We study the long-time behavior of scale-invariant solutions of the 2d Euler equation satisfying a discrete symmetry. We show that all scale-invariant solutions with bounded variation on $\mathbb{S}^1$ relax to states that are piece-wise constant with finitely many jumps.
All continuous scale-invariant solutions become singular and homogenize in infinite time. On $\mathbb{R}^2$, this corresponds to generic infinite-time spiral and cusp formation. The main tool in our analysis is the discovery of a monotone quantity that measures the number of particles that are moving away from the origin.
This monotonicity also applies locally to solutions of the 2d Euler equation that are $m$-fold symmetric ($m\geq 4$) and have radial limits at the point of symmetry.
Our results are also applicable to the Euler equation on a large class of surfaces of revolution (like $\mathbb{S}^2$ and $\mathbb{T}^2$). Our analysis then gives generic spiraling of trajectories and infinite-time loss of regularity for globally smooth solutions on any such smooth surface, under a discrete symmetry.

The tech industry has been criticised for designing applications that undermine individuals' autonomy. Recommender systems, in particular, have been identified as a suspected culprit that might exercise unwanted control over peoples' lives. In this article we try to assess the objectives of recommender system research and offer a nuanced discussion of how these objectives can align with users' goals. This discussion employs a qualitative literature survey connecting the dots between relevant research within the fields of psychology, design ethics, interaction design and recommender systems. Finally, we focus on the specific use-case of YouTube's recommender system and propose design changes that will better align with individuals' autonomy. Based on our analysis we offer directions for future research that will help secure rights to digital autonomy in the attention economy.

We investigate Natural Inflation with non-minimal coupling to gravity, characterized either by a quadratic or a periodic term, within the Warm Inflation paradigm during the slow roll stage, in both strong and weak dissipation limits, and show that, in the case of $T$-linearly dependent dissipative term, it can accommodate the spectral index $n_s$ and tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$ observables given by Planck 2018 constraints, albeit with a too small value of the e-folding number to solve the horizon problem, providing thus only a partial solution to Natural Inflation issues. Assuming a $T$-cubically dependent dissipative term can provide a solution to this e-folding number issue.

The intertwining between spin, charge, and lattice degrees of freedom can give rise to unusual macroscopic quantum states, including high-temperature superconductivity and quantum anomalous Hall effects. Recently, a charge density wave (CDW) is observed in the kagome antiferromagnet FeGe, indicative of possible intertwining physics. An outstanding question is that whether magnetic correlation is fundamental for the spontaneous spatial symmetry breaking orders. Here, utilizing elastic and high-resolution inelastic x-ray scattering, we discover a charge dimerization superlattice that coexists with the 2$\times$2$\times$1 CDW in the kagome sublattice. Most interestingly, between the magnetic and CDW transition temperature, the phonon dynamical structure factor shows a giant phonon-energy hardening and a substantial phonon linewidth broadening near the charge-dimerization wavevectors, both signaling the spin-phonon coupling. By first principles calculations, we show that both the static and dynamic spin excitations intertwine with the phonon to drive the spatial symmetry breaking.

We present a study of a singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay $Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0K_S^0$ and a Cabibbo-favored decay $Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0η$ based on 980 $\rm fb^{-1}$ of data collected by the Belle detector, operating at the KEKB energy-asymmetric $e^+e^-$ collider. We measure their branching fractions relative to $Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0$: $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0K_S^0)/\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0)={(1.48 \pm 0.08 \pm 0.04)\times 10^{-2}}$ and $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0η)/\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0)={(2.73\pm 0.06\pm 0.13)\times 10^{-1}}$. Combining with the world average $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0)$, we have the absolute branching fractions: $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0K_S^0) = {(2.35\pm 0.12\pm 0.07 \pm 0.12 )\times 10^{-4}}$ and $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0η) = {(4.35\pm 0.10\pm 0.20 \pm 0.22 )\times 10^{-3}}$. The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, while the third ones arise from the uncertainty on $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0)$. The mode $Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0K_S^0$ is observed for the first time and has a statistical significance of $>\!10σ$. The branching fraction of $Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0η$ has been measured with a threefold improvement in precision over previous results and is found to be consistent with the world average.

The nature of the charge density wave phases in the kagome metal compound AV$_3$Sb$_5$ has raised many questions and their origin is still under debate. Here, we combine diffuse scattering (DS) and inelastic x-ray scattering (IXS) to identify a 3-dimensional (3D) precursor of the charge order with propagation vector (0.5 0 0.5), which condenses into a 3D-CDW through a first order phase transition. The quasi-elastic critical scattering indicates that the dominant contribution to the diffuse precursor is the elastic central peak without phonon softening. However, the inelastic spectra show a small broadening of the Einstein-type phonon mode on approaching the phase transition. Our results point to the situation where the Fermi surface instability at the \textit{L} point is of order-disorder type with a critical growth of quasi-static domains. The results go beyond the classical weak-coupling Peierls transition dynamics and are discussed within models including strong-electron phonon coupling and non-adiabaticity.

In video compression, coding efficiency is improved by reusing pixels from previously decoded frames via motion and residual compensation. We define two levels of hierarchical redundancy in video frames: 1) first-order: redundancy in pixel space, i.e., similarities in pixel values across neighboring frames, which is effectively captured using motion and residual compensation, 2) second-order: redundancy in motion and residual maps due to smooth motion in natural videos. While most of the existing neural video coding literature addresses first-order redundancy, we tackle the problem of capturing second-order redundancy in neural video codecs via predictors. We introduce generic motion and residual predictors that learn to extrapolate from previously decoded data. These predictors are lightweight, and can be employed with most neural video codecs in order to improve their rate-distortion performance. Moreover, while RGB is the dominant colorspace in neural video coding literature, we introduce general modifications for neural video codecs to embrace the YUV420 colorspace and report YUV420 results. Our experiments show that using our predictors with a well-known neural video codec leads to 38% and 34% bitrate savings in RGB and YUV420 colorspaces measured on the UVG dataset.

Research on charge-density-wave (CDW) ordered transition-metal dichalcogenides continues to unravel new states of quantum matter correlated to the intertwined lattice and electronic degrees of freedom. Here, we report an inelastic x-ray scattering investigation of the lattice dynamics of the canonical CDW compound $2H$-TaSe$_2$ complemented by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. Our results rule out the central-peak scenario for the CDW transition in $2H$-TaSe$_2$ and provide evidence for a novel precursor phase above the CDW transition temperature $T_{CDW}$. The phase at temperatures between $T^{*}\,(= 128.7\,,\rm{K})$ and $T_{CDW}\,(= 121.3\,\rm{K})$ is characterized by a fully softened phonon mode and medium-range ordered ($ξ_{corr} = 100\,\rm{\mathring{A}}- 200\,\rm{\mathring{A}})$ static CDW domains. Only $T_{CDW}$ is detectable in our photoemission experiments. Thus, $2H$-TaSe$_2$ exhibits structural before electronic static order and emphasizes the important lattice contribution to CDW transitions.

A measurement of the ratio of these branching fractions is also presented, $\mathcal{R}_{K/π}=\mathcal{B}(\bar{B} \to D^{*+}K^-) /\mathcal{B}( \bar{B} \to D^{*+}π^-) = (8.41 \pm 0.24 \pm 0.13)\times 10^{-2}$, where systematic uncertainties due to the $D^{*+}$ meson reconstruction cancel out. Furthermore, we report a new QCD factorization test based on the measured ratios for $\bar{B} \to D^{*+}h^-$ and $\bar{B} \to D^{*+}\ell^-ν$ decays at squared momentum transfer values equivalent to the mass of the $h = π$ or $K$ hadron. The parameters $|a_1(h)|$ are measured to be $|a_1(π)|= 0.884 \pm 0.004 \pm 0.003 \pm 0.016$ and $|a_1(K)|=0.913 \pm 0.019 \pm 0.008 \pm 0.013$, where the last uncertainties account for all external inputs. These values are approximately $15\%$ lower than those expected from theoretical predictions. Subsequently, flavor $SU(3)$ symmetry is tested by measuring the ratios for pions and kaons, $|a_1(K)|^2/ |a_1(π)|^2=1.066 \pm 0.042 \pm 0.018 \pm 0.023$, as well as for different particle species. The ratio is consistent with unity and therefore no evidence for $SU(3)$ symmetry breaking effects is found at the $5\%$ precision level.

We present the analysis of two-particle angular correlations using coordinate systems defined with the conventional beam axis and the event thrust axis, and propose the latter to be a useful representation for the correlation structure interpretation in the $e^+ e^-$ collision system. The $e^+ e^-$ collisions to hadronic final states at center-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s} = 10.52$ GeV and $10.58$ GeV are recorded by the Belle detector at KEKB. In this paper, results on the first dataset are supplementary to the previous Belle publication arXiv:2201.01694 while the latter one is the first two-particle correlation measurement at a collision energy on the $Υ(4S)$ resonance and sensitive to its decay products. Measurements are reported as a function of the charged-particle multiplicity. Finally, a qualitative understanding of the correlation structure is discussed using a combination of Monte Carlo simulations and experimental data.

We present measurements of the branching fractions for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays $D^+\to K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{0}$ and $D_s^{+}\to K^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{0}$, and the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay $D^{+}\to K^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{0}$, based on 980 ${\rm fb}^{-1}$ of data recorded by the Belle experiment at the KEKB $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. We measure these modes relative to the Cabibbo-favored modes $D^{+}\to K^{-}π^{+}π^{+}π^{0}$ and $D_s^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{0}$. Our results for the ratios of branching fractions are $B(D^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{0})/B(D^{+}\to K^{-}π^{+}π^{+}π^{0}) = (11.32 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.26)\%$, $B(D^{+}\to K^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{0})/B(D^{+}\to K^{-}π^{+}π^{+}π^{0}) = (1.68 \pm 0.11\pm 0.03)\%$, and $B(D_s^{+}\to K^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{0})/B(D_s^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{0}) = (17.13 \pm 0.62 \pm 0.51)\%$, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The second value corresponds to $(5.83\pm 0.42)\times\tan^4θ_C$, where $θ_C$ is the Cabibbo angle; this value is larger than other measured ratios of branching fractions for a doubly Cabibbo-suppressed charm decay to a Cabibbo-favored decay. Multiplying these results by world average values for $B(D^{+}\to K^{-}π^{+}π^{+}π^{0})$ and $B(D_s^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{0})$ yields $B(D^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{0})= (7.08\pm 0.08\pm 0.16\pm 0.20)\times10^{-3}$, $B(D^{+}\to K^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{0})= (1.05\pm 0.07\pm 0.02\pm 0.03)\times10^{-3}$, and $B(D_s^{+}\to K^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{0}) = (9.44\pm 0.34\pm 0.28\pm 0.32)\times10^{-3}$, where the third uncertainty is due to the branching fraction of the normalization mode. The first two results are consistent with, but more precise than, the current world averages. The last result is the first measurement of this branching fraction.

The intricate interplay between novel lattice geometry and spontaneous symmetry-breaking states is at the forefront of contemporary research on quantum materials. Recently, the observation of unconventional charge and pairing density waves in a kagome metal CsV3Sb5 brings out a new showcase for intertwined orders. While electronic instabilities in CsV3Sb5 are widely believed to originate from the V 3d-electrons residing on the 2-dimensional kagome sublattice, the pivotal role of Sb 5p-electrons for 3-dimensional orders is yet to be understood. Here, using resonant tender x-ray scattering and high-pressure X-ray scattering, we report a rare realization of conjoined charge density waves (CDW) in CsV3Sb5. At ambient pressure, we discover a resonant enhancement at Sb L1-edge (2s-5p) at the 2$\times$2$\times$2 CDW wavevectors. The resonance, however, is absent at the 2$\times$2 CDW wavevectors. Applying hydrostatic pressure, we find the CDW transition temperatures to separate, where the 2$\times$2$\times$2 CDW emerges 4 K above the 2$\times$2 CDW at 1GPa. Our results establish the coexistence of the 2$\times$2 CDW and the 5p-electron assisted 2$\times$2$\times$2 CDW in CsV3Sb5. The evolution of the conjoined CDWs under pressure suggests the joint importance of electronic and phononic fluctuations for the double dome superconductivity.

The measurement of two-particle angular correlation functions in high-multiplicity $e^+e^-$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=10.52$ GeV is reported. In this study, the $89.5~{\text{fb}}^{-1}$ of hadronic $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected by the Belle detector at KEKB are used. Two-particle angular correlation functions are measured in the full relative azimuthal angle ($Δφ$) and three units of pseudorapidity ($Δη$), defined by either the electron beam axis or the event-shape thrust axis, and are studied as a function of charged-particle multiplicity. The measurement in the thrust axis analysis, with mostly outgoing quark pairs determining the reference axis, is sensitive to the region of additional soft gluon emissions. No significant anisotropic collective behavior is observed with either coordinate analyses. Near-side jet correlations appear to be absent in the thrust axis analysis. The measurements are compared to predictions from various event generators and are expected to provide new constraints to the phenomenological models in the low-energy regime.

No significant $A^0$ signals in the mass range from the $τ^+τ^-$ or $μ^+μ^-$ threshold to 9.2 GeV/$c^2$ are observed. We set the upper limits at 90\% credibility level (C.L.) on the product branching fractions for $Υ(1S)\to γA^0$ and $A^0\to τ^+τ^-$ varying from $3.8\times10^{-6}$ to $1.5\times10^{-4}$. For $A^0\to μ^+μ^-$, the upper limits on the product branching fractions for $Υ(1S)\to γA^0$ and $A^0\to μ^+μ^-$ are at the same level as the world average limits, and vary from $3.1\times10^{-7}$ to $1.6\times10^{-5}$. Magnetoelastic interaction couples spin and lattice degrees of freedom and plays a key role in thermal transport properties of magnetic insulators. In the Kitaev quantum spin liquid, the low energy excitations are charge neutral Majorana fermions, which transform the magnetoelasctic interaction into Majorana-phonon scattering. Motivated by anomalous thermal properties of the Kitaev quantum spin liquid candidate RuCl$_3$, in this letter, we combine meV resolution inelastic x-ray scattering and theoretical calculation to examine the Majorana-phonon scattering. We analytically derive the velocity-dependent Majorana-phonon scattering and find a divergence when the acoustic phonons and the itinerant Majorana fermions have the same velocity. Based on the experimentally determined acoustic phonon velocity in RuCl$_3$, we estimate the range in the Kitaev interaction for which divergent Majorana-phonon scattering can happen. Our result opens a new avenue to uncover fractionalized quasiparticles in the Kitaev quantum spin liquid and emphasizes the critical role of lattice excitations in RuCl$_3$.

The branching fractions obtained and direct $CP$ asymmetries are $\mathcal{B}(B^{0}\to \bar{D}^{0}π^{0}) = [2.70 \pm 0.06~ \text{(stat.)} \pm 0.10~ \text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-4}$, $\mathcal{B}(B^{+}\to \bar{D}^{0}π^{+}) = [4.53 \pm 0.02~ \text{(stat.)} \pm 0.15~ \text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-3}$, $ {\cal A}_{CP}(B^{0}\to \bar{D}^{0}π^{0}) = [+0.42 \pm 2.05~ \text{(stat.)} \pm 1.22~ \text{(syst.)}]\%$, and $ {\cal A}_{CP}(B^{+}\to \bar{D}^{0}π^{+}) = [+0.19 \pm 0.36~ \text{(stat.)} \pm 0.57~ \text{(syst.)}]\%$. The measurements of $\mathcal{B}$ are the most precise to date and are in good agreement with previous results, as is the measurement of ${\cal A}_{CP}(B^{+}\to \bar{D}^{0}π^{+})$. The measurement of ${\cal A}_{CP}$ for $B^{0}\to \bar{D}^{0}π^{0}$ is the first for this mode, and the value is consistent with Standard Model expectations.

Taking the decay $Ξ_c^0 \to Ξ^- \pip$ as the normalization mode, we measure the branching fraction ratio ${\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to ΛK_S^0)/{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Ξ^- π^+) = 0.229\pm0.008\pm0.012$ with improved precision, and measure the branching fraction ratios ${\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^0 K_S^0)/{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Ξ^- π^+) = 0.038\pm0.006\pm0.004$ and ${\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^+ K^-)/{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Ξ^- π^+) = 0.123\pm0.007\pm0.010$ for the first time. Taking into account the branching fraction of the normalization mode, the absolute branching fractions are determined to be ${\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to ΛK_S^0) = (3.27\pm0.11\pm0.17\pm0.73) \times 10^{-3}$, ${\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^0 K_S^0) = (0.54\pm 0.09\pm 0.06\pm 0.12) \times 10^{-3}$, and ${\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^+ K^-) = (1.76\pm 0.10\pm0.14\pm 0.39) \times 10^{-3}$. The first and second uncertainties above are statistical and systematic, respectively, while the third ones arise from the uncertainty of the branching fraction of $Ξ_c^0 \to Ξ^- π^+$.

Policy Planning have the potential to contribute to the strategic development and economic diversification of develo** countries even without considerable structural changes. In this study, we analyzed a set of human-oriented dimensions aimed at improving energy policies related to the building sector in Qatar. Considering the high percentage of expatriate and migrant communities with different financial and cultural backgrounds and behavioral patterns compared with local communities in the GCC Union, it is required to investigate human dimensions to propose adequate energy policies. This study explored the correlations of socioeconomic, behavioral, and demographic dimensions to determine the main factors behind discrepancies in energy use, responsibilities, motivations, habits, and overall well-being. The sample included 2,200 people in Qatar, and it was clustered into two consumer categories: high and low. In particular, the study focused on exploring human indoor comfort perception dependencies with building features. Financial drivers, such as demand programs and energy subsidies, were explored in relation to behavioral patterns. Subsequently, the data analysis resulted in implications for energy policies regarding interventions, social well-being, and awareness. Machine learning methods were used to perform a feature importance analysis to determine the main factors of human behavior. The findings of this study demonstrated how human factors impact comfort perception in residential and work environments, norms, habits, self-responsibility, consequence awareness, and consumption. The study has important implications for develo** targeted strategies aimed at improving the efficacy of energy policies and sustainability performance indicators.

Elucidating the symmetry of intertwined orders in exotic superconductors is at the quantum frontier. Recent surface sensitive studies of the topological kagome superconductor CsV$_3$Sb$_5$ discovered a cascade 4a$_0$ superlattice below the charge density wave (CDW) ordering temperature, which can be related to the pair density modulations in the superconducting state. If the 4a$_0$ phase is a bulk and intrinsic property of the kagome lattice, this would form a striking analogy to the stripe order and pair density wave discovered in the cuprate high-temperature superconductors, and the cascade ordering found in twisted bilayer graphene. High-resolution X-ray diffraction has recently been established as an ultra-sensitive probe for bulk translational symmetry-breaking orders, even for short-range orders at the diffusive limit. Here, combining high-resolution X-ray diffraction, scanning tunneling microscopy and scanning transmission electron microscopy, we demonstrate that the 4a$_0$ superstructure emerges uniquely on the surface and hence exclude the 4a$_0$ phase as the origin of any bulk transport or spectroscopic anomaly. Crucially, we show that our detected 2$\times$2$\times$2 CDW order breaks the bulk rotational symmetry to C2, which can be the driver for the bulk nematic orders and nematic surface superlattices including the 4a$_0$ phase. Our high-resolution data impose decisive spatial symmetry constraints on emergent electronic orders in the kagome superconductor CsV$_3$Sb$_5$.

Phonon chirality has attracted intensive attention since it breaks the traditional cognition that phonons are linear propagating bosons. This new quasiparticle property has been extensively studied theoretically and experimentally. However, characterization of the phonon chirality throughout the full Brillouin zone is still not possible due to the lack of available experimental tools. In this work, phonon dispersion and chirality of tungsten carbide were investigated by millielectronvolt energy-resolution inelastic X-ray scattering. The atomistic calculation indicates that in-plane longitudinal and transverse acoustic phonons near K and K$^\prime$ points are circularly polarized due to the broken inversion symmetry. Anomalous inelastic X-ray scattering by these circularly polarized phonons was observed and attributed to their chirality. Our results show that inelastic X-ray scattering can be utilized to characterize phonon chirality in materials and suggest that a revision to the phonon scattering function is necessary.

In two-dimensional materials, structure difference induces the difference in phonon dispersions, leading to the anisotropy of in-plane thermal transport. Here, we report an exceptional case in layered PdSe2, where the bonding, force constants, and lattice constants are nearly-equal along the in-plane crystallographic axis directions. The phonon dispersions show significant differences between the Gamma-X and Gamma-Y directions, leading to the anisotropy of in-plane thermal conductivity with a ratio up to 1.8. Such anisotropy is not only unexpected in equilaterally structured (in-plane) materials but also comparable to the record in the non-equilaterally structured material reported to date. By combining inelastic X-ray scattering and first-principles calculations, we attribute such anisotropy to the low-energy phonons along Gamma-X, in particular, their lower group velocities and "avoided-crossing" behavior. The different bucking structures between a- (zigzag-type) and b-axis (flat-type) are mainly responsible for the unique phonon dynamics properties of PdSe2. The present results illustrate the unusual thermal conduction mechanism of the equilaterally structured materials and provide valuable insights on thermal management in electronic devices.

Interlayer van der Waals (vdW) coupling is generic in two-dimensional materials such as graphene and transition metal dichalcogenides, which can induce very low-energy phonon modes. Using high-resolution inelastic hard x-ray scattering, we uncover the ultra-low energy phonon mode along the Cu-O bond direction in the high-$T_c$ cuprate (Bi,Pb)$_2$(Sr,La)$_2$CuO$_{6+δ}$ (Bi2201). This mode is independent of temperature, while its intensity decreases with do** in accordance with an increasing c-axis lattice parameter. We compare the experimental results to first-principles density functional theory simulations and identify the observed mode as a van der Waals phonon, which arises from the shear motion of the adjacent Bi-O layers. This shows that Bi-based cuprate has similar vibrational properties as graphene and transition metal dichalcogenides, which can be exploited to engineer novel heterostructures.

Understanding lattice dynamics is crucial for effective thermal management in high-power electronic devices because phonons dominate thermal transport in most semiconductors. This study utilizes complementary inelastic X-ray and neutron scattering techniques and reports the temperature-dependent phonon dynamics of alpha-GaN, one of the most important third-generation power semiconductors. A prominent Matryoshka phonon dispersion is discovered with the scattering tools and confirmed by the first-principles calculations. Such Matryoshka twinning throughout the three-dimension reciprocal space is demonstrated to amplify the anharmonicity of the related phonon modes through creating abundant three-phonon scattering channels and cutting the phonon lifetime of affected modes by more than 50%. Such phonon topology effectively contributes to the reduction of the in-plane thermal transport, thus the anisotropic thermal conductivity of alpha-GaN. The results not only have significant implications for engineering the thermal performance and other phonon-related properties of alpha-GaN, but also offer valuable insights on the role of anomalous phonon topology in thermal transport of other technically important semiconductors.

Kagom${é}$ lattice is a fertile platform for topological and intertwined electronic excitations. Recently, experimental evidence of an unconventional charge density wave (CDW) is observed in a Z2 kagom${é}$ metal AV$_{3}$Sb$_{5}$ (A= K, Cs, Rb). This observation triggers wide interests on the interplay between frustrated crystal structure and Fermi surface instabilities. Here we analyze the lattice effect and its impact on CDW in AV$_{3}$Sb$_{5}$. Based on published experimental data, we show that the CDW induced structural distortions is consistent with the theoretically predicted inverse star-of-David pattern, which preserves the $D_{6h}$ symmetry in the kagom${é}$ plane but breaks the sixfold rotational symmetry of the crystal due to the phase shift between kagom${é}$ layers. The coupling between the lattice and electronic degrees of freedom yields a weak first order structural transition without continuous change of lattice dynamics. Our result emphasizes the fundamental role of lattice geometry in proper understanding of unconventional electronic orders in AV$_{3}$Sb$_{5}$.

In this paper, the deployment of federated learning (FL) is investigated in an energy harvesting wireless network in which the base station (BS) employs massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) to serve a set of users powered by independent energy harvesting sources. Since a certain number of users may not be able to participate in FL due to the interference and energy constraints, a joint energy management and user scheduling problem in FL over wireless systems is formulated. This problem is formulated as an optimization problem whose goal is to minimize the FL training loss via optimizing user scheduling. To find how the factors such as transmit power and number of scheduled users affect the training loss, the convergence rate of the FL algorithm is first analyzed. Given this analytical result, the user scheduling and energy management optimization problem can be decomposed, simplified, and solved. Further, the system model is extended by considering multiple BSs. Hence, a joint user association and scheduling problem in FL over wireless systems is studied. The optimal user association problem is solved using the branch-and-bound technique. Simulation results show that the proposed user scheduling and user association algorithm can reduce training loss compared to a standard FL algorithm.

We utilized high-energy-resolution resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) at both the Ta and Ni $L_3$-edges to map out element-specific particle-hole excitations in Ta$_2$NiSe$_5$ across the phase transition. Our results reveal a momentum dependent gap-like feature in the low energy spectrum, which agrees well with the band gap in element-specific joint density of states calculations based on ab initio estimates of the electronic structure in both the low temperature monoclinic and the high temperature orthorhombic structure. Below $T_c$, the RIXS energy-momentum map shows a minimal gap at the Brillouin zone center ($\sim$ 0.16 eV), confirming that Ta$_2$NiSe$_5$ possesses a direct band gap in its low temperature ground state. However, inside the gap, no signature of anticipated collective modes with an energy scale comparable to the gap size can be identified. Upon increasing the temperature to above $T_c$, whereas the gap at the zone center closes, the RIXS map at finite momenta still possesses the gross features of the low temperature map, suggesting a substantial mixing between the Ta and Ni orbits in the conduction and valence bands, which does not change substantially across the phase transition. Our experimental observations and comparison to the theoretical calculations lend further support that the phase transition and the corresponding gap opening in Ta$_2$NiSe$_5$ is largely structural by nature with possible minor contribution from the putative exciton condensate.

The color-suppressed decay $D^{0}\toφη$ is observed for the first time, with very high significance. The results for the $CP$ asymmetries are \begin{eqnarray} A_{CP}(D^{0}\toπ^{+}π^{-}η) & = & [0.9\pm 1.2\,({\rm stat})\pm 0.5\,({\rm syst})]\%\,, \nonumber \\ A_{CP}(D^{0}\to K^{+}K^{-}η) & = & [-1.4\pm 3.3\,({\rm stat})\pm 1.1\,({\rm syst})]\%\,, \nonumber \\ A_{CP}(D^{0}\toφη)&= & [-1.9\pm 4.4\,({\rm stat})\pm 0.6\,({\rm syst})]\%\,. \nonumber \end{eqnarray} The results for $D^{0}\toπ^{+}π^{-}η$ are a significant improvement over previous results. The branching fraction and $A_{CP}$ results for $D^{0}\to K^{+}K^{-}η$, and the $A_{CP}$ result for $D^{0}\toφη$, are the first such measurements. No evidence for $CP$ violation is found in any of these decays.

Two structures are seen in the invariant mass distribution of $γψ(2S)$: one at $M_{R_1} = 3922.4\pm 6.5 \pm 2.0~{\rm MeV}/c^2$ with a width of $Γ_{R_1} = 22\pm 17\pm 4~{\rm MeV}$, and another at $M_{R_2} = 4014.3\pm 4.0 \pm 1.5~{\rm MeV}/c^2$ with a width of $Γ_{R_2} = 4\pm 11 \pm 6~{\rm MeV}$; the signals are parametrized with the incoherent sum of two Breit-Wigner functions. The first structure is consistent with the $X(3915)$ or the $χ_{c2}(3930)$, and the local statistical significance is determined to be $3.1σ$ with the systematic uncertainties included. The second matches none of the known charmonium or charmoniumlike states, and its global significance is determined to be $2.8σ$ including the look-elsewhere effect. The production rates are $Γ_{γγ}{\cal B}(R_1\toγψ(2S)) = 9.8\pm 3.6\pm 1.2~{\rm eV}$ assuming $(J^{PC}, |λ|) =(0^{++}, 0)$ or $2.0\pm 0.7\pm 0.2~{\rm eV}$ with $(2^{++}, 2)$ for the first structure and $Γ_{γγ}{\cal B}(R_2\toγψ(2S)) = 6.2\pm 2.2\pm 0.8~{\rm eV}$ with $(0^{++}, 0)$ or $1.2\pm 0.4\pm 0.2~{\rm eV}$ with $(2^{++}, 2)$ for the second one.
