Abstract:
Pair production of helicity-polarized weak bosons $(V_λ=W^\pm_λ, Z_λ)$ from gluon fusion $(gg\to V_λV'_{λ'})$ and weak boson fusion $(V_1V_2\to V_λV'_{λ'})$ are powerful probes of the Standard Model, new physics, and properties of quantum systems. Measuring cross sections of polarized processes is a chief objective of the Large Hadron Collider's (LHC) Run 3 and high luminosity programs, but progress is limited by the simulation tools that are presently available. We propose a method for computing polarized cross sections that works by directly modifying Feynman rules instead of (squared) amplitudes. The method is applicable to loop-induced processes, and can capture the interference between arbitrary polarization configurations, interference with non-resonant diagrams, as well as off-shell/finite-width effects. By construction, previous results that work at the (squared) amplitude level are recoverable. As a demonstration, we report the prospect of observing and studying polarized $Z_λZ_{λ'}$ pairs when produced via gluon fusion and electroweak processes in final-states with four charged leptons at the LHC, using the new method to simulate the gluon fusion process. Our Feynman rules are publicly available as a set of \textit{Universal FeynRules Object} libraries called \texttt{SM\_Loop\_VPolar}.

Purpose: The Medical Imaging and Data Resource Center (MIDRC) open data commons was launched to accelerate the development of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to help address the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of this study was to quantify longitudinal representativeness of the demographic characteristics of the primary imaging dataset compared to the United States general population (US Census) and COVID-19 positive case counts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Approach: The Jensen Shannon distance (JSD) was used to longitudinally measure the similarity of the distribution of (1) all unique patients in the MIDRC data to the 2020 US Census and (2) all unique COVID-19 positive patients in the MIDRC data to the case counts reported by the CDC. The distributions were evaluated in the demographic categories of age at index, sex, race, ethnicity, and the intersection of race and ethnicity. Results: Representativeness the MIDRC data by ethnicity and the intersection of race and ethnicity was impacted by the percentage of CDC case counts for which data in these categories is not reported. The distributions by sex and race have retained their level of representativeness over time. Conclusion: The representativeness of the open medical imaging datasets in the curated public data commons at MIDRC has evolved over time as both the number of contributing institutions and overall number of subjects has grown. The use of metrics such as the JSD support measurement of representativeness, one step needed for fair and generalizable AI algorithm development.

Institute Dante Pazzanese of Cardiology (IDPC) develops Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD) that can stabilize the hemodynamics of patients with severe heart failure before, during and/or after the medical practice; can be temporary or permanent. The ADV's centrifugal basically consist of a rotor suspended for system pivoting bearing; the PIVOT is the axis with movement of rotational and the bearing is the bearing surface. As a whole system of an implantable VAD should be made of long-life biomaterial so that there is no degradation or deformation during application time; surface modification techniques have been widely studied and implemented to improve properties such as biocompatibility and durability of applicable materials. The Chemical Vapour Deposition technique allows substrates having melting point higher than 300 °C to be coated, encapsulated, with a diamond like carbon film (DLC); The test simulated the actual conditions in which the system of support remains while applying a ADV. The results have been prepared on a comparative basis; where you select the pivoting assembly which showed less deformation by abrasive wear.
