In this paper, we study uncharged, non-conformal, and anisotropic systems with strong interactions using the gauge-gravity duality by considering Einstein-Quadratic-Axion-Dilaton action in five dimensions. In fact, we would like to gain insight into the influence of higher derivative gravity on the QCD system. At finite temperature, we obtain an anisotropic black brane solution to a 5D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-Axion-Dilaton system. The system has been investigated and the effect of the parameter of theory has been considered. The blackening function supports the thermodynamical phase transition between small/large and AdS/large black brane for suitable parameters. We also study transport and diffusion properties and observe in particular that the butterfly velocity that characterizes both diffusion and growth of chaos transverse to the anisotropic direction saturates a constant value in the IR which can exceed the bound given by the conformal value. We also determine the imaginary part of the heavy quark potential in a strongly coupled plasma dual to Gauss-Bonnet gravity.

$W(a,b)$ and $W(a,b;\bar{a},\bar{b})$ algebras are deformations of ${\mathfrak{bms}_3}$ and ${\mathfrak{bms}_4}$ algebra respectively. We present an $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric extension of $W(a,b)$ and $W(a,b;\bar{a},\bar{b})$ algebra in presence of $R-$symmetry generators that rotate the two supercharges. For $W(a,b)$ our construction includes most generic central extensions of the algebra. In particular we find that $\mathcal{N}=2$ ${\mathfrak{bms}_3}$ algebra admits a new central extension that has so far not been reported in the literature. For $W(a,b;\bar{a},\bar{b})$, we find that an infinite $U(1)_V \times U(1)_A$ extension of the algebra is not possible with linear and quadratic structure constants for generic values of the deformation parameters. This implies a similar constraint for $U(1)_V \times U(1)_A$ extension of $\mathcal{N}=2$ ${\mathfrak{bms}_4}$ algebra.

We investigate the deformations and rigidity of boundary Heisenberg-like algebras. In particular, we focus on the Heisenberg and $\text{Heisenberg}\oplus\mathfrak{witt}$ algebras which arise as symmetry algebras in three-dimensional gravity theories. As a result of the deformation procedure we find a large class of algebras. While some of these algebras are new, some of them have already been obtained as asymptotic and boundary symmetry algebras, supporting the idea that symmetry algebras associated to diverse boundary conditions and spacetime loci are algebraically interconnected through deformation of algebras. The deformation/contraction relationships between the new algebras are investigated. In addition, it is also shown that the deformation procedure reaches new algebras inaccessible to the Sugawara construction. As a byproduct of our analysis, we obtain that $\text{Heisenberg}\oplus\mathfrak{witt}$ and the asymptotic symmetry algebra Weyl-$\mathfrak{bms}_3$ are not connected via single deformation but in a more subtle way.

This thesis is devoted to the study of the deformation and rigidity of infinite dimensional Lie algebras which are not subject to the Hochschild-Serre factorization theorem. In particular, we consider $bms_{3}$, Virasoro-Kac-Moody and $bms_{4}$ algebras and their central extensions which are respectively obtained as asymptotic and/or near horizon symmetry algebras for Einstein gravity on $3d$ flat, AdS$_{3}$ and $4d$ flat spacetimes. We also explore possible deformations of the Maxwell-BMS algebra, which is obtained as asymptotic symmetry algebra of the Chern-Simons gravity theory invariant under the $2+1$ dimensional Maxwell algebra. We find that these algebras are not rigid and can be deformed into new non isomorphic infinite dimensional (family of) algebras. We study these deformations by direct computations and also by cohomological analysis. We then classify all the algebras obtained through deformation of these algebras as well as all possible central extensions thereof. We propose/conjecture an extension of the Hochschild-Serre factorization theorem for infinite dimensional algebras as well as introducing a new notion of rigidity for family algebras obtained through deformation. We also explore physical realizations and significance of the family of algebras we obtain through the deformation procedure.

By considering suitable boundary conditions, we show that the asymptotic symmetry is given by the $\widehat{\mathfrak{bms}}_3\oplus\mathfrak{vir}$ algebra with three independent central charges.

In this work we present different infinite dimensional algebras which appear as deformations of the asymptotic symmetry of the three-dimensional Chern-Simons gravity for the Maxwell algebra. We study rigidity and stability of the infinite dimensional enhancement of the Maxwell algebra. In particular, we show that three copies of the Witt algebra and the BMS3+Witt algebra are obtained by deforming its ideal part. New family of infinite dimensional algebras are obtained by considering deformations of the other commutators which we have denoted as M(a,b;c,d) and \bar{M}(\barα,\barβ;\barν). Interestingly, for the specific values a=c=d=0, b=-\frac{1}{2} the obtained algebra M(0,-\frac{1}{2};0,0) corresponds to the twisted Schrodinger-Virasoro algebra. The central extensions of our results are also explored. The physical implications and relevance of the deformed algebras introduced here are discussed along the work.

We continue analysis of \cite{Parsa:2018kys} and study rigidity and stability of the BMS4 algebra and its centrally extended version. We construct and classify the family of algebras which appear as deformations of BMS4 and in general find the four-parameter family of algebras W(a,b;\bar{a},\bar{b}) as a result of the stabilization analysis, where BMS4=W(-1/2,-1/2;-1/2,-1/2). We then study the W(a,b;\bar{a},\bar{b}) algebra, its maximal finite subgroups and stability for different values of the four parameters. We prove stability of the W(a,b;\bar{a},\bar{b}) family of algebras for generic values of the parameters. For special cases of (a,b)=(\bar{a},\bar{b})=(0,0) and (a,b)=(0,-1), (\bar{a},\bar{b})=(0,0) the algebra can be deformed. In particular we show that centrally extended W(0,-1;0,0) algebra can be deformed to an algebra which has three copies of Virasoro as a subalgebra. We briefly discuss these deformed algebras as asymptotic symmetry algebras and the physical meaning of the stabilization and implications of our result.
