Euclid. I. Overview of the Euclid mission
Abstract: The current standard model of cosmology successfully describes a variety of measurements, but the nature of its main ingredients, dark matter and dark energy, remains unknown. Euclid is a medium-class mission in the Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 programme of the European Space Agency (ESA) that will provide high-resolution optical imaging, as well as near-infrared imaging and spectroscopy, over about 14… ▽ More

Euclid: Constraining linearly scale-independent modifications of gravity with the spectroscopic and photometric primary probes
Abstract: The future Euclid space satellite mission will offer an invaluable opportunity to constrain modifications to Einstein's general relativity at cosmic scales. We focus on modified gravity models characterised, at linear scales, by a scale-independent growth of perturbations while featuring different testable types of derivative screening mechanisms at smaller non-linear scales. We considered three s… ▽ More

Cosmological constraints on a unified dark matter-energy scalar field model with fast transition
Abstract: We test the viability of a single fluid cosmological model containing a transition from a dark-matter-like regime to a dark-energy-like regime. The fluid is a k-essence scalar field with a well-defined Lagrangian. We constrain its model parameters with a combination of geometric probes and conclude that the evidence for this model is similar to the evidence for $Λ$CDM. In addition, we find a lower… ▽ More

K-essential covariant holography
Abstract: The holographic principle is applied to a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker space-time dominated by dark energy when this is due to the presence of a k-essence scalar field, both for dark energy and phantom scenarios. In this framework, a geometrical covariant approach permits the construction of holographic hypersurfaces. The resulting covariant preferred screens, both for phantom and non-phantom r… ▽ More

Covariant holography of a tachyonic accelerating universe
Abstract: We apply the holographic principle to a flat dark energy dominated Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime filled with a tachyon scalar field with constant equation of state $w=p/ρ$, both for $w>-1$ and $w<-1$. By using a geometrical covariant procedure, which allows the construction of holographic hypersurfaces, we have obtained for each case the position of the preferred screen and have then compar… ▽ More

Phenomenology of Unified Dark Matter models with fast transition
Abstract: A fast transition between a standard matter-like era and a late $Λ$CDM-like epoch generated by a single Unified Dark Matter component can explain the observed acceleration of the Universe. UDM models with a fast transition should be clearly distinguishable from $Λ$CDM (and alternatives) through observations. Here we focus on a particularly simple model and analyse its viability by studying feature… ▽ More

Phenomenological models for Unified Dark Matter with fast transition
Abstract: A fast transition between a standard matter-like era and a late $Λ$ cold dark matter ($Λ$CDM)-like epoch (or more in general, a CDM+DE era), generated by a single Unified Dark Matter component, can provide a new interesting paradigm in the context of general relativity, alternative to $Λ$CDM itself or other forms of DE or modified gravity theories invoked to explain the observed acceleration of th… ▽ More

Kinetic k-essence ghost dark energy model
Abstract: A ghost dark energy model has been recently put forward to explain the current accelerated expansion of the Universe. In this model, the energy density of ghost dark energy, which comes from the Veneziano ghost of QCD, is proportional to the Hubble parameter, $ρ_D=αH$. Here $α$ is a constant of order $Λ^3_{QCD}$ where $Λ_{QCD}\sim 100 MeV$ is the QCD mass scale. We consider a connection between gh… ▽ More

Interacting holographic tachyon model of dark energy
Abstract: We propose a holographic tachyon model of dark energy with interaction between the components of the dark sector. The correspondence between the tachyon field and the holographic dark energy densities allows the reconstruction of the potential and the dynamics of the tachyon scalar field in a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe. We show that this model can describe the observed accelerated ex… ▽ More

Multidimensional quantum cosmic models: New solutions and gravitational waves
Abstract: This paper contains a discussion on the quantum cosmic models, starting with the interpretation that all of the accelerating effects in the current universe are originated from the existence of a nonzero entropy of entanglement. In such a realm, we obtain new cosmic solutions for any arbitrary number of spatial dimensions, studying the stability of these solutions, so as the emergence of gravita… ▽ More

Holographic dilatonic model of dark energy
Abstract: We present a dilatonic description of the holographic dark energy by connecting the holographic dark energy density with the dilaton scalar field energy density in a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe. Interacting non-minimally coupled canonical, phantom and quintom models of holographic dark energy in non-flat universe
Abstract: Motivated by our recent work \cite{set1}, we generalize this work to the interacting non-flat case. Therefore in this paper we deal with canonical, phantom and quintom models, with the various fields being non-minimally coupled to gravity, within the framework of interacting holographic dark energy. We employ the holographic model of interacting dark energy to obtain the equation of state for the… ▽ More

Holographic kinetic k-essence model
Abstract: We consider a connection between the holographic dark energy density and the kinetic k-essence energy density in a flat FRW universe. With the choice $c\geq1$, the holographic dark energy can be described by a kinetic k-essence scalar field in a certain way. In this paper we show this kinetic k-essential description of the holographic dark energy with $c\geq1$ and reconstruct the kinetic k-essen… ▽ More

A gracious exit from the matter-dominated phase in a quantum cosmic phantom model
Abstract: The most recent observational constraints coming from Planck, when combined with other cosmological data, provide evidence for a phantom scenario. In this work we consider a quantum cosmic phantom model where both the matter particles and scalar field are associated with quantum potentials which make the effective mass associated with the matter particles to vanish at the time of matter-radiation… ▽ More

Quantum cosmic models and thermodynamics
Abstract: The current accelerating phase of the evolution of the universe is considered by constructing most economical cosmic models that use just general relativity and some dominating quantum effects associated with the probabilistic description of quantum physics. Two of such models are explicitly analyzed. They are based on the existence of a sub-quantum potential and correspond to a generalization o… ▽ More

Accelerating Hilbert-Einstein universe without dynamic dark energy
Abstract: By using an unmodified Einstein gravity theory it is shown that all of the speeding-up effects taking place in the current universe are entirely due to the quantum effects associated with the background radiation or to the combination of such effects with those derived from the presence of a cosmological constant, without invoking any dynamic dark energy component. We obtain that in both cases t… ▽ More
