The unlicensed spectrum is recently considered one of the defining solutions to meet the steadily growing traffic demand. This, in turn, has led to the enhancement for LTE in Release-13 to enable Licensed-Assisted Access (LAA) operations. The design of the medium access control (MAC) protocol for the LAA system to harmonically coexist with the incumbent WLAN system operating in an unlicensed band is critical and challenging. In this paper, we consider an Integrated Access and Backhaul (IAB) system coexisting with a Wi-Fi network operating at millimeter-wave (mmWave) unlicensed spectrum, for which a listen-before-talk-based (LBT) based medium access mechanism is carefully designed. Additionally, we have considered an in-band system that supports both access and backhaul in a single node where the small-cell or the IAB nodes compete with the WiGig for medium access. We present comprehensive experimental results and give design insights based on the simulation results.

Millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequency bands offer a new frontier for next-generation wireless networks, popularly known as 5G, to enable multi-gigabit communication; however, the availability and reliability of mmWave signals are significantly limited due to its unfavorable propagation characteristics. Thus, mmWave networks rely on directional narrow-beam transmissions to overcome severe path-loss. To mitigate the impact of transmission-reception directionality and provide uninterrupted network services, ensuring the availability of mmWave transmission links is important. In this paper, we proposed a new flexible network architecture to provide efficient resource coordination among serving basestations during user mobility. The key idea of this holistic architecture is to exploit the software-defined networking (SDN) technology with mmWave communication to provide a flexible and resilient network architecture. Besides, this paper presents an efficient and seamless uncoordinated network operation to support reliable communication in highly-dynamic environments characterized by high density and mobility of wireless devices. To warrant high-reliability and guard against the potential radio link failure, we introduce a new transmission framework to ensure that there is at least one basestation is connected to the UE at all times. We validate the proposed transmission scheme through simulations.

Internet of Things is one of the most promising technology of the fifth-generation (5G) mobile broadband systems. Data-driven wireless services of 5G systems require unprecedented capacity and availability. The millimeter-wave based wireless communication technologies are expected to play an essential role in future 5G systems. In this article, we describe the three broad categories of fifth-generation services, viz., enhanced mobile broadband, ultra-reliable and low-latency communications, and massive machine-type communications. Furthermore, we introduce the potential issues of consumer devices under a unifying 5G framework. We provide the state-of-the-art overview with an emphasis on technical challenges when applying millimeter-wave (mmWave) technology to support the massive Internet of Things applications. Our discussion highlights the challenges and solutions, particularly for communication/computation requirements in consumer devices under the millimeter-wave 5G framework.

Therefore, prolonging the network lifetime is an important optimization goal in this aspect. In this paper, we propose a new Energy-efficient Datacentric RoUtinG protocol called DRUG. In this paper, we propose an adaptive Data centric approach to find an optimal routing path from source to sink when the sensor nodes are deployed randomly deployed in a restricted service area with single sink. Using the NS-2 Simulator, we compare the performance of DRUG with that of the FLOODING and SPIN protocol.

The planet Earth has hundreds of impact events, with some occurrences causing both in terms of human casualty as well as economic losses. Such attitudes of earth pushed the frontiers to develop innovative monitoring strategies for the earth system. To make that real, although, will require coherent and real-time data by observing the earth behavior contiguously. Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) appears to be the best suitable infrastructure to sense environmental parameters of our interests. In this event of earth observation, another important issue is the monitoring system with high level of precision. There are different types of sensors to measure the behavioral aspects of earth. The sensors integrated with WSN, provide an accurate and contiguous data for analysis and interpretation. This paper briefly addresses earth observation and areas of critical importance to people and society. A case study has also been carried out for disaster like Landslide in the North Eastern region of India. Application software has been developed for the said study for online data acquisition and analysis with pre-disaster early warning system. The system monitors the changing geotechnical condition of this region using various geo-technical sensors like Rain gauge, In-place Inclinometer, Tilt-meter, Piezo-meter and Crack meter. This paper also touches upon the aspects of data transmission over Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) / General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) to a remote data center.

The wide spread of mobiles as handheld devices leads to various innovative applications that makes use of their ever increasing presence in our daily life. One such application is location tracking and monitoring. This paper proposes a prototype model for location tracking using Geographical Positioning System (GPS) and Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) technology. The system displays the object moving path on the monitor and the same information can also be communicated to the user cell phone, on demand of the user by asking the specific information via SMS. This system is very useful for car theft situations, for adolescent drivers being watched and monitored by parents. The result shows that the object is being tracked with a minimal tracking error.

In this paper we have studied downlink packet scheduling algorithms proposed for LTE cellular networks. The study emphasize on three most promising scheduling algorithms such as: FLS, EXP rule and LOG rule. The performance of these three algorithms is conducted over video traffic in a vehicular environment using LTE-Sim simulator. The simulation was setup with varying number of users from 10 - 60 in fixed bounded regions of 1 km radius. The main goal this study is to provide results that will help in the design process of packet scheduler for LTE cellular networks, aiming to get better overall performance users. Simulation results show that, the FLS scheme outperforms in terms of average system throughput, average packet delay, PLR; and with a satisfactory level of fairness index.
