I-surfaces from surfaces with one exceptional unimodal point
Abstract: We complement recent work of Gallardo, Pearlstein, Schaffler, and Zhang, showing that the stable surfaces with $K_X^2 =1$ and $χ(\mathcal O_X) = 3$ they construct are indeed the only ones arising from imposing an exceptional unimodal double point. In addition, we explicitly describe the birational type of the surfaces constructed from singularities of type $E_{12}$, $E_{13}$, and $E_{14}$.

Degeneration of Hodge structures on I-surfaces
Abstract: Work of Green, Griffiths, Laza, and Robles suggests that the moduli space of (smoothable) stable surfaces should admit a natural stratification defined via Hodge theoretic data. In the case of stable surfaces with $K_X^2 = 1$ and $χ(X) = 3$ we compute the Hodge type of all examples known to us and show that all predicted degenerations are geometrically realised.

Compactified Jacobians of Extended ADE Curves and Lagrangian Fibrations

Dolbeault cohomology of complex nilmanifolds foliated in toroidal groups
Abstract: It is conjectured that the Dolbeault cohomology of a complex nilmanifold $X$ is computed by left-invariant forms. We prove this under the assumption that $X$ is suitably foliated in toroidal groups and deduce that the conjecture holds in real dimension up to six. Our approach generalises previous methods, where the existence of a holomorphic fibration was a crucial ingredient.
