This research proposes a blockchain-based data visualization framework integrated with VR to get manufacturing insights. This framework is implemented at the testbed of the Future Factories Lab at the University of South Carolina. The proposed system aims to enhance understanding, analysis, and decision-making processes by immersing users in a VR environment where complex manufacturing data stored using blockchain is translated into intuitive and interactive representations. The project focuses on two main components: blockchain and VR. Hyperledger Fabric is employed to establish a blockchain network, recording data from the Future Factories testbed. This system captures information from various sources, such as potentiometers on robot grippers to measure grip positioning, load cells to gauge pressure, emergency stop buttons, temperature, speed, and vibration sensors on the conveyors. Whenever predefined conditions are met, pertinent data, including sensor ID, timestamp, value, cause, and importance, is securely recorded in the blockchain, signaling the occurrence of a defect within the cell. Data retrieved from the blockchain system is accessed through 'GET' API requests. A VR application is developed using a cross-platform Unity game engine to visualize the data retrieved from the blockchain database. Meta Quest 3 is used as the targeted Head Mounted VR device. The VR application has two C# scripts: one script to query blockchain data using 'GET' API calls and another script converts the JSON object to text data to visualize in the VR system. The proposed system leverages blockchain technology and VR visualization to deliver immersive, actionable insights using secure data transmission. By embracing the proposed framework, manufacturers can unlock new potential for efficiency, sustainability, and resilience in today's increasingly complex and interconnected manufacturing workplace.

In this paper, we proposed an IoT-enabled stability chamber for the pharmaceutical industry. We developed four stability chambers by using the existing utilities of a manufacturing facility. The state-of-the-art automatic PID controlling system of Siemens S7-1200 PLC was used to control each chamber. PC-based Siemens WinCC Runtime Advanced visualization platform was used to visualize the data of the chamber which is FDA 21 CFR Part 11 Compliant. Additionally, an Internet of Things-based (IoT-based) application was also developed to monitor the sensor's data remotely using any client application.

We present the largest optical photometry compilation of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) with redshifts ($z$). We include 64813 observations of 535 events (including upper limits) from 28 February 1997 up to 18 August 2023. We also present a user-friendly web tool \textit{grbLC} which allows users the visualization of photometry, coordinates, redshift, host galaxy extinction, and spectral indices for each event in our database. Furthermore, we have added a Gamma Ray Coordinate Network (GCN) scraper that can be used to collect data by gathering magnitudes from the GCNs. The web tool also includes a package for uniformly investigating colour evolution. We compute the optical spectral indices for 138 GRBs for which we have at least 4 filters at the same epoch in our sample and craft a procedure to distinguish between GRBs with and without colour evolution. By providing a uniform format and repository for the optical catalogue, this web-based archive is the first step towards unifying several community efforts to gather the photometric information for all GRBs with known redshifts. This catalogue will enable population studies by providing light curves (LCs) with better coverage since we have gathered data from different ground-based locations. Consequently, these LCs can be used to train future LC reconstructions for an extended inference of the redshift. The data gathering also allows us to fill some of the orbital gaps from Swift in crucial points of the LCs, e.g., at the end of the plateau emission or where a jet break is identified.

The proposed solution integrates secure QR code generation and encrypted data transmission to establish a comprehensive anti-counterfeit ecosystem. The protected QR codes encapsulate product information that cannot be identified using traditional QR code scanners which protect the information against replication and tampering. Two industry-grade datasets are presented in this paper that were collected at the Future Factories Lab at the University of South Carolina on December 11th and 12th of 2023. These datasets are generated by a manufacturing assembly line that utilizes industrial standards with respect to actuators, control mechanisms, and transducers. The two datasets were both generated simultaneously by operating the assembly line for 30 consecutive hours (with minor filtering) and collecting data from sensors equipped throughout the system. During operation, defects were also introduced into the assembly operation by manually removing parts needed for the final assembly. The datasets generated include a time series analog dataset and the other is a time series multi-modal dataset which includes images of the system alongside the analog data. These datasets were generated with the objective of providing tools to further the research towards enhancing intelligence in manufacturing. Real manufacturing datasets can be scarce let alone datasets with anomalies or defects. As such these datasets hope to address this gap and provide researchers with a foundation to build and train Artificial Intelligence models applicable for the manufacturing industry. Finally, these datasets are the first iteration of published data from the future Factories lab and can be further adjusted to fit more researchers needs moving forward.

Automated decision making algorithms are expected to play a key role in management and orchestration of network slices in 5G and beyond networks. State-of-the-art algorithms for automated orchestration and management tend to rely on data-driven methods which require a timely and accurate view of the network. Accurately monitoring an end-to-end (E2E) network slice requires a scalable monitoring architecture that facilitates collection and correlation of data from various network segments comprising the slice. The state-of-the-art on 5G monitoring mostly focuses on scalability, falling short in providing explicit support for network slicing and computing network slice key performance indicators (KPIs). To fill this gap, in this paper, we present MonArch, a scalable monitoring architecture for 5G, which focuses on network slice monitoring, slice KPI computation, and an application programming interface (API) for specifying slice monitoring requests. We validate the proposed architecture by implementing MonArch on a 5G testbed, and demonstrate its capability to compute a network slice KPI (e.g., slice throughput). Our evaluations show that MonArch does not significantly increase data ingestion time when scaling the number of slices and that a 5-second monitoring interval offers a good balance between monitoring overhead and accuracy.

Under a changing driving environment, a Connected Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) platoon relies strongly on the acquisition of accurate traffic information from neighboring vehicles as well as reliable commands from a centralized supervisory controller through the communication network. Even though such modalities are imperative to ensure the safe and efficient driving performance of CAVs, they led to multiple security challenges. Thus, a cyberattack on this network can corrupt vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication, which can lead to unsafe or undesired driving scenarios. Hence, in this paper, we propose a unified V2V and V2I cyberattack detection scheme along with a V2I isolation scheme for CAVs under changing driving conditions. The proposed scheme is constructed using a bank of residual generators with Lyapunov function-based performance guarantees, such as disturbance-to-state stability, robustness, and sensitivity. Finally, we showcase the efficacy of our proposed algorithm through two simulation studies, namely under highway driving and urban driving. The results show that the proposed scheme can enhance the cybersecurity of CAVs by detecting and isolating cyberattacks on CAV platoons.

This letter reports a highly scaled 90 nm gate length beta-Ga2O3 T-gate MOSFET with no current collapse and record power gain cut off frequency (fMAX). The epitaxial stack of 60 nm thin channel MOSFET was grown by Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) and highly doped (n++) contact regrowth was carried out by Metal Organic Chemical Vapour Deposition (MOCVD) in the source/drain region. Maximum on current (IDS, MAX) of 160 mA/mm and transconductance (gm) around 36 mS/mm was measured at VDS= 10 V for LSD= 1.5 micrometer channel length. Transconductance is limited by higher channel sheet resistance (Rsheet). We observed no current collapse for both drain and gate lag measurement even at higher VDG,Q quiescent bias points. This is the first report of Ga2O3 FET showing no current collapse without any external passivation. Breakdown voltage around 125 V was reported for LGD= 1.2 micrometer. We extracted 27 GHz current gain cut off frequency (fT) and 55 GHz fMAX for 20 V drain bias. fMAX value mentioned here is the highest for Ga2O3 and the first demonstration of 55 GHz operation. fT. VBR product of 3.375 THz.V has been calculated which is comparable with state-of-art GaN HEMT. This letter suggests that Ga2O3 can be a suitable candidate for X-band application.

Current blocking layers (CBL) using implanted deep acceptors has been used to demonstrate vertical devices. This paper presents the first demonstration of in situ Mg-doped beta-Ga2O3 CBLs grown using metalorganic chemical vapor deposition. Device structures were designed with in-situ Mg doped layers with varied targeted Mg do** concentrations, which were calibrated by quantitative secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS). The effectiveness of the CBL is characterized using temperature dependent current-voltage measurements using n-Mg-doped-n structures, providing crucial insight into the underlying mechanisms. To further validate the experimental results, a TCAD simulation is performed and the electrically active effective do** is found to be dependent on the Mg-do** density, offering a new perspective on the optimization of CBL performance. Breakdown measurements show a 3.4 MV/cm field strength. This study represents a significant step forward in the development of Ga2O3-based devices and paves the way for future advancements in this exciting field.

This White Paper presents the community inputs and scientific conclusions from the Hot and Cold QCD Town Meeting that took place September 23-25, 2022 at MIT, as part of the Nuclear Science Advisory Committee (NSAC) 2023 Long Range Planning process. A total of 424 physicists registered for the meeting. The meeting highlighted progress in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) nuclear physics since the 2015 LRP (LRP15) and identified key questions and plausible paths to obtaining answers to those questions, defining priorities for our research over the coming decade. In defining the priority of outstanding physics opportunities for the future, both prospects for the short (~ 5 years) and longer term (5-10 years and beyond) are identified together with the facilities, personnel and other resources needed to maximize the discovery potential and maintain United States leadership in QCD physics worldwide. This White Paper is organized as follows: In the Executive Summary, we detail the Recommendations and Initiatives that were presented and discussed at the Town Meeting, and their supporting rationales. Section 2 highlights major progress and accomplishments of the past seven years. It is followed, in Section 3, by an overview of the physics opportunities for the immediate future, and in relation with the next QCD frontier: the EIC. Section 4 provides an overview of the physics motivations and goals associated with the EIC. Section 5 is devoted to the workforce development and support of diversity, equity and inclusion. This is followed by a dedicated section on computing in Section 6. Section 7 describes the national need for nuclear data science and the relevance to QCD research.

If $α$ is separating, then we call it as separating filling pair. In this article, we find a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a separating filling pair on $S_g$ with exactly two complementary disks. We study the combinatorics of the action of the map** class group $\M$ on the set of such filling pairs. Furthermore, we construct a Morse function $\mathcal{F}_g$ on the moduli space $\mathcal{M}_g$ which, for a given hyperbolic surface $X$, outputs the length of shortest such filling pair with respect to the metric in $X$. We show that the cardinality of the set of global minima of the function $\mathcal{F}_g$ is the same as the number of $\M$-orbits of such filling pairs.

The cubic nonlinear Helmholtz equation with third and fourth order dispersion and non-Kerr nonlinearity like the self steepening and the self frequency shift is considered. This model describes nonparaxial ultrashort pulse propagation in an optical medium in the presence of spatial dispersion originating from the failure of slowly varying envelope approximation. We show that this system admits periodic (elliptic) solitary waves with dipole structure within a period and also transition from dipole to quadrupole structure within a period depending on the value of the modulus parameter of Jacobi elliptic function. The parametric conditions to be satisfied for the existence of these solutions are given. The effect of the nonparaxial parameter on physical quantities like amplitude, pulse-width and speed of the solitary waves are examined. It is found that by adjusting the nonparaxial parameter, the speed of solitary waves can be decelerated. The stability and robustness of the solitary waves are discussed numerically.

We investigate the existence and stability properties of the chirped gray and anti-dark solitary waves within the framework of coupled cubic nonlinear Helmholtz equation in the presence of self steepening and self frequency shift. We show that for a particular combination of the self steepening and the self frequency shift, there is not only chir** but also chirp reversal. Specifically, the associated nontrivial phase has two intensity dependent terms, one varies as the reciprocal of the intensity while the other, which depends on non-Kerr nonlinearities, is directly proportional to the intensity. With the ever increasing demand for screening millions of prospective "novel coronavirus" or COVID-19 cases, and due to the emergence of high false negatives in the commonly used PCR tests, the necessity for probing an alternative simple screening mechanism of COVID-19 using radiological images (like chest X-Rays) assumes importance. In this scenario, machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) offer fast, automated, effective strategies to detect abnormalities and extract key features of the altered lung parenchyma, which may be related to specific signatures of the COVID-19 virus. However, the available COVID-19 datasets are inadequate to train deep neural networks. Therefore, we propose a new concept called domain extension transfer learning (DETL). We employ DETL, with pre-trained deep convolutional neural network, on a related large chest X-Ray dataset that is tuned for classifying between four classes \textit{viz.} $normal$, $pneumonia$, $other\_disease$, and $Covid-19$. A 5-fold cross validation is performed to estimate the feasibility of using chest X-Rays to diagnose COVID-19. The initial results show promise, with the possibility of replication on bigger and more diverse data sets. The overall accuracy was measured as $90.13\% \pm 0.14$. In order to get an idea about the COVID-19 detection transparency, we employed the concept of Gradient Class Activation Map (Grad-CAM) for detecting the regions where the model paid more attention during the classification. This was found to strongly correlate with clinical findings, as validated by experts.

Abstract:
This position paper looks into the formation of language and shows ties between structural properties of the words in the English language and their polysemy. Using Ollivier-Ricci curvature over a large graph of synonyms to estimate polysemy it shows empirically that the words that arguably are easier to pronounce also tend to have multiple meanings.

In this work, we have proposed several enhancements to improve the performance of any facial emotion recognition (FER) system. We believe that the changes in the positions of the fiducial points and the intensities capture the crucial information regarding the emotion of a face image. We propose the use of the gradient and the Laplacian of the input image together with the original input into a convolutional neural network (CNN). These modifications help the network learn additional information from the gradient and Laplacian of the images. However, the plain CNN is not able to extract this information from the raw images. We have performed a number of experiments on two well known datasets KDEF and FERplus. Our approach enhances the already high performance of state-of-the-art FER systems by 3 to 5%.

With the recent advancement in the deep learning technologies such as CNNs and GANs, there is significant improvement in the quality of the images reconstructed by deep learning based super-resolution (SR) techniques. In this work, we propose a robust loss function based on the preservation of edges obtained by the Canny operator. This loss function, when combined with the existing loss function such as mean square error (MSE), gives better SR reconstruction measured in terms of PSNR and SSIM. Our proposed loss function guarantees improved performance on any existing algorithm using MSE loss function, without any increase in the computational complexity during testing.

The deployment of mobile femtocellular networks can enhance the service quality for the users inside the vehicles. The deployment of mobile femtocells generates a lot of handover calls. Also, numbers of group handover scenarios are found in mobile femtocellular network deployment. The ability to seamlessly switch between the femtocells and the macrocell networks is a key concern for femtocell network deployment. However, until now there is no effective and complete handover scheme for the mobile femtocell network deployment. Also handover between the backhaul networks is a major concern for the mobile femtocellular network deployment. In this paper, we propose handover control between the access networks for the individual handover cases. Call flows for the handover between the backhaul networks of the macrocell-to-macrocell case are proposed in this paper. We also propose the link switching for the FSO based backhaul networks. The proposed resource allocation scheme ensures the negligible handover call drop** probability as well as higher bandwidth utilization.

We present the results of a study of vortex arrangements in the peak-effect regime of 2H-NbSe_2 by scanning tunneling microscopy. By slowly increasing the temperature in a constant magnetic field, we observed a sharp transition from collective vortex motion to positional fluctuations of individual vortices at the temperature which coincides with the onset of the peak effect in ac-susceptibility. We conclude that the peak effect is a disorder driven transition, with the pinning energy winning from the elastic energy.
