Within the framework of the modified geodetic brane gravity, conformed by the Regge-Teitelboim model and enhanced with a linear term in the extrinsic curvature of the brane, the possibility that under an FRW geometry this theory emulates the so-called dark energy is discussed. The cosmological behavior of this model displays a self-(non-self)-accelerated expansion of this universe which is caused by a combination of usual matter and gravitational geometric effects controlled by a $β$ parameter that accompanies the correction $K$ term. Indeed, the self-accelerated branch, provided by the trace $K$ model raises the question of whether the extrinsic curvature correction terms might be suitable for dark energy candidates. We discuss the analytical expression obtained for $\rd$ in addition to the main cosmological parameters such as the state parameter $ω_{\text{\tiny eff}}$ and the deceleration parameter $q$. Moreover, when we call for the contribution of dark radiation-like energy to be switched off, $\Odr \to 0$, we find the same acceleration behavior, as well as the same dark energy content provided by the DGP theory.

We prove new bounds on the heat flux out of the bottom boundary, $\mathcal{F}_B$, for a fluid at infinite Prandtl number, heated internally between isothermal parallel plates under two kinematic boundary conditions. In uniform internally heated convection, the supply of heat equally leaves the domain by conduction when there is no flow. When the heating, quantified by the Rayleigh number, $R$, is sufficiently large, turbulent convection ensues and decreases the heat leaving the domain through the bottom boundary. In the case of no-slip boundary conditions, with the background field method, we prove that $\mathcal{F}_B \gtrsim R^{-2/3} - R^{-1/2}\log{(1-R^{-2/3})}$ up to a positive constant independent of the Rayleigh and Prandtl numbers. Whereas between stress-free boundaries we prove, $\mathcal{F}_B \gtrsim R^{-40/29} - R^{-35/29}\log{(1-R^{-40/29})}$. We perform a numerical study of the system in two dimensions up to a Rayleigh number of $5\times10^9$ with the spectral solver Dedalus. The numerical investigations indicate that $\mathcal{F}_B \sim R^{-0.092} $ and $\mathcal{F}_B \sim R^{-0.12}$ for the two kinematic boundary conditions respectively. The gap between the bounds and simulations, and our constructions in the proofs highlight that there still exists room for optimisation of bounds for $\mathcal{F}_B$.

Recent works have discovered a relatively tight correlation between $Ω_{\rm m}$ and properties of individual simulated galaxies. Because of this, it has been shown that constraints on $Ω_{\rm m}$ can be placed using the properties of individual galaxies while accounting for uncertainties on astrophysical processes such as feedback from supernova and active galactic nuclei. In this work, we quantify whether using the properties of multiple galaxies simultaneously can tighten those constraints. For this, we train neural networks to perform likelihood-free inference on the value of two cosmological parameters ($Ω_{\rm m}$ and $σ_8$) and four astrophysical parameters using the properties of several galaxies from thousands of hydrodynamic simulations of the CAMELS project. We find that using properties of more than one galaxy increases the precision of the $Ω_{\rm m}$ inference. Furthermore, using multiple galaxies enables the inference of other parameters that were poorly constrained with one single galaxy. We show that the same subset of galaxy properties are responsible for the constraints on $Ω_{\rm m}$ from one and multiple galaxies. Finally, we quantify the robustness of the model and find that without identifying the model range of validity, the model does not perform well when tested on galaxies from other galaxy formation models.

These solutions are particularly interesting as they generate non-universal heavy neutral vector bosons. Non-universality in the SM fermion charges under an additional gauge group generates Charged Lepton Flavor Violation (CLFV) and Flavor Changing Neutral Currents~(FCNC); we discuss under what conditions the new models can evade constraints coming from these processes. In Addition, we also report LHC constraints.

We discuss the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism for brane gravity described by the Regge-Teitelboim model, in higher co-dimension. Being originally a second-order in derivatives singular theory, we analyzed its constraint structure by identifying the complete set of Hamilton-Jacobi equations, under the Carathéodory's equivalent Lagrangians method, which goes hand by hand with the study of the integrability for this type of gravity. Besides, we calculate the characteristic equations including the one that satisfy the Hamilton principal function $S$. We find the presence of involutive and non-involutive constraints so that by properly defining a generalized bracket, the non-involutive constraints that originally arise in our framework, are removed while the set of parameters related to the time evolution and the gauge transformations, are identified. A detailed comparison with a recent Ostrogradsky-Hamilton approach for constrained systems, developed for this brane gravity, is also made. Some remarks on the gauge symmetries behind this theory are commented upon.

Upcoming measurements will reduce the experimental uncertainty of this precision observable by a factor of four, thus breaking the current balance with the theoretical prediction. A necessary step to restore it is to decrease the HLbL contribution error, which implies a study of the high-energy intermediate states that are neglected in dispersive estimates. We focus on the maximally symmetric high-energy regime and in quark loop approximation of perturbation theory we check the kinematic-singularity/zero-free tensor decomposition of the HLbL amplitude.

Although the complete scope of the sixth generation of mobile technologies (6G) is still unclear, the prominence of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) / Machine Learning (ML) in the networking field is undeniable. In this regard, key technology enablers for the previous generation, 5G, such as software-defined networking and network function virtualization, fall short to accomplish the stringent requirements envisioned for 6G verticals. This PhD thesis goes back to basics, by exploring missing functionality gaps in relation to these technologies, in order to provide the ''glue'' for holistic and fully-fledged networking solutions for 6G, aligned with standards and industry recommendations. Although ambitious, and in a very early stage, this PhD thesis illustrates an initial design for in-band control in Software-Defined Networking (SDN) that could facilitate the interoperability among constrained IoT devices. The current design demonstrates promising results in terms of resource-usage and robustness, which are pivotal features for constrained networks. Next steps include the integration of the approach with a real testbed comprised of constrained IoT devices and the implementation of a federated learning environment at the edge.

A model with fermion and scalar fields charged under a Peccei-Queen~(PQ) symmetry is proposed. The PQ charges are chosen in such a way that they can reproduce mass matrices with five texture zeros, {which can generate} the fermion masses, the CKM matrix, and the PMNS matrix of the Standard Model~(SM). To obtain this result, at least 4~Higgs doublets are needed. As we will see in the manuscript this is a highly non-trivial result since the texture zeros of the mass matrices impose a large number of restrictions. This model shows a route to understand the different scales of the SM by extending it with a multi-Higgs sector and an additional PQ symmetry. Since the PQ charges are not universal, the model presents flavor-changing neutral currents~(FCNC) at the tree level, a feature that constitutes the main source of restrictions on the parameter space. We report the allowed regions by lepton decays and compare them with those coming from the semileptonic decays $K^{\pm}\longrightarrow π\barνν$. We also show the excluded regions and the projected bounds of future experiments for the axion-photon coupling as a function of the axion mass and compare it with the parameter space of our model.

Both measurements are below their corresponding Standard Model predictions (deficit), deviating by $\sim 1.1σ$ and $\sim 1.8σ$, respectively. Moreover, the LHCb recently presented the first search of the lepton flavor violating decay $B^0 \to K^{\ast 0}μ^\pmτ^\mp$. Motivated by these new data, in this work we study their impact on the phenomenology of the singlet vector leptoquark ($U_1$) model addressing the hints of lepton flavor universality violation in the semileptonic decays of $B$ mesons ($B$ meson anomalies), by carrying out a global fit analysis. In general, we found that a minimal version of the $U_1$ model with a mass of 1.8 TeV can successfully explain the $B$ meson anomalies, while being compatible with all other flavor observables and LHC bounds. Interestingly, our study shows that the new observables $R(Λ_c)$ and $R_{Υ(3S)}$ generate strong tension, leading to non-trivial effects on the global fit. Future improvements at the LHCb and Belle II experiments would help to understand their complementarity. Moreover, we also analyze the impact of the expected sensitivity on flavor observables at Belle II to provide a further test of the $U_1$ model. Finally, we study the minimal assumptions under which the $U_1$ model could, in addition, provide a combined explanation of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon.

The triggering of avalanches is investigated using discrete element simulations for a process of random extraction of spheres. A monolayer, formed by identical spheres in a hexagonal configuration, is placed on a tilted plane surrounded by a small fence that sustains the spheres, mimicking the disposal of fruits in the market. Then, a random continuous extraction process of spheres is imposed until the collapse. For this simple numerical experiment, a phase diagram was obtained to visualize the occurrence of avalanches triggered by vacancies as a function of the tilting angle, system size, and friction coefficient. More importantly, a sub-zone was found where we can predict the critical number of extractions until the avalanche takes place. The prediction is made from an evolution model of the average coordination number based on statistical considerations. The theoretical prediction also gives a constant critical void fraction of spheres, which implies the system collapses at a critical packing fraction.

The Universal Morphology (UniMorph) project is a collaborative effort providing broad-coverage instantiated normalized morphological inflection tables for hundreds of diverse world languages. The project comprises two major thrusts: a language-independent feature schema for rich morphological annotation and a type-level resource of annotated data in diverse languages realizing that schema. This paper presents the expansions and improvements made on several fronts over the last couple of years (since McCarthy et al. (2020)). Collaborative efforts by numerous linguists have added 67 new languages, including 30 endangered languages. We have implemented several improvements to the extraction pipeline to tackle some issues, e.g. missing gender and macron information. We have also amended the schema to use a hierarchical structure that is needed for morphological phenomena like multiple-argument agreement and case stacking, while adding some missing morphological features to make the schema more inclusive. In light of the last UniMorph release, we also augmented the database with morpheme segmentation for 16 languages. Lastly, this new release makes a push towards inclusion of derivational morphology in UniMorph by enriching the data and annotation schema with instances representing derivational processes from MorphyNet.

Such a model has been proposed as a combined explanation of the anomalous $b \to sμ^+μ^-$ and $b \to c τ\barν_τ$ data (the so-called $B$ meson anomalies). In this work, we carry out an updated view of the TVB model by incorporating the most recent 2022 and 2023 LHCb measurements on the lepton flavor universality ratios $R(D^{(\ast)}) = {\rm BR}(B \to D^{(\ast)}τ\barν_τ)/{\rm BR}(B \to D^{(\ast)}\ell^\prime \barν_{\ell^\prime})$, $R(Λ_c) = {\rm BR}(Λ_b \to Λ_cτ\barν_τ)/{\rm BR}(Λ_b \to Λ_cμ\barν_μ)$, and $R_{K^{(\ast)}} = {\rm BR}(B \to K^{(\ast)}μ^+μ^-)/{\rm BR}(B \to K^{(\ast)}e^+e^-)$. We perform a global fit to explore the allowed parameter space by the new data and all relevant low-energy flavor observables. Our results are confronted with the recent high-mass dilepton searches at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We find that for a heavy TVB mass of 1 TeV a common explanation of the $B$ meson anomalies is possible for all data with the recent LHCb measurements on $R(D^{(\ast)})$, in consistency with LHC constraints. However, this framework is in strong tension with LHC bounds when one considers all data along with the world average values (BABAR, Belle, and LHCb) on $R(D^{(\ast)})$. Future measurements will be required in order to clarify such a situation. In the end, the implications of our phenomenological analysis of the TVB model to some known flavor parametrizations are also discussed.

Although the equations of motion of the model are well known, apparently their linearization has not been considered before. Using a direct approach, we linearize the equations of motion about a solution, obtaining the Jacobi equations of the Regge- Teitelboim model. They take a formidable aspect. Some of their features are commented upon. By identifying the Jacobi equations, we derive an explicit expression for the Morse index of the model. To be concrete, we apply the Jacobi equations to the study of the stability of a four-dimensional Schwarzschild spacetime embedded in a six-dimensional Minkowski spacetime. We find that it is unstable under small linear deformations.

We develop the Ostrogradsky-Hamilton formalism for geodetic brane gravity, described by the Regge-Teitelboim geometric model in higher codimension. We treat this gravity theory as a second-order derivative theory, based on the extrinsic geometric structure of the model. As opposed to previous treatments of geodetic brane gravity, our Lagrangian is linearly dependent on second-order time derivatives of the field variables, the embedding functions. The difference resides in a boundary term in the action, usually discarded. Certainly, this suggests applying an appropriate Ostrogradsky-Hamiltonian approach to this type of theories. The price to pay for this choice is the appearance of second class constraints. We determine the full set of phase space constraints, as well as the gauge transformations they generate in the reduced phase space. Additionally, we compute the algebra of constraints and explain its physical content. In the same spirit, we deduce the counting of the physical degrees of freedom. We comment briefly on the naive formal canonical quantization emerging from our development.

We extend earlier studies of transverse Ward-Fradkin-Green-Takahashi identities in QED, their usefulness to constrain the transverse fermion-boson vertex and their importance for multiplicative renormalizability, to the equivalent gauge identities in QCD. To this end, we consider transverse Slavnov-Taylor identities that constrain the transverse quark-gluon vertex and derive its eight associated scalar form factors. The complete vertex can be expressed in terms of the quark's mass and wave-renormalization functions, the ghost-dressing function, the quark-ghost scattering amplitude and a set of eight form factors. The latter parametrize the hitherto unknown nonlocal tensor structure in the transverse Slavnov-Taylor identity which arises from the Fourier transform of a four-point function involving a Wilson line in coordinate space. We determine the functional form of these eight form factors with the constraints provided by the Bashir-Bermudez vertex and study the effects of this novel vertex on the quark in the Dyson-Schwinger equation using lattice QCD input for the gluon and ghost propagators. We observe significant dynamical chiral symmetry breaking and a mass gap that leads to a constituent mass of the order of 500 MeV for the light quarks. The flavor dependence of the mass and wave-renormalization functions as well as their analytic behavior on the complex momentum plane is studied and as an application we calculate the quark condensate and the pion's weak decay constant in the chiral limit. Both are in very good agreement with their reference values.

Lepton flavor universality can be tested through the ratio of semileptonic $B$ meson decays and leptonic $Υ$ meson decays, with $Υ\equiv Υ(nS)$ ($n=1,2,3$). For the charged-current transitions $b \to cτ\barν_τ$, discrepancies between the experiment and the Standard Model (SM) have been observed in recent years by different flavor facilities such as BABAR, Belle, and LHCb. While for the neutral-current transitions $b \bar{b} \to τ\barτ$, the BABAR experiment reported recently a new measurement of leptonic decay ratio $R_{Υ(3S)} = {\rm BR}(Υ(3S) \to τ^+τ^-)/{\rm BR}(Υ(3S) \to μ^+μ^-)$, showing an agreement with the SM at the $1.8 σ$ level. In light of this new BABAR result and regarding the connection between new physics (NP) interpretations to the charged-current $b \to c τ\barν_τ$ anomalies and neutral-current $b \bar{b} \to τ\barτ$ processes, in this study, we revisit the NP consequences of this measurement within a simplified model with extra massive gauge bosons that coupled predominantly to left-handed leptons of the third-generation. We show that the BABAR measurement of $R_{Υ(3S)}$ cannot easily be accommodated (within its experimental $1σ$ range) together with the other $b \to cτ\barν_τ$ data, hinting toward a new anomalous observable.

We develop a constructive procedure for arriving at the Hamilton-Jacobi framework for the so-called affine in acceleration theories by analysing the canonical constraint structure. We find two scenarios in dependence of the order of the emerging equations of motion. By properly defining generalized brackets, the non-involutive constraints that originally arose, in both scenarios, may be removed so that the resulting involutive Hamiltonian constraints ensure integrability of the theories and, at the same time, lead to the right dynamics in the reduced phase space. In particular, when we have second-order in derivatives equations of motion we are able to detect the gauge invariant sector of the theory by using a suitable approach based on the projection of the Hamiltonians onto the tangential and normal directions of the congruence of curves in the configuration space. Regarding this, we also explore the generators of canonical and gauge transformations of these theories. Further, we briefly outline how to determine the Hamilton principal function $S$ for some particular setups. We apply our findings to some representative theories: a Chern-Simons-like theory in $(2+1)$-dim, an harmonic oscillator in $2D$ and, the geodetic brane cosmology emerging in the context of extra dimensions.

Medication errors continue to be the leading cause of avoidable patient harm in hospitals. This paper sets out a framework to assure medication safety that combines machine learning and safety engineering methods. It uses safety analysis to proactively identify potential causes of medication error, based on expert opinion. As healthcare is now data rich, it is possible to augment safety analysis with machine learning to discover actual causes of medication error from the data, and to identify where they deviate from what was predicted in the safety analysis. Combining these two views has the potential to enable the risk of medication errors to be managed proactively and dynamically. We apply the framework to a case study involving thoracic surgery, e.g. oesophagectomy, where errors in giving beta-blockers can be critical to control atrial fibrillation. This case study combines a HAZOP-based safety analysis method known as SHARD with Bayesian network structure learning and process mining to produce the analysis results, showing the potential of the framework for ensuring patient safety, and for transforming the way that safety is managed in complex healthcare environments.

Predictions for the Higgs masses are a distinctive feature of supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model, where they play a crucial role in constraining the parameter space. The discovery of a Higgs boson and the remarkably precise measurement of its mass at the LHC have spurred new efforts aimed at improving the accuracy of the theoretical predictions for the Higgs masses in supersymmetric models. The "Precision SUSY Higgs Mass Calculation Initiative" (KUTS) was launched in 2014 to provide a forum for discussions between the different groups involved in these efforts. This report aims to present a comprehensive overview of the current status of Higgs-mass calculations in supersymmetric models, to document the many advances that were achieved in recent years and were discussed during the KUTS meetings, and to outline the prospects for future improvements in these calculations.

We develop in a consistent manner the Ostrogradski-Hamilton framework for gonihedric string theory. The local action describing this model, being invariant under reparametrizations, depends on the modulus of the mean extrinsic curvature of the worldsheet swept out by the string, and thus we are confronted with a genuine second-order in derivatives field theory. In our geometric approach, we consider the embedding functions as the field variables and, even though the highly non-linear dependence of the action on these variables, we are able to complete the classical analysis of the emerging constraints for which, after implementing a Dirac bracket, we are able to identify both the gauge transformations and the proper physical degrees of freedom of the model. The Ostrogradski-Hamilton framework is thus considerable robust as one may recover in a straightforward and consistent manner some existing results reported in the literature. Further, in consequence of our geometrical treatment, we are able to unambiguously recover as a by-product the Hamiltonian approach for a particular relativistic point-particle limit associated with the gonihedric string action, that is, a model linearly depending on the first Frenet-Serret curvature.

Deep learning (DL) applications are increasingly being deployed on HPC systems, to leverage the massive parallelism and computing power of those systems for DL model training. While significant effort has been put to facilitate distributed training by DL frameworks, fault tolerance has been largely ignored. In this work, we evaluate checkpoint-restart, a common fault tolerance technique in HPC workloads. We perform experiments with three state-of-the-art DL frameworks common in HPC Chainer, PyTorch, and TensorFlow). We evaluate the computational cost of checkpointing, file formats and file sizes, the impact of scale, and deterministic checkpointing. Our evaluation shows some critical differences in checkpoint mechanisms and exposes several bottlenecks in existing checkpointing implementations. We provide discussion points that can aid users in selecting a fault-tolerant framework to use in HPC. We also provide takeaway points that framework developers can use to facilitate better checkpointing of DL workloads in HPC.

Based on the Generalized Quantum Electrodynamics expression for the Podolsky propagator, which preserves gauge invariance for massive photons, we propose a model for the massive gluon propagator that reproduces well-known features of established strong-interaction models in the framework of the Dyson-Schwinger equation. By adjusting the Podolsky mass and the coupling strength we thus construct a model with simple analytical properties known from perturbative theory, yet well suited to describe a confining interaction. We obtain solutions of the Dyson-Schwinger equation for the quark at space-like momenta on the real axis as well as on the complex plane and solving the bound-state problem with the Bethe-Salpeter equation yields masses and weak decay constants of the $π, K$ and $η_c$ in excellent agreement with experimental values, while the $D$ and $D_s$ are reasonably well described. The analytical simplicity of this effective interaction has the potential to be useful for phenomenological applications and may facilitate calculations in Minkowski space.

Limiting our analysis to Hermitian mass matrices, we show that this requires a minimum of 4 Higgs doublets. This model allows assigning values close to 1 for several Yukawa couplings, giving insight into the origin of the mass scales in the SM. Since the PQ charges are non-universal, the model features Flavor-Changing Neutral Currents~(FCNC) at the tree level. From the analytical expressions for the FCNC we report the allowed region in the parameter space obtained from the measurements of branching ratios of semileptonic meson decays.

Experimental measurements collected by the BABAR, Belle, and LHCb experiments on different observables associated with the semileptonic transition $b \to c τ\barν_τ$, indicate the existence of disagreement respect with the Standard Model predictions. We analyse the charged scalar boson contributions to these charged-current $B$ meson anomalies within the framework of two Higgs doublet model with the most general Yukawa couplings to quarks and leptons from the third generation, involving left-handed and right-handed (sterile) neutrinos. We perform a phenomenological study of the Yukawa couplings parameter space that accommodates these anomalies. We consider the most recent data from HFLAV world-average and Belle combination, and the upper limits ${\rm BR}(B_c^- \to τ^- \barν_τ) < 30\%$ and $10\%$. In addition, we include in our study the prospect measurements on $R(D^{(\ast)})$ that the Belle II experiment could achieve and explore, for the first time, the future implications for the corresponding charged scalar Yukawa couplings. This analysis updates the existing literature and includes new important observables. Our results show that current experimental $b\rightarrow c τ\barν_τ$ data and Belle II projection favor the interpretation of a charged scalar boson interacting with right-handed neutrinos. Furthermore, as a side analysis regarding the charged scalar boson interpretation, we revisit the relation between $R(D^\ast)$ and ${\rm BR}(B_c^- \to τ^- \barν_τ)$ by investigating whether the claim that pseudoscalar new physics interpretations of $R(D^{\ast})$ are implausible due to the $B_c$ lifetime is still valid, to the light of the recent data and Belle II prospects on $R(D^{\ast})$. Lastly, we reexamine addressing the $R(D^{(\ast)})$ anomalies in the context of the 2HDM of Type II.

The Hamilton-Jacobi formalism for a geodetic brane-like universe described by the Regge-Teitelboim model is developed. We focus on the description of the complete set of Hamiltonians that ensure the integrability of the model in addition to obtaining the Hamilton principal function $S$. In order to do this, we avoid the second-order in derivative nature of the model by appropriately defining a set of auxiliary variables that yields a first-order Lagrangian. Being a linear in acceleration theory, this scheme unavoidably needs an adequate redefinition of the so-called Generalized Poisson Bracket in order to achieve the right evolution in the reduced phase space. Further this Hamilton-Jacobi framework also enables us to explore the quantum behaviour under a semi-classical approximation of the model. A comparison with the Ostrogradski-Hamilton method for constrained systems is also provided in detail.

In this work we propose new five textures zeros for the mass matrices in the lepton sector in order to predict values for the neutrino masses. In our approach we go beyond the Standard Model by assuming Dirac masses for the neutrinos, feature which allows us to make a theoretical prediction for the lightest neutrino mass in the normal ordering. The textures analyzed have enough free parameters to adjust the $V_{\text{\tiny PMNS}}$ mixing matrix including the CP-violating phase, the neutrino mass squared differences $δm_{21}^2,\,δm_{31}^2$, and the three charged lepton masses. In order to have reliable results two different approaches are used: the first one is based on a least-squares analysis to fit the lepton masses and the mixing parameters to their corresponding experimental values, for this case the best fit for the lightest neutrino mass is $(3.9\pm^{0.6}_{0.8})\times 10^{-3}$ eV.; the second approach is just algebraic, based on the weak basis transformation method, in this case the lightest neutrino mass consistent with the experimental values and the restrictions coming from the five texture zeros of the mass matrices is equal to $(3.5\pm0.9)\times 10^{-3}$ eV.

Very recent experimental information obtained from the Belle experiment, along with that accumulated by the BABAR and LHCb experiments, has shown the existence of anomalies in the ratios $R(D)$ and $R(D^{*})$ associated with the charged-current transition $b \to c τ\barν_τ$. Although the Belle measurements are in agreement with the standard model (SM) predictions, the new experimental world averages still exhibit a tension. In addition, the $D^\ast$ longitudinal polarization $F_L(D^\ast)$ related with the channel $B \to D^\ast τ\barν_τ$ observed by the Belle Collaboration and the ratio $R(J/ψ)$ measured by the LHCb Collaboration also show discrepancies with their corresponding SM estimations. We present a model-independent study based on the most general effective Lagrangian that yields a tree-level effective contribution to the transition $b \to c τ\barν_τ$ induced by a general $W^\prime$ boson. Instead of considering any specific new physics (NP) realization, we perform an analysis by considering all of the different chiral charges to the charm-bottom and $τ$-$ν_τ$ interaction terms with a charged $W^\prime$ boson that explain the anomalies. We present a phenomenological study of parameter space allowed by the new experimental $b \to c τ\barν_τ$ data and with the mono-tau signature $pp \to τ_h X + \rm{MET}$ at the LHC. Software switches are pivotal in the Software-Defined Networking (SDN) paradigm, particularly in the early phases of development, deployment and testing. Currently, the most popular one is Open vSwitch (OVS), leveraged in many production-based environments. However, due to its kernel-based nature, OVS is typically complex to modify when additional features or adaptation is required. To this regard, a simpler user-space is key to perform these modifications.
In this article, we present a rich overview of BOFUSS, the basic OpenFlow user-space software switch. BOFUSS has been widely used in the research community for diverse reasons, but it lacked a proper reference document. For this purpose, we describe the switch, its history, architecture, uses cases and evaluation, together with a survey of works that leverage this switch. The main goal is to provide a comprehensive overview of the switch and its characteristics. Although the original BOFUSS is not expected to surpass the high performance of OVS, it is a useful complementary artifact that provides some OpenFlow features missing in OVS and it can be easily modified for extended functionality. Moreover, enhancements provided by the BEBA project brought the performance from BOFUSS close to OVS. In any case, this paper sheds light to researchers looking for the trade-offs between performance and customization of BOFUSS.

We also impose constraints from the Yukawa interaction terms in such a way that at the end we obtain a solution with six free parameters. Our solution contains as particular cases well-known models in the literature. As an application, we report a model that evades LHC constraints, flavor changing neutral currents and low energy constraints. Simultaneously, the model is able to explain the flavor anomalies in the Wilson coefficients $C_9(μ)$ and $C_{10}(μ)$ without modifying the corresponding Wilson coefficients for the first family. In our approach, this procedure is always possible for $Z'$ masses smaller than $\sim 2.5$~TeV.

In this article, we employ transverse Takahashi identities to impose valuable non-perturbative constraints on the transverse part of the fermion-photon vertex in terms of new form factors, the so called $Y_i$ functions. We show that the implementation of these identities is crucial in ensuring the correct local gauge transformation of the fermion propagator and its multiplicative renormalizability. Our construction incorporates the correct symmetry properties of the $Y_i$ under charge conjugation operation as well as their well-known one-loop expansion in the asymptotic configuration of incoming and outgoing momenta. Furthermore, we make an explicit analysis of various existing constructions of this vertex against the demands of transverse Takahashi identities and the previously established key features of quantum electrodynamics, such as gauge invariance of the critical coupling above which chiral symmetry is dynamically broken. We construct a simple example in its quenched version and compute the mass function as we vary the coupling strength and also calculate the corresponding anomalous dimensions $γ_m$. There is an excellent fit to the Miransky scalling law and we find $γ_m=1$ rather naturally in accordance with some earlier results in literature, using arguments based on Cornwall-Jackiw-Tomboulis effective potential technique. Moreover, we numerically confirm the gauge invariance of this critical coupling.

Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a finite dimensional complex Lie algebra and let $A$ be a finite dimensional complex, associative and commutative algebra with unit. We describe the structure of the derivation Lie algebra of the current Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}_A= \mathfrak{g} \otimes A$, denoted by $\operatorname{Der}(\mathfrak{g}_A)$. Furthermore, we obtain the Levi decomposition of $\operatorname{Der}(\mathfrak{g}_A)$.
As a consequence of the last result, if $\mathfrak{h}_m$ is the Heisenberg Lie algebra of dimension $2 m + 1$, we obtain a faithful representation of $\operatorname{Der}(\mathfrak{h}_{m,k})$ of the current truncated Heisenberg Lie algebra $\mathfrak{h}_{m,k}= \mathfrak{h}_m \otimes \mathbb{C}[t]/ (t^{k + 1})$ for all positive integer $k$.

We present a novel approach to construct cosmological models endowed with a particular scalar field, the stealth. The model is constructed by studying a scalar field no-minimally coupled to the gravitational field with sources; as sources, we used a perfect fluid and analyzed the simplest case of dust and the power-law cosmology. Surprisingly, we find that these stealth fields, which have no back-reaction to background space-time, have a contribution to cosmological dynamics. Furthermore, we provide analytic expressions of the stealth's contributions to the energy density in both cases, and for the pressure in the power-low cosmology, which means that such contributions to cosmological evolution are quantifiable. Additionally, we discuss the behaviors of the self-interaction potential for some cases.

After analyzing different alternatives of ARP-Path and creating the All-Path family, the idea of migrating the protocol to wireless networks appeared to be a good alternative to protocols such as a AODV. In this article, we check the implications of adapting ARP-Path to a wireless environment, and we prove that good ideas for wired networks might not be directly applicable to wireless networks, as not only the media differs, but also the characterization of these networks varies.

We report the most general expression for the chiral charges of a $Z'$ gauge boson coming from an $E_6$ unification model, as a function of the electroweak parameters and the charges of the $U(1)$ factors in the chain of subgroups. These charges are valid for an arbitrary Higgs sector and only depend on the branching rules of the $E_6$ fundamental representation and the corresponding rules for the fermionic representations of their subgroups. By assuming $E_6$ unification, the renormalization group equations~(RGE) allow us to calculate the electroweak parameters at low energies for most of the chains of subgroups in $E_6$. From RGE and unitary conditions, we show that at low energies there must be a mixing between the gauge boson of the standard model hypercharge and the $Z'$. From this, it is possible to delimit the preferred region in the parameter space for a breaking pattern in $E_6$. In general, without unification, it is not viable to determine this region; however, for some models and under certain assumptions, it is possible to limit the corresponding parameter space. By using the most recent upper limits on the cross-section of extra gauge vector bosons $Z'$ decaying into dileptons from the ATLAS data at 13~TeV with accumulated luminosities of 36.1~fb$^{-1}$ and 13.3~fb$^{-1}$, we report the 95$\%$ C.L. lower limits on the $Z'$ mass for the typical $E_6$ benchmark models. We also show the contours in the 95\% C.L. of the $Z'$ mass bounds for the entire parameter space of $E_6$.

Flexible management is one of the key components of next-generation 5G networks. Currently, many approaches focus on network functionality (services) and translate it afterward into end-user requirements, which slightly constrains the flexibility for both management and end users. Furthermore, moving the intelligence of the network towards the edge (i.e. the users) has already proven its benefits, such as computational offloading, lower latency and higher bandwidth utilization. In this article, we try to move management as close as possible to final users, providing per-user flexibility and unique user to service paths, enabling custom paths adapted for each user requirements instead of users adapting to service requirements. To validate our ideas, we work on two different use cases, implemented as proof-of-concepts in the ONOS platform. From the results obtained we conclude that there is still work to be done regarding the integration of SDN in the radio access and evolved packet core functions to provide the desired flexibility.

We provide a covariant framework to study classically the stability of small perturbations on the so-called gonihedric string model by making precise use of variational techniques. The local action depends of the square root of the quadratic mean extrinsic curvature of the worldsheet swept out by the string, and is reparametrization invariant. A general expression for the worldsheet perturbations, guided by Jacobi equations without any early gauge fixing, is obtained. This is manifested through a set of highly coupled nonlinear differential partial equations where the perturbations are described by scalar fields, $Φ^i$, living in the worldsheet. This model contains, as a special limit, to the linear model in the mean extrinsic curvature. In such a case the Jacobi equations specialize to a single wave-like equation for $Φ$.

A framework allowing to compose SDN applications combining different frameworks can help revert the trend. In this paper, we analyze the challenges in the current SDN landscape and then present the multi-controller SDN framework developed by the NetIDE project. Our architecture supports different SDN southbound protocols and we have implemented a proof of concept using the OpenFlow protocol, which has given us a greater insight on its shortcomings.

We calculate the masses and weak decay constants of flavorless ground and radially excited $J^P=1^-$ mesons and the corresponding quantities for the K^*, within a Poincaré covariant continuum framework based on the Bethe-Salpeter equation. We use in both, the quark's gap equation and the meson bound-state equation, an infrared massive and finite interaction in the leading symmetry-preserving truncation. While our numerical results are in rather good agreement with experimental values where they are available, no single parametrization of the QCD inspired interaction reproduces simultaneously the ground and excited mass spectrum, which confirms earlier work on pseudoscalar mesons. This feature being a consequence of the lowest truncation, we pin down the range and strength of the interaction in both cases to identify common qualitative features that may help to tune future interaction models beyond the rainbow-ladder approximation.

This paper presents a scalability and load balancing study of the All-Path protocols, a family of distributed switching protocols based on path exploration. ARP-Path is the main protocol and it explores every possible path reaching from source to destination by using ARP messages, selecting the lowest latency path. Flow-Path and Bridge-Path are respectively the flow-based and bridge-based versions, instead of the source address-based approach of ARP-Path. While preserving the main advantages of ARP-Path, Flow-Path has the advantages of full independence of flows for path creation, guaranteeing path symmetry and increased path diversity. While Bridge-Path increases scalability by reducing forwarding table entries at core bridges. We compare the characteristics of each protocol and the convenience of using each one depending on the topology and the type of traffic. Finally, we prove their load balancing capabilities analytically and via simulation.

We report the most general expression for the chiral charges of a non-universal $U(1)'$ with identical charges for the first two families but different charges for the third one. The model is minimal in the sense that only standard model fermions plus right-handed neutrinos are required. By imposing anomaly cancellation and constraints coming from Yukawa couplings we obtain two different solutions. In one of these solutions, the anomalies cancel between fermions in different families. These solutions depend on four independent parameters which result very useful for model building. We build different benchmark models in order to show the flexibility of the parameterization. We also report LHC and low energy constraints for these benchmark models.
