursuit, all-optical systems offer unique advantages due to their inherent 100 THz carrier frequency, permitting one to develop THz clock frequency processors. In practice, the bandwidth of the quantum light sources and the measurement devices has been limited to the MHz range and the generation rate of nonclassical states to kHz order -- a tiny fraction of what can be achieved. In this work, we go beyond this limitation by utilizing optical parametric amplifier (OPA) as a squeezed-light source and optical phase-sensitive amplifiers (PSA) to realize high-rate generation of broadband non-Gaussian states and their quantum tomography. Our state generation and measurement system consists of a 6-THz squeezed-light source, a 6-THz PSA, and a 66-GHz homodyne detector. With this system, we have successfully demonstrated non-Gaussian state generation at a 0.9 MHz rate -- almost three orders of magnitude higher than the current state-of-the-art experiments -- with a sub-nanosecond wave packet using continuous-wave laser. The performance is constrained only by the superconducting detector's jitter which currently limits the usable bandwidth of the squeezed light to 1 GHz, rather than the optical and electronic systems. Therefore, if we can overcome the limitation of the timing jitter of superconducting detector, non-Gaussian state generation and detection at GHz rate, or even THz rate, for optical quantum processors might be possible with OPAs.

In order to provide a cloud service of optical quantum computing, it is inevitable to stabilize the optical system for many hours. It is advantageous to construct a fiber-based system, which does not require spatial alignment. However, fiber-based systems are instead subject to fiber-specific instabilities. For instance, there are phase drifts due to ambient temperature changes and external disturbances, and polarization fluctuations due to the finite polarization extinction ratio of fiber components. Here, we report the success of measuring squeezed light with a fiber system for 24 hours. To do this, we introduce stabilization mechanics to suppress fluctuations in the fiber system, and integrated controller to automatically align the entire system. The squeezed light at the wavelength of 1545.3 nm is measured every 2 minutes, where automated alignments are inserted every 30 minutes. The squeezing levels with the average of -4.42 dB are recorded with an extremely small standard deviation of 0.08 dB over 24 hours.

A quantum computer with low-error, high-speed quantum operations and capability for interconnections is required for useful quantum computations. A logical qubit called Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill (GKP) qubit in a single Bosonic harmonic oscillator is efficient for mitigating errors in a quantum computer. The particularly intriguing prospect of GKP qubits is that entangling gates as well as syndrome measurements for quantum error correction only require efficient, noise-robust linear operations. To date, however, GKP qubits have been only demonstrated at mechanical and microwave frequency in a highly nonlinear physical system. The physical platform that naturally provides the scalable linear toolbox is optics, including near-ideal loss-free beam splitters and near-unit efficiency homodyne detectors that allow to obtain the complete analog syndrome for optimized quantum error correction. Additional optical linear amplifiers and specifically designed GKP qubit states are then all that is needed for universal quantum computing. In this work, we realize a GKP state in propagating light at the telecommunication wavelength and demonstrate homodyne meausurements on the GKP states for the first time without any loss corrections. Our GKP states do not only show non-classicality and non-Gaussianity at room temperature and atmospheric pressure, but unlike the existing schemes with stationary qubits, they are realizable in a propagating wave system. This property permits large-scale quantum computation and interconnections, with strong compatibility to optical fibers and 5G telecommunication technology.

Numerous particle physics experiments utilize gadolinium (Gd), a rare earth element with the most significant neutron capture cross-section among all elements, to detect anti-neutrinos via inverse beta-decays or to remove neutron-induced background events. For example, to load Gd into water Cherenkov detectors, $\mathrm{{Gd_{2}(SO_{4})_{3}\cdot 8H_{2}O}}$ is dissolved and rare event search experiments are required to screen for radioactive impurities in $\mathrm{{Gd_{2}(SO_{4})_{3}\cdot 8H_{2}O}}$ before dissolution. This study developed a new method to rapidly measure the radium-226($\mathrm{^{226}Ra}$) concentration in $\mathrm{{Gd_{2}(SO_{4})_{3}\cdot 8H_{2}O}}$. This method requires only three days to measure a batch of samples, as opposed to the usual method using high-purity germanium detectors, which takes approximately 20 days after arrival. The detection limit for the measurement of $\mathrm{^{226}Ra}$ is 0.32 mBq/kg. This method has been already used for $\mathrm{{Gd_{2}(SO_{4})_{3}\cdot 8H_{2}O}}$ screening at the Super-Kamiokande Gd(SK-Gd) project, and it can be applied to future experiments.

We demonstrate, for the first time, the effective selection of the hypernuclear bound state using only the $γ$-ray energy decayed from $π^0$. This opens the possibility for a systematic study of isospin partner hypernuclei through comparison with data from ($K^-$, $π^-$) reaction. As the first application of this method, our result for the $^4_Λ$H lifetime, $τ(^4_Λ\mathrm{H}) = 206 \pm 8 (\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 12 (\mathrm{syst.})\ \mathrm{ps}$, is one of the most precise measurements to date. Measurement-based quantum computation with optical time-domain multiplexing is a promising method to realize a quantum computer from the viewpoint of scalability. Fault tolerance and universality are also realizable by preparing appropriate resource quantum states and electro-optical feedforward that is altered based on measurement results. While a linear feedforward has been realized and become a common experimental technique, nonlinear feedforward was unrealized until now. In this paper, we demonstrate that a fast and flexible nonlinear feedforward realizes the essential measurement required for fault-tolerant and universal quantum computation. Using non-Gaussian ancillary states we observed 10$\%$ reduction of the measurement excess noise relative to classical vacuum ancilla.

Communication in extreme environments is an important research topic for various use cases including environmental monitoring. A typical example is underwater acoustic communication for 6G mobile networks. The major challenges in such environments are extremely high-latency and high-error rate. They make real-time image transmission difficult using existing communication protocols. This is partly because frequent retransmission in noisy networks increases latency and leads to serious deterioration of real-timeness. To address this problem, this paper proposes a stochastic image transmission with Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP) for extreme environments. The goal of the proposed idea is to achieve approximate real-time image transmission without retransmission using CoAP over UDP. To this end, an image is divided into blocks, and value is assigned for each block based on the requirement. By the stochastic transmission of blocks, the reception probability is guaranteed without retransmission even when packets are lost in networks. We implemented the proposed scheme using Raspberry Pi 4 to demonstrate the feasibility. The performance of the proposed image transmission was confirmed from the experimental results.

We performed a novel $Σ^+ p$ scattering experiment at the J-PARC Hadron Experimental Facility. Approximately 2400 $Σ^+ p$ elastic scattering events were identified from $4.9 \times 10^7$ tagged $Σ^+$ particles in the $Σ^+$ momentum range 0.44 -- 0.80 GeV/$c$. The differential cross sections of the $Σ^+ p$ elastic scattering were derived with much better precision than in previous experiments. The obtained differential cross sections were approximately 2 mb/sr or less, which were not as large as those predicted by the fss2 and FSS models based on the quark cluster model in the short-range region. By performing phase-shift analyses for the obtained differential cross sections, we experimentally derived the phase shifts of the $^3 S_1$ and $^1 P_1$ channels for the first time. The phase shift of the $^3 S_1$ channel, where a large repulsive core was predicted owing to the Pauli effect between quarks, was evaluated as $20^\circ<|δ_{^3S_1}|<35^\circ$. If the sign of $δ_{^3S_1}$ is assumed to be negative, the interaction in this channel is moderately repulsive, as the Nijmegen extended-sort-core models predicted.

Optical switches and rerouting network are main obstacles to realize optical quantum computer. In particular, both components have been considered as essential components to the measurement-based time-domain optical quantum computation, which has seen promising developments regarding scalability in the recent years. Realizing optical switches and rerouting network with sufficient performance is, however, experimentally challenging as they must have extremely low loss, small switching time, high repetition rate, and minimum optical nonlinearity. In this work, we present an optical quantum computation platform that does not require such optical switches. Our method is based on continuous-variable measurement-based quantum computation, where instead of the typical cluster states, we modify the structure of the quantum entanglements, so that quantum teleportation protocol can be employed instead of the optical switching and rerouting. We also show that when combined with Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill encoding, our architecture can outperform the architecture with optical switches when the optical losses of the switches are not low.

The differential cross sections of the Σ-p --> Λ n reaction were measured accurately for the Σ- momentum (p_{Σ}) ranging from 470 to 650 MeV/c at the J-PARC Hadron Experimental Facility. Precise angular information about the Σ-p --> Λ n reaction was obtained for the first time by detecting approximately 100 reaction events at each angular step of Δcosθ = 0.1. The obtained differential cross sections show slightly forward-peaking structure in the measured momentum regions. The cross sections integrated for -0.7 < cosθ < 1.0 were obtained as 22.5 +- 0.68 (stat.) +- 0.65 (syst.) mb and 15.8 +-0.83(stat.) +- 0.52 (syst.) mb for 470<p_{Σ}(MeV/c)<550 and 550<p_{Σ}(MeV/c)<650, respectively. These results show a drastic improvement compared to past measurements of the hyperon-proton scattering experiments. They will play essential roles in updating the theoretical models of the baryon-baryon interactions.

Recently, we demonstrated that kaonic nuclei can be produced via in-flight $(K^-,N)$ reactions using the low-momentum DC kaon beam at the J-PARC E15 experiment. We observed the simplest kaonic nuclei, $K^-pp$, having a much deeper binding energy than normal nuclei. For further studies, we have proposed a series of experimental programs for the systematic investigation of light kaonic nuclei, from $\bar K N$ ($Λ(1405)$) to $\bar K NNNN$. In the new experiment approved as J-PARC E80, we will measure the $\bar K NNN$ ($A=3$) system as a first step toward a comprehensive study.

Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill (GKP) qubit is a promising ingredient for fault-tolerant quantum computation (FTQC) in optical continuous variables due to its advantage of noise tolerance and scalability. However, one of the main problems in the preparation of the optical GKP qubit is the difficulty in obtaining the nonlinearity. Cross-Kerr interaction is one of the promising candidates for this nonlinearity. There is no existing scheme to use the cross-Kerr interaction to generate the optical GKP qubit for FTQC. In this work, we propose a generation method of the GKP qubit by using a cross-Kerr interaction between a squeezed light and a superposition of Fock states. We numerically show that the GKP qubit with the 10 dB can be generated with a mean fidelities of 99.99 and 99.9% at the success probabilities of 2.7 and 4.8%, respectively. Therefore, our method has potential method to generate the optical GKP qubit with a quality required for FTQC when we obtain the sufficient technologies for the preparation of ancillary Fock states and a cross-Kerr interaction.

In a continuous-variable optical system, the Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill (GKP) qubit is a promising candidate for fault-tolerant quantum computation. To implement non-Clifford operations on GKP qubits, non-Gaussian operations are required. In this context, the implementation of a cubic phase gate by combining nonlinear feedforward with ancillary states has been widely researched. Recently, however, it is pointed out that the cubic phase gate is not the most suitable for non-Clifford operations on GKP qubits. In this work, we show that we can achieve linear optical implementation of non-Clifford operations on GKP qubit with high fidelity by applying the nonlinear feedforward originally developed for the cubic phase gate and using a GKP-encoded ancillary state. Our work shows the versatility of nonlinear feedforward technique important for optical implementation of the fault-tolerant continuous-variable quantum computation.

Quantum non-Gaussian gate is a missing piece to the realization of continuous-variable universal quantum operations in the optical system. In a measurement-based implementation of the cubic phase gate, a lowest-order non-Gaussian gate, non-Gaussian ancillary states that has a property we call nonlinear squeezing are required. This property, however, has never been experimentally verified. In this paper, we generate a superposition between a vacuum state and a single photon state whose nonlinear squeezing are maximized by the optimization of the superposition coefficients. The nonlinear squeezing is observed via real-time quadrature measurements, meaning that the generated states are compatible with the real-time feedforward and are suitable as the ancillary states for the cubic phase gate in time domain. Moreover, by increasing the number of the photons, it is expected that nonlinear squeezing can be further improved. The idea presented here can be readily extended to the higher-order phase gates [P. Marek et al., Phys. Rev. A 97, 022329 (2018)]. As such, this work presents an important step to extend the CV quantum information processing from Gaussian regime to non-Gaussian regime.

This paper considers the application of FPGA-based IIR filtering to increase the usable bandwidth of a piezoelectric transducer used in optical phase locking. We experimentally perform system identification of the interferometer system with the cross-correlation method integrated on the controller hardware. Our model is then used to implement an inverse filter designed to suppress the low frequency resonant modes of the piezo-electric transducer. This filter is realized as an 24th-order IIR filter on the FPGA, while the total input-output delay is kept at 350ns. The combination of the inverse filter and the piezo-electric transducer works as a nearly-flat response position actuator, allowing us to use PI control in order to achieve stability of the closed-loop system with significant improvements over non filtered PI control. Finally, because this controller is completely digital, it is straight forward to reproduce. Our control scheme is suitable for many experiments which require highly accurate control of flexible structures.

Quantum Hall/superconductor junctions have been an attractive topic as the two macroscopically quantum states join at the interface. Despite longstanding efforts, however, experimental understanding of this system has not been settled yet. One of the reasons is that most semiconductors hosting high-mobility two-dimensional electron systems (2DES) usually form Schottky barriers at the metal contacts, preventing efficient proximity between the quantum Hall edge states and Cooper pairs. Only recently have relatively transparent 2DES/superconductor junctions been investigated in graphene. In this study, we propose another material system for investigating 2DES/superconductor junctions, that is ZnO-based heterostrcuture. Due to the ionic nature of ZnO, a Schottky barrier is not effectively formed at the contact with a superconductor MoGe, as evidenced by the appearance of Andreev reflection at low temperatures. With applying magnetic field, while clear quantum Hall effect is observed for ZnO 2DES, conductance across the junction oscillates with the filling factor of the quantum Hall states. We find that Andreev reflection is suppressed in the well developed quantum Hall regimes, which we interpret as a result of equal probabilities of normal and Andreev reflections as a result of multiple Andreev reflection at the 2DES/superconductor interface.

We propose general methodology of deterministic single-mode quantum interaction nonlinearly modifying single quadrature variable of a continuous variable system. The methodology is based on linear coupling of the system to ancillary systems subsequently measured by quadrature detectors. The nonlinear interaction is obtained by using the data from the quadrature detection for dynamical manipulation of the coupling parameters. This measurement-induced methodology enables direct realization of arbitrary nonlinear quadrature interactions without the need to construct them from the lowest-order gates. Such nonlinear interactions are crucial for more practical and efficient manipulation of continuous quadrature variables as well as qubits encoded in continuous variable systems.

No event was observed below the bound threshold, i.e., the mass of ${}^{4}_Λ$H + 2n, in the missing-mass spectrum of the ${}^{6}$Li($π^{-}, K^{+}$)X reaction in the $2^{\circ}$ < $θ_{πK}$ < $20^{\circ}$ angular range. Furthermore, no event was found up to 2.8 MeV/$c^2$ above the bound threshold. We obtained the the double-differential cross section spectra of the ${}^{6}$Li($π^{-}, K^{+}$)X reaction in the angular range of $2^{\circ}$ < $θ_{πK}$ < $14^{\circ}$. An upper limit of 0.56 nb/sr (90% C.L.) was obtained for the production cross section of the ${}^{6}_Λ$H hypernucleus bound state. In addition, not only the bound state region, but also the $Λ$ continuum region and part of the $Σ^{-}$ quasi-free production region of the ${}^{6}$Li($π^{-}, K^{+}$)X reaction, were obtained with high statistics. The present missing-mass spectrum will facilitate the investigation of the $Σ^{-}$-nucleus optical potential for $Σ^{-}$-${}^{5}$He through spectrum shape analysis.

The $φ$-$Λ(1520)$ interference effect in the $γp\to K^+K^-p$ reaction has been measured for the first time in the energy range from 1.673 to 2.173 GeV. The relative phases between $φ$ and $Λ(1520)$ production amplitudes were obtained in the kinematic region where the two resonances overlap. The measurement results support strong constructive interference when $K^+K^-$ pairs are observed at forward angles, but destructive interference for proton emission at forward angles. Furthermore, the observed interference effect does not account for the $\sqrt{s}=2.1$ GeV bump structure in forward differential cross sections for $φ$ photoproduction. This fact suggests possible exotic structures such as a hidden-strangeness pentaquark state, a new Pomeron exchange and rescattering processes via other hyperon states.

To search for an S= -1 di-baryonic state which decays to $Λp$, the $ {\rm{}^3He}(K^-,Λp)n_{missing}$ reaction was studied at 1.0 GeV/$c$. Unobserved neutrons were kinematically identified from the missing mass $M_X$ of the $ {\rm{}^3He}(K^-,Λp)X$ reaction in order to have a large acceptance for the $Λpn$ final state. The observed $Λp n$ events, distributed widely over the kinematically allowed region of the Dalitz plot, establish that the major component comes from a three nucleon absorption process. A concentration of events at a specific neutron kinetic energy was observed in a region of low momentum transfer to the $Λp$. To account for the observed peak structure, the simplest S-wave pole was assumed to exist in the reaction channel, having Breit-Wigner form in energy and with a Gaussian form-factor. A minimum $χ^2$ method was applied to deduce its mass $M_X\ =$ 2355 $ ^{+ 6}_{ - 8}$ (stat.) $ \pm 12$ (syst.) MeV/c$^2$, and decay-width $Γ_X\ = $ 110 $ ^{+ 19}_{ - 17}$ (stat.) $ \pm 27$ (syst.) MeV/c$^2$, respectively. The form factor parameter $Q_X \sim$ 400 MeV/$c$ implies that the range of interaction is about 0.5

In comparison to the corresponding energy spacing in the mirror hypernucleus $^4_Λ$H, the present result clearly indicates the existence of charge symmetry breaking (CSB) in $ΛN$ interaction. It is also found that the CSB effect is large in the $0^+$ ground state but is by one order of magnitude smaller in the $1^+$ excited state, demonstrating that the $ΛN$ CSB interaction has spin dependence.

The antikaon-nucleon interaction close to threshold provides crucial information on the interplay between spontaneous and explicit chiral symmetry breaking in low-energy QCD. In this context the importance of kaonic deuterium X-ray spectroscopy has been well recognized, but no experimental results have yet been obtained due to the difficulty of the measurement. We propose to measure the shift and width of the kaonic deuterium 1s state with an accuracy of 60 eV and 140 eV respectively at J-PARC. These results together with the kaonic hydrogen data (KpX at KEK, DEAR and SIDDHARTA at DAFNE) will then permit the determination of values of both the isospin I=0 and I=1 antikaon-nucleon scattering lengths and will provide the most stringent constraints on the antikaon-nucleon interaction, promising a breakthrough. Refined Monte Carlo studies were performed, including the investigation of background suppression factors for the described setup. These studies have demonstrated the feasibility of determining the shift and width of the kaonic deuterium atom 1s state with the desired accuracy of 60 eV and 140 eV.

Therefore, coincidence of high-momentum ($>$ 250~MeV/$c$) proton(s) in large emission angles ($39^\circ<θ_{lab.}<122^\circ$) was requested to enhance the signal-to-background ratio. A broad enhancement in the proton coincidence spectra are observed around the missing-mass of 2.27 GeV/$c^2$, which corresponds to the $K^-pp$ binding energy of 95 $^{+18}_{-17}$ (stat.) $^{+30}_{-21}$ (syst.) We have measured an inclusive missing-mass spectrum of the $d(π^+, K^+)$ reaction at the pion incident momentum of 1.69 GeV/$c$ at the laboratory scattering angles between 2$^\circ$ and 16$^\circ$ with the missing-mass resolution of 2.7 $\pm$ 0.1 MeV/$c^2$ (FWHM) at the missing mass of 2.27 GeV/$c^{2}$. In this Letter, we first try to understand the spectrum as a simple quasi-free picture based on several known elementary cross sections, considering the neutron/proton Fermi motion in deuteron. While gross spectrum structures are well understood in this picture, we have observed two distinct deviations; one peculiar enhancement at 2.13 GeV/$c^2$ is due to the $ΣN$ cusp, and the other notable feature is a shift of a broad bump structure, mainly originating from hyperon resonance productions of $Λ(1405)$ and $Σ(1385)^{+/0}$, by about 22.4 $\pm$ 0.4 (stat.) $^{+2.7}_{-1.7}$ (syst.) MeV/$c^2$ toward the low-mass side, which is calculated in the kinematics of a proton at rest as the target.

We have searched for a bound state of kaon and pion denoted by $X$. The $X$ was conjectured to explain the so-called $Θ^+$ resonance as a bound state of kaon, pion and nucleon. This model explains almost all properties of the $Θ^+$, however, the model works only if the $K π$ interaction is strongly attractive. It is so strong that it could make a bound state $X$. Here we report a result of the search for the $X$ by using the $K^+ + N \rightarrow X^+ + N$ reaction at P$_K\sim$ 1.2 GeV/c. The $X^+ \rightarrow K^+ γγ$ decay produces $K^+$ in momentum region where other processes cannot fill. We observed signature of the $X^+$ with statistical significance of 2 $σ$. Production cross section of $X$ with respect to that of $π^0$ is 1$\pm$0.5% if we take it as an evidence and 1.5% if we set an upper limit.

A new spectrometer system was designed and constructed at the secondary beam line K1.8BR in the hadron hall of J-PARC to investigate $\bar K N$ interactions and $\bar K$-nuclear bound systems. The spectrometer consists of a high precision beam line spectrometer, a liquid $^3$He/$^4$He/D$_2$ target system, a Cylindrical Detector System that surrounds the target to detect the decay particles from the target region, and a neutron time-of-flight counter array located $\sim$15 m downstream from the target position. Details of the design, construction, and performance of the detector components are described.

No peak structure corresponding to the $Θ^+$ mass was observed. The upper limit of the production cross section averaged over the scattering angle of 2$^{\circ}$ to 15$^{\circ}$ in the laboratory frame was obtained to be 0.26 $μ$b/sr in the mass region of 1.51$-$1.55 GeV/$c^2$.The upper limit of the $Θ^+$ decay width using the effective Lagrangian approach was obtained to be 0.72 MeV/$c^2$ and 3.1 MeV/$c^2$ for $J^P_Θ=1/2^+$ and $J^P_Θ=1/2^-$, respectively.

Abstract:
The LEPS/SPring-8 experiment made a comprehensive measurement of the spin-density matrix elements for $γp \to φp$, $γd \to φp n$ and $γd \to φd$ at forward production angles. A linearly polarized photon beam at $E_γ$=1.6-2.4 GeV was used for the production of $φ$ mesons. The natural-parity Pomeron exchange processes remains dominant nearthreshold. The unnatural-parity processes of pseudoscalar exchange is visible in the production from nucleons but is greatly reduced in the coherent production from deuterons. There is no strong $E_γ$-dependence, but some dependence on momentum-transfer. A small but finite value of the spin-density matrix elements reflecting helicity-nonconserving amplitudes in the $t$-channel is observed.

We report measurements of differential cross sections and decay asymmetries of incoherent $φ$-meson photoproduction from the deuteron at forward angles using linearly polarized photons at \Eg=1.5-2.4 GeV. The nuclear transparency ratio for the deuteron shows a large suppression, and is consistent with the A-dependence of the ratio observed in a previous measurement with nuclear targets. The reduction for the deuteron cannot be adequately explained in term of isospin asymmetry. The present results suggest the need of refining our understanding of the $φ$-N interaction within a nucleus.

Differential cross sections and photon-beam asymmetries for the gamma p -> K+ Lambda(1520) reaction have been measured with linearly polarized photon beams at energies from the threshold to 2.4 GeV at 0.6<cos(theta)<1. A new bump structure was found at W=2.11 GeV in the cross sections. The bump is not well reproduced by theoretical calculations introducing a nucleon resonance with J<=3/2. This result suggests that the bump might be produced by a nucleon resonance possibly with J>=5/2 or by a new reaction process, for example an interference effect with the phi photoproduction having a similar bump structure in the cross sections.

Photoproduction of $Λ$(1520) with liquid hydrogen and deuterium targets was examined at photon energies below 2.4 GeV in the SPring-8 LEPS experiment. For the first time, the differential cross sections were measured at low energies and with a deuterium target. A large asymmetry of the production cross sections from protons and neutrons was observed at backward K$^{+/0}$ angles. This suggests the importance of the contact term, which coexists with t-channel K exchange under gauge invariance. This interpretation was compatible with the differential cross sections, decay asymmetry, and photon beam asymmetry measured in the production from protons at forward K$^+$ angles.
