Abstract:
In this paper we study the possible searches at colliders using Vector Boson Fusion topology in the context of Simplified Models signatures. We examine the possible physics reach of these searches with regard to monojet-type searches, and determine how these two signatures are complementary.

We present a systematic survey of possible short-distance new-physics effects in (semi)leptonic charged- and neutral-current charmed meson decays. Using the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) to analyze the most relevant experimental data at low and high energies, we demonstrate a striking complementarity between charm decays and high invariant mass lepton tails at the LHC. Interestingly enough, high-$p_T$ Drell-Yan data offer competitive constraints on most new physics scenarios. Furthermore, the full set of correlated constraints from $K$, $π$ and $τ$ decays imposed by $SU(2)_L$ gauge invariance is considered. The bounds from $D_{(s)}$ decays, high-$p_T$ lepton tails and $SU(2)_L$ relations chart the space of the SMEFT affecting semi(leptonic) charm flavor transitions.

The charged current production of long-lived heavy neutrinos at the LHC can use a prompt charged lepton for triggering the measurement of the process. However, in order to fully characterize the heavy neutrino interactions, it is necessary to also probe Higgs or $Z$ mediated neutral current production. In this case the charged lepton is not available, so other means of triggering are required.
In this work, we explore the possibility of using a vector boson fusion trigger in the context of a GeV-scale Type I Seesaw model. We consider a minimal model, where both Higgs and Z-mediated contributions produce one heavy neutrino, as well as an extended model where the Higgs can decay into two heavy ones. Both scenarios are tested through displaced dilepton and displaced multitrack jet searches.

We investigate the crossing-symmetry relation between $b\to cτ^-\barν$ decay and $b\bar c\to τ^-\barν$ scattering to derive direct correlations of New Physics in semi-tauonic $B$-meson decays and the mono-tau signature at the LHC ($pp\toτ_h X$ + MET). Using an exhaustive set of effective operators and heavy mediators we find that the current ATLAS and CMS data constrain scenarios addressing anomalies in $B$-decays. Pure tensor solutions, completed by leptoquark, and right-handed solutions, completed by $W^\prime_R$ or leptoquark, are challenged by our analysis. Furthermore, the sensitivity that will be achieved in the high-luminosity phase of the LHC will probe $all$ the possible scenarios that explain the anomalies. Finally, we note that the LHC is also competitive in the $b\to u$ transitions and bounds in some cases are currently better than those from $B$ decays.

We investigate the production of such a heavy sterile neutrino through these four-body $μ^+μ^+$ channels and explore the sensitivity that can be reached at the LHCb and CMS experiments. For heavy neutrino lifetimes of $τ_N$ = [1, 100, 1000] ps and integrated luminosities collected of 10 and 50 fb${}^{-1}$ at the LHCb and 30, 300, and 3000 fb${}^{-1}$ at the CMS, we find a significant sensitivity on branching fractions of the orders ${\rm BR}(B_s^0 \to K^- π^-μ^+ μ^+) \lesssim \mathcal{O}(10^{-9} - 10^{-8})$ and ${\rm BR}(B_s^0 \to D_s^- π^-μ^+ μ^+) \lesssim \mathcal{O}(10^{-8} - 10^{-7})$. In the kinematically allowed mass ranges of $m_N \in [0.25,4.77]$ GeV and $m_N \in [0.25,3.29]$ GeV, respectively, we exclude regions on the parameter space ($m_N,|V_{μN}|^{2}$) associated with the heavy neutrino, which could slightly improve the limits from $B^- \to π^+μ^-μ^-$ (LHCb).

Single production of vector-like top partners is becoming a major focus of new searches, as the increasing mass limits on vector-like quarks obtained by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations are such that single production is becoming competitive with respect to pair production. Typically searches focus on decays containing leptons in the final state in order to have less background from the Standard Model processes. However the current centre of mass energies available in the latest LHC runs limit the searches to low masses. Fully hadronic final states may be an alternative option for discovery, as they allow a larger number of signal events if backgrounds can be kept under control. We study the fully hadronic decay of a singly produced vector-like top partner and we show a strategy to extract the signal over the background, considering as a benchmark the 20 fb^-1 of data collected at 8 TeV with the latest run of the LHC.

By extending the Standard Model with three right-handed neutrinos (N_i) and a second Higgs doublet (H_2), odd under a Z_2 symmetry, it is possible to explain non-zero neutrino masses and to account for the dark matter. We consider the case where the dark matter is a scalar and study its coannihilations with the right-handed neutrinos. These coannihilations tend to increase, rather than reduce, the dark matter density and they modify in a significant way the viable parameter space of the model. In particular, they allow to satisfy the relic density constraint for dark matter masses well below 500 GeV. The dependence of the relic density on the relevant parameters of the model, such as the dark matter mass, the mass splitting, and the number of coannihilating fermions, is analyzed in detail. We also investigate, via a scan over the parameter space, the new viable regions that are obtained when coannihilations are taken into account. Notably, they feature large indirect detection rates, with sigmav reaching values of order 10^{-24} cm^3/s. Finally, we emphasize that coannihilation effects analogous to those discussed here can be used to reconcile a thermal freeze-out with a large sigmav also in other models of dark matter.

The inert higgs model is a minimal extension of the Standard Model that features a viable dark matter candidate, the so-called inert higgs ($H^0$). In this paper, we compute and analyze the dominant electroweak corrections to the direct detection cross section of dark matter within this model. These corrections arise from one-loop diagrams mediated by gauge bosons that, contrary to the tree-level result, do not depend on the unknown scalar coupling $λ$. We study in detail these contributions and show that they can modify in a significant way the prediction of the spin-independent direct detection cross section. In both viable regimes of the model, $\mh<M_W$ and $\mh\gtrsim 500 \gev$, we find regions where the cross section at one-loop is much larger than at tree-level. We also demonstrate that, over the entire viable parameter space of this model, these new contributions bring the spin-independent cross section within the reach of future direct detection experiments.
