We address the challenge of incorporating encoded quantum memories into an exact secret key rate analysis for small and intermediate-scale quantum repeaters. To this end, we introduce the check matrix model and quantify the resilience of stabilizer codes of up to eleven qubits against Pauli noise, obtaining analytical expressions for effective logical error probabilities. Generally, we find that the five-qubit and Steane codes either outperform more complex, larger codes in the experimentally relevant parameter regimes or have a lower resource overhead. Subsequently, we apply our results to calculate lower bounds on the asymptotic secret key rate in memory-corrected quantum repeaters when using the five-qubit or Steane codes on the memory qubits. The five-qubit code drastically increases the effective memory coherence time, reducing a phase flip probability of $1\%$ to $0.001\%$ when employing an error syndrome identification adapted to the quantum noise channel. Furthermore, it mitigates the impact of faulty Bell state measurements and imperfect state preparation, lowering the minimally required depolarization parameter for non-zero secret key rates in an eight-segment repeater from $98.4\%$ to $96.4\%$. As a result, the memory-corrected quantum repeater can often generate secret keys in experimental parameter regimes where the unencoded repeater fails to produce a secret key. In an eight-segment repeater, one can even achieve non-vanishing secret key rates up to distances of 2000 km for memory coherence times of $t_c = 10$ s or less using multiplexing. Assuming a zero-distance link-coupling efficiency $p_0 = 0.7$, a depolarization parameter $μ= 0.99$, $t_c = 10$ s, and an 800 km total repeater length, we obtain a secret key rate of 4.85 Hz, beating both the unencoded repeater that provides 1.25 Hz and ideal twin-field quantum key distribution with 0.71 Hz at GHz clock rates.

In this work, we theoretically describe and experimentally demonstrate a novel technique for generation of a bright collinear biphoton field with a broad spectrum, achieved by using a tightly focused pump in a bulk nonlinear crystal. As the most straightforward application of the source, we employ Michelson interferometer-based quantum optical coherence tomography (QOCT). Utilizing the source enables the demonstration of record resolution and dispersion cancellation for this QOCT scheme.

The KM3NeT Collaboration is building and operating two deep sea neutrino telescopes at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. The telescopes consist of latices of photomultiplier tubes housed in pressure-resistant glass spheres, called digital optical modules and arranged in vertical detection units. The two main scientific goals are the determination of the neutrino mass ordering and the discovery and observation of high-energy neutrino sources in the Universe. Neutrinos are detected via the Cherenkov light, which is induced by charged particles originated in neutrino interactions. The photomultiplier tubes convert the Cherenkov light into electrical signals that are acquired and timestamped by the acquisition electronics. Each optical module houses the acquisition electronics for collecting and timestam** the photomultiplier signals with one nanosecond accuracy. Once finished, the two telescopes will have installed more than six thousand optical acquisition nodes, completing one of the more complex networks in the world in terms of operation and synchronization. The embedded software running in the acquisition nodes has been designed to provide a framework that will operate with different hardware versions and functionalities. The hardware will not be accessible once in operation, which complicates the embedded software architecture. The embedded software provides a set of tools to facilitate remote manageability of the deployed hardware, including safe reconfiguration of the firmware. This paper presents the architecture and the techniques, methods and implementation of the embedded software running in the acquisition nodes of the KM3NeT neutrino telescopes.

One of the most important magnetic spin structure is the topologically stabilised skyrmion quasi-particle. Its interesting physical properties make them candidates for memory and efficient neuromorphic computation schemes. For the device operation, detection of the position, shape, and size of skyrmions is required and magnetic imaging is typically employed. A frequently used technique is magneto-optical Kerr microscopy where depending on the samples material composition, temperature, material growing procedures, etc., the measurements suffer from noise, low-contrast, intensity gradients, or other optical artifacts. Conventional image analysis packages require manual treatment, and a more automatic solution is required. We report a convolutional neural network specifically designed for segmentation problems to detect the position and shape of skyrmions in our measurements. The network is tuned using selected techniques to optimize predictions and in particular the number of detected classes is found to govern the performance. The results of this study shows that a well-trained network is a viable method of automating data pre-processing in magnetic microscopy. The approach is easily extendable to other spin structures and other magnetic imaging methods.

We study temporal correlations of interfering quasi-thermal fields, obtained by scattering laser radiation on a rotating ground glass disk. We show that the Doppler effect causes oscillations in temporal cross-correlation function. Furthermore, we propose how to use Hong-Ou-Mandel interference of quasi-thermal fields in the time domain to characterize linear optical circuits.

For Ta$_{1+x}$Ru$_{1-x}$Te$_4$ off-stoichiometry is shown. X-ray powder diffraction confirms that TaRhTe4 is isostructural to TaIrTe4. We show that all these compounds are metallic with diamagnetic behavior. Ta$_{1.26(2)}$Ru$_{0.75(2)}$Te$_{4.000(8)}$ exhibits an upturn in the resistivity at low temperatures which is strongly field dependent. Below $T \approx 4$K we observed signatures of the superconductivity in the TaIr$_{1-x}$Rh$_{x}$Te$_4$ compounds for $x = 0.92$. Magnetotransport measurements on all samples show weak magnetoresistance (MR) field dependence that is typically quadratic-in-field. However, for TaIr$_{1-x}$Rh$_{x}$Te$_4$ with $x\approx 0.78$, the MR has a linear term dominating in low fields that indicates the presence of Dirac cones in the vicinity of the Fermi energy. For TaRhTe$_4$ series the MR is almost isotropic. We have performed electronic structure calculations for isostructural TaIrTe$_4$ and TaRhTe$_4$ together with the projected total density of states. The main difference is appearance of the Rh-band close to the Fermi level.

The present work suggests rigorous criteria to determine phase transitions in Coulomb crystals in a linear ion trap. The proposed method is based on the analysis of a cross size $ρ_i$ and relative polar angle between neighboring particles $Δφ_i$ as functions of the system parameters such as number of ions, mass and charge of ions, and trap geometry. The analytical interpretation of the phase transitions relies on the analysis of the cross size $ρ$ and a metric $Φ$ dependent on the norm of the vector $||\overline{Δφ}||$. We further demonstrate an analysis procedure for the numerical determination of extremes of interpolated functions $ρ$ and $Φ$. 1D-2D and 2D-3D phase transitions points are defined as points of the greatest growth of functions $ρ$ and $Φ$, respectively.

We present a comprehensive study of vortex matter and pinning evolution in the FeSe$_{1-x}$S$_x$ system with various do** degree. The influence of sulphur substitution on vortex pinning and peak effect occurrence is studied. We show that there is a complex interplay among various pinning contributions in the FeSe$_{1-x}$S$_x$ system. Additionally, we study a possible vortex liquid-vortex glass/lattice transition and find an evidence that the vortex liquid-vortex glass phase transition in FeSe has a quasi two-dimensional nature. We investigate the upper critical field behaviour in FeSe$_{1-x}$S$_x$ system, and found that the upper critical field is higher than that predicted by the Werthamer-Helfand-Hohenberg (WHH) model, whereas its temperature dependence could be fitted within a two-band framework. Finally, a detailed H-T phase diagram is presented.

An initial-boundary value problem for the $n$-dimensional ($n\geq 2$) time-dependent Schrödinger equation in a semi-infinite (or infinite) parallelepiped is considered. Starting from the Numerov-Crank-Nicolson finite-difference scheme, we first construct higher order scheme with splitting space averages having much better spectral properties for $n\geq 3$. Next we apply the Strang-type splitting with respect to the potential and, third, construct discrete transparent boundary conditions (TBC). For the resulting method, the uniqueness of solution and the unconditional uniform in time $L^2$-stability (in particular, $L^2$-conservativeness) are proved. Owing to the splitting, an effective direct algorithm using FFT (in the coordinate directions perpendicular to the leading axis of the parallelepiped) is applicable for general potential. Numerical results on the 2D tunnel effect for a Pöschl-Teller-like potential-barrier and a rectangular potential-well are also included.
