History of cosmic evolution with modified Gauss-Bonnet-dilatonic coupled term
Abstract: Gauss-Bonnet-dilatonic coupling in four dimension plays an important role to explain late time cosmic evolution. However, this term is an outcome of low energy string effective action and thus ought to be important in the early universe too. Unfortunately, phase-space formulation of such a theory does not exist in the literature due to branching. We therefore consider a modified theory of gravity,… ▽ More

Validating variational principle for higher order theory of gravity
Abstract: Metric variation of higher order theory of gravity requires to fix the Ricci scalar in addition to the metric tensor at the boundary. Fixing Ricci scalar at the boundary implies that the classical solutions are fixed once and forever to the de-Sitter or anti de-Sitter solutions. Here, we justify such requirement from the standpoint of Noether Symmetry.

Resolving the issue of branched Hamiltonian in modified Lanczos-Lovelock gravity
Abstract: The Hamiltonian constraint Hc = NH = 0, defines a diffeomorphic structure on spatial manifolds by the lapse function N in general theory of relativity. However, it is not manifest in Lanczos-Lovelock gravity, since the expression for velocity in terms of the momentum is multivalued. Thus the Hamiltonian is a branch function of momentum. Here we propose an extended theory of Lanczos-Lovelock gravit… ▽ More

Canonical formulation of scalar curvature squared action in higher dimensions
Abstract: Canonical formulation for an action containing scalar curvature squared term $(R^2)$ in arbitrary dimension has been performed in maximally symmetric space-time. The quantum dynamics does not alter significantly from the same in $4$-dimension. Classical solution is also at par with the one presented by Starobinsky. WKB approximation peaks around the classical solution.

Euclidean wormholes with minimally coupled scalar fields
Abstract: A detailed study of quantum and semiclassical Euclidean wormholes for Einstein's theory with a minimally coupled scalar field has been performed for a class of potentials. Massless, constant, massive (quadratic in the scalar field) and inverse (linear) potentials admit Hawking and Page wormhole boundary condition both in the classically forbidden and allowed regions. Inverse quartic potential has… ▽ More

Singularity free stars in (2+1) dimensions
Abstract: We present some new types of non-singular model for anisotropic stars with constant $Λ$ and variable $Λ$ based on the Krori and Barua (KB) metric in $(2+1)$ dimensions. The solutions obtained here satisfy all the regularity conditions and its simple analytical form helps us to study the various physical properties of the configuration.

Why Noether symmetry of F(R) theory yields three-half power law?
Abstract: Noether symmetry of F(R) theory of gravity in vacuum or in matter dominated era yields three-half power law of R. We show that this particular curvature invariant term is very special in the context of isotropic and homogeneous cosmological model as it makes the first fundamental form cyclic. As a result, it allows a unique power law solution, typical for this particular fourth order theory of gra… ▽ More

Canonical formulation of curvature squared action in the presence of lapse function
Abstract: Lapse function appears as Lagrange multiplier in Einstein-Hilbert action and its variation leads to the (0 0) equation of Einstein, which corresponds to the Hamiltonian constraint equation. In higher order theory of gravity the situation is not that simple. Here, we take up the curvature squared (R^2) action being supplemented by an appropriate boundary term in the background of Robertson-Walker m… ▽ More
