Abstract:
After the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012 at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the study of its properties still leaves room for an extended Higgs sector with more than one Higgs boson. 2-Higgs Doublet Models (2HDMs) are well-motivated extensions of the Standard Model (SM) with five physical Higgs bosons: two CP-even states $h$ and $H$, one CP-odd state $A$, and two charged states…

After the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012 at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the study of its properties still leaves room for an extended Higgs sector with more than one Higgs boson. 2-Higgs Doublet Models (2HDMs) are well-motivated extensions of the Standard Model (SM) with five physical Higgs bosons: two CP-even states $h$ and $H$, one CP-odd state $A$, and two charged states $H^\pm_{}$. In this letter, we present the calculation of the full next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections to $hH$ and $AA$ production at the LHC in the 2HDM at small values of the ratio of the vacuum expectation values, $\tanβ$, including the exact top-mass dependence everywhere in the calculation. Using techniques applied in the NLO QCD SM Higgs pair production calculation, we present results for the total cross section as well as for the invariant Higgs-pair-mass distribution at the LHC. We also provide the top-quark scale and scheme uncertainties which are found to be sizeable.

We present the first calculation of the complete set of NNLO QED corrections for muon-electron scattering. This includes leptonic, non-perturbative hadronic, and photonic contributions. All fermionic corrections as well as the photonic subset that only corrects the electron or the muon line are included with full mass dependence. The genuine four-point two-loop topologies are computed as an expansion in the small electron mass, taking into account both, logarithmically enhanced as well as constant mass effects using massification. A fast and stable implementation of the numerically delicate real-virtual contribution is achieved by combining OpenLoops with next-to-soft stabilisation. All matrix elements are implemented in the McMule framework, which allows for the fully-differential calculation of any infrared-safe observable. This calculation is to be viewed in the context of the MUonE experiment requiring a background prediction at the level of 10 ppm. Our results thus represent a major milestone towards this ambitious precision goal.

We present the first full analytic evaluation of the scattering amplitude for the process $q {\bar q} \to Q {\bar Q}$ up-to two loops in Quantum Chromodynamics, for a massless $(q)$ and a massive $(Q)$ quark flavour. The interference terms of the one- and two-loop amplitudes with the Born amplitude, decomposed in terms of gauge invariant form factors depending on the colour and flavour structure, are analytically calculated by kee** complete dependence on the squared center-of-mass energy, the squared momentum transfer, and the heavy-quark mass. The results are expressed as Laurent series around four space-time dimensions, with coefficients given in terms of generalised polylogarithms and transcendental constants up-to weight four. Our results validate the known, purely numerical calculations of the squared amplitude, and extend the analytic knowledge, previously limited to a subset of form factors, to their whole set, coming from both planar and non-planar diagrams, up-to the second order corrections in the strong coupling constant.

We present the analytic evaluation of the two-loop corrections to the amplitude for the scattering of four fermions in Quantum Electrodynamics, $f^- + f^+ + F^- + F^+ \to 0$, with $f$ and $F$ representing a massless and a massive lepton, respectively. Dimensional regularization is employed to evaluate the loop integrals. Ultraviolet divergences are removed by renormalizing the coupling constant in the ${\overline{\text{MS}}}$-scheme, and the lepton mass as well as the external fields in the on-shell scheme. The analytic result for the renormalized amplitude is expressed as Laurent series around $d=4$ space-time dimensions, and contains Generalized Polylogarithms with up to weight four. The structure of the residual infrared divergences of the virtual amplitude is in agreement with the prediction of the Soft Collinear Effective Theory. Our analytic results are an essential ingredient for the computation of the scattering cross section for massive fermion-pair production in massless fermion-pair annihilation, i.e. $f^- f^+ \to F^- F^+$, and crossing related processes such as the elastic scattering $f F \to f F$, with up to Next-to-Next to Leading Order accuracy.

Higgs-pair production via gluon fusion is the dominant production mechanism of Higgs-boson pairs at hadron colliders. In this work, we present details of our numerical determination of the full next-to-leading-order (NLO) QCD corrections to the leading top-quark loops. Since gluon fusion is a loop-induced process at leading order, the NLO calculation requires the calculation of massive two-loop diagrams with up to four different mass/energy scales involved. With the current methods, this can only be done numerically, if no approximations are used. We discuss the setup and details of our numerical integration. This will be followed by a phenomenological analysis of the NLO corrections and their impact on the total cross section and the invariant Higgs-pair mass distribution. The last part of our work will be devoted to the determination of the residual theoretical uncertainties with special emphasis on the uncertainties originating from the scheme and scale dependence of the (virtual) top mass. The impact of the trilinear Higgs-coupling variation on the total cross section will be discussed.

We present an analysis of dust properties of a sample of close major-merger galaxy pairs selected by K_s magnitude and redshift. The pairs represent the two populations of spiral-spiral (S+S) and mixed morphology spiral-elliptical (S+E). The CIGALE (Code Investigating GALaxy Emission) is used to fit dust models to the 2MASS, WISE and Herschel flux density measurements and derive the parameters describing the PAH contribution, interstellar radiation field (ISRF) and photo-dissociation regions (PDRs). Model fits verify our previous Spitzer Space Telescope analysis that S+S and S+E pairs do not have the same level of enhancement of star formation and differ in dust composition. The spirals of mixed morphology galaxy pairs do not exhibit the enhancements in interstellar radiation field and therefore dust temperature for spirals in S+S pairs in contrast to what would be expected according to standard models of gas redistribution due to encounter torques. This suggests the importance of the companion environment/morphology in determining the dust properties of a spiral galaxy in a close major-merger pair.

We present Herschel PACS $\&$ SPIRE far-infrared (FIR) and sub-mm imaging observations for a large K-band selected sample of 88 close major-merger pairs of galaxies (H-KPAIRs) in 6 photometric bands (70, 100, 160, 250, 350, and 500 $μm$). Among 132 spiral galaxies in the 44 spiral-spiral (S$+$S) pairs and 44 spiral-elliptical (S$+$E) pairs, 113 are detected in at least one Herschel band. Star formation rate (SFR) and dust mass ($M_{\rm dust}$) are derived from the IR SED fitting. Mass of total gas ($M_{\rm gas}$) is estimated by assuming a constant dust-to-gas mass ratio of 0.01. Star forming spiral galaxies (SFGs) in S$+$S pairs show significant enhancements in both specific star formation rate (sSFR) and star formation efficiency (SFE), while having nearly the same gas mass, compared to control galaxies. On the other hand, for SFGs in S$+$E pairs, there is no significant sSFR enhancement and the mean SFE enhancement is significantly lower than that of SFGs in S$+$S pairs. This suggests an important role for the disc-disc collision in the interaction induced star formation. The $M_{\rm gas}$ of SFGs in S$+$E pairs is marginally lower than that of their counterparts in both S$+$S pairs and the control sample. Paired galaxies with and without interaction signs do not differ significantly in their mean sSFR and SFE. As found in previous works, this much larger sample confirms the primary and secondary spirals in S+S pairs follow a Holmberg effect correlation on sSFR.
