In a warming world, heatwaves over India have become intense and are causing severe health impacts. Studies have identified the presence of amplified Rossby waves and their association with the intensification of heatwaves. Earlier studies have identified two dominant modes of temperature variability in India and their possible role in the development of dry (mode 1) and moist (mode 2) heatwaves. These modes are associated with midlatitude Rossby waves intruding over the Indian region. However the role of regional forcing and the teleconnection behind the intensification of the heatwaves over India is missing. The present study has analyzed the dynamical mechanisms for the regional intensification of the circulation features associated with the dominant moist heatwave mode (mode 2). Considering the predominant barotropic nature of the observed circulation features of the mode, a simple barotropic vorticity equation model forced with extratropical and regional vorticity sources is used to understand the intensification of the heat waves. It was found that a wave response initiated by a cyclonic vorticity over the Bay of Bengal superimposes with the mid-latitude anticyclonic vorticity generated Rossby waves intruding over India. This superimposition results in the amplification and persistence of the anticyclonic vorticity phase over the Northwest Indian region, leading to the intensification of circulation. It was also found that the barotropically forced intensified circulation leads to the intensification of the heat stress. Under a climate change scenario, different circulation regimes, characterized by zonal stationary wave number and jet speed, which can favor the intensification are also identified.

The increasing demand for computational photography and imaging on mobile platforms has led to the widespread development and integration of advanced image sensors with novel algorithms in camera systems. However, the scarcity of high-quality data for research and the rare opportunity for in-depth exchange of views from industry and academia constrain the development of mobile intelligent photography and imaging (MIPI). Building on the achievements of the previous MIPI Workshops held at ECCV 2022 and CVPR 2023, we introduce our third MIPI challenge including three tracks focusing on novel image sensors and imaging algorithms. In this paper, we summarize and review the Nighttime Flare Removal track on MIPI 2024. In total, 170 participants were successfully registered, and 14 teams submitted results in the final testing phase. The developed solutions in this challenge achieved state-of-the-art performance on Nighttime Flare Removal. More details of this challenge and the link to the dataset can be found at https://mipi-challenge.org/MIPI2024/.

Sentiment analysis, a vital component in natural language processing, plays a crucial role in understanding the underlying emotions and opinions expressed in textual data. In this paper, we propose an innovative ensemble approach for sentiment analysis for finding fake reviews that amalgamate the predictive capabilities of Support Vector Machine (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), and Decision Tree classifiers. Our ensemble architecture strategically combines these diverse models to capitalize on their strengths while mitigating inherent weaknesses, thereby achieving superior accuracy and robustness in fake review prediction. By combining all the models of our classifiers, the predictive performance is boosted and it also fosters adaptability to varied linguistic patterns and nuances present in real-world datasets. The metrics accounted for on fake reviews demonstrate the efficacy and competitiveness of the proposed ensemble method against traditional single-model approaches. Our findings underscore the potential of ensemble techniques in advancing the state-of-the-art in finding fake reviews using hybrid algorithms, with implications for various applications in different social media and e-platforms to find the best reviews and neglect the fake ones, eliminating puffery and bluffs.

The coloring $C_0$ is called an extendable coloring, if $C_0$ can be extended to a $k$-coloring of $G$ and it is a Sudoku coloring of $G$ if the extension is unique. The smallest order of such an induced subgraph $G[S]$ of $G$ which admits a Sudoku coloring is called the Sudoku number of $G$ and is denoted by $sn(G)$. In this paper, we first introduce the notion of uniquely color extendable vertex and then we obtain the lower and upper bounds for the Sudoku number of $G \circ K_1$. Some families of graphs which attain these bounds are also obtained. The exact value of the Sudoku number of corona of $C_n$, $W_n$ and $K_n$ with $K_1$ and $C_n \circ P_m$ are also obtained.

We present low-frequency radio observations of the Galactic symbiotic recurrent nova RS Ophiuchi during its 2021 outburst. The observations were carried out with the upgraded Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (uGMRT) spanning a frequency range of 0.15$-$1.4 GHz during 23$-$287 days post the outburst. The average value of the optically thin spectral index is $α\sim$ $-$0.4 ($F_ν \propto ν^α$), indicating a non-thermal origin of the radio emission at the observed frequencies. The radio light curves are best represented by shock-driven synchrotron emission, initially absorbed by a clumpy ionized circumbinary medium. We estimate the mass-loss rate of the red giant companion star to be $\dot{M} \sim$ 7.5 $\times$ 10$^{-8}$ $M_{\odot}$ yr$^{-1}$ for an assumed stellar wind velocity of 20 km/s. The 0.15--1.4 GHz radio light curves of the 2021 outburst are systematically brighter than those of the 2006 outburst. Considering similar shock properties between the two outbursts, this is indicative of a relatively higher particle number density in the synchrotron emitting plasma in the current outburst.

Fine-grained YAG:Nd ceramics with a relative density of ~99% were obtained by the Spark Plasma Sintering method (SPS). The radiation resistance of ceramics was studied under irradiation with swift Xe-ions (E = 146 MeV). A gradient defect structure is formed in irradiated ceramics, varying from layer to layer. The strained YAG phase formed as a result of Xe ions irradiation is localized in a near-surface layer with a thickness of ~5 μm. Full amorphization of the samples was observed under irradiation with a fluence of 1x10^13 cm-2. The calculated critical fluence was 6.5x10^12 cm-2, which corresponded to 0.03 dpa. The microhardness of the surface layers of irradiated ceramics is less than the central layers, and, in general, decreases with increasing ion fluence.

During the initialization of a supercomputer job, no useful calculations are performed. A high proportion of initialization time results in idle computing resources and less computational efficiency. Certain methods and algorithms combining jobs into groups are used to optimize scheduling of jobs with high initialization proportion. The article considers the influence of the scale ratio setting in algorithm for the job groups formation, on the performance metrics of the workload manager. The study was carried out on the developed by authors Aleabased workload manager model. The model makes it possible to conduct a large number of experiments in reasonable time without losing the accuracy of the simulation. We performed a series of experiments involving various characteristics of the workload. The article represents the results of a study of the scale ratio influence on efficiency metrics for different initialization time proportions and input workflows with varying intensity and homogeneity. The presented results allow the workload managers administrators to set a scale ratio that provides an appropriate balance with contradictory efficiency metrics.

We present high-resolution VLT/UVES spectroscopy and a detailed analysis of the unique Broad Absorption-Line system towards the quasar SDSS J165252.67+265001.96. This system exhibits low-ionization metal absorption lines from the ground states and excited energy levels of Fe II and Mn II, and the meta-stable 2^3S excited state of He I. The extended kinematics of the absorber encompasses three main clumps with velocity offsets of -5680, -4550, and -1770 km s$^{-1}$ from the quasar emission redshift, $z=0.3509\pm0.0003$, derived from [O II] emission. Each clump shows moderate partial covering of the background continuum source, $C_f \approx [0.53; 0.24; 0.81]$. We discuss the excitation mechanisms at play in the gas, which we use to constrain the distance of the clouds from the Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN) as well as the density, temperature, and typical sizes of the clouds. The number density is found to be $n_{\rm H} \sim 10^4\rm cm^{-3}$ and the temperature $T_e \sim 10^4\rm\,K$, with longitudinal cloudlet sizes of $\gtrsim0.01$ pc. Cloudy photo-ionization modelling of He I$^{*}$, which is also produced at the interface between the neutral and ionized phases, assuming the number densities derived from Fe II, constrains the ionization parameter to be $\log U \sim -3$. This corresponds to distances of a few 100 pc from the AGN. We discuss these results in the more general context of associated absorption-line systems and propose a connection between FeLoBALs and the recently-identified molecular-rich intrinsic absorbers. Studies of significant samples of FeLoBALs, even though rare per se, will soon be possible thanks to large dedicated surveys paired with high-resolution spectroscopic follow-ups.

We search for Milky Way-like galaxies among a sample of approximately 500 galaxies. The characteristics we considered of the candidate galaxies are the following: stellar mass M_star, optical radius R_25, rotation velocity V_rot, central oxygen abundance (O/H)_0, and abundance at the optical radius (O/H)_R25. If the values of R_25 and M_star of the galaxy were close to that of the Milky Way, then the galaxy was referred to as a structural Milky Way analogue (sMWA). The oxygen abundance at a given radius of a galaxy is defined by the evolution of that region, and we then assumed that the similarity of (O/H)_0 and (O/H)_R25 in two galaxies suggests a similarity in their evolution. If the values of (O/H)_0 and (O/H)_R25 in the galaxy were close to that of the Milky Way, then the galaxy was referred to as an evolutionary Milky Way analogue (eMWA). If the galaxy was simultaneously an eMWA and sMWA, then the galaxy was considered a Milky Way twin. We find that the position of the Milky Way on the (O/H)_0 - (O/H)_R25 diagram shows a large deviation from the general trend in the sense that the (O/H)_R25 in the Milky Way is appreciably lower than in other galaxies of similar (O/H)_0. This feature of the Milky Way evidences that its (chemical) evolution is not typical. We identify four galaxies (NGC~3521, NGC~4651, NGC~2903, and MaNGA galaxy M-8341-09101) that are simultaneously sMWA and eMWA and can therefore be considered as Milky Way twins. In previous studies, Milky Way-like galaxies were selected using structural and morphological characteristics, that is, sMWAs were selected. We find that the abundances at the centre and at the optical radius (evolutionary characteristics) provide a stricter criterion for selecting real Milky Way twins

Dominant modes of SST in the west and east Pacific show strong but regionally different gradients caused by waves, internal dynamics, and anthropogenic warming, which drives air-sea interaction in the Pacific. The study discusses the relative contribution of SST gradients over the western and eastern Pacific to the prediction skill of SST in the central Pacific, where El-Nino, La-Nina, or El-Nino Modoki events project significantly. For this, the analysis develops a convolutional neural network (CNN) based prediction model to predict the Nino3.4 SST. CNN-based prediction models use a spatial filter at the initial stage, which is highly efficient in capturing the edges or gradients and hence are useful to understand the role of SST spatial gradients in the prediction skill. The study reports three CNN-based model experiments. The first one is a CTRL experiment that uses the whole equatorial Pacific domain SST pattern. The second and third models use the equatorial eastern and western Pacific domain SST only. Another novel feature of this study is that we have generated a large number of ensemble members (5000) through random initialization of CNN filters. It is found that random initialization affects the forecast skill, and the probability density function of the correlation skill of the 5000 models at each lead time shows a gaussian distribution. The model experiments suggest that the west Pacific SST model provides better Nino3.4 skills as compared to the east Pacific skill. The CNN-based model forecast based on the SST pattern, thus, shows the impact of the SST spatial pattern on the ENSO forecast.

This paper presents a physics-informed neural network (PINN) approach to solve the Blasius function. This method eliminates the process of changing the non-linear differential equation to an initial value problem. Also, it tackles the convergence issue arising in the conventional series solution. It is seen that this method produces results that are at par with the numerical and conventional methods. The solution is extended to the negative axis to show that PINNs capture the singularity of the function at $η=-5.69$

It was suggested that the prominent feature of the optical Fe II emission has a connection with the accretion process in active galactic nuclei (AGN). For a large sample of 4037 quasars ($z < 0.8$) with measured $\rm Hβ$ line dispersion ($σ_{\rm Hβ}$) selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and 120 compiled reverberation-mapped (RM) AGN, we use $σ_{\rm Hβ}$ and the extended $R_{\rm BLR}-L_{\rm 5100}$ relation to calculate supermassive black holes masses ($M_{\rm BH}$) from the single-epoch spectra for the SDSS subsample, and $σ_{\rm Hβ}$ from the mean spectra for the RM subsample. We find a strong correlation between the relative optical Fe II strength $R_{\rm Fe}$ and $\dot{\mathscr{M}}$ for the SDSS subsample with the Spearman correlation coefficient $r_s$ of $0.727$, which is consistent with that derived from the mean spectra for the RM subsample. The magnitude of velocity shift of the optical Fe II emission has a strong anticorrelation with $\dot{\mathscr{M}}$, whenever there is inflow or outflow. These strong correlations show that the optical Fe II emission has an intimate connection with the accretion process. Assuming that the difference of $M_{\rm BH}$ is due to the variable virial factor $f$ for adopting $ \rm FWHM_{Hβ}$ as the velocity tracer, we find that there is a relation between $f$ and $\rm FWHM_{Hβ}$, $\log f=-(0.41\pm 0.002) \rm \log FWHM_{\rm Hβ}+(1.719\pm 0.009)$ for the single-epoch spectrum. The relation between $\log f$ and $σ_{\rm Hβ}$ is not too strong, suggesting that $σ_{\rm Hβ}$ does not seem to depend much on the broad-line region inclination and a constant $σ$-based $f$ is suitable for $σ_{\rm Hβ}$ as the velocity tracer.

In this work we make use of available Integral Field Unit (IFU) spectroscopy and slit spectra of several nearby galaxies. The pre-existing empirical R and S calibrations for abundance determinations are constructed using a sample of HII regions with high quality slit spectra. In this paper, we test the applicability of those calibrations to the IFU spectra. We estimate the calibration-based abundances obtained using both the IFU and the slit spectroscopy for eight nearby galaxies. The median values of the slit and IFU spectra-based abundances in bins of 0.1 in fractional radius Rg (normalized to the optical radius) of a galaxy are determined and compared. We find that the IFU and the slit spectra-based abundances obtained through the R calibration are close to each other, the mean value of the differences of abundances is 0.005 dex and the scatter in the differences is 0.037 dex for 38 datapoints. The S calibration can produce systematically underestimated values of the IFU spectra-based abundances at high metallicities, the mean value of the differences is -0.059 dex for 21 datapoints, while at lower metallicities the mean value of the differences is -0.018 dex and the scatter is 0.045 dex for 36 data points. This evidences that the R calibration produces more consistent abundance estimations between the slit and the IFU spectra than the S calibration. We find that the same calibration can produce close estimations of the abundances using IFU spectra obtained with different spatial resolution and different spatial samplings. This is in line with the recent finding that the contribution of the diffuse ionized gas to the large aperture spectra of HII regions has a secondary effect.

Nature is an inhabitant for enormous number of species. All the species do perform complex activities with simple and elegant rules for their survival. The property of emergence of collective behavior is remarkably supporting their activities. One form of the collective behaviour is the swarm intelligence -- all agents poses same rules and capabilities. This equality along with local cooperation in the agents tremendously leads to achieving global results. Some of the swarm behaviours in the nature includes birds formations , fish school maneuverings, ants movement. Recently, one school of research has studied these behaviours and proposed artificial paradigms such as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), Glowworm Swarm Optimization (GSO) etc. Another school of research used these models and designed robotic platforms to detect (locate) multiple signal sources such as light, fire, plume, odour etc. Kinbots platform is one such recent experiment. In the same line of thought, this extended abstract presents the recently proposed butterfly inspired metaphor and corresponding simulations, ongoing experiments with outcomes.

The ASTRI MA consists of a group of nine innovative Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes. The telescopes will be installed at the Teide Astronomical Observatory of the Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias (IAC) in Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain) on the basis of a host agreement with INAF. Thanks to its expected overall performance, better than those of current Cherenkov telescopes' arrays for energies above \sim 5 TeV and up to 100 TeV and beyond, the ASTRI MA will represent an important instrument to perform deep observations of the Galactic and extra-Galactic sky at these energies.

Blasius boundary layer solution is a Maclaurin series expansion of the function \(f(η)\), which has convergence problems when evaluating for higher values of \(η\) due to a singularity present at \(η\approx-5.69\). In this paper we are introducing an accurate solution to \(f(η)\) using Taylor's series expansions with progressively shifted centers of expansion(Lea** centers). Each series is solved as an IVP with the three initial values computed from solution of the previous series, so the gap between the centers of two consecutive expansions is selected from within the convergence disc of the first series. The last series is formed such that it is convergent for a reasonable high \(η\) value needed for implementing the boundary condition at infinity. The present methodology uses Newton-Raphson method to compute the value of the unknown initial condition viz. \(f''(0)\) in an iterative manner. Benchmark accurate results of different parameters of flat plate boundary layer with no slip and slip boundary conditions have been reported in this paper.

Visualizing a distributed environment as a graph, whose nodes represent faults (fault graph), allows us to introduce probabilistic weights to both edges and nodes that cause the faults. Here we demonstrate the enhancement of the transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect (TMOKE) signal, in the Otto configuration, due to surface plasmon resonance. We present an architecture where the low index dielectric has a variable thickness. This allows the plasmon resonance to be tuned, depending on the magnetic sample and thus be utilized to enhance the MOKE signal of samples separated from the plasmonic device. We have achieved this by using air as low index dielectric where the evanescent wave extends, preceding to excitation of surface plasmons. The magnetic sample under consideration is a thin layer of cobalt coated by an ultrathin silver layer, on a silicon substrate (Ag/Co/Si). The sample is brought close enough to the prism//Air interface, allowing surface plasmon excitation in the air/Ag interface. This leads to an increase of the TMOKE signal up to ~ 2 per mil with respect to the incident light. This is about 8 times the traditional MOKE signal in the absence of plasmons. This is comparable with previous works using the Kretschmann-Raether configuration. This should find applications in MOKE-related technology by increasing its sensitivity to about one order of magnitude and allowing the magnetic sample to be separated from the plasmonic resonance device.

The seamless forecast approach of subseasonal to seasonal scale variability has been succeeding in the forecast of multiple meteorological scales in a uniform framework. In this paradigm, it is hypothesized that reduction in initial error in dynamical forecast would help to reduce forecast error in extended lead-time up to 2-3 weeks. This is tested in a version of operational extended range forecasts based on Climate Forecast System version 2 (CFSv2) developed at Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune. Forecast skills are assessed to understand the role of initial errors on the prediction skill for MJO. A set of lowest and highest initial day error (LIDE & HIDE) cases are defined and the error-growth for these categories are analysed for the strong MJO events during May to September (MJJAS). The MJO forecast initial errors are categorized and defined using the well-known multivariate MJO index introduced by Wheeler &Hendon (2004). The probability distribution of bivariate RMSE and error growth evolution (first order difference of index error for each successive lead days) with respect to extended range lead-time are used as metrics in this analysis. The result showed that initial error is not showing any influence in the skill of model after a lead time of 7-10 days and the error growth remains the same for both set of errors. A rapid error growth evolution of same order is seen for both the classified cases. Further the physical attribution of these errors is studied and found that the errors originate from the events with initial phase in Western Pacific and Indian Ocean. The spatial distribution of OLR and the zonal winds also confirms the same. The study emphasises the importance of better representation of MJO phases especially over Indian ocean in the model to improve the MJO prediction rather than focusing primarily on the initial condition

In this note an assessment of the condition \(K_w/K=S_w/S\) is made to interpret its meaning to the Passineti's theory of distribution\cite{pasinetti1962rate}. This condition leads the theory to enforce the result \(s_w\rightarrow0\) as \(P_w\rightarrow 0\), which is the Pasinetti's description about behavior of the workers. We find that the Pasinetti's claim, of long run worker's propensity to save as not influencing the distribution of income between profits and the wage can not be generalized. This claim is found to be valid only when \(W>>P_w\) or \(P_w=0\) with \(W\ne0\). In practice, the Pasinetti's condition imposes a restriction on the actual savings by one of the agents to a lower level compared to its full saving capacity. An implied relationship between the propensities to save by workers and capitalists shows that the Passineti's condition can be practiced only through a contract for a constant value of \(R=s_w/s_c\), to be agreed upon between the workers and the capitalists. It is showed that the Passineti's condition can not be described as a dynamic equilibrium of economic growth. Implementation of this condition (a) may lead to accumulation of unsaved income, (b) reduces growth of capital, (c)is not practicable and (d) is not warranted. We have also presented simple mathematical steps for the derivation of the Pasinetti's final equation compared to those presented in \cite{pasinetti1962rate}

The weight of a PID- function is $f(V)=\sum_{u \in V(G)}f(u)$. The perfect Italian domination number of $G$, denoted by $ γ^{p}_{I}(G), $ is the minimum weight of a PID-function of $G$. It is proved that forming core comfortable team in any network is NP-Complete using the concepts of domination in graph theory. Next, we give two polynomial-time approximation algorithms for finding such a core comfortable team in any given network with performance ratio O(ln Δ), where Δis the maximum degree of a given network (graph). The time complexity of the algorithm is proved to be O(n^{3}), where n is the number of persons (vertices) in the network (graph). In this paper, a potential field extrapolation and three nonlinear force-free (NLFF) field extrapolations (optimization, direct boundary integral (DBIE) and approximate vertical integration (AVI) methods) are used to study the spatial configuration of magnetic field in the quiet Sun. It is found that the strength differences between the three NLFF and potential fields exist in the low layers. However, they tend to disappear as the height increases, which are of the order of 0.1 G when the height exceeds $\sim$ 2000 km above the photosphere. The absolute azimuth difference between one NLFF field and the potential field is as follows: for the optimization field, it decreases evidently as the height increases; for the DBIE field, it almost keeps constant and shows no significant change as the height increases; for the AVI field, it increases slowly as the height increases. The analysis shows that the reconstructed NLFF fields deviate significantly from the potential field in the quiet Sun.

In this paper, two semi-analytical solutions of force free fields (\citeauthor{low90}, \citeyear{low90}) have been used to test two nonlinear force-free extrapolation methods. One is the boundary integral equation (BIE) method developed by \citeauthor{yan00} (\citeyear{yan00}), and another is the approximate vertical integration (AVI) method developed by \citeauthor{son06} (\citeyear{son06}). Some improvements for the AVI method have been taken to avoid the singular points in the process of calculation. It is found that the correlation coefficients between the first semi-analytical field and extrapolated field by BIE, and also that by improved AVI, are greater than $90\%$ below a height 10 of the $64 \times 64$ lower boundary. While for the second semi-analytical field, these correlation coefficients are greater than $80\%$ below the same relative height. Although the differences between the semi-analytical solutions and the extrapolated fields exist for both BIE and AVI methods, these two methods can give reliable results for the height of about 15$\%$ of the extent of the lower boundary.

Abstract:
In this paper, two approximation algorithms are given. Let N be an odd composite number. The algorithms give new directions regarding primality test of given N. In this paper, two approximation algorithms are given. Let N be an odd composite number. The algorithms give new directions regarding primality test of given N. The first algorithm is given using a new method called digital coding method. It is conjectured that the algorithm finds a divisor of N in at most O(ln^{4} N), where ln denotes the logarithm with respect to base 2. The algorithm can be applied to find the next largest Mersenne prime number. Some directions are given regarding this. The second algorithm finds a prime divisor of N using the concept of graph pairs and it is proved that the time complexity of the second algorithm is at most O(ln^{2} N) for infinitely many cases (for approximately large N). The advantages and disadvantages of the second algorithm are also analyzed.

The Carnegie Supernova Project (CSP) was a five-year observational survey conducted at Las Campanas Observatory that obtained, among other things, high-quality light curves of ~100 low-redshift Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia). Presented here is the second data release of nearby SN Ia photometry consisting of 50 objects, with a subset of 45 having near-infrared follow-up observations. Thirty-three objects have optical pre-maximum coverage with a subset of 15 beginning at least 5 days before maximum light. In the near-infrared, 27 objects have coverage beginning before the epoch of B-band maximum, with a subset of 13 beginning at least 5 days before maximum. In addition, we present results of a photometric calibration program to measure the CSP optical (uBgVri)bandpasses with an accuracy of ~1%. Finally, we report the discovery of a second SN Ia, SN 2006ot, similar in its characteristics to the peculiar SN 2006bt.

Abstract:
We present effective reduced equations for the study of a binary Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC), where the confining potentials of the two BEC components have distinct asymmetry so that the components belong to different space dimensions as in a recent experiment [G. Lamporesi et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 104, 153202 (2010)]. Starting from a binary three-dimensional (3D) Gross-Pitaevskii equation (GPE…

Starting from a binary three-dimensional (3D) Gross-Pitaevskii equation (GPE) and using a Lagrangian variational approach we derive a binary effective nonlinear Schroedinger equation with components in different reduced dimensions, e. g., the first component in one dimension and the second in two dimensions as appropriate to represent a cigar-shaped BEC coupled to a disk-shaped BEC. We demonstrate that the effective reduced binary equation, which depend on the geometry of the system, is quite reliable when compared with the binary 3D GPE and can be efficiently used to perform numerical simulation and analytical calculation for the investigation of static and dynamic properties of a binary BEC in mixed dimensions.
