The caloric functions are defined in terms of the mean value property for the space-time isotropic $α$-stable Lévy process. To derive the representation, we first establish the existence of the parabolic Martin kernel. This involves proving new boundary regularity results for both the fractional heat equation and the fractional Poisson equation with Dirichlet exterior conditions. Specifically, we demonstrate that the ratio of the solution and the Green function is Hölder continuous up to the boundary.

A problem related to the development of algorithms designed to find the structure of artificial neural network used for behavioural (black-box) modelling of selected dynamic processes has been addressed in this paper. The research has included four original proposals of algorithms dedicated to neural network architecture search. Algorithms have been based on well-known optimisation techniques such as evolutionary algorithms and gradient descent methods. In the presented research an artificial neural network of recurrent type has been used, whose architecture has been selected in an optimised way based on the above-mentioned algorithms. The optimality has been understood as achieving a trade-off between the size of the neural network and its accuracy in capturing the response of the mathematical model under which it has been learnt. During the optimisation, original specialised evolutionary operators have been proposed. The research involved an extended validation study based on data generated from a mathematical model of the fast processes occurring in a pressurised water nuclear reactor.

We prove existence and uniqueness of classical solutions of the master equation for mean field game (MFG) systems with fractional and nonlocal diffusions. We cover a large class of Lévy diffusions of order greater than one, including purely nonlocal, local, and even mixed local-nonlocal operators. In the process we prove refined well-posedness results for the MFG systems, results that include the mixed local-nonlocal case. We also show various auxiliary results on viscous Hamilton-Jacobi equations, linear parabolic equations, and linear forward-backward systems that may be of independent interest. This includes a rigorous treatment of certain equations and systems with data and solutions in the duals of Hölder spaces $C^γ_b$ on the whole of $\mathbb{R}^d$. We do not assume existence of any moments for the initial distributions of players. In a future work we will use the results of this paper to prove the convergence of $N$-player games to mean field games as $N\to\infty$.

A new ARC-class, highly-radiative, pulsed, L-mode, burning plasma scenario is developed and evaluated as a candidate for future tokamak reactors. Pulsed inductive operation alleviates the stringent current drive requirements of steady-state reactors, and operation in L-mode affords ELM-free access to $\sim90\%$ core radiation fractions, significantly reducing the divertor power handling requirements. In this configuration the fusion power density can be maximized despite L-mode confinement by utilizing high-field to increase plasma densities and current. This allows us to obtain high gain in robust scenarios in compact devices with $P_\mathrm{fus} > 1000\,$MW despite low confinement. We demonstrate the feasibility of such scenarios here; first by showing that they avoid violating 0-D tokamak limits, and then by performing self-consistent integrated simulations of flattop operation including neoclassical and turbulent transport, magnetic equilibrium, and RF current drive models. Finally we examine the potential effect of introducing negative triangularity with a 0-D model. Our results show high-field radiative pulsed L-mode scenarios are a promising alternative to the typical steady state advanced tokamak scenarios which have dominated tokamak reactor development.

There are few explicit examples of two player nonlocal games with a large gap between classical and quantum value. One of the reasons is that estimating the classical value is usually a hard computational task. This paper is devoted to analyzing classical values of the so-called linear games (generalization of XOR games to a larger number of outputs). We employ nontrivial results from graph theory and combine them with number theoretic results used earlier in the context of harmonic analysis to obtain a novel tool -- {\it the girth method} -- allowing to provide explicit examples of linear games with prescribed low classical value. In particular, we provide games with minimal possible classical value. We then speculate on the potential unbounded violation, by comparing the obtained classical values with a known upper bound for the quantum value. If this bound can be even asymptotically saturated, our games would have the best ratio of quantum to classical value as a function of the product of the number of inputs and outputs when compared to other explicit (i.e. non-random) constructions.

A significant number of servers that constitute the Internet are to provide private data via private communication channels to mutually anonymous registered users. Such are the servers of banks, hospitals that provide cloud storage and many others. Replacing communication channels by maximally entangled states is a promising idea for the quantum-secured Internet (QI). While it is an important idea for large distances secure communication, for the case of the mentioned class of servers pure entanglement based solution is not only unnecessary but also opens a threat. A crack stimulating a node to generate secure connections via entanglement swap** between two hackers can cause uncontrolled consumption of resources. Turning into positive a recently proven no-go result by S. Bäuml et al. [15], we propose a natural countermeasure against this threat. The solution bases on connections between hub-nodes and end-users realized with states that contain secure key but do not allow for swap** of this key.We then focus on the study of the quantum memory cost of such a scheme and prove a fundamental lower bound on its memory overhead. In particular, we show that to avoid the possibility of entanglement swap**, it is necessary to store at least twice as much memory than it is the case in standard quantum-repeater-based network design. For schemes employing either states with positive partial transposition that approximates certain privates states or private states hardly distinguishable from their attacked versions, we derive much tighter lower bounds on required memory. Our considerations yield upper bounds on a two-way repeater rate for states with positive partial transposition (PPT), which approximates strictly irreducible private states. As a byproduct, we provide a lower bound on the trace distance between PPT and private states, shown previously only for private bits.

We investigate properties of this class of states focusing on the trace distance from the set of separable states. We provide an explicit sub-class of the multipartite entangled PPT states which are arbitrary far from the set of separable states. We argue, that in the multipartite case the mentioned distance increases with dimension of the local Hilbert space. In our construction is we do not have to use many copies of initial state living on the smaller space to boost the trace distance as in the previous attempts to this problem.

For the space of all D-symmetric vectors in $(\mathbb{C}^d)^{\otimes N}$ we define a basis composed of vectors $\{|R_{N,d;k}\rangle: \,0\leq k\leq N(d-1)\}$ which are analog for Dicke states. The aim of this paper is to discuss the problem of separability of D-symmetric states which are diagonal in the basis $\{|R_{N,d;k}\rangle\}$. We show that if $N$ is even and $d\geq 2$ is arbitrary then a PPT property is necessary and sufficient condition of separability for D-invariant diagonal states. In this way we generalize results obtained by Yu for qubits. Our strategy is to use some classical mathematical results on a moment problem.

Rapid modulation of the CMB polarization signal using a CHWP suppresses 1/f contamination due to atmospheric turbulence and allows a single polarimeter to measure both polarization states, mitigating systematic effects that arise when differencing orthogonal detectors. To modulate the full detector array while avoiding excess photon loading due to thermal emission, the CHWP must have a clear-aperture diameter of > 450 mm and be cooled to < 100 K. We have designed a 454-mm-clear-aperture, < 65 K CRS using a superconducting magnetic bearing driven by a synchronous magnetic motor. We present the specifications for the CRS, its interfacing to the PB2b/c receiver cryostat, its performance in a stand-alone test, and plans for future work.

Quantum coherence can be used to infer the presence of a detector without triggering it. Here we point out that, according to quantum mechanics, such interaction-free measurements cannot be perfect, i.e., in a single-shot experiment one has strictly positive probability to activate the detector. We formalize the extent to which such measurements are forbidden by deriving a trade-off relation between the probability of activation and the probability of an inconclusive interaction-free measurement. Our description of interaction-free measurements is theory independent and allows derivations of similar relations in models generalizing quantum mechanics. We provide the trade-off for the density cube formalism, which extends the quantum model by permitting coherence between more than two paths. The trade-off obtained hints at the possibility of perfect interaction-free measurements and indeed we construct their explicit examples. Such measurements open up a paradoxical possibility where we can learn by means of interference about the presence of an object in a given location without ever detecting a probing particle in that location. We therefore propose that absence of perfect interaction-free measurement is a natural postulate expected to hold in all physical theories. As shown, it holds in quantum mechanics and excludes the models with multipath coherence.

Context: We present results of an extensive world-wide observing campaign of MN Draconis.
Aims: MN Draconis is a poorly known active dwarf nova in the period gap and is one of the only two known cases of period gap SU UMa objects showing the negative superhumps. Photometric behaviour of MN Draconis poses a challenge for existing models of the superhump and superoutburst mechanisms. Therefore, thorough investigation of peculiar systems, such as MN Draconis, is crucial for our understanding of evolution of the close binary stars.
Methods: To measure fundamental parameters of the system, we collected photometric data in October 2009, June-September 2013 and June-December 2015. Analysis of the light curves, $O-C$ diagrams and power spectra was carried out.
Results: During our three observational seasons we detected four superoutburts and several normal outbursts. Based on the two consecutive superoutbursts detected in 2015, the supercycle length was derived P_sc = 74 +/- 0.5 days and it has been increasing with a rate of P_dot = 3.3 x 10^(-3) during last twelve years. Based on the positive and negative superhumps we calculated the period excess epsilon = 5.6% +/- 0.1%, the period deficit epsilon_ = 2.5% +/- 0.6%, and in result, the orbital period P_orb = 0.0994(1) days (143.126 +/- 0.144 min). We updated the basic light curve parameters of MN Draconis.
Conclusions: MN Draconis is the first discovered SU UMa system in the period gap with increasing supercycle length.

Hereunder, we study the class of irreducible private states that are private states from which all the secret content is accessible via measuring their key part. We provide the first protocol which distills key not only from the key part, but also from the shield if only the state is reducible. We prove also a tighter upper bound on the performance of that protocol, given in terms of regularized relative entropy of entanglement instead of relative entropy of entanglement previously known. This implies in particular that the irreducible private states are all strictly irreducible if and only if the entangled but key-undistillable states ("entangled key-undistilable states") exist. In turn, all the irreducible private states of the dimension $4\otimes 4$ are strictly irreducible, that is, after an attack on the key part they become separable. Provided the bound key states exist, we consider different subclasses of the irreducible private states and their properties. Finally we provide a lower bound on the trace norm distance between key-undistillable states and private states, in sufficiently high dimensions.

We present the capabilities of our new code for obtaining Doppler maps implementing the maximum likelihood approach. As test data, we used observations of the dwarf nova V2051 Ophiuchi. The system was observed in quiescence at least 16 d before the onset of the next outburst. Using Doppler maps obtained for ten emission lines covering three orbital cycles, we detected spiral structures in the accretion disc of V2051 Oph. However, these structures could be biased as our data sampled the orbital period of the binary at only eight different orbital phases. Our Doppler maps show evolution from a one-arm wave structure in H$α$ to two-armed waves in the other lines. The location of the two-arm structures agrees with simulations showing tidally driven spiral waves in the accretion disc. During consecutive cycles, the qualitative characteristics of the detected structures remained similar but the central absorption increased. For the first time, using the Doppler tomography method, we obtained temperature maps of the accretion disc. However, taking into account all the assumptions involved when using our method to retrieve them, the result should be treated with caution. Our maps present a relatively flat distribution of the temperature over the disc, showing no temperature increase at the location of the spiral arms. Using `ring masking', we have revealed an ionized region located close to the expected location of stream--disc interactions. We found the average temperature of the accretion disc to be 5600 K, which is below the critical limit deduced from the disc instability model.

In particular, we provide conditions for positivity of $φ$, as well as for $2$-positivity, complete positivity and nondecomposability. In particular, we show that for a pair composed of $2$-positive and $2$-copositive maps, there is a nondecomposable merging of them. One of our main results asserts, that for a canonical merging of a pair composed of completely positive and completely copositive extremal maps, their canonical merging is an exposed positive map. This result provides a wide class of new examples of exposed positive maps. As an application, new examples of entangled PPT states are described.

Quantum steering is a relatively simple test for quantumness of correlations, proving that the values of quantum-mechanical measurement outcomes come into being only in the act of measurement. By exploiting quantum correlations Alice can influence -- steer -- Bob's physical system in a way inaccessible in classical world, leading to violation of some inequalities. Demonstrating this and similar quantum effects for systems of increasing size, approaching even the classical limit, is a long-standing challenging problem. Here we provide experimentally feasible signature of unbounded violation of a steering inequality. We derive its universal form where tolerance for measurement-setting-errors is explicitly build-in by means of the Deutsch-Maassen-Uffink uncertainty relation. Then, generalizing the mutual unbiasedness, we apply the inequality to the multi-singlet and multi-particle bipartite Bell-state. However, the method is general and opens the possibility of employing multi-particle bipartite steering for randomness certification and development of quantum technologies, e.g.\ random access codes.

Maximal violation of the CHSH-Bell inequality is usually said to be a feature of anticommuting observables. In this work we show that even random observables exhibit near-maximal violations of the CHSH-Bell inequality. To do this, we use the tools of free probability theory to analyze the commutators of large random matrices. Along the way, we introduce the notion of "free observables" which can be thought of as infinite-dimensional operators that reproduce the statistics of random matrices as their dimension tends towards infinity. We also study the fine-grained uncertainty of a sequence of free or random observables, and use this to construct a steering inequality with a large violation.

The separability decomposition of lenght equal to the dimension of the block matrix (which is smaller then Carathéodory theorem implies) is given. The separability decomposition depends only on eigenvalues of block entries in the first part and on eigenvectors of the block entries in the second part of the tensor product. We argue that our method can be used to check whether a given observable is an entanglement witness. In the second part of this paper we show that inverse reduction map satisfies this requirement and using it we can obtain a bunch of new entanglement witnesses.

We construct steering inequalities which exhibit unbounded violation. The concept was to exploit the relationship between steering violation and uncertainty relation. To this end we apply mutually unbiased bases and anti-commuting observables, known to exibit the strongest uncertainty. In both cases, we are able to procure unbounded violations. Our approach is much more constructive and transparent than the operator space theory approach employed to obtain large violation of Bell inequalities. Importantly, using anti-commuting observables we are able to obtain a {\it dichotomic} steering inequality with unbounded violation. So far there is no analogous result for Bell inequalities. Interestingly, both the dichotomic inequality and one of our inequalities can not be directly obtained from existing uncertainty relations, which strongly suggest the existence of an unknown kind of uncertainty relation.

We present a construction of quantum states in dimension $d$ that has at least 1 dit of ideal key, called private dits (pdits), which covers most of the known examples of private bits (pbits) $d=2$. We examine properties of this class of states, focusing mostly on its distance to the set of separable states $\mathcal{SEP}$, showing that for a fixed dimension of key part $d_k$ the distance increases with $d_s$. We provide explicit examples of PPT states (in $d$ dimensions) which are nearly as far from separable ones as possible. Precisely, the distance from the set of $\mathcal{SEP}$ is $2 - ε$, where $d$ scales with $ε$ as $d \propto 1/ε^3$, as opposed to $d \propto 2^{(log(4/ε))^2}$ obtained in [Badzicag et al., Phys. Rev. A 90, 012301 (2014)]. We do not use boosting (taking many copies of pdits to boost the distance) as in Badzicag et al. paper.

The B-V=0.04 [mag] color corresponds to a dwarf novae during an outburst. The examined light curves suggest that HBHA 4705-03 is a nova-like variable star.

We report results of an extensive world-wide observing campaign devoted to a very active dwarf nova star - IX Draconis. We investigated photometric behaviour of the system to derive its basic outburst properties and understand peculiarities of IX Dra as well as other active cataclysmic variables, in particular dwarf novae of the ER Uma-type. In order to measure fundamental parameters of the system, we carried out analyses of the light curve, O-C diagram, and power spectra. During over two months of observations we detected two superoutbursts and several normal outbursts. The V magnitude of the star varied in the range 14.6 - 18.2 mag. Superoutbursts occur regularly with the supercycle length of 58.5+/-0.5 d. When analysing data over the past 20 years, we found that the supercycle length is increasing at a rate of P_dot = 1.8 * 10^{-3}. Normal outbursts appear to be irregular, with typical occurrence times in the range 3.1 - 4.1 d. We detected a double-peaked structure of superhumps during superoutburst, with the secondary maximum becoming dominant near the end of the superoutburst. The mean superhump period observed during superoutbursts equals 0.066982(36) d, which is constant over the last two decades of observations. Based on the power spectrum analysis, the evaluation of the orbital period was problematic. We found two possible values: the first one, 0.06641(3) d, which is in agreement with previous studies and our O-C analysis (0.06646(2) d), and the second one, 0.06482(3) d, which is less likely. The evolutionary status of the object depends dramatically on the choice between these two values. A spectroscopic determination of the orbital period is needed. We updated available information on ER UMa-type stars and present a new set of their basic statistics. Thereby, we provide evidence that this class of stars is not uniform.

We report results of an extensive world-wide observing campaign devoted to the recently discovered dwarf nova SDSS J162520.29+120308.7 (SDSS J1625). The data were obtained during the July 2010 eruption of the star and in August and September 2010 when the object was in quiescence. During the July 2010 superoutburst SDSS J1625 clearly displayed superhumps with a mean period of $P_{\rm sh}=0.095942(17)$ days ($138.16 \pm 0.02$ min) and a maximum amplitude reaching almost 0.4 mag. The superhump period was not stable, decreasing very rapidly at a rate of $\dot P = -1.63(14)\cdot 10^{-3}$ at the beginning of the superoutburst and increasing at a rate of $\dot P = 2.81(20)\cdot 10^{-4}$ in the middle phase. At the end of the superoutburst it stabilized around the value of $P_{\rm sh}=0.09531(5)$ day. During the first twelve hours of the superoutburst a low-amplitude double wave modulation was observed whose properties are almost identical to early superhumps observed in WZ Sge stars. The period of early superhumps, the period of modulations observed temporarily in quiescence and the period derived from radial velocity variations are the same within measurement errors, allowing us to estimate the most probable orbital period of the binary to be $P_{\rm orb}=0.09111(15)$ days ($131.20 \pm 0.22$ min). This value clearly indicates that SDSS J1625 is another dwarf nova in the period gap. Knowledge of the orbital and superhump periods allows us to estimate the mass ratio of the system to be $q\approx 0.25$. This high value poses serious problems both for the thermal and tidal instability (TTI) model describing the behaviour of dwarf novae and for some models explaining the origin of early superhumps.

We found the superhump period to be P_sh=0.057122(14)days. Based on the O-C diagram we conclude that P_sh increased during the plateau at the rate of dP_sh/dt=(9.24 +- 1.4) * 10^-5. Both the O-C analysis and evolution of the superhumps light curve favour the model in which superhumps originate in a variable source located in the vicinity of the hot spot. In addition, the evolution of the light curve suggests that the superhump light source approaches the disc plane as the superoutburst declines. Detailed analysis of the superoutburst plateau phase enabled us to detect a signal which we interpret as apsidal motion of the accretion disc. We detected additional modulations during the final stage of the superoutburst characterized by periods of 104s and 188s which we tentatively interpret as quasi periodic oscillations. Estimations of A_0 and A_n are in agreement with the dependence discovered by Smak (2010) between the amplitude of superhumps and the orbital inclination.

We report the results of 67h of CCD photometry of the recently discovered dwarf nova SDSS J210014.12+004446.0. The data were obtained on 24 nights spanning a month. During this time we observed four ordinary outbursts lasting about 2-3 days and reaching an amplitude of ~1.7 mag. On all nights our light curve revealed persistent modulation with the stable period of 0.081088(3) days. These humps were already observed on one night by Tramposch et al. (2005), who additionally observed superhumps during a superoutburst. Remarkably, from scant evidence at their disposal they were able to discern them as negative and positive (common) superhumps, respectively. Our period in quiescence clearly different from their superhump period confirmed this. Our discovery of an additional modulation, attributed by us to the orbital wave, completes the overall picture. Lack of superhumps in our data indicates that all eruptions we observed were ordinary outbursts. The earlier observation of the superhumps combined with the presence of the ordinary outbursts in our data enables classification of SDSS J2100 as an active SU UMa dwarf nova. Additionally, we have promoted SDSS J2100 to the group of cataclysmic variables exhibiting three periodic modulations of light from their accretion discs. We updated available information on positive and negative superhumps and thus provided enhanced evidence that their properties are strongly correlated mutually as well as with the orbital period. By recourse to these relations we were able to remove an alias ambiguity and to identify the orbital period of SDSS J2100 of 0.083304(6) days. SDSS J21000 is only third SU UMa dwarf nova showing both positive and negative superhumps. Their respective period excess and deficit equal to 4.99(3)% and -2.660(8)%, yielding the mass ratio q=0.24.

We report an analysis of photometric behaviour of DI UMa, an extremely active dwarf nova. The observational campaign (completed in 2007) covers five superoutbursts and four normal outbursts. We examined principal parameters of the system to understand peculiarities of DI UMa, and other active cataclysmic variables. Based on precise photometric measurements, temporal light curve behaviour, O-C analysis, and power spectrum analysis, we investigated physical parameters of the system. We found that the period of the supercycle now equals 31.45 +/-0.3 days. Observations during superoutbursts infer that the period of superhumps equals P_sh = 0.055318(11) days (79.66 +/- 0.02 min). During quiescence, the light curve reveals a modulation of period P_orb = 0.054579(6) days (78.59 +/- 0.01 min), which we interpret as the orbital period of the binary system. The values obtained allowed us to determine a fractional period excess of 1.35% +/- 0.02%, which is surprisingly small compared to the usual value for dwarf novae (2%-5%). A detailed O-C analysis was performed for two superoutbursts with the most comprehensive coverage. In both cases, we detected an increase in the superhump period with a mean rate of dot_P/P_sh = 4.4(1.0)*10^{-5}. Based on these measurements, we confirm that DI UMa is probably a period bouncer, an old system that reached its period minimum a long time ago, has a secondary that became a degenerate brown dwarf, the entire system evolving now toward longer periods. DI UMa is an extremely interesting object because we know only one more active ER UMa star with similar characteristics (IX Dra).

Two-dimensional relativistic hydrogenic atoms: A complete set of constants of motion
Authors:
A. Poszwa,
A. Rutkowski
Abstract:
The complete set of operators commuting with the Dirac Hamiltonian and exact analytic solution of the Dirac equation for the two-dimensional Coulomb potential is presented. Beyond the eigenvalue $μ$ of the operator $j_{z}$, two quantum numbers $η$ and $κ$ are introduced as eigenvalues of hermitian operators $P=βσ_{z}'$ and $K=β(σ_{z}'l_{z}+1/2)$, respectively. The classification of states accord…

The classification of states according to the full set of constants of motion without referring to the non-relativistic limit is proposed. The linear Paschen-Back effect is analyzed using exact field-free wave-functions as a zero-order approximation.

Abstract:
We report CCD photometry of the dwarf nova BF Ara throughout fifteen consecutive nights in quiescence. Light curve in this interval is dominated by a large amplitude around 0.8 mag modulation consisting two periods. Higher amplitude signal is characterized by period of 0.082159(4) days, which was increasing at the rate of dotP/Psh = 3.8(3)* 10^{-5}. Weaker and stable signal has period of 0.08417…

Light curve in this interval is dominated by a large amplitude around 0.8 mag modulation consisting two periods. Higher amplitude signal is characterized by period of 0.082159(4) days, which was increasing at the rate of dotP/Psh = 3.8(3)* 10^{-5}. Weaker and stable signal has period of 0.084176(21) days. Knowing the superhump period of BF Ara determined by Kato et al. (2003) and equal to 0.08797(1) days, the first modulation is interpreted as quiescent negative superhump arising from retrograde precesion of titled accretion disk and the latter one as an orbital period of the binary. The respective period excess and defect are epsilon_+ = 4.51% +/- 0.03% and epsilon_- = -2.44% +/- 0.02%. Thus BF Ara is yet another in-the-gap nova with mass ratio q of around 0.21.

Abstract:
We report extensive photometry of the dwarf nova V419 Lyr throughout its 2006 July superoutburst till quiescence. The superoutburst with amplitude of ~3.5 magnitude lasted at least 15 days and was characterized by the presence of clear superhumps with a mean period of Psh=0.089985(58) days (129.58+-0.08 min). According to the Stolz-Schoembs relation, this indicates that the orbital period of the…

According to the Stolz-Schoembs relation, this indicates that the orbital period of the binary should be around 0.086 days i.e. within the period gap. During the superoutburst the superhump period was decreasing with the rate of dotP/Psh=-24.8(2.2)*10^-5, which is one of the highest values ever observed in SU UMa systems. At the end of the plateau phase, the superhump period stabilized at a value of 0.08983(8) days. The superhump amplitude decreased from 0.3 mag at the beginning of the superoutburst to 0.1 mag at its end. In the case of V419 Lyr we have not observed clear secondary humps, which seems to be typical for long period systems.

We present 36 observations of 17 visual binaries of moderate separation (range from 0.15'' to 0.79'') made with the 50 cm Cassegrain telescope of the Jagiellonian University in Cracow. The speckle interferometry technique was combined with modest optical hardware and a standard photometric CCD camera. We used broad-band V,R,I filters without a Risley prism to reduce differential colour refraction, so we performed model analysis to investigate the influence of this effect on the results of measurements. For binary components of spectral type O-F, the difference of three spectral classes between them should bias their relative positions by no more than a couple of tens of milliarcseconds (mas) for moderate zenith distances. The statistical analysis of our results confirmed this conclusion. A cross-spectrum approach was applied to resolve the quadrant ambiguity. Our separations have RMS deviations of 0.012'' and our position angles have RMS deviations of 1.8 deg. Relative photometry in V, R and I filters appeared to be the less accurately determined parameter. We discuss our errors in detail and compare them to other speckle data. This comparison clearly shows the high value of our measurements. We also present an example of the enhancement of image resolution for an extended object of angular size greater than the atmospheric coherence patch using speckle interferometry techniques.

The first near infrared detection of XTE J1118+480 in quiescence
Authors:

Abstract:
We report the first quiescent detection of KV UMa, the optical counterpart of XTE J1118+480 at near infrared. The observed magnitudes and colours are consistent with a K7-M0 V star, at the distance 1.4 +/- 0.2 kpc. The light curve shows strong orbital modulation with possible contamination from a superhump detected in the quiescent optical light curves.
